STEVE LUKATHER DENIES RUMORS OF PLAYING GUITAR ON NEW VAN HALEN ALBUM TOTO's Steve Lukather has dismissed recent reports suggesting he will play guitar on a new VAN HALEN album. Earlier this week, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported that Alex Van Halen was working on a collection of previously unreleased VAN HALEN recordings, with Lukather assisting in completing them. In a paywalled Guitar World article, Alex was quoted as saying: “Ed and Steve Lukather were very good friends and often worked together. There's no one better suited to help me through this process.” Lukather, seemingly surprised by the comment, responded in the same article: “Did Alex say that? Oh, in that case, the news is true. Ed, Alex, and I were very close for years. It's true that we worked on this together.” However, on Saturday (March 15), Lukather took to Instagram to clarify his involvement, writing: “For the record: Ever since Alex Van Halen mentioned we were going to work together, there's been a huge misunderstanding. I will NEVER play a single note on a VAN HALEN song—ever! Al asked me to help sort through a ton of unfinished recordings of him and Ed writing and recording together—music that never saw the light of day. That's all I know at this point. The idea that I would play guitar on this is ridiculous. I have too much love and respect for Ed and his music. Plus, I don't play anything like him. My role is more of a co-producer, if anything. I'm honored Al would ask me. Let's see…” Alex has previously stated there's enough material in the VAN HALEN vault for “three or four albums.” On Chris Jericho's Talk Is Jericho podcast, he shared: “I've talked about it loosely, and I'm a bit superstitious, but I can say this: We're going through the vault, digging into the ideas Ed left behind. There's some great stuff in there. When you're in the thick of it, sometimes you miss the real gems. It's only when you revisit them later that you realize, ‘Wow, I forgot about this. This kicks ass.' But it takes time. I want to do it right.” LUKATHER & VAN HALEN'S HISTORY Eddie Van Halen and Steve Lukather had a long history of collaboration. Lukather played the main riff on Michael Jackson's Beat It, while Eddie provided the iconic solo. Eddie also played bass on Lukather's debut solo album and made a guest appearance on Steve's 2003 Christmas album, Santamental. Following Eddie's passing in 2020, Lukather reflected on their friendship in an interview with Metal Master Kingdom: “It's still hard for me—the wound is deep. I was honored to be Ed's real friend, not just a guitar buddy. Our friendship lasted over 40 years. I love all the guys in VAN HALEN. I'm Switzerland when it comes to their relationships. I was just on Sammy's [Hagar] show, and he was great to me. Mike [Anthony] is always kind. But I've always stayed especially close with Al. Losing Ed left a hole in my heart that won't go away. We didn't just talk about guitars—we talked about our kids, our lives. Toward the end, we mostly just bragged about our sons. That's what mattered.” While Lukather's role in the VAN HALEN project remains undefined, one thing is clear—his deep respect for Eddie ensures the music's legacy will be handled with care. Chris Benoit: The Final Chapter

The wrestling world stopped in June of 2007 when a tragedy beyond anything the industry had ever seen occurred over a three day period in Fayetteville, GA. The industry had dealt with a considerable number of younger wrestlers die from a variety of causes. Drug abuse, suicide and freak accidents had hit the industry hard. But this was something different. One of the top performers in the industry, Chris Benoit, who had been heralded for years and was a former world champion had killed his family. The impact on the industry continues to this day as it still remains a tragedy that is seldom talked about in the industry. Chris Benoit started wrestling in Canada in the mid-1980′s. He started in the wrestling promotion that was started by the famed Hart family. Bret and Owen Hart's father Stu ran that territory in the area around Calgary. Benoit was known to idolize the “Dynamite Kid (real name Thomas Billington) for his style of wrestling which was really ahead of his time. Benoit was shorter in stature than a lot of wrestlers being under six feet tall and learned to do an intense and brutal style of wrestling that made fans notice him even though he was not as large as many other competitors. Steroids were also rampant in the industry during that decade and Benoit did utilize them to build an incredible amount of muscle. As the years went by Benoit traveled to Japan and eventually wrestled in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) but he became nationally known when he joined World Championship Wrestling. Benoit was brought into the legendary “Four Horseman” stable led by Ric Flair primarily due to his abilities as a top level performer in the ring. Nancy Benoit got into the wrestling business a few years after Chris and started as a valet and manager in WCW in the late 1980′s. She was most well known for playing the villainous manager “Woman”. During this time she was married to wrestler Kevin Sullivan who was several years older than her. During the mid-90′s when Benoit was married, Sullivan booked a wrestling angle with Benoit where in storyline he started an affair with Nancy. But that on-screed romance developed into a real life romance and the two eventually divorced their respective spouses and got together as a couple. Which is ironic being that Nancy Benoit's ex-husband Sullivan booked that original wrestling angle. Nancy Benoit eventually left wrestling but Chris continued to make progress in his career. He eventually won a world title in WCW then left for the WWE (then WWF) in 2000. Around that time Nancy and Chris got married and had their son Daniel. Chris' career continue to ascend during his time in WWE as he eventually won the world title in the main event of Wrestlemania XX. June 2007 It was the weekend going into the Monday Night Raw that was