Hot on the heels of the acclaimed Tears Maker Chant 12” LP, illustrious French Electronic duo Froid Dub are back on Ransom Note Records with an interstellar remix package, with a little something special for all occasions on this colossal record. Slip into something comfortable and sit back. Lead single comes from Strange Affair with their mix of Just One. Who are Strange Affair, we hear you ask? They are the exquisite combination of two big hitters, Ruf Dug and Tia Cousins! We're delighted to introduce their maiden voyage as a production pair, and they make waves here with a frenzied reimagining of the original.
A radiant beacon of light and energy, Naarm's longtime curator, tastemaker and worldly dance music selector Adriana steps away from the d-floor to serve us a delightful blend of soulful hip hop, r'n'b and neo soul, moving between vintage and contemporary cuts with complete ease and steeze! Opa! @goodlucktoyourdad Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when putting this mix together? Is there a sound, feeling, or time/place in dance music history that connects all the different elements in one way or another? A. This mix has been inspired by what I've been listening to as of late which has been heaps of rnb, neo-soul, hip-hop and afrobeat. Thrown in the mix are some real classics from the 90's as well as some contemporary jams that have really impressed me. I think it's too easy to get caught up in having to play only what is considered to be “underground” when in actual fact there are some fire mainstream releases as of late. Q. Are there any records in the mix that are especially close to your heart, or old favourites that you've been keeping up your sleeve for the right moment? A. The last jam ‘Come Dance with Me' by Sleepy Brown definitely takes me back to my childhood and ignites a fire in my heart!! I wasn't too sure if bringing up the mix by another 10bpm to finish was a wise move but I'm so glad I did! Q. A massive winter edition of your ever evolving Spasta party is happening this June with an mega lineup just announced (Jex Opolis, Ruf Dug & Adi Toohey to name a few), how long has this one been in the making, and what kind of vibes might we be able to expect over the two stages? A. This Spasta is our biggest one yet and the enthusiasm behind it has been mind blowing!! People are so keen for a day festival in the Winter - especially when the lineup and location are undeniably amazing! As always, Spasta will emphasise my Greek culture - this time with a Florinian band to welcome guests upon arrival, Greek statues projected across the convent walls and ouzo to be catered at the bar. We also really pride ourselves on the artists that we book - this time mixing it up between fan favourites and underground figures who deserve a spotlight on them because they're so damn incredible! Spasta prides itself on not being pretentious which is why it feels so welcoming. I am proud of the community that I have created alongside Finding Figaro, and am grateful that people are so trusting and receptive to our vision and values! We simply cannot wait to do it all over again with them this June! :D
Flug 8 - Puerto Rico (The Velvet Circle Mix). Pablo Bolivar & Mind Groove - Other Memories. DJ KOZE - 16 Drone me up, Flashy (feat. Sophia Kennedy). serpentwithfeet - Lucky Me. Tomaga - A Perspective With No End. КЕМ - Кафе. Ruf Dug x Private Joy - Don't Give In (Street Soul Vocal). Little Simz - Fever. Carl Craig - At Les (Russ Gabriel rework). Soul Clap, Ebony Houston - Something In My Heart. Sunday Brunch - No Resistance. Unknown Artist - Untitled A1. Roughly ten years ago—if we pretend the peak pandemic year-and-a-half doesn't count—Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets first came together as Detroit Swindle, before changing their name to Dam Swindle towards the end of 2020. The original name was meant as a tribute to one of their favorite musical legacies, but recognizing that it didn't come across how they meant it, the duo changed their name to pay homage to their other favourite place: Amsterdam. Dales and Smeets have become core parts of the Amsterdam house scene in their time, especially with their excellent Heist Recordings label, which they started back in 2013 (hey, now *that's* literally ten years ago). It's easy to understand why the duo have become so popular. In person and onstage, they're goofy, funny guys, the kind of people you might describe as the life of the party. And musically, they're massively appealing, marrying a European tech house strut to deeper and more soulful inspirations, a preoccupation reflected in Heist's impressive artist roster: Ge-Ology, Demuir, Byron The Aquarius, Matthew Herbert and more. Their RA Podcast comes at a time of reflection and change, looking back on the decade-plus history of both act and label and plotting their new album, which they say will expand their horizons even more. The mix is eclectic but smooth, pulling together tracks from the likes of Omar-S, Lil Silva, Ruf Dug and Genius Of Time (with one of last year's most underrated tracks). It's always a treat to hear consummate club DJs in a more relaxed mode, and this one's no exception. @damswindle Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/866

