The legendary Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed joins the podcast this week to talk about this year's edition of Milwaukee Metalfest. We get into the ins and outs of running the festival, curating the line-up and more. I also get an update on the next Hatebreed album, Stormbreeders of Death and I ask perhaps the most important Jasta-related question of them all: why have we not had another Icepick album. Then Matt Priso of Conspiracy X, Spells Ov Torment and SIK joins to co-host the weekly news rant. We round up the latest singles by Horn, Signs of the Swarm, Death Angel, Helheim, and for judgment, and Matt updates me on the status of all his musical projects. Immortalis is a gripping Indie comic that's the result of the creative vision of both Shawn Lewis and Rion Mosely, who Wayne talks with this week in Episode 689. Shawn and Rion began work on this successful Indie series back in 2021, and it has been coming out both as a self-published comic and from Markosia, one of the UK's leading independent publishers, particularly in the graphic novel field. The series is available at that site here and also here as well as at their own website mandlcomics.com. The book is described this way: “Immortalis is the ongoing adventure of Tam Montefiore, born in 1813 to be the one true Deicide in the war between heaven and hell and the old gods of myth.” We talk about this book came to be, who the characters are, and what else these excellent creators have coming our way soon, including the 12th and 13th issues of Immortalis. Don't miss it!

Meanwhile, Matt Heafy is ready to sell you a bag of cough drops to help you do some yells. Some funko-like company is selling action figures of Alex Terrible fighting a bear, just in case you need a very expensive, very embarrassing item to place in your house. Finally, Exodus is having a hard time booking a tour, first with Deicide, then with Possessed. Seems there might be some baggage with Jeff! Folks... it's an episode. #LaGaleríaNocturna #Decortication #DeathMetalMexicano GothProds Links Apple Podcast — https://podcasts.apple.com/mx/podcast/goth-prods/id1606324255?l=en Amazon Music — https://music.amazon.com.mx/podcasts/d10f63b6-f4f3-4a91-b21d-d98c2b08ca01/goth-prods?ref=dm_sh_xBGgYoDaqnREmWm0IoJu5r4kd Audible — https://www.audible.com/pd?asin=B09Q9YY6PF&source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=podcast_show_detail Facebook — https://www.facebook.com/Goth-Prods-104237088306624/ Instagram — https://www.instagram.com/goth_prods/ TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@goth_prods

Welcome to another episode of The Great Metal Debate podcast, talking about the Dutch blackened death metal band God Dethroned with their 12th studio album The Judas Paradox. While this band certainly has its slight black metal vibes, I've always seen them as more of a melodic death metal band. Their guitar riffs have always been calm and groovy. Two years ago, God Dethroned announced they had switched record labels to sign with Rising Phoenix Music for their next full-length. Fast forward to about two months ago when they released another new song titled "Rat Kingdom". This time around I became very excited because the new song seemed to be leagues superior to the previous single they dropped two years ago. The 2nd single released happens to be both the album title track and the first song on the album. I gotta mention the use of choir in the mix. It's a fantastic addition and sounds completely new. "The Hanged Man" is a song that kicks some serious ass with its Deicide vibes. The layered vocals make it sound extra demonic and it even reminds me of the song "Conquered By Sodom". There's also an old school sounding guitar solo on this one. It's one of the shorter songs but it's definitely a standout. Moving on we have an interlude track labeled as "Black Heart" which is only 51 seconds long. It's a dissonant choir practicing their vowels with church bells ringing. But it leads straight into that song that I mentioned earlier called "Asmodeus". This time I really paid attention to this song so I could absorb every note being played. I wanted to really study this one to see if my opinion of this song would change. The results? When I compared this album version of the track to the music video, there weren't any changes made in the sound mixing. It still sounded like the one and only stale track this band has ever made. It felt soulless compared to every banger this band has produced in the past 27 years. I guess a dud was bound to happen sooner or later, although it did sound better than I remembered. Maybe because this time I had a clear