In this powerful episode of the Her Best Self podcast, Lindsey explores what it truly means to go ALL IN on your recovery journey. Inspired by a church sermon on faith, she unpacks the different levels of commitment in recovery—from ankle-deep hesitation to full blown surrender—and challenges you to identify where you're holding back. If you're tired of partial results and ready to experience true freedom from disordered eating, this episode offers both inspiration and practical next steps for going ALL IN on yourself and your healing. What You'll Learn The four levels of commitment in recovery: ankle-deep, knee-deep, waist-deep, and ALL IN How staying in your comfort zone blocks your healing progress The exhausting reality of wearing the "eating disorder mask" and the freedom that comes from removing it Practical examples of what going ALL IN looks like in everyday recovery Biblical wisdom that supports full surrender in the recovery process One tangible action step to move toward going ALL IN this week Highlights From This Episode On Partial Commitment (3:12) "Partial commitment yields partial results. To experience the full freedom that recovery offers, you have to go ALL IN. That means complete surrender. Complete trust. Complete willingness to feel ALL of your feelings without using food or exercise to numb them." On Getting Out of Your Own Way (5:45) "How often are YOU getting in the way of your own recovery? How often are you blocking your own healing because you're trying to control everything? Because you're not willing to trust the process? Because you're holding onto the false comfort of your eating disorder?" On Removing the Mask (8:30) "The eating disorder has pulled a mask over you - a false identity that you might have worn for years or even decades... Going ALL IN means pulling away that mask and saying, 'This is who I really am. This is what I'm really struggling with. This is what I really need.'" On Redirecting Energy (10:15) "When you go ALL IN on recovery, you get to redirect all that energy toward actually living your life. Toward your relationships, your passions, your purpose. Toward the woman God created you to be." Scripture Referenced Romans 12:2 – "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." Proverbs 3:5-6 – "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." Psalm 139:14 – "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Your Recovery Action Step Identify ONE area where you've been holding back in recovery, and take ONE step toward going ALL IN in that area this week. Write it down, share it with someone who will hold you accountable, and commit to taking that step even when it feels uncomfortable. Today's not your typical polished podcast episode. It's real, raw, and unfiltered—because that's what I needed, and maybe you do too.I recorded this right from my couch while processing a really tough day. My motivation was gone, my heart was heavy, and I was spiraling in overthinking. Then I cracked open Lessons for Living by Phil Stutz and felt seen. So I'm bringing three of the tools from that book straight to you:Speed: Why taking quick, messy action (even if you fail) is better than overthinking your way into success.Density: How doing more imperfect things can build momentum and confidence faster than doing one “perfect” thing.Nightly Review: A 10-minute reflection that helps you stay grounded and on purpose—even when everything feels like too much.I also open up about where I've been emotionally, how I've lost and rebuilt motivation, and what it's really like when the inner critic gets loud. You'll hear the tears, the laughter, and maybe see yourself in this story too.So cozy up. We're not fixing everything today—we're just showing up. And sometimes, that's more than enough.Links & Resources:Client Convo Mastery: Get over 50 scripts and templates for navigating awkward client conversations for at dawnbradley.com/convo Join Rock Your Business to align your decisions with your goals.Grab my FREE Masterclass on  Getting Out of Your Own Way and Actually Doing The Things That Make Your Business Grow.Follow me: Instagram: www.instagram.com/dawnbradleyYoutube: www.youtube.com/dawnbradley  For more info on RYB, Retreats etc: www.dawnbradley.com

