C'est une sacrée histoire qu'on vous raconte ce soir dans Place des Fêtes. Celle d'une rencontre au comptoir d'un magasin de disques, une époque sans doute un peu révolue. Christophe Le Friant, fan de rap US, demande à Alain Hô, collectionneur de funk et de soul, de la musique dans la veine des productions d'A Tribe Called Quest. Il lui fera découvrir Roy Ayers… C'est le point de départ de 30 ans d'aventures musicales entre abstract hip hop, house, acid jazz, trip hop, dance qui emmèneront Bob Sinclar et DJ Yellow de Paris à Miami, en passant par New-York, Londres ou Ibiza. Ensemble ils ont créé, il y a 30 ans, Yellow Productions, un peu par hasard, beaucoup par passion, et les succès de DJ Cam, Kid Loco, Dimitri From Paris, Salomé de Bahia ou encore du projet Africanism, ont fait du label un des phares de la French Touch. Un livre, préfacé par Olivier Cachin et un coffret de 3 vinyles, viennent de sortir pour rappeler l'immense contribution des deux compères à une musique qui se joue des frontières géographiques et des tendances. En fin d'émission, notre chroniqueur écrans, Olivier Forest, nous dit tout le bien qu'il pense de FOTOGENICO, le film de Marcia Romano et Benoît Sabatier.

Who Is Todd Edwards: Todd Edwards is a house and garage veteran whose signature productions have lit up dancefloors for decades, and whose collaborations with Daft Punk sit in the record collections of millions. Edwards' music has been recognized as a major influence on the nascent UK Garage genre in the United Kingdom in the mid 1990s. He became known for his intensive sampling and remixing technique that involves “cross-hatching brief snatches of vocals into a melodic-percussive honeycomb of blissful hiccups” as described by critic Simon Reynolds. Used both on his solo albums and on his remixes for other artists, this complex vocal sampling technique in some cases renders the original track almost unrecognizable. With remixes numbering in the hundreds, some of the artists Edwards has remixed include Wildchild, St. Germain, Benjamin Diamond, Justice, Klaxons and Dimitri From Paris. Edwards co-produced and performed vocals on the Daft Punk song “Face to Face” from the album Discovery and he worked again with them, co-writing, co-producing and contributing vocals to the song, “Fragments Of Time” from their 2013 album Random Access Memories, for which he won a Grammy.