head. "Kashmir Princess" is another song where I remember the riff. As monotonous as it was, I was slightly reminded of one of their earlier works. Not saying that Dave Meester had recycled any riffs but I did get the "Rusty Nails" feeling, albeit, not as heavy. The next track really picks up the pace again to the God Dethroned we all wanted. "Hubris Anorexia" begins with three long screams that are layered in succession. It's here where I have to give both Henri and Dave credit for their winding guitar efforts. Dave also continues to show off his skills as a shredder in "The Eye of Providence". "Hailing Death" is another banger that will make you shout "Hailing Death" every time they say it throughout the song's first minute. This one has another gorgeous guitar riff at the halfway point of the track. Too bad it doesn't last long. It does make a very brief return towards the end of the song which fits as a neat little outro. "Broken Bloodlines" wastes absolutely no time going hard and fast from the first fucking second! The speed of the guitar chugs are aggressively heavy and will make any Taylor Swift fan's head explode. And finally we come to the last song on the album "War Machine". When I saw this song title, I automatically assumed it was a Black Sabbath cover but then I thought, wait a minute, Six Feet Under already did a cover of that. As I listened to this song, I figured out right away that this is an original song by God Dethroned that simply has a name that has been used before. The song is okay, but not their best work. I feel like "Hailing Death" should've been the last track because it had the audio fade out at the end. I feel like it would've worked a lot better. So what's the verdict? God Dethroned has never had a bad album and The Judas Paradox isn't their first. It is not a disappointment by any means. I'm going to rate The Judas Paradox a 7.5/10.

This week, we've got Karl Sanders of Nile back on the show. This time, however, we're here to discuss The Underworld Awaits Us All, the band's 10th studio album. During our chat, Karl gives us insights on the album's pre-production, including its timeline, how it was a unique experience compared to previous albums, and how Mark Lewis has earned the vital importance of earning the band's trust when mixing an album. He also chats about having a song that is needed in sequence to take a breathe from the sheer brutality of the new album, the process to get the artwork and vinyl pressing just right, and touring in 2024 with realities that dictate how to make it a successful run. Petar and Jozalyn tackle Tommy Lee's wisdom of being an escort has a down side when it gets to the escorting part of it, Deicide's drummer defending the use of AI artwork, John 5 getting everyone hyped up for another new Motley Crue song, and Randy Blythe reminding us once again of the power of being in the moment of a live performance. SIX FEET UNDER guitarist Jack Owen joins us this week on The Loaded Radio Podcast to discus theband's new album "Killing For Revenge" plus much more From the opening moments of "Know-Nothing Ingrate," which kicks off "Killing for Revenge", it's immediately clear that SIX FEET UNDER focused their energies into something that's as brutal, lyrically visceral and musically dazzling as one would hope for from the ground-breaking Tampa-bred death metal lineup on their 14th studio album. "Killing for Revenge", a gnarly beast of a record that's not for the faint-hearted, dishes up nightmare-inducing imagery courtesy of frontman Chris Barnes via the vocalist's trademark guttural vocals. Both the album title and darkly detailed red-hued album cover by artist Vince Locke are perfect containers for the brutality within. "Killing for Revenge" marks the second album that Barnes and guitarist Jack Owen (both ex-CANNIBAL CORPSE) have created together since reuniting for 2020's "Nightmares of the Decomposed", an album one critic praised an "often slow-ish and doomy yet crushing death metal" which offered an "uncompromising show of strength." Owen also produced "Killing for Revenge", with Barnes as production assistant. SIX FEET UNDER was initially formed as a side project for Barnes during his final years with the band that he co-founded, CANNIBAL CORPSE. It became the frontman's sole focus in 1995, coinciding with the release of their debut, "Haunted". Only Barnes remains from the original SFU band, but the quality has remained remarkably consistent. The current lineup of Barnes, guitarists Owen and Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Marco Pitruzzella make for a devastating unit. Jack Owen: A Shredding Force in Death Metal But