On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by recurring guest Chris Ostrander (Two in the Box) to react to the Buffalo Bills being aggressive to find improvements to their roster over the past week in addition to the Buffalo Sabres remaining consistently disgraceful as their season mercifully is near an end. It's been a week of a lot of Bills news and reactions on this podcast and that continues today with Chris, who primarily covers hockey but's very plugged into the the Bills as well. He's got thoughts on Buffalo adding three new veteran bodies to the defensive line that come with a lot of experience and question marks, but also plenty of upside.Turning their attention the Sabres, it's been another absolute embarrassment as Buffalo is dead last in the Eastern Conference and 30th overall with just 18 games remaining to play. Patrick asks Chris for his reaction to claims that captain Rasmus Dahlin is fed up to the point that he told current general manager Kevyn Adams to fix things soon or he wants out. Dahlin publicly denied the claims but do the guys believe he's at that point? One thing's for certain----- Dahlin and Tage Thompson are two stars on this team who instead of being properly celebrated are just rotting their careers away with this organization.Speaking of, Chris has thoughts on if retaining Adams beyond this season is even sellable to fans. That plus what's going on with UPL's regression, Jack Quinn's future and tons more.Be sure to follow Chris on X at @2ITB_Buffalo and check out the Two in the Box blog in addition to the Instigator Podcast.Major props to Talking Buffalo sponsor, Sonny Red's at 1841 Abbott Road in Lackawanna, just minutes from Highmark Stadium. Sabres reporter Paul Hamilton on the Sabres slow start, frustration level in Buffalo, retooling the roster and Jack Quinn and Dylan Cozens off to slow starts.
The Sabres are getting scary play from their second line and it isn't scary good either. We talk about the struggles of Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn and Buffalo's limited options to solve the issue. We also talk about the performance of Buffalo's goaltenders and how a bit more consistency from the pair could pay dividends through a friendly upcoming schedule. The show kicks off with a conversation about the recent Sportico team valuations and the Sabres 26% increase to a reported $1.13 billion.
They call themselves a drinking club with a cycling problem, and while they may enjoy gathering for beers post ride, the Manitou Spokes is a club full of heart and a passion for their Manitou Springs community and fellow cyclists. The club began in 2009 and meets Tuesdays at 5pm from the start of daylight savings in May to the end in October, the Manitou Spokes offers 3 ride options each week: a Flat & Friendly Road Ride, a Hot & Hilly Road Ride and a Mountain Bike Ride, the Trail Trekkers. Following the rides, they rejoin to drink and dine together and support a different local brewery or bar. While you might find photos on Facebook, this group is only social in person, there is no website. The main way to connect with the Manitou Spokes is by showing up and getting on their email list. They meet from the back of the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month and an alternate location (disclosed in the club email) on 1st and 5th Tuesdays. It was a lively multi-generational gathering of guests for our interview and very representative of the variety of ages and abilities in the club. We enjoyed sipping some great Colorado local beer during the show as is fitting with the club, although one rider pointed out you don't have to drink to fit in. The Sabres sluggish start has overshadowed some positive play from the roster. It's also been driven by a few notable, questionable performances from players who many were counting on driving the bus for the Sabres this season. We talk about Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn underperforming and how a resurgence from that pair could push the Sabres into contention in the East. We also discuss how Buffalo's third line has helped carry the mail for the struggling second line. Along the way we touch on Frozen Frenzy and the news that a pair of USHL teams approached the OHL about formally joining the league.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by longtime Buffalo News reporter and columnist Mike Harrington for an extensive Buffalo Sabres training camp preview. Training camp always seems to come quietly because the Buffalo Bills are a few games into their season, but camp for the Sabres this time around is the start of what will be a critical season as the hockey club tries to end it's NHL all-time record playoff drought at 13 years. Mike has plenty of thoughts on if general manager Kevyn Adams' job hangs in the balance of making the postseason, painting a potential picture where the Sabres could miss and he still kept his job. As for camp, there doesn't appear to be a lot of roster spots that aren't already locked in but that doesn't mean it will lack for storylines. Mike has takes on if he thinks Jason Zucker or Zach Benson will get first crack to skate with Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn, is Jiri Kulich a legitimate candidate to crack the roster, how the bottom six is taking shape including newly re-signed Peyton Krebs, which makes Mike wonder if Krebs could become part of a trade. They also spend time talking about the goaltenders, if last season was the real version of UPL and how the No. 2 spot may play out between Devon Levi and James Reimer. That plus what Mike anticipates being different at camp now that Lindy Ruff is running things instead of Don Granato, what Buffalo needs to do to make the arena feel alive for home games again, the chances he thinks Buffalo makes the playoffs and tons more. Follow Mike Harrington on Twitter @ByMHarrington and of course support local journalism, which needs your support now more than ever by subscribing to The Buffalo News. ♦♦♦♦♦ Follow Patrick Moran/Talking Buffalo Podcast Substack: Patrick Moran's Substack Twitter: @PatrickMoranTB Facebook: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube: Talking Buffalo Podcast YouTube Channel Learn more about your ad choices. Andrew, Tom, and Carl this time discuss the third week of Donald Trump's hush money trial and the Biden Administration's announcement of new asylum rules that will make it easier to reject applicants with criminal records. They also talk about President Biden's recent statements on US policy toward Israel and the Democratic Party's fear that this summer's Democratic Convention may be disrupted by protesters. Then, Tom Bevan talks with White House correspondent Phil Wegmann about the Trump campaign's internal polling numbers and the effect of the New York trial on public opinion of the former president. And finally Andrew Walworth talks to Carl Cannon about three political figures who passed away this week: Greg Schneiders, director of communications for President Jimmy Carter, Jack Quinn, legal counsel to President Bill Clinton, and Pete McCloskey, former Republican congressman from California.
This stings. The Flyers needed to win against the Buffalo Sabres to keep their season alive and John Tortorella went with Ivan Fedotov for his first NHL start to get the job done. The Flyers played hard and generated some chances early, and Noah Cates finally got them on the board to tie the game 1-1 in the second period. But rookie Jack Quinn's two goals late in the game sealed the victory for the Sabres, 4-2. JP, Charlie, and Kelly break down the action and what this means now for the playoff race.
