We really, really liked Coal Chamber's self-titled debut. We really, really do not like this. One of nu-metal's most famous cases of a sophomore slump, the band runs away from the silliness and giant riffs that made them popular on their first record in favor of something more serious, more professional, and less nu-metal. It turns out they are not very good at that. Bryan takes us back to hearing this album for the first time in 1999 and hating it instantly, giving us insight into being a Coal Chamber fan in the moment and not just now, in 2025. Unfortunately, it also sucks now, and the articles don't help the band either, as it's a wild collection of quotes about not wanting to be compared to Korn, writing "happy" music, and showcasing a band that was clearly at odds with each other over their sound. Trick or Treat (1986) Synopsis: Eddie Weinbauer, a high school outcast and heavy metal fan, discovers that his favorite rock star, Sammi Curr, has died in a mysterious fire. When he plays one of Curr's unreleased albums backward, he unwittingly resurrects the rocker as a supernatural force seeking revenge. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Fastway, a British rock band that composed most of the music for the film, giving it an authentic 80s heavy metal vibe. Background: This cult classic explores themes of rebellion and the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s, with cameo appearances by rock icons Ozzy Osbourne (playing a conservative talk show host) and Gene Simmons. 2. Queen of the Damned (2002) Synopsis: Based on Anne Rice's novel, this film follows vampire Lestat, who awakens from slumber to become a rock star, attracting the attention of other vampires and the ancient Queen Akasha, who wishes to rule alongside him. Soundtrack: Korn's Jonathan Davis worked with composer Richard Gibbs to produce tracks, with contributions from bands like Disturbed, Deftones, and Marilyn Manson. Background: The soundtrack was a defining feature, creating a unique, moody soundscape that reflects the gothic and seductive qualities of Rice's vampire world. 3. The Crow (1994) Synopsis: Eric Draven, a musician, returns from the grave to avenge his and his fiancée's murder on the night before Halloween. Background: Known for its dark humor, Bride of Chucky refreshed the Child's Play series, and its soundtrack added a gritty, punk-rock feel to the horror-comedy. 5. Return of the Living Dead (1985) Synopsis: When a chemical leaks at a medical supply warehouse, it causes the dead to rise and wreak havoc in a nearby town. A group of punk teens finds themselves at the center of the chaos. Soundtrack: The punk-driven soundtrack includes The Cramps, T.S.O.L., and 45 Grave. Background: Blending punk culture with zombie horror, this film is notable for its humor, gore, and punk soundtrack, which complements its rebellious, chaotic spirit. 6. Demon Knight (1995) Synopsis: A mysterious drifter named Brayker seeks refuge in a rundown hotel while being pursued by a demonic entity called The Collector, who wants a relic Brayker holds. Soundtrack: The soundtrack includes Pantera, Megadeth, and Ministry. Background: Part of the "Tales from the Crypt" film series, this movie's soundtrack and horror-action elements captured a blend of supernatural horror with hard-hitting rock. 7. Freddy vs. Jason (2003) Synopsis: Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, two iconic killers from horror franchises, come face-to-face in a battle, with teens caught in the crossfire. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Ill Nino, Slipknot, Sepultura, and Spineshank. Background: Featuring a high-energy soundtrack, this crossover slasher appealed to metal fans and is known for its adrenaline-filled music. 8. House of 1000 Corpses (2003) Synopsis: Two couples on a road trip through rural America stumble upon a bizarre museum run by a man named Captain Spaulding. Their curiosity leads them into the lair of the Firefly family, where terror and madness unfold. Soundtrack: The soundtrack, curated by director Rob Zombie, includes songs by Zombie himself along with Buck Owens and The Ramones, adding a gritty, Southern rock vibe. Background: Rob Zombie's directorial debut is heavily influenced by grindhouse films and 1970s horror. The music complements its chaotic and disturbing tone, with Zombie's own tracks amplifying the twisted atmosphere. 9. Resident Evil (2002) Synopsis: Alice, an amnesiac security operative, teams up with a group of commandos to investigate a deadly virus outbreak in a high-tech facility known as The Hive. Their mission pits them against reanimated corpses and mutated creatures. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Coal Chamber, creating an industrial, high-energy backdrop for the action-horror elements. Background: Known for its intense action sequences and blend of horror with sci-fi, the soundtrack's industrial metal sound contributes to the futuristic, menacing feel of the film. 10. Dracula 2000 (2000) Synopsis: In this modern adaptation, Dracula is accidentally revived in New Orleans, where he targets the daughter of the man who once tried to contain him. January 11th, 2025 is the 20th Anniversary of this legendary day at the Tower. Since its the 25th Anniversary, we decided to re-release this episode. Enjoy! January 11th, 2000 is a very historic day in Oklahoma City concert history. Slipknot was scheduled to play the Tower Theater for the 3rd time. The first show, they didn't have enough room to play the show due to being the opener on a Coal Chamber & Machine Head Package Tour. Max & Jimmy Johnson from Element, scramble, put their heads together to figure out how to get Slipknot back to OKC to play a headlining date. They have an off day on a Monday 10 days later, resulting in Slipknot coming back to play for 400 or so people with Element & Lowlife opening the show. Max see's the popularity of the band growing & wants to bring them back through again & the January 11th, 2000 date was booked. Keep in mind, during this time, 23rd street OKC, was not the nice vibrant neighborhood that it is now! It was a dangerous place to be with vacant store fronts everywhere. We set down with Max Baker Jr. & Jeff Brownen to tell their accounts of what happned that day, where they were during the chaos, the discussions between the band management & the booking agent, & paying the band, all before Slipknot decided not to play. There were rumors for years about what happened that night, Hopefully this clears up some of the chaos & confusion & brings people back together! Jamie Madrox, one-half of the iconic horrorcore duo Twiztid, is no stranger to busy schedules and big creative shifts. In a recent conversation with Meltdown, the rapper-turned-rocker discussed everything from Twiztid's new album to the highly anticipated House of Krazees reunion shows to how working with Rob Zombie's producer Zeus has taken their music to another level. As Halloween approaches, a special time of year for Madrox and his crew, the energy is palpable. "We live for this kind of thing. Every day is Halloween for us," Madrox said with a grin. "This is like Christmas to us—with Christmas right behind, obviously." A Twiztid Double Feature for the Ages This week's excitement revolves around a double feature of concerts at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit, a significant homecoming for Twiztid and Madrox's earlier group, House of Krazees. House of Krazees will perform on October 29th, for the first time in years at The Shelter. "We have a new record coming out for House of Krazees called 31," Madrox said. "It's like a throwback. It's a good vibe, and we're excited to do that." But the action doesn't stop there. On October 30, Twiztid will headline the main stage at St. Andrew's Hall, joined by The Funeral Portrait and Blaze Ya Dead Homie. "It's going to be a good time," Madrox promised. The New Twiztid Album: Heavy, Experimental, and Groundbreaking While the Halloween shows will lean into classic Twiztid vibes, fans eagerly await the duo's new album, set to release in early 2025. This record, however, won't sound like anything Twiztid has done before. According to Madrox, it's by far their heaviest, thanks to the involvement of producer Zeus, best known for his work with Rob Zombie. "The new record has a way heavier sound—everything from death metal to djent. There's a little splash of everything, which is fun," Madrox said. Working with Zeus was amazing, "It was a learning process for me, talking with Zeus and learning about all these crazy things like djent." Twiztid had long been experimenting with rock elements, but Madrox admitted they never quite pulled it off. "We tried to do rock in the past, but it always felt short of the mark. You could tell we weren't executing it properly." Zeus brought the expertise and production style they needed to get it right. "We recorded the whole thing differently," Madrox said. "I would send Zeus voice notes, melodies, and little ideas I had, and I'd wait for him to be like, 'Man, this is trash.' But instead, he was intrigued. He started sending me music set to the parts he liked, and the songs started to take shape. Before I knew it, these small ideas had turned into full songs, with bridges and choruses." A New Approach, A New Sound Working with Zeus brought an outside perspective to the group. "We've always done things our own way," Madrox reflected. "But Zeus made us rethink everything. He'd ask questions like, 'Why does this part sound like that?' Normally, I wouldn't ask myself those questions." The album is one of the albums they have ever produced, "When you hear it, it's unlike any other Twiztid record. You can hear a progression in our sound and in our professionalism. We're still growing as artists, even after all this time." One of the biggest lessons Madrox learned from working with Zeus was being open to critique. "I had to learn not to be afraid to fail and to try new things," he said. We were always pretty self-contained. It was safer that way. But now I'm opening myself up to new experiences, and it's been amazing." Looking Ahead: New Material, Tours, and Growth While fans won't hear much new material at the Halloween shows, Twiztid saves the big reveal for their 2025 tour with Coal Chamber. "We were supposed to go on tour with Coal Chamber, but it got postponed to 2025," Madrox explained. "For that tour, we'll have a full band, and we'll be playing a bunch of the new songs." The decision to hold off on the new material for now is all about presenting it in the best possible light. "I want people to see the new songs the right way," Madrox said. "When we go out with Coal Chamber, it's going to be more of a heavy, live band setup. That's when the new material will really