Send us a textGary Meskil is the founding member and driving force behind Pro-Pain, a prominent hardcore metal band that emerged in the early 1990s. Born in New York City, Meskil's early exposure to the thriving punk and hardcore scenes of the 1980s heavily influenced his musical direction. Prior to forming Pro-Pain, Meskil was a bassist for the hardcore band Crumbsuckers, which laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the heavy music genre. In 1991, Meskil founded Pro-Pain with the intention of creating a band that combined the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk with the heavy riffing and technical proficiency of metal. Pro-Pain's debut album, Foul Taste of Freedom, released in 1992, was a critical and commercial success within the underground music scene. The album's raw energy, socially conscious lyrics, and Meskil's powerful vocal delivery set the tone for the band's future releases.Pro-Pain quickly gained a reputation for their relentless touring schedule and ferocious live performances. Meskil's leadership and vision were central to the band's success, guiding them through numerous lineup changes while maintaining their core sound and message. The band's music often tackles themes of political and social issues, personal struggles, and resilience, resonating deeply with fans who appreciate the blend of hardcore urgency and metal precision.Over the years, Pro-Pain released a series of influential albums, including The Truth Hurts (1994), Contents Under Pressure (1996), and Act of God (1999). Each release showcased Meskil's growth as a songwriter and his ability to adapt to the evolving landscape of heavy music. The band's sound incorporated elements of groove metal, thrash, and even hints of melodic death metal, ensuring their relevance in a genre known for its rapid shifts and trends.Despite the challenges faced by many bands in maintaining longevity, Pro-Pain has remained a consistent force in the metal and hardcore scenes. Meskil's dedication to his craft and his refusal to compromise the band's integrity have earned Pro-Pain a loyal and passionate fanbase worldwide. The band's relentless work ethic and commitment to their message have solidified their place as one of the enduring acts in heavy music. In 2017, Meskil faced a significant personal challenge when he was brutally attacked and robbed in Belgium while on tour. The incident left him with serious injuries, but his resilience and determination shone through as he recovered and returned to the stage. This episode further highlighted Meskil's unwavering dedication to Pro-Pain and his indomitable spirit.Gary Meskil's impact on the metal and hardcore scenes through Pro-Pain iwww.BetterHelp.com/TheBarnhttp://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. The Millenium / Y2K has come & gone.. The legendary Slipknot show happened January 11th, 2000. (episode 29 is all about that show). January 14th, 2000 The Misfits, Speed Dealer, & Element were scheduled to play at the Tower but due to the situation that arose at the Slipknot show, this one was moved to the Diamond Ballroom as well as the following Bo Diddley show. Next, the Insane Clown Posse comes back to OKC for a show scheduled at the Myriad side hall, all while a wedding, an FCA Conference, & an OKC Blazzers Hockey game were all happening at the same time. The second time was not the charm. An hour before the doors opening, ICP decides to cancel & their fans were none to pleased with this decision & proceeded to lose their minds. What happens when a 15 year old juggalo decides to attack an Oklahoma City Police Officer? Listen & find out... Motorhead, Nashville Pussy, & the Supersuckers come to the Diamond, playing a legendary show for less than 400 people. We talk about a Disturbed show at the Diamond Ballroom w/ Apartment 26 where less than 300 people were in attendance. The 1980's music scene is known for its debauchery, however, we discuss a band from Texas that was signed to Tommy Boy Records called Pimpadelic. Who is quite possibly the hardest partying band we've ever seen! The Rock & Roll Adventures of Max Baker Jr. Continues as we wrap up the year 2000 in this Episode! *** Special Guest Alert!!! *** Mike and Nick tackle a different topic - bringing to light some of their fav bands that are decidedly NOT of the mainstream!!! If these bands were a play, it wouldn't Broadway or even "Off-Broadway"...more like, OFF OFF OFF Broadway in the basement of a Knights of Columbus play! Ok, maybe that is exaggerating, but they are bands that are important to a smaller group of fans. We will be joined by guitarist ADAM PHILLIPS (ex-Pro Pain, Indorphine) in the discussion! Join us!!! We also give a NAMM 2022 recap and also feature our regular segments including: - Preview of Friday's releases - DIS-Covered and of course... - THIS SONG SUCKS!!!
Suffering can take us down one of two roads as followers of Jesus: it can build our character, or it can drive us back to our old ways of sinning. 1 Peter 4:1 says, "Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin." When we fix our eyes on Him and base our hope in His promises, God gifts us the strength to persevere through our pain and endure our struggles.
Suffering can either build us up in character or take us down by driving us to revert back to old sin. God will give us the strength to endure through the suffering and we are called to soldier on and keep our hope in Him. 本期聊到的内容: 休斯顿汽车文化和独有的配套slang; 00s 休斯顿四大天 Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall; 80s 明显受 N.W.A 影响的 Geto Boys, 已经初显 chopped n screwed 的特征; 休斯顿和新奥尔良、孟菲斯音乐场景联系紧密; Chopped n screwed 在90s 的开创性和地域趣味, 作为制作手法(而不是一种风格)在2010s 因为新一代cloud rap 又流行起来; 更加冷门的 South Park Coalition 神奇领袖 K-Rino; Rap a lot 在90s 产出了不少精良作品; UGK 独创的“弹着说的”flow 影响深远,Ridin' Dirty 里 Pimp C 和 Bun B 的完美配合,据说在当时是第一张使用 ProTools 制作的说唱专辑,并且开始向全国讲述休斯顿本地题材; 从一个文化外人来看,00s 休斯顿音乐的魅力就在于执着本地题材—— “candy painted with gloss, you can hate it but that's the way a player floss!!!” Slim Thug “Boss of All Bosses” Chamillionaire “The Sound of Revenge” Geto Boys “We Can't Be Stopped” DJ Screw “3 N The Mornin' “ Scarface “The Diary” Big Mello “Wegonefunkwichamind” Devin The Dude “The Dude” UGK “Ridin' Dirty” Bun B “Trill” Pimp C “Pimpalation” Paul Wall “The People's Champ” Mike Jones “Who is Mike Jones?” Fat Tony “Smart Ass Black Boy”