slated for June 25th, 2007 and Benoit was slated to appear. But no one had heard from Benoit in the days leading up to the event and missing performance dates was very out of character for him. Wrestler Chavo Guerrero spoke about cryptic voicemails and text messages he received from Benoit and reported it to WWE management. This was spoken about on the “Dark Side Of The Ring” documentary produced by Vice TV. Eventually police went to the Benoit home at the request from WWE to conduct a welfare check. Investigators in Fayetville, GA found the bodies of Benoit, his wife Nancy and his son Daniel. Nancy Benoit was killed by asphyxiation and her hands and feet were bound. His son appeared to have been sedated and was also killed by asphyxiation. Then Benoit eventually took his own life by hanging himself on a weight machine. Prior to police determining the cause of death and who was responsible WWE was put in a position on how to deal with the news publicly because Raw was about to go live. The “Dark Side Of The Ring” documentary shows Vince McMahon gathered all the performers together to break the horrific news to them. The show was essentially cancelled and turned into a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. But as the hours went by later in the evening WWE learned the true horror of what had happened in the Georgia home and responded the next night. The following night WWE had the broadcast of their ECW show and at the beginning of the show McMahon gave a statement: “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Last night on Monday Night Raw, the WWE presented a special tribute show, recognizing the career of Chris Benoit. However, now some 26 hours later, the facts of this horrific tragedy are now apparent. Therefore, other than my comments, there will be no mention of Mr. Benoit's name tonight. On the contrary, tonight's show will be dedicated to everyone who has been affected by this terrible incident. This evening marks the first step of the healing process. Tonight, WWE performers will do what they do better than anyone else in the world: entertain you.” McMahon provided a similar statement later in the week on their episode of Smackdown. That was the last time WWE ever mentioned Chris Benoit. The company went to great lengths to erase him from all WWE material. While there is still Benoit matches in their archives that can be found on Peacock, there has been no content produced by WWE since 2007 where Benoit is included. Nancy Benoit's sister Sandra Toffoloni has spoken in depth about her thoughts on the crime and what exactly happened on the “Talk Is Jericho” podcast hosted by wrestling star Chris Jericho who was a longtime friend of Benoit. The public demands answers. No other scandal in the history of professional wrestling made mainstream headlines like the Benoit tragedy. Cable news networks led a large number of shows for days analyzing the murder-suicide. A lot of that had to do with beliefs that steroids may have played a role in the tragedy. Benoit's autopsy report showed he had a considerably high testosterone level in his body at the time of death leading many to speculate that “roid rage” may have caused the murders. Further investigation showed that he had been prescribed testosterone by his doctor. Many of those medications along with other prescription drugs were found in the home. It was later determined the testosterone was prescribed to supplement his levels due to years of past steroid use.

THE CHRIS BENOIT MURDER SUICIDE CASE   Another thing that could have had weight in the story and in this tragic ending was the fact that Chris's brain was totally out of shape, had cet after having had constant traumas in his head. Literally, Chris's brain was the same as an 85-year-old elder with Alzheimer. The fault of this is the damn ambition and the little care that the directors of the WWE had for their fighters. Certainly, every fight was a performance and they had a script, but the acrobatics and the use of metal chairs to hit each other put their health and integrity at risk. Eerie Twist In Wrestler's Murder-Suicide Investigators are looking into who altered pro wrestler Chris Benoit's Wikipedia entry to mention his wife's death hours before authorities discovered the bodies of the couple and their 7-year-old son. Benoit's Wikipedia entry was altered early Monday to say that the wrestler had missed a match two days earlier because of his wife's death. A Wikipedia official, Cary Bass, said Thursday that the entry was made by someone using an Internet protocol address registered in Stamford, Conn., where World Wrestling Entertainment is based. An IP address, a unique series of numbers carried by every machine connected to the Internet, does not necessarily have to be broadcast from where it is registered. The bodies were found in Benoit's home in suburban Atlanta, and it's not known where the posting was sent from, Bass said. Benoit allegedly strangled his wife and son during the weekend, placing Bibles next to their bodies, before allegedly hanging himself on the cable of a weight-machine in his home, police said. No motive was offered for the killings, which were discovered Monday. Over a two-day period from June 22 to June 24, 2007, Chris Benoit, a 40-year-old Canadian professional wrestler employed by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), murdered his wife Nancy and their seven-year-old son, Daniel, before hanging himself at their residence in Fayetteville, Georgia, United States. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The wrestling world stopped in June of 2007 when a tragedy beyond anything the industry had ever seen occurred over a three day period in Fayetteville, GA. I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Saturday, December 19, 2020. This update is sponsored by IndyWrestling.us. Coming up, results from Ring Of Honor's Final Battle, Friday's SmackDown and New Japan Strong - but first some sad news.. An iconic voice in Lucha Libre has died. Dr. Alfonso Morales passed away Thursday after a long battle with kidney disease. Morales was a sports journalist first - before becoming the announcer for BOTH AAA and CMLL during their broadcast TV expansion in the 1990's and beyond. Dr. Alfonso Morales was 71. Staying in Mexico, CMLL has canceled its PPV scheduled for Christmas Day. The announcement came after authorities in and around Mexico City shut down all non-essential businesses through January 10th..due to a spike in COVID-19 hospitalizations. (STINGER: Ring Of Honor Results) Ring of Honor back on pay-per-view for the first time in a year, with its biggest show of the year - Final Battle. There were two late changes to the card. Instead of battling EC3, Jay Briscoe LOST to Shane Taylor, who called it the biggest win of his ROH career..and declared he's got next in the ROH World Title picture. (More on that in a moment) Bandido and Flamita were also held out of the show. So instead of defending the 6-man tag titles, Rey Horus got a match against Dalton Castle..and WON. The main event saw Rush retain his ROH World Title against Brody King..after interference by Rush's father, La Bestia del Ring, and his brother, Dragon Lee. Lee retained his TV title against Tony Deppen, who advanced from a 4-way match earlier in the night. It appears Rush, Lee and the rest of La Facción Ingobernable are on a collision course with The Foundation. The two sides had a staredown at the end of the night. The Foundation's Jay Lethal and Jonathan Gresham retained their ROH tag titles against Mark Briscoe and PCO. Then, Gresham beat Flip Gordon to hold onto the Pure Title. Matt Taven and Mike Bennett beat Vincent and Bateman. But The Righteous responded by attacking Bennett's legs.. Also, Danhausen finally secured his ROH contract. He beat Brian Johnson via disqualification. (Danhausen ROH Contract) Some of Danhausen's post-match comments on ROH's social media. (STINGER: Smackdown Results) Last night's SmackDown the final stop before WWE's TLC show on Sunday.. The Street Profits retained their tag titles with a win over Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode. Bayler pinned Bianca Belair after raking the eyes of Belair and hitting her Rose Plant finisher. Otis beat Shinsuke Nakamura. And Kevin Owens was beaten down by Jey Uso and/or Roman Reigns no less than four times..ahead of his Universal Title match against Reigns on Sunday. (STRINGER: New Japan Results) New Japan Strong last night.. KENTA beat the aforementioned Brody King to hold onto his contract to challenge for the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship. KENTA will carry the briefcase into Wrestle Kingdom..and he made it clear he's ready to challenge Jon Moxley. The only questions are when..and where? PWInsider reports.. Madison Rayne will be leaving Impact Wrestling for a new job outside the pro wrestling business. Kenny Omega and Don Callis are working hard to blur the lines between wrestling and reality. Omega says “it was time” for him to take the AEW World Championship. (Omega On AEW Title) Omega and Callis are both guests on the new episode of Talk Is Jericho. Finally, AEW is in danger of losing its trademark filing for the “Stadium Stampede”. Hell By Nature was first to report the filing has been suspended by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. One of the issues is WWE's trademark for the old WCW pay-per-view “Spring Stampede”. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Saturday, December 19. Welcome to the 7th podcast episode of this side series, the Podcast Spotlight. In this episode, we talk with up and coming local podcaster, Farriqin Anuar, as he introduces the following 2 podcasts: Podcast 1: Talk is Jericho Recorded from all over the globe, former multiple time world champion pro wrestler, lead singer of Fozzy and New York Times best-selling author Chris Jericho rocks the podcast world with "Talk Is Jericho," his unique, weekly take on all things pop culture and life in general.  As with most interview shows, the main draw comes from both the guest and the host. Talk is Jericho definitely has both in spades. As a host, Jericho is charismatic and naturally talkative, and makes the conversation just flow by. And though a bunch of his guests come from the same wrestling background where he built his career, there are plenty of others from musicians to TV producers to filmmakers, to fill out the show. Listen to this if you are a fan of wrestling, or love the conversational style of interview podcasts. Podcast 2: Inside of you with Michael Rosenbaum Michael Rosenbaum has spent the better part of the last two decades in and out of film and television – mostly known for playing Lex Luther on the show Smallville. As he relates "I'm the guy that you probably don't know by name, but when you see my face you might say “oh, that guy from that thing.”" Throughout his career he has connected with many in the industry, but noticed that he doesn't really know any of them on a personal level. This is the show where he attempts to correct that. In terms of interview style, it must be said that it bears a great resemblance to WTF with Marc Maron. There's plenty of back and forth conversation, a ton of soul searching, and the occasional deep dive into Rosenbaum's and his guest's deepest fears and insecurities. The stories can be painful to listen to at times, but it is also what makes it authentic and relatable. Who knew that celebrities shared the same fears and anxieties that we do? Listen this if you are a fan of Marc Maron's style of hyper-personal conversationalism, and if you want to learn more about the guests on his program. Music by Pandrezz: Takin' you for a ride Once again special thanks to Farriqin Anuar for agreeing to come on the show. On a personal note, this was probably the most raw interview I've ever done. Just in terms of sharing experiences with podcasting, the struggle and hustle, and the dream that makes it all worth pursuing. As a foray into the lives of the podcasters trying to make it work in Singapore, Farriqin is probably as close and as authentic as you are going to get.
