Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage is our guest this week and we're here to make sure everyone out there picks up their upcoming album This Consequence, coming out February 21. The conversation starts with the journey from Atonement to the latest album, re-releasing the debut record with new ears and years behind it, growing up in the New England metal and hardcore scene, and how the bands brought vulnerability and positivity to an entire genre that lacked much of both. We also talk about the importance of truth to our lives and how the definition adapts and changes as we grow older, how the coldness of technology can limit a revolution of the heart and being human, and the hardcore and punk bands that influenced him in so many ways, and if Killswitch would ever tackle an unplugged type of performance. Petar and Brandon discuss the smells that come to mind when thinking about nu metal, how James “Munky” Shaffer is changing the narrative of that smell by releasing his new fragrance, the return of Spineshank and Snot, and Shavo Odadjian's statement on System of a Down "testing the waters" with their 2025 tour plans. Freddy vs. Jason (2003) Synopsis: Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, two iconic killers from horror franchises, come face-to-face in a battle, with teens caught in the crossfire. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Ill Nino, Slipknot, Sepultura, and Spineshank. Their curiosity leads them into the lair of the Firefly family, where terror and madness unfold. Soundtrack: The soundtrack, curated by director Rob Zombie, includes songs by Zombie himself along with Buck Owens and The Ramones, adding a gritty, Southern rock vibe. Background: Rob Zombie's directorial debut is heavily influenced by grindhouse films and 1970s horror. The music complements its chaotic and disturbing tone, with Zombie's own tracks amplifying the twisted atmosphere. 9. Resident Evil (2002) Synopsis: Alice, an amnesiac security operative, teams up with a group of commandos to investigate a deadly virus outbreak in a high-tech facility known as The Hive. Their mission pits them against reanimated corpses and mutated creatures. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Coal Chamber, creating an industrial, high-energy backdrop for the action-horror elements. Background: Known for its intense action sequences and blend of horror with sci-fi, the soundtrack's industrial metal sound contributes to the futuristic, menacing feel of the film. 10. Mike Sarkisyan of Spineshank joins Toomey and Ro to discuss all aspects of The Height of Callousness. Mike talks about the album cover artwork, the actors and models in the photos and Fear Factory comparisons. Ro discusses a video treatment that he had and Mike shares his own video treatments. Was this album "cyber kids mainlining Jack Daniels"? Mike talks the writing process, the story of stolen gear that forced them off the road to start the album process and Atari Teenage Riot influences. He discusses what he was listening to at the time, why they went with GGGarth Richardson and playing tons of Goldeneye. Funny tour stories from OzzFest, wrestling Wedge and people thinking Santos' name was Spineshank. The guys go track for track on the album and Mike tells stories for every song. They finish the episode talking about Mike's Dore Vodka.
Interview by Kris PetersUS rock outfit Soil are credited by many as being the pioneers of a genre that has birthed bands of the calibre of Godsmack, Spineshank and Mudvayne.Regardless whether you subscribe to that theory or not, one thing that is undeniable is the impact Soil have had on the music landscape since bursting onto the scene in 1997. The seeds for rock revolution were sewn, but it wasn't until Soil's major label debut album Scars in 2001 that the world stood to full attention. One song in particular from that album - Halo - is still on high rotation around the world to this day and is instantly recognisable as Soil and their trademark style. The album was that well universally received that Soil are returning to Australia in May for a run of shows with Static X where they will be performing that groundbreaking album in full - but with a unique twist.HEAVY caught up with bass player Tim King to find out more."We've toured many, many times over the years with Static X," he mentioned, "and they are great people and a great band so we're really looking forward to this one."With both bands in the upper echelon of their respective genres, HEAVY poses the question of whether Soil still had to actively seek the support slot."The first time we ever toured with Static X Wayne Static personally invited us," he smiled. "It was in 2002 and our album Scars was out and Wayne really liked that album a lot. The tour was with Static X, Soulfly and Soil and he personally requested that we be on that tour and we became really good friends with him and Tony and the rest of the band. From there on out we've toured with Static X many, many times. That one was never a management or agency thing. It was two bands that had mutual respect and were fans of each others music taking each other out on the road, and when Static X got back with this new incarnation we actually went to the UK and Europe with them in 2019 and that was awesome. Now we're going back to Australia with them so it's great to be able to continue to have all of our bands still out there doing it and going on tour with friends. It makes it more of a what we call "heavy metal Summer camp (laughs)."In the full interview, Tim talks more about what to expect from the shows, the new look Static X and how they sound without Wayne out the front, playing Scars in full and how difficult something like that is, his view on why Scars was and is such a popular album, the term "timeless" used in respect to Soil's music, their last covers album Play It Forward and how it gave the band a new lease on life, his side project Embryonic Autopsy, new music from Soil and more.

Hell Bent For Metal recall a time when Guitar Hero was a global phenomenon, and it made a London power metal band one of the best known bands in the world – and that the song that did it, DragonForce's turbocharged 'Through The Fire And Flames', had a video that looks a tad more gay than the band may have intended. The Camp Classic this week is suitably NYE-friendly, as Whitesnake's 'Here I Go Again' (the 1987 version – the metal one) spawns digressions about queer dating and the brilliantness of camp. But with so many lyrics relevant to queer life, how could it not?Plus the visit to the Hate Crew Gaybar sees the jukebox receive albums to ring in 2022 in party mode, with Spineshank's Self-Destructive Pattern and Unleash The Archers' Abyss picked.

