It's about why. From the beginning, God's purpose has been to dwell with His image bearers in unbroken fellowship. It's tempting to think that our sin ruined that plan, and that Jesus was God's Plan B. But as Edward Klink says, Jesus and the Church were always Plan A. More than that, God is not replacing creation; He's renewing it, and you and I have been invited to participate in that renewal as God's agents of redemption. Klink's latest book, The Beginning and End of All Things, will give you a bigger, more accurate perspective on God's plan for creation and your place in it. On this week's episode of I've Been Thinking, Alanna dives in to the importance of holistic health in today's world and how chiropractic can play in to that with practicing chiropractor Dr Letitia Smith- aka Dr Tish! Chiropractic is ultimately quite an ancient practice, something we don't dive into in this episode, but it is also very controversial- especially with gimmicky social media doctors and the study's history of associations with more "woowoo" ideas. Dr Tish tells us about her chiropractic philosophy, as well as the importance of considering many different factors in one's overall health. If you're a die hard chiropractic lover like Alanna, you may already know about some of the ideas we talk about in this ep- but if you're a skeptic (like Adam or Producer Tyler, for example) we just ask that you come into this episode with an open mind, because if nothing else it's an interesting perspective. And isn't that what I've Been Thinking is all about?

The Bookshop Podcast

In this episode, I chat with Paulina Porizkova about her book No Filter, The Good, The Bad, And The Beautiful, living in an all-male household, crazy weather, and receiving a call from Maria Shriver.Paulina Porizkova is a Czechoslovak-born writer. A former model, she was the first Central European woman to appear on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 1984. In 1988 she became one of the highest-paid models in the world as the face of Estee Lauder. She has starred in 16 movies and a slew of TV shows as an actress, and she has served as part of the judging panel on Cycle 10 of America's Next Top Model.  Paulina Porizkova was born in Olomouc in 1965 and grew up in the Moravian town of Prostějov, a city dating back to 1141 in what was, at the time, Czechoslovakia. In 1968, during the wake of the Soviet-led invasion, Paulina's parents escaped Czechoslovakia and settled in Sweden, leaving her behind with her grandmother. Her mother went back to Czechoslovakia to get her daughter, only to be captured and taken to prison, where, because she was pregnant, was put under house arrest with Paulina and her grandmother and soon-to-be-born brother for three years. Amid media coverage, Paulina, her brother, and her mother were later allowed to enter Sweden. However, the rest of her family remained in Czechoslovakia.  Her debut novel, A Model Summer, was published in 2007, and her memoir, No Filter, The Good, The Bad, And The Beautiful, was published by The Open Field in 2022. A new chapter for I've Been Thinking, y'all- THANK YOU for ringing it in with me on this episode! Octavia, today's guest, is an absolute treasure. She has overcome severe chronic illness, learning to advocate for herself, learning about the nervous system and healing, and making it her mission to share that with others so that they don't have to suffer in the same ways. I hope that for anyone experiencing chronic illness, or in proximity to someone who is, this episode gives you what you need. I hope that for those who have never had to experience chronic illness in any ways, this gives you a new perspective on a life that someone else might be living. Whatever the outcome- I hope we've made you think. ;) Don't forget to check out Patreon for more content and to support the pod: https://patreon.com/ivebeenthinking

Refugees and migrants take their path for many different reasons one of which is economic. How does the money they send back to their homes - remittance - change their families, communities and even governments? Outside of this how does their new cultural capital impact how they see the world around them and from where they travelled from? Pennsylvania State University's Joseph Wright, along with Abel Escribà-Folch and Covadonga Meseguer have written Migration and Democracy: How Remittances Undermine Dictatorships - available in the US right now and the UK early 2022 - to look at these questions and more.
