The Mall of America, in Bloomington, Minnesota, opened on 11th August, 1992, with more than 10,000 employees, 330 stores, and a Camp Snoopy theme park. With a gross area of 4.8 million square feet, the mall remains the largest in the United States; its roughly 40 million annual visitors equal to around eight times the population of the state of Minnesota. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly reveal how the mall is heated, despite having no central heating system; explain how the modern American shopping mall was, bizarrely, derived from Victor Gruen's socialist utopia; and consider how it overcame the ‘Megadeath' label to become one of America's top tourist attractions…  Further Reading: • ‘Why You Should Visit Mall of America for Its Experiences Over Shopping' (Business Insider, 2022): https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-mall-of-america-experiences-better-than-shopping-minneapolis-2022-4?r=US&IR=T#away-from-the-big-attractions-that-make-it-unique-mall-of-america-just-felt-like-any-upscale-mall-35 • ‘The Unofficial Guide to Mall of America - By Beth Blair' (Unofficial Guides, 2016): https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/The_Unofficial_Guide_to_Mall_of_America/U4wWDgAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=mall+of+america&pg=PA12&printsec=frontcover • ‘Mall of America Preview' (WCCO 4 News, 1992): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PZcP4A5CkQ #80s #US #Business #Fashion #Architecture Love the show? What a crazy wild ride this year has been. None of us would ever have predicted we'd be living and navigating through a pandemic. Although this year was a shitstorm we learned so many lessons along the way. I'd love to share with y'all a year-end recap of what powerful lessons I've learned and how they've helped me become a better person. In today's episode, we'll be learning about: ·      DUMPSTER FIRE: Although most of us felt like this year was a total dumpster fire. I see it as throwing all the crap that no longer serves us into a dumpster and setting all that crap on fire. ·      SHEDDING LIGHT: What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Although this year has challenged us in ways we never thought possible, We've become stronger. ·      MINDFUL: Becoming more mindful and present has helped me move from more gratitude for everything i have (not what I don't have) Moved from to lack to appreciation ·      PROCESSING: Big lesson I've learned on a next level was to properly process and feel my emotions. When a feeling comes up gain awareness, accept, and move through life challenges. ·      WEIGHTED VEST: Leaving the weight of my shadow self and darkness behind me. Learning how to face your demons and setting them free.  About The Host: Melanie is uberly passionate about all things mindset, nutrition, and wellness. She's been deep diving into the wellness industry for over six years. In this episode, we maxed out our conference call lines while debating the 1964 drama-thriller movie, Fail-Safe. What happens when you can't recall your own nuclear bombers en route to Moscow? How many air planes can you knock out of the sky with a nuclear bomb? How do you convince your enemy that accidents -- even nuclear ones -- do happen? The podcast hosts and special guest/TCM guru Victoria answer these questions and more. Before our podcast's phone line melted in a fireball, we recommended reading L. Douglas Keeney, 15 Minutes: General Curtis Lemay and the Countdown to Nuclear Annihilation (St. Martin's Griffin, 2012) and two articles at the National Security Archive (see links below).
