The Millenium / Y2K has come & gone.. The legendary Slipknot show happened January 11th, 2000. (episode 29 is all about that show). January 14th, 2000 The Misfits, Speed Dealer, & Element were scheduled to play at the Tower but due to the situation that arose at the Slipknot show, this one was moved to the Diamond Ballroom as well as the following Bo Diddley show. Next, the Insane Clown Posse comes back to OKC for a show scheduled at the Myriad side hall, all while a wedding, an FCA Conference, & an OKC Blazzers Hockey game were all happening at the same time. The second time was not the charm. An hour before the doors opening, ICP decides to cancel & their fans were none to pleased with this decision & proceeded to lose their minds. What happens when a 15 year old juggalo decides to attack an Oklahoma City Police Officer? Listen & find out... Motorhead, Nashville Pussy, & the Supersuckers come to the Diamond, playing a legendary show for less than 400 people. We talk about a Disturbed show at the Diamond Ballroom w/ Apartment 26 where less than 300 people were in attendance. The 1980's music scene is known for its debauchery, however, we discuss a band from Texas that was signed to Tommy Boy Records called Pimpadelic. Who is quite possibly the hardest partying band we've ever seen! The Rock & Roll Adventures of Max Baker Jr. Continues as we wrap up the year 2000 in this Episode! This week Scott is joined by former Primer 55 members Bobby Burns and Joshua Toomey. In this detailed discussion, the guys look back on the history of the band. Primer 55 dealt with severe highs and lows. From the highs of Bobby and Jason "J-Sin" Luttrell forming the band in Memphis, obtaining a record deal, and touring on Ozzfest to the lows of addiction, drama, band member exits, and the death of Luttrell in 2018.In this discussion, Burns and Toomey reflect on many of these moments as well as behind the scenes stories of the band and its inner-workikngs. It's an interesting fly-on-the-wall experience to listen to the stories between these two. Additionally, Bobby and Joshua shed light on their thoughts of a possible reunion in 2020 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the debut lp, 'Introduction to Mayhem.' You can hear Joshua Toomey weekly on his podcast Talk Toomey. Full information and links can be found at http://www.talktoomeypod.com/ Primer 55 was formed in 1997 after years of suffering through the stale music scene in Memphis, TN, dominated by death metal and cover bands. Rather than sit back and complain, the group decided to do something about it. Guitarist Bobby Burns, led by his heavy metal past, co-founded the band with vocalist J-Sin, who added a more hip-hop flavor to the mix. The two enlisted the help of friends Mike "Jr." Christopher on bass and Josh McLane on drums. They soon gained an underground following from their intense live performances and in 1999 released their self-titled debut album on the independent label Propellant Transmissions. Shortly after this release, the group was offered a contract with Island Def Jam. After they graciously accepted the offer, the group continued with their hybrid heavy metal/hip-hop style on their 2000 release Introduction to Mayhem. The album is a trip into the depths of extreme passion and music authority. With the help of Incubus DJ Chris Kilmore, (hed) p.e. frontman MCUD, and Relative Ash vocalist Mark Harrington, the album solidified Primer 55 as a musical force to be reckoned with. Following the release, the band toured almost nonstop and found themselves amongst the elite of hard rock. In 2001, the band replaced drummer Josh McLane, who left for personal reasons, with John Kamoosi to continue work on new material. On August 14, 2001, Primer 55 released their second studio album, (the) New Release. It went to number 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and No. 102 on the Billboard 200. The album's single, "This Life" peaked at No. 37 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. After the album's initial success, it was suddenly shelved by Island Records. Burns told PureGrainAudio, "The album was out 2 months then 9/11 happened and we got lost in that shuffle that was going on in NY at that time."Despite having their album shelved, the band embarked on "The $12 Riot Tour" on October 31 with Dope, Skinlab and Society 1. The next year, Primer 55 performed as the opening act at the 2002

Are you ready to get loose? Joshua Toomey from the Talk Toomey Podcast drops in this week to discuss his old band Primer 55. Although there were only two albums released there is still PLENTY to talk about as Toomey gives some insight on the inner workings of the band, as well as what could have been. How badly did September 11th affect the band? Is ‘This Life’ still one of the best singles ever released? Are Primer 55 Nu-Metal to a fault, or just Nu-Metal AF? We are joined by former bassist of nu metal outfit Primer 55, Joshua Toomey, as we discuss his time in the band, his love for the nu metal era, and his great podcast Talk Toomey, where he has interviewed some of the best musicians in the rock and metal world. Songs played come from Nothingface, Limp Bizkit, Frontstreet and Machine Head.
This week we have a super fun episode about a song you probably don't remember by a band you definitely don’t remember: Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX’s “Loose” by Primer 55. We analyze the “new style” found in probably the most generic rap metal song in existence, aided and abetted by Incubus’s DJ and hed PE’s Jarod Gomes. What does “get loose” mean in this context? Why doesn't this vocalist sound the least bit loose? Also: literal nu metal cringe, decoding the sexual messaging behind particular hairstyles in the nu metal community, contracting conjunctivitis in a push pit, an odd amount of singer J-Sin’s personal acquaintances in the comment section. Music We Like: Lil Uzi Vert’s “Luv Is Rage 2” and Old Baby’s “Love Hangover”
Don't get your wig split and take a listen as Jenny, Lorin and Matt explore the world of Primer 55 on this week's episode of The Roach Koach Podcast. Topics discussed: Is it possible to be nu-metal to a fault?; "Is this song about dry humping?"; Matt Naas returns to sing, The Godsmack Lesson of Sequencing, should aliens hear this album?; as well as Who's Tweeting, the comfort of JNCOs, Matt Naas taking a trip down a nu-metal rabbit hole and of course the answer to the question, does Primer 55 deserve a place in the Nu-Metal Canon? Say hello to Roach Koach on Facebook and on Twitter @RoachKoach. Give us a review on iTunes and share with friends and family this Thanksgiving! Thanks!
