Live from the Chris Jericho Rock & Wrestling Rager At Sea Five Alive, it's American Idol (and TIJ) alum James Durbin, Fooz Fighters frontman Nick Rich, Guardians of the Jukebox & Fozzy founding guitarist Rich Ward, and Femme Halen guitarist Roseann Aldrete! The topic? Tribute bands! Hear why these stellar musicians LOVE their cover bands, and the lengths they go to convey the vibe, spirit, look and sound of their respective bands! James Durbin shares stories from the ultimate cover band experience, American Idol, what it was like fronting Quiet Riot, the advice he got from Judas Priest's Rob Halford, and why yacht rock is his favorite genre of music to cover. Rich Ward shares the secret to Guardians of the Jukebox's success, and explains how they put their 80s set list together. Femme Halen's Roseann Aldrete talks about all the studying and practice she does to get that Eddie Van Halen sound and tone down, her favorite EVH solos to play, and the most difficult songs for her in the Van Halen catalogue. And Nick Rich of the Fooz Fighters reveals why he gave up his Mick Jagger gig to take on the Dave Grohl role fulltime, how he manages to maintain that Grohl energy onstage, and why he felt it was important to grow out his hair and get the same arm tattoos as Dave. Back in the early 90's (along with hometown thrash titans Ghost Story, Akathesia, and Nihilist) one of the most unique bands to have dominated the local metal scene and trailblazed the path for rap metal before it was even a genre was Atlanta cross-over, groove metal pioneers, STUCK MOJO.    Armed with the aural onslaught of Rich Ward's behemoth guitar sound and the “no bones about it” ferocity of Bonz's rhymes, STUCK MOJO were definitely THE band to experience live, with one of their most memorable shows transpiring when “The Duke of Metal” and company performed inside a record store at Gwinnett Place Mall during peak business hours, resulting in a joyful noise for the fans who gathered and a case of “instant regret” for mall management who didn't realize what they'd committed to until it was too late (“Stranger Things” indeed…).   Get ready to comprehend why hyperinflation and over-monetization have transformed “toothless & stinkless” into premium upgrade options, always be accommodating enough to say “They” if you're unsure of how to address someone and don't know if “They” are actually “a dude or a chick…or a group of people”. Find out why some of us are “almost too overqualified to be a bass player”, always remember that “waterboarding takes a lot out of you”, prepare a plate of “guitar pasta”, enjoy our “diet tribes”, and JOIN US (until the very end for “a taste of Doomsicle”) as we go INSIDE THE METAL, Atlanta style, with the unparalleled STUCK MOJO.    Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Support Metal Nerdery - https://www.patreon.com/metalnerderypodcast   Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your Podcasts. For just over 20 years American hard rock/metal outfit Fozzy have been riding a gradual wave of success. After starting life as a cover band in 1999, Fozzy released two albums mainly comprising other band's material before deciding to release an album showcasing their own orginals with All That Remains in 2005.That album spawned the singles It's A Lie, Enemy, Born Of Anger and The Test, in the process establishing Fozzy as a band to look out for in their own right.Chasing The Grail followed but it was with 2019's Sin and Bones that the Fozzy train started gathering steam.Do You Wanna Start A War (2014) preceded 2017's Judas which saw Fozzy break free from their shackles and hit the stratosphere of metal. This was helped in no small part by the titular single, which became frontman Chris Jericho's entrance theme song for his highly successful wrestling career and introduced Fozzy and their music to legions of fans that have remained strong ever since. Now, following the sustained success of this years album Boombox, Fozzy are set to hit Australian shores for a series of shows with good buddies Buckcherry, starting in Brisbane on Wednesday, November 30.HEAVY caught up with Fozzy's guitarist and founding member Rich Ward for the lowdown."I'm so excited to be coming over to Australia for a big tour," he beamed. "I'll be looking forward to seeing all of you guys at the gigs and playing some crushing riffs and having some fun. It's been since 2018, so it's exciting to get back on that plane again and come and visit my friends."We press Ward on what to expect from the shows."Big set and travelling with our friends in Buckcherry, which is fantastic," he smiled. "We've toured with them previously and built a great kinship and brotherhood with those guys, so riding down the road with them is gonna be a lot of fun. It's gonna be a double treat for the audience because I think both bands feel like they belong on the same bill, but we are very different in other ways as well. Buckcherry is much more rooted in classic rock n roll, where we're kind of rooted in classic heavy metal. Still living under the same big tent, but it's gonna be fun. The same ice cream, just a little different flavours. It's gonna be a fun gig. It's always fun when you get to see friends of yours again on the road and I've got so many friends from Australia that I look forward to seeing every time we're over. I love the culture. I love the climate. It's exciting. I'm an American, so every time I get to travel and tour I feel like a bit of a tourist too. I try to find a great coffee shop and a nice meal and soak up some of the local flavours."In the full interview, Rich talks more about what to expect from the shows, what's different about Fozzy and their stage show since their last visit in 2018, their relationship with Buckcherry, the early days of Fozzy and how they grew from a covers band to playing their own material, having a well known wrestler in the band, the reception to Boombox, the gradual ascension of Fozzy as a band, his status as a guitar player and more.

