The Records Revisited podcast quickly became one of my favorite shows due to its authenticity and genuine love for music. Ben and Wayne, the hosts, have a great rapport with their guests and delve deep into the music that has shaped their lives. As a listener, I appreciate how this show connects me with people who share my belief that music truly matters. It's refreshing to find a community of like-minded individuals who understand the profound impact that music can have on our lives. I also want to mention that as I write this review, I am proudly wearing my Violent Femmes concert t-shirt, which is just another testament to how much this podcast resonates with me.
One of the best aspects of The Records Revisited podcast is the way it introduces listeners to new artists and albums. Ben and Wayne have an incredible ability to curate their content in a way that exposes listeners to both iconic albums and lesser-known gems. Through their interviews with notable musicians, they provide insightful commentary and analysis on these records, allowing listeners to discover new favorites along the way. Additionally, I really enjoy the song ranking aspect of the show, where both hosts and guests rank songs from worst to first on their favorite albums. It's an engaging concept that keeps me actively involved in the discussion and even encourages me to do my own rankings.
As much as I love this podcast, there are a couple of minor drawbacks worth mentioning. Firstly, while Ben excels at conducting guest interviews, sometimes his voice reminds me a bit too much of Howard Stern's. This personal preference doesn't detract from the overall quality of the podcast but may be something worth noting for other listeners who may feel similarly. Secondly, while The Records Revisited covers a wide range of albums and genres, there may be occasional instances where certain albums or artists receive more attention than others. However, considering the vastness of music history, it's understandable that some favorites will take precedence over others.
In conclusion, The Records Revisited podcast is a true gem for music lovers. Its format, engaging hosts, and insightful guests make it an absolute joy to listen to. This show has inspired me to revisit albums I haven't heard in years and approach them with fresh ears, resulting in a renewed appreciation for the music that shaped my life. Moreover, it has introduced me to new artists and albums that have become instant favorites. For anyone looking to dive deep into the world of music and discover hidden musical treasures, I highly recommend giving this podcast a listen.

Wayne, Michael Citro and I are starting our pregaming early for a concert in May. Rick Springfield, John Waite, Wang Chung, and John Cafferty are all on one bill. Is there another album from any of those artists that we should do another pregaming episode about? We're not so sure after listening to this album again. Anyone remember the Mayflies USA? I got a promo copy of "Summertown" in 1998 and I fell in love with the album. They went on a massive hiatus but got together to record their latest album "Kickless Kids" set for release in May 2025. When I got a press release about this, I immediately asked if they could come on the show to talk about their career, the new album, and albums (and some songs) important to them.We talk with Matt McMichaels and Adam Price about the new album but also talk about Bob Mould, power pop (and finally embracing that genre tag), Jackson Mississippi, trying to emulate the Replacements (the self sabotage aspect), getting produced by Mitch Easter and Chris Stamey, Keith Richard, Steely Dan, and more.If you're not a fan yet, I think you will be after this.Check out The Mayflies USA at: https://www.facebook.com/themayfliesusaCheck out other episodes at RecordsRevisitedPodcast.com or one all your favorite podcast providers like Apple Podcasts, Castbox, iHeartMedia, and Spotify. Man, this was fun. I've been on a Drive-By Truckers kick since the holidays since I decided to do a full discography listen as a way of pregaming for seeing the band for the first time in early February. That show was pure awesomeness. This was one of our Patreon Revisitor shows with Kevin Peters picking the album. We asked Stephen Deusner, author of Where the Devil Don't Stay: Traveling the South with the Drive-By Truckers (American Music Series): Deusner, Stephen: 9781477318041: Amazon.com: Books to join us. And, no Drive-By Truckers episode could be recorded without our buddy Jason Earle of the Marinade who is a DBT superfan.I think y'all will dig this one, even if you're not super familiar with DBT. Dissecting any Police record is a lot of fun and doing it with Daryl was a blast. Y'all go check out his last album "Devil's Milhopper." Maybe the name Jerry Hey doesn't ring any bells for you. But, you've been listening to songs that Jerry has played his trumpet on or has arranged for probably your entire life. He became one of Quincy Jones' main studio guys. He arranged strings on "Billie Jean," played on Brothers Johnson and Earth Wind & Fire and George Benson albums, that's him on Dolly's "9 to 5," and he's been on a ton of TV and movie soundtracks (yep, that's him on the CHiPs theme song). And, since I'm reengineering the "Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon" to "Seven Degrees of Dan Fogelberg"....that's Jerry on the flugelhorn for the "Longer" solo. Prove me wrong.I won't guarantee that you'll like the album. It was a slow burn for me. Spoiler alert: His album is REALLY FREAKING GOOD.One note: I overlooked that Pearl Jam was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Do the Evolution" that was won by Page and Plant for "Most High." Growing up in the Northwest, the Young Fresh Fellows were our Replacements. Our Big Star. Our "fill in the blank for the band that never got the due they deserved." They were an American Band that just played some good time rock 'n roll. And, Scott McCaughey was the driving force for the band. He's done alright for himself along the way...being a part of R.E.M. for years, The Minus 5, The Baseball Project. Scott is a legend. So, when I had a chance to be self indulgent in discussing both baseball (based on the Baseball Project's latest record) AND "The Men Who Loved Music" with Scott....well...I think you can probably tell that I was super pumped to have the opportunity. We dig through the stories behind the songs on the album...and relive a little of that time period in the '80s (shout outs to PLU, Amy Grant, The Fastbacks, Dave Niehaus and more). Even if you're not familiar with Scott or this band, I think you'll enjoy the conversation.
