In this episode of the Other Six Podcast, we dive into what it means to live the 3D life Jesus demonstrated — a life lived up with the Father, in with community, and out to the world. We talk about what happens when we fall out of balance, how to make prayer a daily priority, and why Scripture feeds our souls just like bread fuels our bodies. We also unpack how living “in” with others multiplies our faith, how to find hope in seasons of struggle, and what it truly means to leave a legacy that reflects the image of God.
What does it mean to live up to your name? For believers, the title “Christian” isn't just a personal label—it's a public declaration that you belong to Jesus Christ. That identity brings both privilege and responsibility. In Going Public, Part 2, Stephen Davey explores Acts 4 and the example of the early believers who bore Christ's name boldly in a hostile world. Their courage, consistency, and compassion not only honored the Lord but also left a lasting impression on those around them. This episode challenges us to consider how our identity in Christ shapes our conduct in everyday life—whether at work, at school, or in our communities. When people know you follow Jesus, they'll watch to see if your life aligns with your claim. Through biblical insight and practical application, Stephen Davey encourages you to live so that your name and your testimony speak the same message. If you've ever wondered how to represent Christ well in a skeptical culture—or felt the weight of carrying His name—this message will equip and inspire you to live in a way that honors Him and draws others to the gospel. Stephen Davey's newest book, The Disciples Prayer, is available now. https://www.wisdomonline.org/store/view/the-disciples-prayer-hardback

The Orange Blossom Classic was nothing less than an abject disaster on one side of the field. The offense was anemic and left the fanbase asking questions that will haunt them for weeks. Chief among those questions will be centered around the quarterback position and if change is needed or should the staff dig in its heels behind RJ.It was a poor showing from that offense and that has to correctedBut the Defense and Special teams were a bright spot in what otherwise proved to be a disappointing outcome. While the football team massively fumbled the bag, the Volleyball team gave us some hope. Let's talk about FAMULY, I picked FAMU to win based on what I was told the QB position might be but now have reservations after seeing otherwise. The season is not over, but the showing in the OBC is definitely below the standard of FAMU faithful. #FangsUp #FAMU #HBCU #HBCUdigital

Walk Like Jesus - Pt 3 - A Radical Standard - We may impress people in a variety of ways. But how we spend eternity depends on whether we live up the standard God has set for us. And as Jesus shows in this passage, His standard is much higher and harder than anything this world demands. The rest of the series is really commentary on this teaching.
Are You Living Up To Your Potential?Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”The Lord has planned out your life. Before you were even formed, He had a plan for your life. Isn't that crazy to think about? His plans for your life are good plans. He tells us directly, we don't even have to guess, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you.” If we know that God has plans for us to prosper, then why do we sometimes run away from these plans? God's plans are to give us hope and a future, so why do we question these plans? Why is it so hard for us to believe that God has plans for us?I have been doing a lot of personal development, and I am in a Christian mentoring group called Big Life Mentoring. In all of the personal development books, as well as the mentoring, they talk about how we have a God-given potential. They talk about how we were all created to live an exceptional life. God wants nothing but the best for us. Does this mean that we will never have challenges? Nope. It does mean that He will be with us in those challenges and He will use those challenges for our good, not for our harm. I have talked with numerous people over the last several years about my belief that God created us all to live a big life. It is usually met with some opposition. I have been told that some people were created for a big, amazing life, and some people were not. Some people were created to have an “ok” life. Where they just go about their day, and nothing special happens. They were not created to do great things.I disagree with this. I do not think that God created any of us to just go through our days, day in and day out, just existing. I do not believe He wants that for any of us. I am also not saying that every person was created to be a movie star or make some huge impact on the whole world. I do think that we all have the same potential for doing great things with our lives. How we use that potential could look very different for everyone. Someone could use that potential to be a movie star, a priest, a mom, a lawyer, a doctor, anything you desire. I don't think it's the career you choose or the role you play that defines you. I think it is more about how you are showing up in that career/role. You do not have to go on a mission trip to another country to change people's lives. If you are a parent, you are impacting lives every day with your parenting. People are always watching you, and you could be changing lives in the grocery store when someone watches you handle a complaint respectfully. There are many ways that you could have a positive impact on the world. The opposite of this is true as well. If you are walking through life angry and taking it out on all that you see, this will also be observed by others and could be changing lives, but not for the better. If that is you, that is not the life that God has planned for you. I wonder sometimes how many of us are actually living up to our potential. Are you living up to the potential that God has placed within you? A lot of people that I talk to are settling for mediocrity. They are not truly happy with their life, and they think that is just how life is. They don't seek to change anything because they don't feel they deserve more, or maybe they don't think there is anything better out there, or perhaps they don't feel they're capable of having more. I want to tell you right now that if you are unhappy with where you are in life, there is more. God has more planned for you. Where you are now does not have to be a final destination. It could be a resting place until you are ready for the more that God has planned for you. What is it that you really want to do? What is it that makes your heart light up when you talk about it? This could be something big, like start a non-profit, write a book, change careers, or it could also be as simple as seeing