On the show this time, it's Ólafur Arnalds, and Janus Rasmussen making music together as Kiasmos. Kiasmos make experimental electronica, born in the cold geography of Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Ólafur Arnalds is a composer and producer, known for his work combining electronic beats and loops with organic string and piano sounds. He’s made 5 solo albums and created music for soundtracks, and he’s collaborated with bands as varied as Heaven Shall Burn, and Bonobo. Janus Rasmussen is in the band Bloodgroup, and creates his own melodic experimental music in Reykjavik. They started together in 2009, releasing their self-titled full-length in 2014. Their latest album together is simply titled “II” and is available on Erased Tapes. Kiasmos - the side project/supergroup of producer and songwriter Janus Rasmussen and BAFTA-winning composer Ólafur Arnalds - dropped their debut album back in 2014, and its unexpected success left them unsure how to approach its follow up. Composing Myself starts 2023 as we mean to go on, with Wise Music Group CEO Dave Holley and Creative Director Gill Graham embarking on a bracing, invigorating meander through the conversational hills with Icelandic composer and multi-instrumentalist Ólafur Arnalds. Subjects broached include the minutiae on how phonographs work and Ólafur's formative teenage hardcore punk band Cone Heads, the long and winding road from hardcore bands to composing theBroadchurch score, and the development and creation of his ingenious, ground-breaking musical software Stratus. https://olafurarnalds.com/Ólafur Arnalds is a multi-instrumentalist and composer - internationally known for his haunting musical style. He captivatingly combines elements of ambient, classical, electronic, pop and rock music. His recent album “re:member” (2018) follows the success of his innovative musical project Island Songs (2016). “re:member” features Ólafur's new software, Stratus, which transforms the humble piano into a unique new instrument.Ólafur has been praised for his extensive soundtrack work, including composing the score for ITV's Broadchurch, for which he won the 2014 BAFTA for Best Original Music. He has been involved in various other media projects and his music appears in many films, television shows and advertisements.Together with Barði Jóhannson (Bang Gang), Ólafur composed music for “Dyad 1909”, a Random Dance/Wayne McGregor project. It's taken me a bit longer to post this next mix, mainly due to finding the time to record it! It's an extended mix of more than 4 hours of music from artists that feature on the Warm Up Festival 2022 line up. This is an unofficial mix, I'm purely a fan of Warm Up, the festival in 2021 was amazing and I'm sure this year will be even better. I wanted to put this together to showcase the different artists who will be playing over the weekend, 27 different artists feature in the mix which is most of the line up. Faroese musician, Janus Rasmussen, has many strings to his bow and, alongside his own solo music and a multitude of collaborations with other artists (as producer, engineer and songwriter), he is also famous for his highly-celebrated work with Ólafur Arnalds as KIASMOS. Now based in Reykjavik, Rasmussen's discography has spanned multiple genres. The electro-pop elements of his early career with the band Bloodgroup have evolved into a rich, predominantly instrumental techno-tingle soundscape and his prowess as a producer has also brought about a successful side-career as a host of a series of production tricks videos on Youtube. Rasmussen's debut album, Vin, was nominated for the Nordic Music Council Prize and we've included tracks from that record together with other highlights on our Janus Rasmussen playlist which you can check out on our website at www.melodyam.com/janus

Alongside acclaimed pianist and producer Ólafur Arnalds as KIASMOS, Janus Rasmussen has performed at the most esteemed festivals in the world such as INASOUND, Lowlands, Paraíso, BIME, Mad Cool, and Lovebox where they shared the stage alongside some of the most prominent artists in the world including Alesso, Foo Fighters, Major Lazer, Muse, Lana Del Rey, M83, alt-J, Black Coffee, Bonobo, Gorillaz, and Dua Lipa just to name a few.    And now for something completely different. This latest mix is almost, dare I say, dance music. Yikes! Actually it's not like this is EDM/Dubstep with ridiculous drops and autotune vocals. But all the music in this mix definitely has 4/4 time signature.   One of my favorite discoveries over the last couple of years has been the music of Kiasmos, a minimal techno duo comprised of Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen. The music has the 4x4 beat but it's more gentle than full on techno or house music. Olafur Arnalds came in for an hourlong special music interview with longtime fan and host, Ash Berdebes. In it they talked synths and Chopin, minimalism and the Tao te Ching, Mossfellsbaer, the beauty of imperfection, and playing games to create 'happy accidents' in music. Olafur gives some insight into how songs from his collaborations with Alice Sara Ott, Arnor Dan, Nico Muhly, Nils Frahm and Janus Rasmussen (Kiasmos) came about.