Mood Matters: How Your Inner World Shapes Your Outer Experience

Encouragementology

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 22, 2025 44:24

SHOW NOTES: On this show…we are recognizing that moods matter because our inner world dramatically shapes our outer experience.  Have you ever waited on someone—or something—to change the energy in the room, cheer you up, or just make the day feel better? Maybe you've thought, “If they'd just smile,” or “If one good thing would happen, maybe I'd feel different.” We've all been there, hoping for a rescue from a funk we can't quite shake. But what if we've been giving away way too much power? What if the secret to turning the day around isn't out there somewhere, but already within us? In this episode, we're flipping the script. Instead of waiting for something to shift our mood, we're exploring how our mood might actually be the thing shifting everything else. How we think, how we feel, how we choose to respond—it all ripples out and shapes what comes next. Could it be that we're the thermostat, not the thermometer? That we're not just reacting to the world but co-creating it in real time? Let's dig into what this means, how to tell when our mindset is steering the ship (and when it's stuck in a ditch), and how we can use this awareness to show up differently—even when the world around us stays the same. Let's kick things off with a truth that feels simple on the surface but hits a little deeper the more you sit with it: your mood shapes your experience more than your experience shapes your mood. We often think we're reacting to what's happening around us, but in reality, we're often reacting to what's happening within us—and that response colors the whole scene. This idea leans into what psychologists call “emotional reasoning”—where we believe something is true based solely on how we feel. For example, if I feel overwhelmed, I assume the situation is chaotic. If I feel ignored, I assume people don't care. But the kicker? The situation may not actually be that bad—it just feels that way because of the emotional lens I'm looking through. It's like wearing sunglasses indoors and wondering why everything looks dim. Our brains are wired to scan for threats, to make quick judgments, and to look for evidence that supports how we already feel. That's called confirmation bias, and when we're in a funk, our minds will happily hand us proof that the day is, in fact, garbage. But here's the good news: once you realize this, you can interrupt the loop. You can change the glasses, so to speak. You can take back control of your mood and, with it, the way you engage with the world. So rather than waiting for something outside of you to cheer you up or “fix” the day, what if you became your own emotional thermostat? Not to fake positivity or push feelings aside—but to gently shift how you interpret the moment, choose your response, and create a ripple effect from the inside out. “All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone” - Blaise Pascal. Rates of burnout and overwhelm are soaring and yet the advice tends to be push harder and exercise more. For people struggling with burnout this can lead to illness and a crash. On the contrary, we need to embrace stillness and simply being. Doing nothing is not easy for most people, yet it is what our nervous system's are crying out for, and it is the path to developing true resilience.

“Always think positively" sounds like good advice - on the surface. But is it really possible, or even desirable? In this episode, Dominic Thiem and I explore why chasing constant positivity isn't the answer. Novak Djokovic weighed in on this idea in a 2024 interview, explaining why he doesn't agree with the idea that we should always think positively. Novak's ability to acknowledge and allow challenging thoughts and feelings, and then recenter himself, is what makes him probably the 'mentally toughest player' in the history of the sport;. It's been a busy year for Stuart and me, and we kick off the episode with some festive banter, steering clear of any Mariah Carey renditions—thankfully! Stuart reflects on how much we've achieved and the importance of this reflective time of year. Together, we unpack what made these five episodes so impactful and why they've captured the attention of our audience.  Coming in at number five, we discuss Episode 168 with the brilliant Claire Jenks, titled “So You Think You're Busy? How to Get Out of Overwhelm and Get Out of Your Own Way.” This episode tackled time management, productivity, and overcoming imposter syndrome—common themes that MSPs wrestle with daily. Stuart reminds us that time is finite, and how we choose to use it determines our success. He emphasises the power of saying “no” to less important demands to focus on what truly matters. As MSP leaders, finding time to prioritise and plan can transform the way we work, and this episode served as a timely reminder of how to do just that.  At number four, we revisit Episode 184 with Jay McBain, “The Future of Running Your MSP in an AI World.” AI dominated headlines this year, and this episode provided much-needed clarity on its practical application for MSPs. Stuart and I agree that while AI is exciting, the focus should remain on operational efficiency. It's not about chasing shiny objects but ensuring that existing tools and systems are fully utilised to deliver results. Jay's message that AI will augment—not replace—good old-fashioned SOPs resonated with many. The key takeaway? Use AI as a supercharger, not a distraction, and lean on your vendors to guide adoption in a meaningful way.  In third place is one of our early Ask Stuart episodes, Episode 143, “How to Get More Out of My Team.” This topic is close to the heart of every MSP owner who understands that their team is often the most significant investment in their business. Stuart reflects on how leadership, accountability, and communication are pivotal to maximising team potential. From the importance of defining your “Pied Piper tune” to creating a culture that aligns with your mission and values, this episode packed in valuable advice for improving team dynamics and achieving better results. It's no wonder it's one of the year's favourites.  At number two, we revisit Episode 147 with Mark Copeman from Wingman, “How to Get the Best Out of the MSP Global Event.” While this episode centred around preparing for events, it struck a deeper chord about the value of connection and learning. Stuart and I discussed the importance of defining success before attending any event, focusing on the right conversations and relationships to achieve meaningful outcomes. For many MSPs, getting out of their day-to-day bubble and engaging with peers and vendors at events is transformative. This episode captured that essence perfectly, and the feedback from listeners was phenomenal.  Finally, at the top spot, we celebrate Episode 144 with Julie Hutchinson, “The Art of Having a Difficult Conversation.” This episode was a runaway success, receiving ten times the downloads of our second-place podcast. Julie's expertise in guiding leaders through difficult conversations resonated deeply with our audience. Stuart highlights how avoiding difficult discussions only compounds problems, while Julie's frameworks provide a clear, structured way to address challenges positively. This episode wasn't just about managing tough topics; it reframed these conversations as opportunities to strengthen teams and drive results. It's no surprise it captured the hearts of so many listeners.  As Stuart and I reflect on 2024, we're immensely proud of what we've achieved. Helping over 50 MSPs this year has been a highlight, and we've streamlined our own processes to deliver even more value to our clients. From enhancing our accountability systems to evolving our maturity score framework, everything we've done this year has been driven by one mission: helping MSPs scale to £1 million and beyond while enjoying more time, profit, and freedom.  We've also launched the Future Leaders Programme, empowering our clients to take their businesses to the next level. It's been amazing to witness the confidence and transformation within our community. The energy, the success stories, and the feedback have been nothing short of inspiring.  As we sign off, Stuart and I want to thank you, our incredible listeners, for your support this year. Whether you've tuned in for tips, strategies, or just a bit of inspiration, we're grateful to have you on this journey. 2025 is set to be even bigger and better, and we can't wait to share what's coming next. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Read the show notes for today's episode at terricole.com/661

