Host Fabian Alefeld speaks with Japan-based additive manufacturing consultant Peter Rogers about the state of additive manufacturing across Asia Pacific. Rogers contrasts Japan's advanced but risk-averse manufacturing culture - strong in incremental optimization, with slower certification (notably medical) and limited defense budgets - with faster-moving but smaller markets like Australia/New Zealand, where mining drives demand for rapid, remote part supply. They discuss China's manufacturing scale and government support, its growing dominance in desktop FDM, and how low-cost Chinese metal PBF machines can win and retain service-bureau business despite Western strengths in quality and productivity. Singapore is highlighted for academia and MRO, while Korea spans shipbuilding, semicon, automotive, and defense. Southeast Asia is still production-focused with limited local R&D, whereas India is rising as an English-speaking engineering and R&D hub for global OEMs. Both see lowering costs and AI enabling broader, consumer-facing AM applications.00:00 Welcome and Guest Intro01:49 Peter Rogers Background03:32 Moving to Japan05:12 APAC Additive Overview09:23 China Manufacturing Dynamics13:27 Reshoring and Kaizen Mindset18:45 Traditional Skills vs Additive20:57 Japan Nearing Inflection Point25:06 Top APAC Applications29:02 Japan Korea Industry Mix30:31 China Scale And Funding33:18 FDM Race To Bottom34:27 Bambu Ecosystem Advantage36:53 Metal AM Price Expansion38:23 Chinese Metal Machines Case40:30 Competing On Productivity44:10 Southeast Asia Adoption47:06 India RnD Powerhouse49:46 Future Consumer Breakthroughs52:40 Japan Pushing DED Limits55:30 AI Lowers Barriers57:13 Wrap Up And Farewell

John MacDonald: ANZAC force - are we biting off more than we can chew?

While I don't like the idea of us being dragged into the AUKUS military alliance with Australia, the UK, and the US, I think what the government's doing creating something along the lines of an ANZAC defence force - I think it makes a truckload of sense. The plan is that by 2035 there'll be an integrated, combat capable Australia New Zealand defence force. Combat capable is the particularly interesting bit. I don't know about you, but I was a little bit surprised when I heard about this plan. Although it does seem that it's been on the cards for a while now, especially when you consider some of the new kit that the Government's buying for the New Zealand Defence Force and how it matches what Australia's got. As for AUKUS, Defence Minister Judith Collins was asked whether this will align us with it. And she said it won't. But the proof of course will be in the pudding. And it's probably easy in some ways for Judith to say that given that her political career is finishing up. Nevertheless, in principle, I think it's a no brainer. As Judith said this morning, we're a very small country in terms of population, but our defence force has got to spread itself very thinly over a very wide area. Here, throughout the Pacific and the Antarctic region. She says effectively joining forces with Australia is a much more clever way of making the most of our defence resources and making the most of Australia's defence resources. So no argument from me. But I'm not convinced about us being able to do this without being dragged into the AUKUS alliance in some way, shape, or form. And I'm picking that former Prime Minister Helen Clark will be thinking along the same lines. Because last year, when there was speculation or discussion that the Government might be thinking about signing New Zealand up as some sort of second tier member of AUKUS, she said we shouldn't be touching it with a barge pole. According to Helen Clark, if you're an ally, you can get dragged into all sorts of things that you shouldn't be dragged into or don't want to be dragged into. Although I think we're seeing that allies are learning to say no to each other a bit more often. Which is why Donald Trump's nose is out of joint. But if we go on what Judith Collins is saying, and I'm prepared to, the New Zealand Defence Force will still think for itself and will still be in charge of its own people. She says, "We'll make our own sovereign decisions. These are our people in our uniforms." And here's what I think is the most reassuring part. Judith Collins says "If the Australians were doing something we weren't happy with, we'll pull our people out," noting that Australia would be free to do the same. So the way I see it, this is nothing more than a common-sense approach for a tiny country which has let its defence force run on the smell of an oily rag for far too long. We're playing catch up now, sure, but we are dreaming if we think we can do it all on our own. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Modern Divorce Ecosystem: What Can Happen When Families Heal Instead of Fight?

