We went over the LA Rams initial 53 man roster on yesterday's podcast. Now it looks like they will be putting Ochaun Mathis on short term IR and adding kicker Brett Maher. I offer my grades on each of the Rams position groups as they stand today, and take a close look at their 15-man practice squad.
There were a few surprises with the LA Rams initial 53 man roster; no kicker, no Brett Rypien, no Logan Bruss, and no Marquise Copeland. All 14 draft picks made the team, although Ochaun Mathis will move to short term IR. Look for a couple of more cuts and additions in the coming days. For now Scott Richmond and I discuss the initial roster and give you our first impression of each position group. www.ramsup.com https://www.youtube.com/@laramsup
1. NFC North -Bears (Was Darnell Wright worth it with the #10 overall pick? Why Bill is more bullish on Gervon Dexter, Sr. than he is on Zaach Pickens. What is Roschon Johnson's likely role in the Bears offense? Why Bill believes the selection of Tyler Scott should NOT preclude the Bears from re-signing Darnell Mooney) -Lions (Why did the Lions ignore positional value in the first round? Why Sam LaPorta over Michael Mayer? What roles will Brian Branch play this season with similarly versatile DB C.J. Gardner-Johnson in the fold as well?) -Packers (Why Lukas Van Ness must be utilized very similarly as George Karlaftis. How do Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft complement one another?) -Vikings (Why is Jordan Addison a worthy successor to Adam Thielen?) 2. NFC South -Panthers (Why did Carolina take Bryce Young over C.J. Stroud? What does Jonathan Mingo bring to the Panthers offense right away?) -Falcons (What role does Tyler Allgeier play with Bijan Robinson now the lead RB in Atlanta? Why will Zach Harrison have a healthy role in the Falcons base defense this year?) -Saints (Bill on why overall expectations for Bryan Bresee and Isaiah Foskey must be tempered. What makes Kendre Miller a worthy long-term replacement for Alvin Kamara?) -Bucs (Why is Calijah Kancey in excellent position to thrive in Tampa? Bill on why he LOVES rookie pass rushers YaYa Diaby and Jose Ramirez) 3. NFC East -Commanders (Why is Emmanuel Forbes a better scheme fit for Washington than Christian Gonzalez? Why did the Commanders choose Jartavius Martin over his fellow versatile Illinois DB Sydney Brown?) -Giants (Why did the Giants select the higher ceiling Deonte Banks over the higher floor Joey Porter, Jr.? What are the best long-term expectations for Jalin Hyatt?) -Cowboys (Is Micah Parsons excitement about Mazi Smith warranted? How does Luke Schoonmaker help the Cowboys execute their new offensive system right away?) -Eagles (If the Eagles keep Hassan Reddick in the fold for another 2-4 years, how will Nolan Smith be utilized? Does Tyler Steen have a shot at the starting right guard spot this year? What makes Sydney Brown so special and what will his role be this season?) 4. NFC West -Cardinals (Why were Paris Johnson, Jr., Garrett Williams and Michael Wilson all very good pick to establish the new culture?) -Seahawks (Does the addition of Devon Witherspoon make this the best Seattle secondary since the Legion of Boom? Do the Seahawks have the most dangerous WR trio in the NFL outside Cincinnati with the addition of Jaxon Smith-Njigba? Why Bill believes Kenneth Walker III will still receive two-thirds of the carries despite the selection of Zach Charbonnet) -Rams (What should we expect from rookie edge rushers Byron Young, Nick Hampton and Ochaun Mathis this season? Can Stetson Bennett be a good "bridge QB" in addition to being a good backup?) -49ers (How will Ji'Ayir Brown complement Talanoa Hufanga?)
On this episode of Monday Night Therapy, Todd and I talked about: Football players in the transfer portal! Casey Thompson - why did he leave? How much will it hurt? Ajay Allen - Todd thinks he was the best running back we had. He'd take Ajay over Rahmir Johnson! This comment had me clutching imaginary pearls as one commenter stated. Stephon Wynn - Richard Torres Logan Smothers We concluded that Matt Rhule has won the 2023 offseason national champship, crushing all others. Cayden Becker - a walk-on player who will play TE/H-back at Nebraska transferring in from Wyoming. NFL Draft Only two Cornhuskers drafted: Ochaun Mathis and Trey Palmer Iowa had some players drafted that they seemed to barely use. Todd believes the reason Green Bay drafted Lukas Van Ness is because his sisters are hot as is his girlfriend, and as influencers they will bring much money to Green Bay. Volleyball Had their spring game event in Central City 82,000 people bought tickets to watch volleyball in Memorial Stadium There is a discussion of hot volleyball players, which causes me to remember Annie Adamczak Baseball Has entered the Jekyll/Hyde part of the season NDSU and Maryland Softball 0-3 vs. Northwestern - ouch! -Every B1G school but Indiana had a player drafted this year, but Nebraska was 3rd to last with 2 players (Ochaun Mathis and Trey Palmer, both in the 6th round); and Rutgers, who had 1 player drafted -Michigan led the way in the B1G with 9 players drafted, and Ohio State/Penn State both had 6 players drafted. In the West, Purdue (who won the division) had 5 players drafted, followed by Iowa, Northwestern (!) and Illinois with 4 players; and Minnesota/Wisconsin with 3 -Also, it's not only the fact that Nebraska had only 2 players drafted; it's that they were late Day 3 picks. As Sip says, no All-Americans is a problem and has been for Nebraska on the field -Is it better to sign with a team as an undrafted free agent versus being a seventh-round pick? -Garrett Nelson signed with Miami and had 11 other offers from different NFL teams -Seeing all of the talented players that signed as undrafted free agents, it reminds us of how difficult it is to get drafted. Deuce Vaughn is a great example of this -With the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft, Georgia now has all of their 2021 defense drafted -Even with the recent struggles, Nebraska is still in the top 10 for all-time draft picks Show sponsored by GANA TRUCKINGAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Nebraska heads to Michigan on Friday and the Husker247 crew has the coverage you want for a game that certainly looked more interesting before the season started. 1620 The Zone host Josh Peterson joined the group to chat about the game and the conversation started with quarterback play and who the Huskers might put out there between Chubba Purdy and Logan Smothers. From there it was discussed both how the Huskers can move the ball and if Trey Palmer or Anthony Grant can have a bigger game against a tough Michigan defense. Finally while talking offense there's a debate on if we could see more tight end or running back receiving usage after the success the Huskers found last year? Defensively Nebraska won't have Myles Farmer after his suspension for getting a DUI. What does that mean for the Huskers? How has Ochaun Mathis looked this year? Who can use Saturday as a way to get developmental reps? Then it's time for oddly specific predictions which get a little kicker heavy and each participant makes a pick to click and a score prediction. Does anyone pick Nebraska to win? No. But can the Huskers cover on Saturday? Be sure to subscribe to the Husker247 Podcast wherever you listen to have episodes downloaded automatically to your listening device.
