Sevendust vocalist Lajon Witherspoon joins us for Episode 26 of the podcast to discuss the upcoming Sevendust record "Truth Killer", current and upcoming tours, how to keep chemistry with a band for 25 years, being a dad, growing up in Nashville, and more!
Lajon Witherspoon opens up about Sevendust's latest album, 'Truth Killer,' and why he's excited to tour with Static-X and Dope later this year.
With so many bands on tour right now, it takes a special line up for people to choose where to spend their hard earned money...and one tour that just popped up on the radar that is causing a lot of chatter is the Static X/ Sevendust/ Dope tour!!Not only are Static X bringing a huge production on the road, but our friends in Sevendust will be riding high on the wave of their newest album, "Truth Killer" when it drops in July...and we caught up Sevendust frontman and our friend Lajon Witherspoon to find out more about the tour!!
While we have to wait til July 28th for the new Sevendust album "Truth Killer", the band dropped a brutal new single, as well as a highly entertaining claymation video, this week, "Fence"...and both are amazing! And before the band heads out on the road for a handful of festival dates and a run of shows with Alter Bridge, we caught up with frontman/friend of the show, Lajon Witherspoon to talk about the new song and much more!
An episode nearly 4 years in the making, John finally gets Sevendust to win a Poll and tries to help Bryan realize that they're good, actually. It's an uphill battle after the Kast's first exposure to the band was their hideous "Southside Double Wide" acoustic album on a bonus episode, but John tries his best to convince Bryan that Sevendust are a good band despite his aversion to them for one single reason: the first time he saw them live, singer Lajon Witherspoon could not stop picking at his dick. After some initial pondering whether or not nu-metal can be sexy, we get into the Sevendust album proper, as Bryan squares his teenaged vision of Sevendust with where they're at in 2023. And well...it goes ok. Bryan acknowledges Sevendust has some killer riffs, but the songs mostly fall flat for him, but John still loves the band despite also acknowledging perhaps this album isn't a complete effort. We also fight about "Bender", get into their extremely varied touring history (from Coal Chamber to Creed to Metallica to Nickelback) and we wrap it up with the articles, where Lajon seems like a very nice fella and Bryan considers walking all his criticisms back. If you want to help support these two nice fellas, head on over to patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every dang month. Last month, we reviewed a really fun one from the young stalwarts in Silly Goose, an Atlanta band that is cutting their teeth by playing OUTSIDE of venues, and with over 100 episodes in the back catalogue (which you get access to the day you start donating), you can't go wrong. Plus, you get merch discounts (new stuff coming!), access to our Discord, and more!
As the year winds down, it was great this morning to catch up with our good friend, Sevendust frontman Lajon Witherspoon to see what's up in his world and wish him a happy holiday...and it's also great to find out that, despite being a Grammy nominated, platinum selling rock star...he has to deal with all of the same Christmas crap the rest of us do!!!
Throwing a surprise birthday for ANYONE can be a difficult task...but when that person is a famous rock star, who also happens to listen to the morning show every day...planning a surprise party over 500 miles away in Nashville can be even more crazy...but, that's what Ashley Witherspoon, wife of Sevendust frontman and Friend of the Show, Lajon Witherspoon, managed to pull off!And the fact the Dare had to keep the fact that he was flying to Nashville to celebrate with our friend a secret? Next to impossible!!!We caught up with Lajon this morning before he headed out to come back to KC to talk to him all about it!!
Our friends in Sevendust are busier than ever these days. They're wrapping up work on their upcoming new album...they're set to head out on another leg of their "Animosity 20th Anniversary" tour....and they have more big things on the horizon! But one thing has been on frontman Lajon Witherspoon's mind lately...and that's the fact that he worked in the same mall that was featured in the hit Netflix series "Stranger Things", in the same time period the show is set in...and he figures there ain't NO WAY he isn't one of those characters! Ha!!Lajon gave us a call this more to explain that theory and more!
In Episode 5 of “Podioslave Tattoos the Earth” we're joined by Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust. We take a look back at Sevendust playing Warped Tour into Woodstock ‘99 into….you guessed it, Tattoo the Earth. We also talk about 20(+) years of ‘Animosity', touring extensively on that record, and it's impact and legacy for Sevendust. Lajon and the boys are putting the finishing touches on a new album, so stay tuned for that! Episode 346 - Lajon Witherspoon (Sevendust) by Podcast from Thunder Underground
It's always a good day when we get to talk tour our friend Lajon Witherspoon, from the Grammy-nominated band SEVENDUST…not only because he's phenomenal singer/frontman…but also because, if you follow him on social media you know, that he's an amazingly good human being. A devoted father and husband who is thankful for all of the success he has achieved. And now that the band has rolled into KC tonight, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their album “Animosity” by playing it in its entirety LIVE at the Truman, it was time to get Lajon on the phone to see what's goin' on in his world!!

PLUS… Back in the 80s, one of the biggest shows on television was, “The Facts of Life”…and a large part of that was due to legions of teenage boys who had crushes on actress Lisa Whelchel, who played the snobby rich girl Blair Warner! And now, she's hosting the 3rd season of her MeTV show, “Collector's Call”, exploring the world of rabid collectors of everything under the sun…and, those folks out-nerd us nerds like nobody's business!!!
Electric artists have been playing acoustically since the beginning of recorded music. Usually, the slower ballads and the prettier mellow songs by rock artists were accompanied by acoustic guitars. This week we are celebrating bands that can re-imagine an up-tempo song with acoustic instruments and still rock! We are pulling the plug… and gasping for air guitars! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the FORGOTTEN. Mtv started a series in 1989 called “unplugged”, and almost every mainstream relevant act started producing acoustic albums or versions of their songs. This week we listen to some artists that you may have never considered as having acoustic interpretations of their songs.Songs this week include:Sevendust – “Seasons” from Southside Double-Wide Acoustic Live (2004)Thundermother – “Dogs From Hell (acoustic)” from Heat Wave Deluxe Addition (2021)Diamond Head – “Lightning To The Nations” from Acoustic First Cuts EP (2002) Los Kung-Fu Monkeys – “Common Chord (acoustic)” from Common Chord (2020)Clutch – “Basket Of Eggs (acoustic)” from Blast Tyrant Deluxe Addition (2011)Haunt – “On The Stage” from Unplugged Vol. 1 (2021)Suicidal Tendencies – “Get Your Right On!