let's get into Jack himself. Jack Owen, a name synonymous with brutal riffs and pummeling grooves, has carved a legendary path through the world of death metal. Born in December 1967 in Akron, New York, Owen's musical journey began with a love for blues and country, influenced by his father's guitar playing. This diverse background would later add unexpected depth to his ferocious metal creations. CANNIBAL CORPSE and Early Success (1988-2004): Owen's foray into extreme metal began in 1988 when he co-founded the band that would define his early career: CANNIBAL CORPSE. Alongside vocalist Chris Barnes, Owen became a driving force behind the band's signature sound, characterized by technical proficiency, unrelenting aggression, and lyrics that reveled in the macabre. Albums like "Tomb of the Mutilated" and "Butchered At Birth" cemented CANNIBAL CORPSE's status as death metal pioneers, and Owen's shredding guitar work became a hallmark of the genre. DEICIDE, SIX FEET UNDER and Beyond (2004-Present): In 2004, Owen left CANNIBAL CORPSE to pursue other musical endeavors. These endeavors would turn out to be DEICIDE, replacing the Hoffman brothers, where he remained a member of the brutal band until 2016. The following year, he joined his former CORPSE bandmate Chris Barnes in SIX FEET UNDER where he not only remains, but also plays such a massive part of in the way of production, writing and performing. The reunion proved fruitful, with Owen's songwriting partnership with Barnes breathing new life into SIX FEET UNDER. They've released a string of critically acclaimed albums together, including their latest effort "Killing for Revenge" which showcases Owen's relentless ferocity remains undiminished. Beyond Death Metal: Despite his association with death metal, Owen's musical tastes are eclectic. He has expressed admiration for blues and country legends, and even filled in for a short period with the band ADRIFT, showcasing his versatility as a guitarist. A Legacy of Brutal Brilliance: Jack Owen's impact on death metal is undeniable. His innovative riffs, technical prowess, and songwriting skills have influenced countless musicians. During this episode of The Loaded Radio Podcast, Jack sits down with Loaded Radio's Scott Penfold and discusses everything from the latest SIX FEET UNDER album, the history and evolution of death metal, his love for animals, his relationship with Barnes, the early days of CANNIBAL CORPSE and also whether he believes that a tour featuring both bands will ever happen.

This week on The MetalSucks Podcast, we welcome Brittney Slayes, vocalist of the mighty Unleash The Archers! During our chat, we discuss the band's forthcoming album Phantoma due this Friday, May 10. Some of the topics covered during our conversation includes what went into the creation of the album's concept and overarching storyline, how the protagonist in the story is thrust into horrible situations but that hope is always right around the corner, and how this relates to us having to slow life down in modern times to truly be appreciative. On a more philosophical level, we also tackle how new challenges in life can be scary but necessary, why being happy is a conscious choice that isn't always easy, the negativity that we have to take daily in so many avenues on the internet, the positive messaging Brittney's tried, and how the positive interactions the band has with fans are a blessing for them. Petar and Brandon discuss the rapper OsamaSon completely ripping off Iron Maiden's artwork, Deicide's Glen Benton statement on the modern look of metalhead, and the disturbing allegations made against Knocked Loose's drummer Kevin Kaine (and his response to those accusations). Reflecting on past performances, we address musical evolution and the contributions of new guitarist Taylor Nordberg and sound engineer Jeramie Kling (both in Inhuman Condition). Benton shares insights into guitarist Mark English's departure and talks about the pivotal partnership with Ralph Santolla. From bass setups to managing fan encounters, we also tackle pressing socio-political issues, including the impact of left-wing authoritarianism and the future of global leadership. https://deicideofficial.com/