shine." The band lineup for that tour will feature drummer Dan Fox, who has worked with artists like Marilyn Manson and Dope, and Derek Obscura on guitar. "These guys are phenomenal musicians, and they're going to bring a whole new energy to our live shows." Passion Projects: Astronomicon and Beyond Beyond music, Madrox and Twiztid are known for their love of pop culture, where they produce the Comicon, Astronomicon. In its eighth year, the convention has become a beloved staple in the horror, comic, and wrestling communities. "Astronomicon is a passion project for us," Madrox shared. "We love pop culture, and we want to create an experience that's fun for everyone. We always think, 'Would you be mad if this happened to you at a con?' We put a lot of thought into making it a great experience." Madrox hinted at the possibility of moving Astronomicon to a new venue but says the core mission remains: to create a positive and welcoming environment for fans of all things geeky and spooky. The Future: No Fear of Growth As Twiztid gets ready to release their most ambitious album yet and gear up for a major tour, Jamie Madrox says, "This new record really represents where we are right now," he said. "It's the result of us pushing ourselves, working with new people, and trying new things." But even as Twiztid evolves, they remain true to their roots. "We're adding new elements, but we're not forgetting where we come from. We've got to remember who we are as artists." With new music, new experiences, and a revitalized creative spirit, it's great to see what is going to be next for Twiztid, "We're still learning, still growing, and still pushing ourselves," he said. "And I'm excited for people to hear what we've created."

I begin with the logical starting place: the Keyes family, and get into a brief history of Christian Identity in the UK and US. From there, we discuss the Kehoe family including some interesting details which are often left out of the conversation. Then I go over Israel's early life and upbringing, his early military service, his first major relationship, and end discussing Israel's Grand Plan. DEVILDRIVER and COAL CHAMBER frontman Dez Fafara joins us on this week's Loaded Radio Podcast Dez Fafara is a renowned American vocalist and frontman, best known for his work with the California groove-metal band DEVILDRIVER and Nu-Metal stalwarts COAL CHAMBER. Born on May 12, 1966, in Santa Barbara, California, Fafara developed a passion for music from an early age. He grew up listening to various genres of music, including punk, rock, and metal, which greatly influenced his musical style. Fafara co-founded the band COAL CHAMBER in 1994, along with guitarist Miguel "Meegs" Rascón. Known for their distinct fusion of nu-metal, gothic, and alternative rock elements, COAL CHAMBER gained significant attention in the late '90s. Fafara's aggressive yet melodic vocals and captivating stage presence contributed to the band's success. They released three studio albums: "Coal Chamber" (1997), "Chamber Music" (1999), and "Dark Days" (2002) before taking an extended hiatus and returning with the 2015 LP "Rivals". In 2002, Fafara formed DEVILDRIVER, a heavy metal band with a more aggressive and intense sound. Leading the group as the vocalist and primary songwriter, Fafara steered DEVILDRIVER towards a more straightforward and brutal approach to metal. The band's debut album, "Devildriver," was released in 2003 and received critical acclaim for its ferocity and uncompromising style. DEVILDRIVER has since released several successful albums, including "The Fury of Our Maker's Hand" (2005), "Pray for Villains" (2009), and "Trust No One" (2016), solidifying their place in the metal scene. Throughout his career, Fafara has collaborated with various artists and participated in numerous side projects, including collaborations with Ozzy Osbourne, Nikki Sixx, and SOULFLY. He has also been involved in other creative ventures outside of music, such as launching his own clothing line and promoting his tattoo-inspired artwork. Dez Fafara's contributions to the metal and rock genres, both as the frontman of COAL CHAMBER and DEVILDRIVER, have made him an influential figure in the music industry. An episode nearly 4 years in the making, John finally gets Sevendust to win a Poll and tries to help Bryan realize that they're good, actually. It's an uphill battle after the Kast's first exposure to the band was their hideous "Southside Double Wide" acoustic album on a bonus episode, but John tries his best to convince Bryan that Sevendust are a good band despite his aversion to them for one single reason: the first time he saw them live, singer Lajon Witherspoon could not stop picking at his dick. After some initial pondering whether or not nu-metal can be sexy, we get into the Sevendust album proper, as Bryan squares his teenaged vision of Sevendust with where they're at in 2023. And well...it goes ok. Bryan acknowledges Sevendust has some killer riffs, but the songs mostly fall flat for him, but John still loves the band despite also acknowledging perhaps this album isn't a complete effort. We also fight about "Bender", get into their extremely varied touring history (from Coal Chamber to Creed to Metallica to Nickelback) and we wrap it up with the articles, where Lajon seems like a very nice fella and Bryan considers walking all his criticisms back.