Today, on Notable Leaders' Radio, I will be responding to some questions sent in by listeners about wisdom. You don't have to wait until you're in your 50s or 60s to live with wisdom. You can step into it at any age. However, you will need to choose curiosity rather than judgment.   In today's episode, we discuss: today's episode, we discuss: Living in wisdom requires curiosity, compassion, forgiveness, grace, self-awareness, and intentionality. Learn to move forward on a new path without bringing past issues/stories with you. You can't solve today's technical issues with yesterday's technology. The same is true for you. Is it the journey or the destination that creates sustainable success and fulfillment? One of the big gifts of choosing to live in wisdom is that you get to dropkick judgment to the curb and replace it with curiosity. Are you your biggest obstacle? Often we can get on our own way by continually offering up excuses.  In today's episode of the Life On Your Terms Podcast, I chat with Aaron Velki, who runs the company "Get Out of Your Own Way." Aaron shares his entrepreneurial journey which began by coaching youth soccer at a young age. He realized he wanted to pursue his passion of teaching and mentoring full-time, rather than waiting until retirement age.  Aaron emphasizes the importance of aligning your goals and business with your core values and priorities in life. He cautions against chasing arbitrary revenue targets if it means sacrificing what truly matters to you. Their process helps entrepreneurs identify their ideal values, create a compelling vision for the future, and then develop actionable 6-month goals to make that vision a reality. We discuss key themes such as: not falling victim to limited beliefs, cutting out what doesn't serve you, delegating effectively, and designing your business/life congruently with your values. This conversation covers concepts like grit, failure as learning experiences, time management, and the power of pulling your future vision into the present through focused effort. Overall, it promotes self-awareness to shape your entrepreneurial journey in a more purposeful, values-driven manner. Aaron Velky is a transformational coach on a mission to help you solve your biggest problem: You. He works with entrepreneurs in pursuit of more, not living the life they know they are capable of. He's been through all the things that kept him from living the life he wanted: being his own worst enemy, believing his own excuses, and not having someone to hold him accountable to change. He's a truthful, gritty but authentic coach, fighting fearlessly no matter the size of the obstacle for those who have been silenced or have been told to shrink rather than go for their big, audacious dream.  What we discuss: 0:00 Aaron's background and journey into entrepreneurship through coaching soccer. 2:14 Making his "retirement plan" his business by teaching what he learned. 5:26 Pursuing his passion for coaching soccer at a young age.   12:25 Starting the nonprofit Money Club to teach financial literacy. 16:54 Pivoting when Money Club and his book were disrupted by COVID-19. 19:54 Maintaining resilience during the challenging COVID period. 27:00 Calculations that gave him a safety net to leave W2 job at 27.  33:26 Being a perpetual learner to have more to teach. 41:00 Get Out of Your Own Way's process for client clarity and alignment. 58:00 Examples of clients achieving desired lifestyles by realigning priorities. 1:01:02 Importance of coaching to maximize potential and gain outside perspective. Launch Your Box Podcast with Sarah Williams | Start, Launch, and Grow Your Subscription Box