It's taken me a bit longer to post this next mix, mainly due to finding the time to record it! It's an extended mix of more than 4 hours of music from artists that feature on the Warm Up Festival 2022 line up. This is an unofficial mix, I'm purely a fan of Warm Up, the festival in 2021 was amazing and I'm sure this year will be even better. I wanted to put this together to showcase the different artists who will be playing over the weekend, 27 different artists feature in the mix which is most of the line up. We go through the gears, build the energy and bring you back down to earth again towards the end. Really enjoyable to mix these tracks and challenging to piece together and create nice journey with some really great tracks. p.s One track technically doesn't qualify as the artist isn't actually on the line up. I only realised my mistake after recording. Can you guess who?....Check out the festival here.... https://www.warmupfestival.co.uk 1. Be Svendsen - Decoy (Original Mix)2. The producer, DJ, label boss, radio host, and record store owner Ruf Dug should need little introduction to those on the scene. Between his residencies at Pikes, Gottwood and NTS radio the Manchester-via-Ibiza computer game freak and renowned vinyl digger has found time to meld his wide range of influences in the studio, spanning balearica, street soul, 16-bit and everything in between.

Bside Incoming: Marcel Vogel This weeks episode is a big one, EPISODE 75! And we're ecstatic to celebrate with an incredibly talented DJ and devoted record collector. A man with a reputation for having impeccable taste and enchanting delivery: Marcel Vogel. The native German moved to Amsterdam in the pursuit of Audio Engineering mastery and founded two record labels on his journey: Lumberjacks in Hell followed by Intimate friends, closely connected yet stylistically distinct projects, projects that house some incredible artists, Karizma, Soulphiction, Eddie C and Jamie 3:26… to name just a handful. He was a hip-hop collector before becoming a house selector, and then found a soulful disco groove from which Lumberjacks in Hell was born. His style is defined by an eclecticism that can light up any dance floor. Marcel threw parties with the likes of Axel Roboom back in the Berlin days, but more recently under the name of Cheetah amongst the vibrant nightlife of the Dutch capital. Almost ten years would pass upon an increasingly remarkable DJ career, before the landmark in a lifelong musical exploration of his first production. The Bside of which is a remix from one of our very own guests, a downtempo disco trance from Marcel Vogel and Ruf Dug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TL2ZjqTFAI&feature=emb_logo It would be hard to pin down a genre, mood or even style to this episode but it never strays from the authentic atmosphere that surrounds Marcel Vogel. The passion for music is evident and we're lucky enough to grab a glimpse of his incredible record collection. Enjoy! Ruf Dug. ‘Rüf Dug presents the Committee', released on Rhythm Section International in April last year, provided one of our favourite Bsides of 2019, thanks to a collaborative approach which brought us two amazing tracks: ‘All U Get 2 Do' with Bradley Zero and ‘Sunrise' with Natalie Wildgoose. (listen here -https://rufdug.bandcamp.com/tr…/sunrise-ft-natalie-wildgoose) His Bside mixtape remains true to his electrifying style. Intricate details, groovy basslines, rhythmic percussions and euphoric horns. This a true showcase of his amazing record collection and proof of his turntable talents as you move through ambient soundscape into a deep funky throb, a few deliciously dubby numbers and a some soulful ska. We also bring you a (likely) exclusive exposure of his most expensive Bside which the man himself describes as “really shit”. But don't worry he'll let you listen to the “real side” which we're sure you'll agree is “mega”. Huge thanks to Ruf Dug for agreeing to come on the show! The music industry is filled with sound people who have a passion for sharing music, we really appreciated his time and everyone else we have had on the show. Give Ruf Dug some support. What else is there left to say? We've said it all... Bawrut is a hero of ours, a brother and a friend - he was the first man to feature on the label and has since gone on to roaring success with his music having been championed by everyone from Avalon Emerson to Skream, Andrew Weatherall to Patrick Topping, Optimo to Roman Flugel and beyond. His sound seems to find wide appeal across a spectrum of genres and sits firmly atop the niche - universally danceable and endlessly fun. He's made many friends along the way and his energetic, warm hearted approach to dance music is exactly what is needed in the current climate of seriousness and fabrication. His new EP is set for release on Ransom Note Records and 'Pronto Arpeggio' has already been a roaring success across the clubs and festivals this summer - he smashed it. The release is rounded off with remixes from KiNK and Ruf Dug and it's about as big as they come. Those who have watched Bawrut dj will know what to expect here - fun, fast paced and lively music built for the party. Lock in and get ready for the launch...

