Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2022 48:26

Money is a sensitive subject. For most of us, the way we think about, save, and spend money comes straight from our childhood and our parents' habits. Then, when we start to factor in a partner's money habits, things start to get even more complicated. Maybe one of you saves every penny, while the other loves to spend on the finer things. What we do know is that nothing changes if you don't talk about it. So if you and your partner are in need of a Money-Mindset-Makeover, it might be time to have a few hard conversations.   Our money behaviors often come from childhood [4:08] Savers vs. spenders [6:08] The more you give away, the more you welcome in [7:11] The value of saving and investing [10:52] Abundance (with a plan) [11:44] Know thyself [15:29] Have a conversation about what works for both of you [17:41] A balanced money mindset [22:00] Money helps you enjoy your life [24:32] Give yourself a buffer before you buy [27:26] Out of sight, out of mind [30:59] Needs, wants, and priorities [33:38] Hiding spending from your partner [36:56] Adding streams of income, just for yourself [39:57] Single-income households [43:36]   Use ‘thebestlife' at check-out for $50 OFF your Maddle board!   thehappinessdiet.com   Don't forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Some of our best conversations come from our deep friendship, and that's something we've been able to maintain over the past 5 years through relationships old and new, moves to different cities, business decisions, family matters, and everything in between. Finding and keeping friends is harder than it seems, but here's how we keep ours going strong. Making a mistake isn't the end of the world (even if it really feels like it.) A lot of children are conditioned to fear “messing up” and those children turn into perfectionist adults. Sure, perfectionism might take you “far” places, but at some point, that same perfectionism is going to stifle your creativity and keep you stuck in the same places. If you want to go even farther, you have to learn to embrace your mistakes and give yourself grace when you're wrong or you've messed up. You're tougher than you know, and even if you are wrong sometimes, everything is going to be just fine.   We're conditioned to fear making mistakes [0:58] Perfectionism makes you fragile [2:48] Imperfection is a productivity system [6:00] Having to be “perfect” stifles your creativity [6:54] The freedom of allowing yourself to make mistakes [9:25] Life just isn't that fragile [11:14] Growth requires other people [13:02] Resiliency takes you farther than perfectionism [14:32] A moment of self-compassion [18:08] Who makes the rules of “good” and “bad”? The body positivity movement has been life-changing for so many people. Bodies come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and we ALL deserve to love ourselves, however we look. But we've noticed a weird trend, where body positivity turns… well, negative. Now if you show up online as a thin person, you're shaming people who aren't. Or if you express interest in losing some pounds or gaining some muscle, you “don't love yourself.” The body positivity movement is incredible in a lot of ways, but something is wrong when we're still focused on what “weight” means, rather than the act of being healthy, however that looks. As in most things, the best way to live a life you love is to worry about your own journey, and let others live theirs.   The line between body positivity and accepting unhealthy lifestyles [1:20] Why do you give a fuck what someone else looks like? You'd be hard pressed to find a woman today who never hated something about her body. Our society is so focused on how we look, and it's hard not to covet what we can't have. But that's the important part: we can't have it. Sure you have have surgery, you can diet and work out, but so much of how we look comes down to genetics. But you just can't change your DNA, no matter how badly you wish you could. Instead of channeling your feelings into body hatred, surround yourself with people who make you feel good, learn to love what you have, and realize that we are worth so much more than how we look.   Coveting other people's bodies [5:59] How we look is mostly based on genetics [8:42] Every body is different and every body is beautiful [10:47] Find people who make you feel good enough [13:13] Unfollow what triggers you, but understand why [14:46] Tastes will change—yours and society's [16:56] Get right with what you have [17:55] So much of beauty is subjective [21:08] Your body is not your worth [23:23] Find what makes you feel good [25:33] Start with neutrality before you get to love [28:48] Confidence is true beauty [30:11]   Check out Ep. 118: It's Never Too Late to Get Fit with Jamie Eason   thehappinessdiet.com   Get 20% OFF Organifi products at organifi.com using code ‘thebestlife'   Don't forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! Everything feels more than just a little contentious these days. People fight on the internet and cut off family or friends over the smallest disagreements. If you ask us, its just a little immature. Nobody has to like every single thing you do, or have the exact same opinions! Believe it or not, there's a way to disagree and still be friends—even on “bigger” issues. Even Danny and Jill don't agree on everything.   Everyone is in their own online echo-chamber [1:40] Losing friends over different opinions [2:53] Engaging in the conversation makes us better [6:32] Is it immature to cut people out of your life? That begs the question: have they ever made a BAD investment? The shocking truth is, no. And not because they have some supernatural sixth sense to sniff out bullshit every time, but because we really don't think bad investments actually exist. Yup.