We talk about our love of Camp Jager, why we love going to ROK so much regardless of how much we like the lineup, the great Darkside Stage, our overall thoughts, the pre party days with sets from TROY (who we also play a song from), Reliance Code and Screaming Red Mutiny kicking off the Axis Stage in pure rock fashion, 3D in Your Face making their triumphant return to ROK, Fist of Rage doing what they always do (hint: it's rock), Nincos providing an absolute highlight, Switchbach with their brand of powerful rock (we also play a song from them), and Locust Grove bringing the high energy rock to the masses. The rest of the festival brought great performances from As Shadows Collapse, Claim Your Enemy (and a wonderful honor bestowed upon us), Slaughter taking us back to our youth and Zoltan Chaney's mesmerizing performance, Fozzy and Rich Ward providing great hard rock, Deathgrip destroying the Retrospect Stage, Def Leppard bringing mass amounts of fun, Fuel bringing a great set, Zakk Sabbath summoning the gods of rain, Black Stone Cherry showing why they are beyond underrated and showing up most of their peers, Ratt bringing riffs and hits, Buckcherry.... well, they were there, Jackyl being an absolute show stealing highlight as usual, the beef from seether, The Offspring closing out the main stage with the hits, a fitting and touching Chris Cornell tribute, and Niterain bringing your spirits back up. A surprising food figure perhaps, he is a best-selling author, writer of "The IPCRESS File", creator of Harry Palmer (played by Michael Caine). He is also an illustrator, and pioneering food writer. He rarely gives interviews. He is Len Deighton. Leonard Cyril Deighton - now 86 - has had a fascinating life - and as he explains, food has always been at its heart. His vivid and extraordinary story takes in post-war London with double agents and off-ration cooking, to a newly opened-up world of international air travel, and into the swinging sixties. Len Deighton created the totally unique "cookstrips", fusing his skills at illustrating and writing with his cooking knowledge. For a young Tim Hayward, once he had seen these things would never be the same again. Photograph by David Rose. Presented by Tim Hayward Produced by Rich Ward and Dan Saladino.

Things have changed. That these foods are now common-place and mainstream is in large part due to Claudia Roden's work.Going on to write 'The Book of Jewish Food', 'The Food of Spain', 'Arabesque', 'Mediterranean Cookery' and others, and with a new edition of 'The Food of Italy' out next month twenty-five years after its first appearance, Sheila Dillon meets Claudia Roden. Sheila discovers a colourful and turbulent life in which food has meant so much, a life which has shaped a unique and powerful voice in food writing.Claudia was born in 1936 into a family of Sephardic Jewish merchants, into a cosmopolitan Cairo that has, in the wake of the Suez Crisis, long since disappeared. This is the story of a family in exile and the power of food to sustain individuals and entire cultures. With the help of Simon Schama, who is a long time admirer since coming across that first book as a young history teacher, Sheila Dillon charts a remarkable life in food.Presented by Sheila Dillon Produced by Rich Ward.