This week we welcome Manchester native Ruf Dug to Solid Steel, owner of the appointment-only record store Hi Tackle and label-boss of Ruf Kutz. His releases have also appeared on labels like Unknown To The Unknown, Music For Dreams, Klasse Wrecks and Tusk Wax. With music from Omar-S, Martini Bros, DJ Duke and John Tejada in his mix, he told us; "I recorded this mix at my studio on a Tuesday morning - it’s 100% vinyl for no other reason than I couldn’t get into the room with the CDJs in it (must improve biometric hacking techniques). I figured well fuck it then I’ll just play out of my bag like it’s a gig. My record bag is a continual work in progress; I very rarely empty it out and start over so it’s constantly evolving - some things haven’t left literally for years. I just did a reasonably large refresh after the festivals so it’s a little newer to me than normal. The mix was gonna be longer but the Glowing Palms tune ended sooner than I expected and it seemed like a good point to stop; sometimes u gotta let fate make the big decisions. Biggups mashups & minimal, the world is ready to forgive u. All my love to my incredibly understanding wife Louise, my beautiful son Larry and my beautiful home Manchester." In Hour 2 it's Brame & Hamo from Sligo, Ireland and currently based in Berlin, who have expertly produced some of the most effortless house music of the last few years via their first imprint Splendor & Squalour. In 2017 they launched their eponymous second label with the Trants EP to critical acclaim. Their latest EP “Celebrity Impersonator” came out last month and they had this to say about their mix; "It has been ages since we have put out a mix, and it’s a pleasure to join the Solid Steel series as it is one of our favorites and has shaped who we are as artists. This is a good account of the tunes and style we play when we are out at a gig. It features a few rare gems, and some unreleased but forthcoming productions of ours. We hope you enjoy!” Playlist: San Pellegrino - Kaschiel One Step Ahead (MAW Mix) - Debbie Gibson I Was Tired Of Being Alone - Klodya Less Pain - Omar-S Nativtonguetwisterhood - MB Critical Ebb - Intelligent Communication Butter Up (Inst) - Elektrik Dred Hot - Martini Bros Tribal Journey - DJ Duke Mind Bend - John Tejada Core - Nagual Your Love - Jackmaster Hater Murder Weapon - Sugar Minott Mighty In Battle - TNT Roots For Real - M-Dubs My Caesar - Mark Seven Love - Reggie Dokes Good Girls - Designer Music Equitoreal Dubtribe - Sound System Saturday - Unknown Getting There - Glowing Palms

Since 2014 Banoffee pies have been delivering tasteful records which have remained consistent and enigmatic. Ruf Dug, Mr Mendel, MMT, Wendel Sield, Fyi Chris, Florist and many more have all featured. Upon a dig through their back catalogue it is notable that they have become tastemakers, often ahead of trends and ready to inspire. We caught up with them as they are about to release two compilations . Catch Banoffee Pies at Farmfest this summer. @farmfestival

Ruf Dug in the house. Episode no.6 is hot shit, from somewhere in darkest Mancunia comes 60 minutes of vinyl only dance floor dynamite, with an extra special sprinkling of Ruf's own FX units, tape delays and dub sirens. Vinyl heads need to check his essential Ruf Kutz label and his rufkutz.net blog is worth a look for edit giveaways and banter, if nothing else...