my grandkids more, being in nature, going to daily mass, or spending more time in prayer. Whatever it is deep inside that you're longing for, go get it. God has given you the potential to achieve all your dreams. Are you living up to your potential? Is there more you could be doing? You may be listening to this and thinking that I am wrong, that not everyone was made for an extraordinary life. That you were made for an ordinary life and nothing more. I would argue that your outlook might be the difference between an ordinary life and an extraordinary life. Two people may have very similar lives, as far as marriage, kids, career, income, etc. Yet one may be living an extraordinary life, and one may be living an ordinary life. What is the difference? The one living an extraordinary life has a positive outlook on their life. They are on the lookout for the miracles that occur every day and are willing to acknowledge them. They are also looking for ways that they can excel in the roles that they have. They are looking for opportunities to improve the life they have. The one living an ordinary life is on the lookout for all the ways his/her life is ordinary, and so that is all they see. They do not see opportunities to improve their life and assume that what they have is the best it is going to get. God wants amazing things for you and your family. It is not too late. You are not too young. You are not too old. You have not been out of the game too long. You are not too inexperienced. You are strong enough. You are smart enough. You have so much potential. That thing that you have always wanted to do, it is not too late. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” You can do all things through Christ. Do that thing, that thing you have been putting off, that thing that you have been too scared to do, that thing that you are convinced you can't do. Why do you think you have that desire deep inside of you? Who do you think put that desire there? And if God put that desire there, don't you think he will equip you with all you need to achieve it? Are you living up to your potential? Dear Heavenly Father, I ask that you bless everyone listening to this episode today. Lord Jesus, we ask that you help us live up to our potential. We thank you for putting these desires in our hearts and for equipping us to achieve them. Lord, we ask that you give us the motivation and strength we need to live the life you want us to live. Lord, if we are not living the life you want us to live or if we're not living up to our potential, we ask that you shine a light on this and convict our hearts on what you want us to do. Lord, we want all that you have to offer, and we willingly accept it. You are amazing, Lord, and we are so very thankful for all that you do. We love you very much and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus' holy name, Amen.Thank you so much for joining me on this journey to walk boldly with Jesus. She's the author of Rich Girl Nation: Taking Charge of Our Financial Futures. Notes: If you're not curious about it, you're not going to give it your all. But if you are, you can become relentless. Chase your curiosity and obsessions with great rigor. That passion and love for whatever the thing is can lead to big opportunities in your life. Do you want 100% of a grape or 25% of a watermelon? Advice Katie got when she was considering accepting the offer to be acquired by Morning Brew. The importance of having a coach. Katie talked about the life-changing impact her coach, Elizabeth, has had on her. Ambitious, motivated people who have high standards need help, too. In fact, maybe as much as anyone. It's worth it to invest in yourself and find a person to talk with 1 on 1. Parents - High expectations, straight A's or bust. Driven, hard to turn it off. The Morning Brew acquisition - Money with Katie. Worked at Meta and did Money with Katie at the same time. Left for the acquisition. Austin Rief (CEO) DM'd her on Twitter and made an offer during their first 30-minute conversation. Big lesson - Your IP is everything. Book Dedication - “To the anonymous guy who 'works in finance' that used to relentlessly comment on my nascent website in 2018, urging me to quit writing about money and 'keep it to myself. I hope you're well." Acknowledgments - “Mom, for all those quiet days spent sitting on the floor of the Lents branch library or wandering the stacks at Barnes & Noble. Dad, for spending your time after work at the kitchen table with me every time my homework involved numbers, and for being my number one fan.” How much money do you need to be financially free? Katie breaks down the 4% rule, why it works, and how it can be personalized and optimized for each person's retirement needs. High Standards Can Be a Double-Edged Sword – "I am an incredibly driven person because of the people who raised me... But I also have a really hard time with turning it off. I can become very narrow-minded and obsessive about the things that I'm doing." Turn Critics Into Fuel – Katie dedicated her book to an anonymous finance professional who told her to "quit writing about money" and "keep it to herself." Sometimes the best fuel comes from those who doubt you. Money Transparency in Families Creates Advantages – Katie's parents openly discussed finances, including sharing their income. "I never really thought of it as something that was taboo... made it a lot easier for me now as an adult." The Power of Life Coaching for Entrepreneurs – After initial skepticism, Katie found a life coach who told her, "You are way too in your head. You are way too concerned with the minutia. You don't even know where you wanna go yet." Intellectual Property is Everything in Negotiations – "Your intellectual property is the most valuable thing that you are negotiating over... The primary value of the thing that I'm spending 60 hours a week working on needs to be accruing to me." The 25x Rule for Financial Freedom – Based on the 4% withdrawal rule: "Once you have accumulated 25 times your annual spending... You should theoretically be able to use 4% of that amount every year, withdraw it, and live on it." Marriage Changes Everything Financially – "Marriage is the most legally significant thing you will do in your life other than die, and you don't get so much as a leaflet about how your rights have just changed." Prenups Aren't About Distrust – They're about legal protection, especially for anyone who might leave the workforce. "If you spend decades out of the workforce... You need to ensure that if your partnership ends someday... You will have a certain amount of income." Desire Drives Excellence – "If you're not curious about it, you are not going to give it your all... There is such a difference in outcomes. If I am really into something that I'm working on, it's gonna be second to none."