The recipe of writing a successful album for Richard Patrick seems to be: Get naked on a plane and write about it. Have a secret romance with the bass player of one of the biggest bands of the time. Take mushrooms and record a middle 8. Preach the benefits of universal healthcare. Pretty simple really. I can't believe they didn't teach that to me in my Music Industry Skills course. Click play and listen as the Bacio Death Trip duo discuss big dumb riffs, Rock Band 3, guiding Trent Reznor to a sound and what Jonny from Spineshank thought of our episode on their album. That's all for this week, Bacio Death Trip Now with added website.
This podcast is for true fans of the Resident Evil movie soundtrack and it's a real chicken and egg one here. Could Spineshank have been huge if they had signed with a label who knew what to do with them or did Roadrunner Records get them to heights that no one else could have because the band weren't mature enough to be a working band? It's probably Roadrunner on this one but you'll have to listen to find out more. Is Hexes by Bassnectar featuring Chino the next Charlie bit my finger? It is now. Is this a Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events heavy episode? Sure is. Did you ever play Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder? Probably not. Next week we're talking about the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. Fangs.
Two weeks until the camp grounds open at Blue Ridge Rock Fest! I know you are excited, because I sure as hell am. So I hope you are ready! Today I bring you a band out of New Jersey playing day 3 of the festival. Ladies and Gentleman, Aurin! “Aurin is back with their new album “Serotonin” (released on 9/13/19 through TLG / INgrooves). “Serotonin” was produced by Grammy award nominated Mike Ferretti (Sevendust, Thank you Scientist, Saliva). The album debuted at #1 on Amazon Hard Rock Best Sellers, #10 in overall Rock, and has since had over 220,000 streams on Spotify. The first two singles “Pause Rewind Repeat” and “Brother” have been featured in publications such as AP magazine, and Loudwire. After their critically acclaimed 2014 release of record label debut album “Catharsis” on Pavement Entertainment / RED, the band hit the road, and has since shared the stage with several national acts such as : Art of Dying, Otep, Nonpoint, Icon For Hire, Gemini Syndrome, Ill Nino, Adrenaline Mob, Fit for Rivals, Smile Empty Soul, Members of Breaking Benjamin, 40 Below Summer, Tantric, Spineshank, & more! Their latest single “Brother”, is about dealing with the emotions that come along when a loved one ends their own life. The raw, emotional track was written by guitarist Andrew Wayne, whose brother took his own life in 2012. Aurin detail a powerful, first-person account of suicide in this song and music video. “It took me over five years to muster up the courage to actually write about it” says Wayne. “The video is a dedication to him and the city that he loved (New York City), where he lived and died. He was a prodigal artist with an uncanny ability to portray beauty. We decided to feature his artwork, not just for the “Serotonin” album cover, but throughout the rest of the album as well. This song is dedicated to him. It is dedicated not only to his memory, but to all the people that have been lost to such tragedy. ” The first single from Serotonin “Pause Rewind Repeat” has a strong message behind it regarding the times we are living in. “Political divides are tearing nations and their people apart. So many of us are too busy placing the blame or turning a blind eye, that we have forgotten the importance of being humanitarian. The song is intended to show that we need to be stronger in order to push through all of the pain and suffering in this world. We need to lift each other up in order to break through the barriers that have been placed between us.” – Sarah Anderson Wayne https://www.aurinband.com/ https://www.facebook.com/aurinband https://www.instagram.com/aurinband/ This episode is proudly brought to you by: Betterhelp : https://www.betterhelp.com/sipod for 10% off Mack Weldon: https://www.mackweldon.com/suckit Promo Code "SUCKIT" for 20% off!

Have you ever listened to a band you grew up with and wondered “why isn’t this band more popular?” That is the question that plagued Dan and Joe throughout Spineshank’s discography. They had all the elements of a hit band, but for some reason were overshadowed by their peers. If you are looking for a good nu-metal experience, you really can’t go wrong with Spineshank…..mostly. #discussmetal #Spineshank #numetalmay Join our Patreon: Discography Discussion on Patreon - http://bit.ly/discussmetalpatreonDiscography Discussion Podcast Homepage - http://bit.ly/DiscographyDiscussionSubscribe to RSS - http://feeds.feedburner.com/danandjoeshow Listen to Discography Discussion on Spotify - http://bit.ly/discussmetalspotifyDiscography Discussion on Apple Podcasts/iTunes - http://bit.ly/discussmetalitunesDiscography Discussion on Google Play - http://bit.ly/discussmetalgoogleplayListen on Stitcher - http://bit.ly/discussmetalstitcherWatch/Listen on Youtube - http://bit.ly/discussmetalyoutubeListen on TuneIn - http://bit.ly/discussmetaltunein Join the conversation on Discord - http://bit.ly/discussmetalDiscordFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/DiscographydiscussionTwitter - https://twitter.com/discussmetalTumblr - https://danandjoeshow.tumblr.com Questions?
