In this episode we take a listen to some music from each of the games included on the PC Engine/Turbografx mini. At the time of this podcast the console has been delayed but that won't stop us from celebrating it's existence... If it DOES exist that is. Show note: At the time of recording this episode Splatterhouse had not been announced as a Western inclusion on the console.

In this first lecture Fred goes back to 1987 and the release of the PC Engine, one of the most "hybrid" consoles of all times.  Created by Hudson and NEC to be the versatility of a PC with a sole operation of gaming like a console. The PC engine utilized an 8-bit processor with 16-bit graphics, merging much of the stronger tech from the time without re-inventing the wheel for its developers.  It also gave way to the first CD-ROM add-on.  The talk wraps up with a discussion on the game library, what you can expect if beginning to collect, and of course the upcoming mini consoles. 00:02:49 - Game Talk Rijkelijk gevuld met retro deze week, maar eerst.. we kunnen er maar niet over ophouden: Animal Crossing domineert onze vrije tijd en in de afgelopen week hebben de Button Bashers elkaars dorpen bezocht via zowel de lokatie als internet mogelijkheden (3:30), daarbij speelde Steef Pandemonium en Castlevania Chronicles (6:44) op de Playstation 1 en verscheidene PC Engine / TurboGrafx 16 games samen met Martijn waaronder Devil's Crush (8:09; 13.14). Martijn en Niels speelden o.a. Missile Command en Space War (9:52) tegen elkaar op de Atari 2600 en verder speelde Martijn nog Ninja Gaiden (11:25), Side Arms (12:17) en Ninja Spirit (15:24) op de PC Engine. Dat Niels graag bordspellen speelt dat weten we inmiddels wel, hij probeerde de anderen hier ook van te overtuigen en bracht o.a. Gears of War: The Board Game (17:38) mee naar Michael thuis. De sceptici zijn sindsdien alleen nog maar sceptischer geworden.. Tot slot sluit Michael af met het weergaloze Rad van Fortuin (23:27) op de Commodore 64 en Tales of Xilia (25:32). 00:28:07 - Game muziek Welke rol speelt muziek bij het spelen van games? This week Fred flies solo to discuss the shoot-em-up (shmup) series Salamander, better known as Life Force in the United States.  He discusses the various games from the arcade titles to the NES/Famicom port, to even the MSX and PC-Engine (Turbografx-16) ports.  Additionally the connections to series Gradius are discussed and the various ways to play the games today.  He also announces April's game club title.