Send Us a Message (include your contact info if you'd like a reply)Divorce isn't just about legal paperwork and court proceedings—it's a deeply human journey that transforms families forever. What's often missing from traditional divorce approaches is acknowledgment of the emotional landscape, communication challenges, and the complex human dynamics that determine whether a family heals or fractures during separation. The "modern divorce ecosystem" is evolving rapidly as families seek alternatives to adversarial proceedings that often leave lasting damage. Today's divorcing couples want more than just legal settlements; they're looking for guidance on effective communication, co-parenting strategies, and paths toward emotional healing. This shift reflects broader societal changes and recognition that while conflict in divorce is inevitable, destructive conflict is optional.Divorce coaches occupy a unique position in this evolving landscape. Unlike attorneys or therapists, coaches focus specifically on developing practical skills that help clients navigate both the emotional and logistical challenges of divorce. They serve as objective thinking partners who help clients manage overwhelming emotions, prepare for difficult conversations, and build the communication skills necessary for productive conflict resolution. These skills prove especially crucial for parents who must transform their relationship from intimate partners to effective co-parents—a transition that impacts not just minor children but adult children and extended family as well.Professional collaboration represents another significant trend, with family law attorneys, mediators, and mental health professionals increasingly recognizing the value divorce coaches bring to the process. Some law firms now employ in-house coaches, while many professionals are adding coaching skills to their own toolkit, finding that this approach not only better serves clients but also reduces the burnout rates common in family law practice.Ready to learn more about how divorce coaching can transform family transitions or enhance your professional practice? An Irish cardiac tech company has announced it is to create 20 jobs over the next three years, while targeting an additional €3m in revenue, as it expands overseas. The Louth based business will also be rebranding as Heart Rhythm International will initially target the UK, where they expect to add 30 additional hospitals and approximately 50,000 additional patients to their network before 2029. They will also be looking to bring their innovative cardiac care solution to Australia/ New Zealand and the US health markets in the coming years. Previously known as Heart Rhythm Ireland, the company operates a cloud-based cardiac rhythm management platform that supports patients as well as hospitals, clinicians and cardiac device manufacturers. Their system makes patient cardiac device information available in real time, delivering accurate, accessible and actionable data to patients and their medical teams. This improves patient outcomes by making device data more accessible, enabling timely clinical decisions and more coordinated care. HRI's system also provides patients with secure access to their information anytime and anywhere, making it easier to share critical data with healthcare providers in emergencies. The company is currently developing AI and predictive analytics capabilities, which are expected to further enhance the platform by supporting earlier insights and more personalised cardiac care in the future. Heart Rhythm International already supports over 65,000 patients across Ireland, with its platform in use at more than 50 cardiac hospitals nationwide. The company provides national coverage, working with leading institutions such as the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Bon Secours Health System, Beaumont Hospital, Mater Private Network, University Hospital Galway, Blackrock Health, and Cork University Hospital. HRI expects to grow its team to 30 personnel in the coming years. For more than 15 years, HRI has served as Ireland's national electronic health record for cardiac devices, maintaining a registry of over 100,000 implant procedures and nearly one million clinical follow-up records. Alongside its commercial expansion, HRI is actively contributing to international research and innovation projects. It is a partner in Project CARAMEL, a €12 million initiative funded under the EU Horizon Europe programme, helping to develop AI-powered predictive models for cardiovascular risk in women aged 40 to 60. HRI is also an industry partner in the new Health Frontiers Technology Innovation Centre (HF-TIC), led by Ulster University and supported by €9.1 million in PEACEPLUS funding. Both initiatives reinforce HRI's leadership in AI-driven digital health innovation on an international scale. "Every 20 seconds, someone receives a cardiac implant, but the systems supporting their care haven't kept pace," said Robert Kelly, CEO of HRI. "HRI was set up to change that, by operating at the centre of a unique eco-system, supporting patients, hospitals and clinicians and cardiac device manufacturers. Through our system, patients receive greater peace of mind and better health outcomes, while medical personnel can make better-informed and more efficient decisions. Ultimately that improves patient care and helps save lives. "We've already demonstrated how we can enhance cardiac care in Ireland by supporting over 65,000 patients and working with more than 50 hospitals nationwide. Telecom Reseller
eSIM are seeing financial companies knocking on the telecom door, GigSky Podcast

