Sure, the Sabres have been done for about a month, but the Amerks season is over and now the real offseason discussion can begin in earnest. And hey, you know what, Lance and Joe run down how Jack Quinn, J-J Peterka, Peyton Krebs, and Casey Fitzgerald closed out the playoffs; they get a good laugh about how some thought Mattias Samuelsson was going to play anytime soon in the Calder Cup playoffs; UPL's hamstring status and how it may also how his much maligned development might hamstring NHL hopes; and what's the deal with Oskari Laaksonen and Arttu Ruotsalainen's future in red, white, blue, and gold?  They also go over what the Amerks run means for the players involved and what's ahead for Rochester and how their lineup might have to look next season.  Thanks as always to all of you listening -- thank you for the kind ratings and comments, too -- we'd sign you all to a one-way deal no matter what.Follow Lance and Joe on Twitter!Read Lance's work at The Buffalo NewsRead Joe's work at Noted HockeyBig thanks to our musician friends --Intro: MerlinBerlin -- "Orbit" - Find them on BandcampOutro: Chips 'N Cellos -- Boss Fight (Sabre Dance, Khachaturian) - Find them on Bandcamp

Who doesn't love NHL lottery season? Oh right, Sabres fans don't - at least they don't now! Things are on the upswing and while the Sabres didn't have lottery lady luck on their side this year, it does give Lance and Joe the opportunity to really start prematurely guessing who Buffalo might be interested in with their three first-round picks in the 2022 NHL Draft (and five in the top-100). Amateur Silly Season is a delight so let's get out and running, shall we?There's also questions of what exactly the Sabres should do with the plethora of picks. Keep them all and try to stock up the farm or maybe swing a deal or two to help right away. Don't worry, there are plenty of past decisions to make you feel anxious about any possibilities! So the Amerks are playing awfully well and that's got to be good for the future of the Sabres. Right? How can't it be!? J-J Peterka and Arttu Ruotsalainen are killing it and so is Peyton Krebs and there could be some really interesting implications for the future with all of them (and the others rocking it in Rochester). Thanks as always for listening and giving us very kind ratings -- you're all No. 1 in our lottery list.Follow Lance and Joe on Twitter!Read Lance's work at The Buffalo NewsRead Joe's work at Noted HockeyBig thanks to our musician friends --Intro: MerlinBerlin -- "Orbit" - Find them on BandcampOutro: Chips 'N Cellos -- Boss Fight (Sabre Dance, Khachaturian) - Find them on Bandcamp

Chad DeDomincis subs in for Joe Yerdon on this Friday episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, joining Patrick Moran to talk about former Buffalo Sabres captain Jack Eichel's return to Key Bank arena as a member of the opposition on Thursday night. One of the most talented and polarizing Sabres players in franchise history, this was a game many fans and surely Jack himself had circled on the calendar.  If you're a Sabres fan the game played out as good as one could ever hope----Eichel was held scoreless while both Peyton Krebs and Alex Tuch, two pieces Eichel was traded for both put pucks in the net in a 3-1 Sabres win that felt as electric inside the arena as it has in years. After the game Eichel was extremely petty in his comments. Chad has thoughts on that and plenty more stemming from this game and an organization that perhaps uses this big victory as a springboard going forward. The guys also discuss the Buffalo Bills as free agency draws near and much more. If you missed our previous episode, you missed out on when we called for Mattias Samuelsson and Jack Quinn to be called up to stay a while and that's just what the Sabres did! With... some unfortunate luck, of course. Here's the rundown for this week's episode for you hunt-and-peck listeners:0:00 - Let's relive Risto Day and remember his glorious (???) Sabres era. 8:00 - Peyton Krebs busted out big time against Philly and that's pretty meaningful even if it's just against the Flyers. 26:10 - The highs and lows of Jack Quinn showing out against Dallas and his injury. Why, yes, we did talk about how the Sabres play on haunted ground because how else do you wind up with 12 players on the injured list!? 37:45 - The return of Craig Anderson is nigh and this is a really good time for him to showcase his talents for trade deadline day. 45:00 - Speaking of the trade deadline, let's get the hot stove warmed up and discuss: if the Sabres are crazy if they think they're getting a first round pick for Colin Miller, not weaponizing their cap space, and would you rather get picks or prospects in future deals.55:50 - Mattias Samuelsson looks pretty, pretty good! See also: Jack Quinn and Ryan Johnson. Maybe rushing to judgment immediately on draft day isn't a great way to spend time. I know, we're ruining everyone's fun -- deal with it.1:10:55 - Can you think of a Sabres prospect who's taken a step back this year? Might be pretty difficult to do that. It's Casual Friday on Talking Buffalo Podcast, which means Patrick Moran is joined by Noted Hockey author and Maintenance Day podcast cohost Joe Yerdon to discuss a variety of topics, including the Buffalo Bills prospects going towards the NFL playoffs, Covid continuing to set the Buffalo Sabres roster back, a "Starting Five" draft of All-Time TV Game Shows and much more. The Bills close out their regular season in Orchard Park on Sunday, only needing to defeat the lowly New York Jets to clinch their second consecutive AFC East division and at least home playoff game. The guys talk about where they think the Bills are at for this time of the year and several of their potential playoff opponents and scenarios. Meanwhile the Sabres, like many teams in the NHL have been unable to avoid getting hit hard with Covid. Alex Tuch and Peyton Krebs are among the latest to get shelved and the guys talk frustration over not being able to get a good look at the Buffalo roster in full health as well as insight to the Sabres latest loss against San Jose, despite another incredible game from an emerging Rasmus Dahlin. They also hold their weekly Starting Five draft as Joe looks to improve to 21-9 overall, this time selecting the best TV game shows of all-time. That plus Patrick talks about adding some video elements to this podcast soon and much more. On this milestone 400th episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran is joined inside his home studio in West Seneca by friend and regular guest, sports media personality Joe Yerdon for a discussion focused around an exciting time for the Buffalo Sabres, Christmas, an overreacting New England Patriots fan and more. A fixture on the podcast especially over the past year, Joe chats about Patrick's world-famous shredded chicken, Christmas season and vinyl records before diving into some Sabres talk. With Covid yet again rearing it's ugly head the Sabres have called up three exciting prospects to make their Sabres debut on Wednesday night, including J.J. Peterka and Peyton Krebs. That plus the debut of Alex Tuch has given fans legitimate reason for optimism and excitement. Joe discusses what he thinks the role of the new players will be as well as how long he expects them up for. Also, a New England Patriots fan called into a Boston radio show after the Bills trounced them on Sunday and thinks the world of Josh Allen and not so much his own quarterback, Mac Jones. The guys have a good laugh at a frustrated Patriots fan expense—that and much more.
