Sam shares insights on everything from leveraging paid ads to land big contracts, building client trust through flexible and simple contracts, and the hustle required to keep a service business running year-round. Join us to learn how Sam has built his business from the ground up while balancing life as a firefighter, why customer-first service is his cornerstone, and why he believes there's no “perfect time” to start—just a need to get moving.
Daisy Thomas and Heath Shaw are calling out the AFL on behalf of (ourselves mostly if we're honest, but also) the fans. The Pies need to be concerned about the Giants midfield and where Collingwood has the advantage. -------
This week's guest is top comedian Ben Clover who joins us live from Edinburgh Fringe, hence the clear background noise of people having way too much fun in the daytime. Ben explains how he changed his look post plague, to a point where his cohorts barely recognised him in the street. Regarding telly, we discuss the genius and brutality of shows such as Wolf, Deadwood and Utopia, the latter being a show that Ben could no doubt write a thesis on. The talent of David Simon comes up yet again, as does the creepiness behind Top of the Pops presenters and the BBC test card. Conversely, Ben also contemplates how different the TV show Life on Mars could have been had it been made just a few years later, with the investigative knowledge of Operation Yewtree within Sam Tyler's remit.Follow us on Instagram & Twitter (links below):All music written and performed in this podcast by Steve Otis Gunn. Please buy my book 'You Shot My Dog and I Love You' available in all good book shops, online and directly.Podcast Socials:Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@tvtimespodInsta: https://www.instagram.com/tvtimespodYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/@tvtimespodTwitter: https://twitter.com/tvtimespodSteve's Socials:Insta: https://www.instagram.com/steveotisgunnTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/steveotisgunnFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/steveotisgunn.antisocialBen's Socials:Insta: https://www.instagram.com/benclovercomedianTwitter: https://twitter.com/BenClover_Produced by Steve Otis Gunn for Jilted Maggotwww.jiltedmaggot.com Hosted on Acast. ONE SCOTT DEAL by Lucy Eden Ex-Navy Seal turned private mercenary Sam Tyler is a man on a mission. A mission to get as far away from New York and his tragic family history as he can. A new gig with a private security firm is exactly what he needs, but there is one obstacle his military training couldn't prepare him for. A spoiled, smart-mouthed, and incredibly sexy starlet named Ella Scott. Quadruple threat Ella Scott was born to be an entertainer. Seriously, she booked her first acting job before she could crawl. Do specialized pediatric jump bags alienate the pediatric population? They typically don't get used as much, and introducing a foreign bag into a low volume population may add to the stress of running a pediatric call anyway. In this episode, Sam & Tyler discuss the case against the pediatric jump bag.
We've promised and threatened, and this time we deliver: our commentary of Life on Mars episode 1, in which Sam Tyler wakes up in 1973. The episode stars John Simm (Doctor Who's Master 2007-2017) and Philip Glenister. This discussion takes place while watching the episode, and covers all manner of topics, from the show's early inception to fashion and style, logistics of reimagining Manchester in the 1970s over 30 years later, and beyond. There are, unsurprisingly for a show that ended in 2008 (and a sequel that ended in 2012), considerable spoilers in this commentary, so if you're planning to watch Life on Mars for the first time with no prior knowledge of the show, it's best you avoid this podcast. We envy you. On the other hand, if you weren't already convinced to check this show out while Doctor Who is off air, this commentary might just help. Why do we read novels? Is it for the exciting things that happen? The alien invasions, the locked room murders, the desperate mountaintop rescue missions? Those things are important, sure. It's been a while since we had any acting talent on the show, so it gives us great pleasure to welcome the wonderful John Simm to Soundtracking. John has appeared in many great productions on stage and screen. He is perhaps best known for his roles in Life on Mars as Sam Tyler and Doctor Who as The Master, with recent appearances in Collateral on the BBC and Trauma on ITV. His films include Wonderland, Human Traffic, and 24 Hour Party People - and we'll obviously be featuring tracks from all of these projects throughout the conversation. He's also an accomplished musician, with plenty more about his exploits on that front featuring too.
Happy New Year! We start off 2018 with part 1 of our night of a couple porches. Josh has Sam Tyler on the show to talk about Sword in the Stone! Don't forget to like and subscribe on iTunes!
The ninth episode of the podcast which asks: were England’s international failures of the 1970s caused by an insistence on playing football on beaches in massive flares and stack heels while pretending to be Marvin Gaye? This episode, Pop-Crazed Youngsters, sees us making another Sam Tyler-like voyage to Spangleland in an attempt to see if 1974 could keep up the quality levels of the year before, or if it was already lurching into the hell of 1975. What we discover is a Bizarro-world in which Noel Edmonds stands out as a bouffanted, proto-Medallion Man object of genuine teenage lust amongst the sullen, lank-haired youth. Musicwise, we see ‘new’ bands taking wing (Mud, in their Glam-Ted Vishnu phase), older bands calming themselves down (Slade, doing a ballad) or on their way out (Mungo Jerry, we’re looking at you), and people absolutely losing their shit over The Wombles. Pans People cause your Dad’s tea to slide right off his lap as they don the flounciest, bounciest nighties ever, Bill Haley is unearthed and put on display, the Terry Jacks Deathwatch drags on for another week, and history is made as Abba yomp all the way from Brighton to Shepherds Bush to begin their glacial reign over the Seventies. Al Needham is joined by Simon Price and David Stubbs to discuss all of this, as well as rubbish funeral songs, supporting a football team that looks like your favourite mug, BBC Families v ITV Families, believing that pop songs are actually news bulletins, and the Celtic ritual of Crisp Sacrifice. And all the swearing you could possibly want. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
The impact of charter schools on district school budgets has become a central point of contention in the debate over Question 2, the November ballot question that would allow an expansion in the number of charter schools in Massachusetts. Stephanie Hirsch, a municipal and state finance consultant, and Sam Tyler, president of the Boston Municipal Research Bureau, dig into those issues in this week's Codcast. Hirsch has developed a web tool to examine the impact of charter growth on district budgets with her husband, Joe Calzaretta, a mathematician and software engineer. They describe it here.