This week on Toilet Radio we took our time absorbing the arcane and esoteric knowledge contained within Bardo Methodology interviews. Hails my brethren, for did we learn much of the limitless wisdom of the cosmos contained within the multitudinous verbiage of these titans of hessian heavy metal. Forsooth, the simple lemmings of this world could never grasp the enormity of the forbidden truth sprinkled like diamonds among swine spoken by Portal, Aosoth, Watain, Bolzer, and much more. Also we talked about Deicide and Hour of Penance using shitty AI album art. Folks, it's a good one. Like this show? Want more? JOB FOR A COWBOY frontman Jonny Davy and EXIT EDEN co-vocalist Anna Brunner join us for this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast This week on the Loaded Radio Podcast Scott Penfold sits down first with JOB FOR A COWBOY vocalist Jonny Davy to discuss the death metal outfit's latest album "Moon Healer". “Moon Healer” is set for release on February 23rd via Metal Blade Records. The release marks JOB FOR A COWBOY‘s first new full-length in a decade! “Moon Healer” is a vivid illustration of what happens when creativity, aggression, and volatility tangle for the first time in years. Like the band's critically adored, 2014-released “Sun Eater” offering, “Moon Healer” is musically multifaceted, unabashedly brutal, and compellingly conceptual. Featuring a newly refreshed and reinspired lineup of frontman and co-founder Jonny Davy, guitarists Tony Sannicandro and Al Glassman, bassist Nick Schendzielos, and drummer (since 2020) Navene Koperweis, the band seamlessly picks up the mantle where JOB FOR A COWBOY‘s “Sun Eater” left off. Compared to past offerings, “Moon Healer” is as bone-crushing as JOB FOR A COWBOY has ever been. But it's more consistent and conceptual, composed with the utmost enthusiasm and confidence. “The evolution of our sound has become a big part of the band,” Davy says. “As we mature as musicians, our tastes and interests naturally expand. With age comes more experience and ideas that we wouldn't have considered in our earlier years.” “Moon Healer” was produced by Jason Suecof (DEATH ANGEL, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEICIDE) at his Audiohammer Studios and is the first JOB FOR A COWBOY album to feature session drummer Navene Koperweis (ex-Animosity). Davy previously worked with Koperweis in the progressive death metal side project FLESHWROUGHT, which released Dementia/Dyslexia through Metal Blade in 2010. Koperweis also worked as a session drummer for MACHINE HEAD and WHITECHAPEL and is currently in the band ENTHEOS, whose third full-length came out on Metal Blade in March 2023. In the second portion of the podcast, Scott sits down with Anna Brunner from EXIT EDEN. Symphonic metal unit EXIT EDEN, consisting of Clémentine Delauney (VISIONS OF ATLANTIS), Anna Brunner (LEAGUE OF DISTORTION) and Marina La Torraca (PHANTOM ELITE) recently released their second album, “Femmes Fatales” via Napalm Records. “Femmes Fatales” includes 12 songs in total — half covers, half original compositions. EXIT EDEN‘s new release follows the band's debut, 2017's “Rhapsodies In Black”, which garnered millions of video views (12 million on EXIT EDEN‘s cover of Bonnie Tyler‘s “Total Eclipse Of The Heart” alone). Previous singles from “Femmes Fatales”, “Run!” (featuring ex-NIGHTWISH bassist/vocalist Marko Hietala) and “Separate Ways” (JOURNEY cover) have already surpassed a million views since their respective releases in October and December 2023. Now performing as a trio, EXIT EDEN‘s new full-length follows the path of its predecessor, as it contains six cover versions of famous cross-generational super-hits, but this time also shines by offering six original compositions. With one exception (“Dying In My Dreams”, co-written by Marina La Torraca),the remaining five original songs were brought to life by Brunner and Hannes Braun (KISSIN' DYNAMITE),who is also responsible for recording, production and mixing, whereas the album was mastered by Jacob Hansen (DELAIN, AMARANTHE, VOLBEAT, DESTRUCTION and many more). Self-confidently leading straight into the tempting world of EXIT EDEN, opening “Femme Fatale”, “Buried In The Past” and “Hold Back Your Fear” conjure a mystical atmosphere with strings and orchestral elements, topped by complementary vocals uniting the sonic diversity of the all-femme trio. “Dying In My Dreams” and album closing “Elysium” set the tone as captivating mid-tempo tracks with intense choruses that speak straight to the heart.

We are fighting the Christmas spirit this year by discussing the trend of Metal bands writing about money-grubbing, lying, megachurch owning evangelists in the '80s and '90s such as the infamous battle between Deicide's Glen Benton and Christian Talk Show Host Bob Larson. We also share our favorite albums from 2023, including picks from Spirit Possession, Frozen Soul, Phobocosm, Blood Incantation, Xysma, and more. Listener emails bring us back to discussing Gwar again, discovering the New Mexico Metal scene, and we get another email from that one dude, Kyle.
