What if life wasn't meant to be a constant struggle? In this episode of This Life or Something Better, I'm inviting you to question one of the most deeply held beliefs we carry: that life has to be hard in order to be meaningful. We've been taught that growth only comes through pain, that hustle equals worth, and that ease is something we earn after everything else is done. But what if ease was a choice? What if you're allowed to live with more grace, more flow, and more trust, especially in difficult times? Join me as I share three mindset shifts that will help you: Reframe challenges and reduce mental friction Trust the wisdom and experience you already have Begin practicing ease as a way of living, not a reward for surviving If you're tired of carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, this episode offers a lighter way forward. Thanks for listening. If you find this episode helpful, please share it with a friend or family member. Have you ever caught yourself waiting - waiting for a sign, someone's approval, or the “right” moment - to make a change or finally be yourself? In this episode of This Life or Something Better, we dive into the unconscious pattern many of us carry from childhood: asking for permission before we act. Whether it's in relationships, career, or the way we express ourselves, this habit of seeking approval can quietly hold us back from living fully. Together, we'll explore where this pattern comes from, who you might still be unconsciously waiting on, and—most importantly—how to take your power back. It's time to stop waiting and start giving yourself the green light to live your life on your own terms. Thanks for listening. Today's episode is a topic that I think every one of us has struggled with at one time or another - The Illusion of Control. While we may like our life to be in some order, control is another level of that. It is often based in fear and lack of psychological safety. When we feel out of control, we either react or we acquiesce. In those moments we are not allowing our authentic self to be seen, felt or heard. In this episode, we'll unpack the illusion of control and explore the two things we can actually have power over. As we are in season of 25 Questions in 2025, I'll finish up with two reflection questions that you can journal on to help you find out where control might show up in your life and how you release it. Thriving Adoptees - Inspiration For Adoptive Parents & Adoptees

Truths can be elusive for us adoptees. Fantasies or nightmares may fill in the blanks.  And truths can shift when we re-visit the past and ask others for their truth - their versions of events. This can lead to profound realisations. Listen in as Julie and I explore shifting truths, changes of mind and more.Julie Ryan McGue is an author, a domestic adoptee, and an identical twin. She writes extensively about finding out who you are, where you belong, and making sense of it.Here are links to previous interviewshttps://thriving-adoptees.simplecast.com/episodes/julie-i4j2iwqohttps://thriving-adoptees.simplecast.com/episodes/julieHer new book is Twice The Family:From the award-winning author of Twice a Daughter comes the much- anticipated prequel. In this coming-of-age memoir–set in Chicago's western suburbs between the 1960s and 80s–adopted twins, Julie and Jenny, provide their parents with an instant family. The twins' sisterly bond holds tight as the two strive for independence, individuality, and belonging. But as Julie's parents continue adding children to their family, several painful and tragic experiences test family values, parental relationships, and sibling bonds.  Faced with these hurdles, Julie questions everything—who she is, how she fits in, and even her adoption circumstances. She understands her adoptive family is held together by love, faith, support, and her parents' commitment to each other and their children. And yet, the life her parents have constructed is not one Julie wants for herself. As she matures, she chooses her own unique path. In the process, she realizes how the experiences that formed her have provide a road map for the person and mother she wants to be.More at https://juliemcgueauthor.com/twice-the-family/Julie's debut award winning memoir Twice a Daughter: A Search for Identity, Family, and Belonging (She Writes Press) came out in May 2021. When we make big life changes, our minds tend to focus on everything we're leaving behind instead of what we're stepping into. Even when the change is positive, starting a new career, leaving a toxic relationship, prioritizing our well-being, there's often a pull to mourn what's ending instead of celebrating what's beginning. In this episode, we're diving into why we do this, what it costs us, and how to shift our perspective from loss to gain. I'll share insights on how the brain processes change, why the past can feel safer than the unknown, and how to reframe your thinking so you can move forward with confidence. Plus, I'll leave you with a journaling prompt to help you reflect on the changes in your life. Tune in, take a breath, and let's start seeing change through a new lens. Thanks for listening. We were all souls prior to coming into the human experience. As we came into being human, we had to rely on others to help us navigate our life. This process goes on well into our teens and it creates who we are as a human. Sometimes this primal family we were born into works out, and other times it doesn't. Either way, the primal family is the place where we set a foundation of learning for ourselves. Our beliefs are formed. Our behaviors are formed. Our navigation of relationships is formed. It may not always be fun, but it is a process. On this episode, we'll explore the role of our primal family and how we can best navigate the learning we received.