The Bright Method Podcast: Realistic Time Management for Working Women
Today's episode is a little different. I've been turning over the idea of “living up to your potential” for years, and I'm finally putting words to why it bothers me so much. If that phrase has ever driven your decision-making—or weighed on you in a way you couldn't quite articulate—I think it's worth examining and challenging it. I'm not saying you shouldn't want more or chase goals. But I believe this phrase often leads us away from what we actually want – to choices that are disconnected from our happiness and real desires. And ironically, it can even block us from having the real impact we might be seeking in the first place. In this episode, I share: Why the phrase “fulfilling your potential” feels made up How it shows up in conversations and decision-making, especially among ambitious women Why this framing often leads us to dismiss our own happiness, joy, and satisfaction A story about how, if I'd used “potential” as a decision-making guide, I might never have left law—and never started the business I love (and arguably is me "fulfilling my potential" "more," if that makes sense) A powerful quote from a podcast that hit me hard: “I guess I'd rather be special than happy” Why none of this is about shaming ambition—but about grounding our goals in what we want The danger of measuring life through a blurry concept that doesn't actually have a finish line A reminder that we can want what we want—and that can be enough If you've internalized the "fulfilling your potential" message, I hope this episode helps you question the story behind that phrase. What if there is no fixed “potential” you have to live up to? You get to want what you want—and build your life around that. Let me know what you think. Matthew and Riki dive into Severance Season 2, exploring the philosophical questions raised about identity, consciousness, and corporate culture while examining where the show succeeds and falls short in its sophomore season. Is Season 2 Living Up to the Promise of Season 1?Both hosts acknowledge feeling somewhat let down by Season 2, with Riki noting it "asks more questions than it answers" in typical mystery box fashion. While the first season brilliantly established the premise of people separating their work and personal consciousness, the second season prioritizes expanding the mysterious corporate lore rather than fully exploring the ethical questions at its core. What Makes Someone a "Real" Person? The most compelling aspect of Severance remains its exploration of what constitutes personhood. The show presents characters whose consciousness is split between "innies" (work selves) and "outies" (outside selves), raising profound questions about which version is the "real" person and whether eliminating one version constitutes a form of death. The hosts particularly praise Dylan's storyline, where his innie falls in love with his outie's wife, creating a fascinating ethical dilemma about identity and relationships.Does the Show Fall Into Problematic Tropes?Riki points out how the season finale's romantic choice falls into troubling tropes, with Mark S choosing Helly over his wife Gemma. The hosts discuss the racial implications of this storyline, noting how it perpetuates patterns where Asian women are portrayed as "damsels in distress" rather than equal romantic partners. This choice undermines the more profound philosophical questions about identity by reducing them to a conventional love triangle.Other Topics CoveredThe show's "mystery box" approach and whether it delivers satisfying answersOffice culture representation and corporate cults as commentary on modern tech companiesCharacter development for Harmony Cobel and the mysterious Miss WongThe metaphorical significance of severance in our own compartmentalized livesComparison to shows like Dollhouse that explore similar themes of identityThe cinematography and standout episodes from Season 2The hosts conclude that while Severance Season 2 has moments of brilliance, particularly in episodes like Harmony Cobel's hometown visit, it ultimately prioritizes expanding its mysterious lore over answering the profound ethical questions that made the first season so compelling. Though both hosts express disappointment with certain aspects of the season, they remain intrigued enough to continue following the series and its exploration of identity, corporate culture, and consciousness. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network.
