Rob Pelinka went on a spending spree on Wednesday, and in a span covering roughly half an hour, signed up free agents Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, and Sandro Mamukelashvili. On top of it all, the Lakers traded for Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz for unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033 and first-round swaps in 2028 and 2030. Quentin Grimes has agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract, and Sexton a two-year, $19 million deal. So the question now gets asked: Where does this leave the Lakers in the Western Conference? Tune in as the guys from the LFB give their early returns on the activity and what this might say about the future of Rob Pelinka. YouTube Trev is locking arms with former NHL netminder Joaquin Gage for a full hour of unadulterated, raw hockey talk to sift through the volcanic ash of yesterday's open market madness. On Today's Show: Canada Day Post-Mortem: Before the boys open up the hockey notebooks, they look back at a beautiful July 1st holiday. Trev and Gager recap how they spent their Canada Days around town, and swap a few quick stories from the backyard barbecues. The Stan Bowman Roster Overhaul: The Oilers didn't just participate in Free Agent Frenzy—they completely controlled the news cycle. The fellas dedicate a massive chunk of today's broadcast to analyzing an unbelievable string of transactions. We break down the historic departure of Darnell Nurse to San Jose, the blue line additions of Shakir Mukhamadullin, Zack Sharp, and Ryan Shea, and internal extensions for Kasperi Kapanen and Max Jones. The New Look Crease: As a former netminder, Gager gets right into the tape of Edmonton's brand-new goaltending structure. Stan Bowman executed a complete paradigm shift by trading for Devon Levi from Buffalo and signing freshly minted Stanley Cup champion Frederik Andersen to a one-year deal. The boys evaluate how this new look impacts the returning Tristan Jarry and what the vision is for the net going forward. Grading the Blueprint: It's report card time. Trev and Gager stack up all the additions, calculate the massive cap space saved by moving Nurse's contract without retaining a single dollar, and issue their definitive, official grades for Stan Bowman's first major free-agency floor plan. League-Wide Fallout: Once local business is settled, the guys pull out the macro-lens to trace the heavy cash spent across the rest of the league. From Toronto landing Sergei Bobrovsky to John Carlson heading to Tampa Bay and ex-Oilers like Stuart Skinner hitting the market! 2 Guys & a Goalie is presented by GS Construction!
This week, the boys talk about the opening day of NHL Free Agency and the moves made there. They also look into the SPHL's new rules for the upcoming season. Lyle Richardson of Spector's Hockey is a busy man, but joins to talk about the moves, the trades, and what did and didn't go down at the draft.

TSN Hockey Insider Craig Button kicked off today's program, and he was in absolute peak form! Craig joins the desk to give us the blunt, unfiltered truth on the Edmonton Oilers' approach heading into tomorrow's Free Agent Frenzy. Button lays out a fascinating debate: should Stan Bowman aggressively hunt outside upgrades, or is it time to trust the internal players already developing in the system? Plus, Craig weighs in heavily on the blue line logistics, unpacking whether the Oilers can realistically move Darnell Nurse or if keeping the veteran defenseman is simply the smartest play left on the board. Finally, Craig closes out his segment by naming the one franchise he expects to completely weaponize their cap space and be the most active team in the NHL tomorrow morning. It was then time for the Play Alberta Early Bird Bet of the day. After the break, it was time for some Weekly Confessions for Spectrum Rent All. Some solid confessions from the boys today. We capped off hour two with some Off-Season, What Off-Season presented by GCL Diesel to discuss the Oilers goaltending situation.
Join Bryan Hayes, Jeff O'Neill and Jamie McLennan for Hour 2 on OverDrive! FIFA World Cup Ambassador and Canadian Soccer Player Dwayne De Rosario joins to discuss Canada's win in the Round of 32, the journey for the squad and the meaning for the country. Guest host Tim Powers speaks with TSN's Claire Hanna about Sunday's historic 1-0 victory over South Africa, and what awaits the Men's National Team in the Round of 16. On today's show: Eric Ham, CTV U.S. political analyst and former U.S. Congressional Staffer, on this week's looming CUSMA deadline. Tech Check with tech analyst Carmi Levy: Apple and Microsoft hike prices as A.I. crunches the global memory chip supply. The Daily Debrief Panel - featuring Tom Mulcair and Scott Reid. David Phillips, a climatologist with Environment Canada, on the extreme heat that is expected to strike parts of Canada this week. TSN 1200's Gord Wilson delivers a quick debrief of the 2026 NHL Draft, and offers a look-ahead to Wednesday's Free Agent Frenzy.
The temperature in Oil Country has officially reached a boiling point. As the dust settles on a disappointing season, the focus has shifted from the players on the ice to the architect in the front office. Dusty and Tommy pull no punches in a raw, honest look at the state of the franchise. The Bowman Audit: It's becoming painfully apparent that Stan Bowman has altered the trajectory of this team faster than anyone anticipated—and not for the better. We dissect his tenure so far, from the roster construction to the "patient" approach that seems at odds with the team's closing championship window. Moving On Is An Option: We ask the question everyone is thinking: Should Bowman be fired? We debate whether the Oilers can afford to let him make the crucial calls this offseason or if a change at the top is the only way to save the McDavid/Draisaitl era. A Franchise in Trouble: With the stars expressing "concern" and management preaching "minor tweaks," we look at the serious trouble brewing for the Oilers' future. What needs to change immediately to get this train back on the tracks? The Toronto Lottery Shocker: We shift gears to the massive news that broke the hockey world yesterday—the Toronto Maple Leafs winning the #1 overall pick. We react to the "divine intervention" that landed Gavin McKenna in Toronto and how that affects the power balance of the entire league. Looking Ahead: From the coaching staff's future to the looming Free Agent Frenzy, we map out the high-stakes summer ahead. The Oil Stream is presented by Boston Pizza!