Can anyone start a subscription box business? Yes. I truly believe this.  I say it all of the time - I'm not special. And no, that doesn't mean I don't think I'm great or suffer from a lack of confidence. It just means I don't have anything you don't have.  I'm an ordinary person who doesn't give up. And it's that “not giving up” piece that matters. That's the thing you need to have if you're going to not just start a subscription box, but launch and grow one into a successful, sustainable business.  And we all have the ability to not give up.  It's about being consistent - in anything. You don't have to be the best… you just have to be consistent. That's what I've done, that's what so many of my students have done, and - if a subscription box business is what you want - that's what you need to do, too.  My beginning looked like a lot of you:  I was a solopreneur - and a mom - working from my kitchen table while my kids slept.  I schlepped my products to craft shows and pop-up shops all over Texas (and Texas is BIG, y'all!)  I found the courage to rent a tiny, 600-square-foot space and called it my first retail location.  I dreamed of starting a subscription box for years. I didn't know how I would do it, but I had a fire burning inside of me that meant I had to try.  I want you to know it takes just one action. Just one that leads to another and another. Before you know it? You're running a legit business that gives you a paycheck and freedom you've never felt.  So, the answer to, “Can anyone do this? Can anyone start a subscription box?” is yes!  Anyone can start a subscription box.  It doesn't matter if you've never sold products before. In episode 3 of this podcast, I talked with Anne Stuccio. Anne is a practicing dentist who had only ever purchased supplies for her office. It didn't matter because Anne was also passionate about providing a subscription box experience for female dentists. So she figured it out. She took one action and then the next and the next.  It doesn't matter how old you are. Next week on the podcast, I'm talking with Bev Schweigert. Bev started her business when she was 55 after being retired for six months. And last year? She brought in a quarter of a million dollars in sales!  It doesn't matter if you've got kids at home. Stop waiting. In episode 29 of the podcast, I chat with Amy Green, mother of three including a son with special needs. This is her time to do something for herself and she's thriving with her subscription box business - the business she built around her life and her son's needs.  I want you to understand that whatever reason you think you can't doesn't matter. We can all do this.  I've been doing this for a long time and most days, I'm winging it. Today, during a LIVE, I tripped over my mannequin and my entire backdrop fell down!  I'm not special. But I know anyone can rinse and repeat my success. So many of my students have done just that!  The first step is to lay it out and visualize what this could look like for you. I have a free workshop that helps you do exactly that. It's called the 6 in 60 workshop and you can find it at 6in60workshop.com. Grab a pen and some post-it notes and let's lay it out together. Once you can see it, you'll know it is possible for you.  Join me for this episode and discover why I believe anyone can start a subscription box and how you can take the first steps toward making your subscription box dreams come true.   Growing Your Community! with Sarah Williams & Tony Durso Episode 3 - How one LYB Member Hit $10K Monthly with Her Subscription Box Business  Episode 129 - Getting Out of Your Own Way and Gaining 100 Subscribers 6 in 60 Workshop Join me in all the places:  Facebook Instagram Launch Your Box with Sarah Website  Are you ready for Launch Your Box?
