Once upon a time, there was a boy named Luke who always loved making things with paper. One day, his dad taught him a special folding technique for a paper airplane that could do anything Luke wanted. Luke couldn't believe how this airplane could do anything he wanted it to! But it wasn't long until the airplane attracted some unwanted attention. Storyland is a podcast that brings kids' stories to life for children of all ages. Introducing Ko Yohan's short story [Paper Airplane], we talk about people living below the poverty line. Translated by Bruce and Ju-chan Fulton
On today's show we are talking about the right way to build a paper airplane. When I first graduated university and was a new hire at Bell Northern Research in the microprocessor development team, I attended a company training course that was an entire week long. One of our first assignments during that week was a design exercise. The assignment was to design a paper airplane. We were given two sheets of paper. One sheet of paper was to build the actual prototype of our amazing paper airplane. The second sheet of paper was to write the manufacturing instructions for someone else to build the airplane. The paper airplane had to fly the width of the conference room which was not that large. ----------------- **Real Estate Espresso Podcast:** Spotify: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://open.spotify.com/show/3GvtwRmTq4r3es8cbw8jW0?si=c75ea506a6694ef1) iTunes: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/the-real-estate-espresso-podcast/id1340482613) Website: [www.victorjm.com](http://www.victorjm.com) LinkedIn: [Victor Menasce](http://www.linkedin.com/in/vmenasce) YouTube: [The Real Estate Espresso Podcast](http://www.youtube.com/@victorjmenasce6734) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/realestateespresso](http://www.facebook.com/realestateespresso) Email: [podcast@victorjm.com](mailto:podcast@victorjm.com) **Y Street Capital:** Website: [www.ystreetcapital.com](http://www.ystreetcapital.com) Facebook: [www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital](https://www.facebook.com/YStreetCapital) Instagram: [@ystreetcapital](http://www.instagram.com/ystreetcapital)
Season 05 Episode 02: More than just paper airplanes: The projectiles impacting our teachers"I have injury statistics on teachers," inivites Sara, "Tell me how is it that they are struck by flying objects? Hit by projectiles!" That question leads to confessions by the boys as they recall their school days. Sara remembers her Italian language teacher who used to throw chalk at students. "It's the reverse now!" exclaims Trajce.Sara challenges the team to consider the enduring impact of good design, starting with the environment for a lasting effect on those using the space; positively, if well designed. Alan connects with this idea. Trajce links the teaching woes to past discussions on the stressors faced by teachers, explored in in S02 E13: An upstanding citizen with salmon in his pocket. The team can't help but travel south in their conversation, recalling the story of a teacher caught on film, after hours, in the most inconvenient way.
If you fold a sheet of paper just right, you can create a paper airplane that zooms through the air! But how do you make sure that your plane zooms across a room instead of nose-diving into the couch cushions? What makes a good paper airplane? We asked physics grad student Angie Huerta to help us find the answer.Got a question that's just plane fun? Send it to us at BrainsOn.org/contact, and we'll launch an answer your way!

Welcome to May 26, 2022 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate living it up in “Salsaville” and flights of fancy. June 2010 was a great time for fans of tortilla chips—specifically those who were living near Jacksonville, Texas. Bob Blumer, host of Food Network Canada's “Glutton for Punishment” and 20 volunteers chopped up ingredients like tomatoes, onions, jalapeños, and limes to create the world's biggest bowl of salsa ever. This record-setting feat resulted in over 2,672 pounds of the delicious Mexican condiment. Once the Guinness Book of World Records verified the feat, Jacksonville mayor Robert Haberle officially changed the name of the city to “Salsaville”—for the next 24 hours, anyway. May is National Salsa Month. Celebrate with some of your favorite Mexican food or just a big bowl of chips and salsa. Though “big” is relative, I suppose. You may think of paper airplanes as kid stuff, but some people take it very seriously. Ken Blackburn set the record for the longest paper airplane flight, when his craft stayed aloft for an unbelievable 27.6 seconds. In fairness Ken is an aeronautical engineer for the Air Force, who has written a few books on the science of folding paper airplanes. No doubt his skills would make even the Wright Brothers jealous. Try your hand at a tournament if you're feeling competitive about your own skills. Or you can just enjoy an easy pastime with the kids, who still love the simple thrill of watching something fly. Whatever you do on National Paper Airplane Day, celebrate the art of folding and flight. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