Telecom Reseller

“I think it's an opportunity for telecom expense managers to take that into the enterprise market with the lessons learned and bring that same kind of reliability that we bring to the aviation industry and the sort of user-friendliness that we've created for our consumer users,” says Sam King, chief revenue officer for GigSky. Sam thinks this a place where people watching IT and telecom spend, can shine but cutting costs, painlessly. Over the past five years as smartphone manufacturers have integrated embedded SIM cards (eSIM) into their phones, a growing number of fintech firms and credit card companies have begun to embrace the technology to create additional revenue streams and drive customer loyalty. As a result, financial firms are beginning to eat into the market share of traditional telecom companies as customers increasingly look for ways to avoid expensive roaming fees when they travel overseas. For example, Zolve, an Indian neobank, recently began offering eSIM plans tailored for Indian expats pursuing educational or professional opportunities in the United States. The new service means American telecoms are losing important market growth to foreign fintech firms. VISA has also gotten into the game. The credit card company recently partnered with GigSky to begin offering cardholders complementary and/or discounted eSIMs as part of its core travel benefits in Latin America and Canada, and will soon be rolling out a similar offer in the United States. “We're a mobile network operator like AT&T, Verizon, Bell TELUS, Vodafone, except that we're data only, and we specialize in providing mobile connectivity around the world we all operate a geo-redundant network, and we provide data in Europe, North America, South America Asia, Australia New Zealand you know pretty much everywhere, says Sam. The mobile technology company that provides eSIM data plans is about why credit card companies and fintech firms are offering eSIMs to their consumers. “We provide data, to oil and gas workers in the North Sea and in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as to passengers and crew on over 200 of the world's largest cruise ships around the world. You can deal directly with an enterprise end user. If I'm a cruise ship company or a bank or I have some sort of organization where we have people traveling or all sorts of different circumstances, I can talk to you, and you can work with us.

In this episode, "Australia New Zealand Association of Aquarium Professionals," the crew is joined by Lauren Pandolfo and Cameron Mackey, two board members of the Australia New Zealand Association of Aquarium Professionals (ANZAAP). Lauren is the Zebrafish Genetics Core Director at Baylor University and Cameron is the Aquarium Facility Manager at the University of Melbourne. Although they both serve on the ANZAAP board, these are voluntary positions! We learn how they got interested in fish, a bit about their career paths and about the benefit of this new organization which is helping to bring more knowledge on keeping our fishy friends in captivity. Come along! This podcast is brought to you by Parexocoetus brachypterus, commonly known as the flying ttfish. These fish are adept at leaping from the water to escape their predators. They can travel at speeds up to 70 km/h and can cover distances from 50 meters to as many at 400. The record flight by a flying fish was recorded at 45 seconds which is longer than my description of this fish will be. The French named one of their anti-ship missiles the exocet, after their latin name because of the way they skim the water surface at a low trajectory before striking their targets. But nautical warfare aside, the flying fish gets to accomplish what few fish ever can. And for that, we thank you. Cheers to you, flying fish! Thanks for listening to Gettin' Fishy With It! It's a city that has a very rich history with this band featuring countless of classic shows from the early 90's. Due to special Patreon request, this week we are covering the 2009 show. It's a different setlist than what we covered from Auckland last week, but we'll dig into more Backspacer deep cuts, crowd friendly moments and Ben Harper collaborations. Some of you may know Javier's frustration with 2009 from a sound perspective, how they were using tube amps that did not aid some of the intricacies that Stone and Mike add to specific songs when they play. We'll have a good long discussion on how all of that works from both the technical and non-technical POVs, and present examples of songs it benefits and others that it doesn't. We have some great moments in this set to get into including Indifference and Red Mosquito with Ben Harper, Throw Your Arms Around Me with Liam Finn and a version of Porch that unleashes the best of Stone Gossard.
