For some time now I’ve raised concern regarding the poor resale values of electric vehicles and that it would cost early adopters at trade-in time. Recent data supplied by the Australian Automobile Dealer Association, Automotive Insights Report, which studies used car sales, has found that electric vehicles lose 25 percent of their value in the first 12 months, depreciating at more than twice the rate of petrol-powered vehicles. A one-year-old EV loses a quarter of its purchase price compared to around 11.5 percent for petrol models. Diesel models were found to depreciate just five per cent in 12 months while Hybrids dropped just 1.7 per-cent in the same period. The AADA wisely attributed the strong EV depreciation to the aggressive discounting particularly from new Chinese brands entering the market while our best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y, was slashed by $9500 during last year. Send us a textEpisode 173Takeji Asano, born in 1900 in Kyoto, Japan, was a masterful woodblock print artist whose works continue to captivate art enthusiasts worldwide. His journey into the world of art began at the Kyoto City School of Fine Arts and Crafts, from which he graduated in 1919. Eager to refine his skills, he furthered his studies at the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting, completing his education in 1923. During this period, Asano was mentored by Tsuchida Bakusen, a distinguished artist and printmaker, who profoundly influenced his artistic development. In 1929, Asano co-founded the Kyoto Creative Print Society (Kyoto Sosaku-Hanga Kyokai), marking his commitment to the sōsaku-hanga movement. This movement emphasized the artist's direct involvement in every stage of printmaking—designing, carving, and printing—allowing for greater personal expression. Asano's dedication to this philosophy set him apart from many of his contemporaries. The 1930s saw Asano contributing to the "Creative Prints of Twelve Months in New Kyoto" (Sosaku-hanga shin Kyoto junikagetsu), a series that celebrated the city's evolving landscape. Collaborating with fellow artists Benji Asada and Tomikichiro Tokuriki, Asano's prints from this series showcased his keen eye for detail and his ability to capture the essence of Kyoto's transformation. As the 1950s approached, Asano began designing landscape prints for the publisher Unsodo. These works, characterized by their serene beauty and meticulous craftsmanship, remain highly sought after by collectors. Original Unsodo prints bear the Japanese date in the margin, distinguishing them from modern reprints. Throughout his career, Asano exhibited a remarkable versatility. While he initially embraced the sōsaku-hanga approach, handling all aspects of print production himself, he later collaborated with carvers, printers, and publishers in the shin-hanga tradition. This adaptability not only broadened his artistic repertoire but also enriched the Japanese printmaking landscape. Asano's legacy is a testament to his unwavering passion and dedication to his craft. His prints, often depicting tranquil landscapes and traditional scenes, offer a window into Japan's rich cultural heritage. Today, his works are celebrated for their artistic merit and historical significance, solidifying Takeji Asano's place as a luminary in the world of Japanese woodblock printing.Support the showInsta@justpassingthroughpodcastContact:justpassingthroughpodcast@gmail.com
You Will Be Peter with Jerry Lathan, Steve Manchester The extraordinary story of a young fisherman who became the Founding Father of Christianity, the most influential and enduring institution in history. He's one of the most well-known figures in cultures around the world, etched into stained glass, painted in frescoes, even caricatured as standing at the gates of heaven with a long white beard and keys in hand. But long before he was portrayed as a venerated and untouchable figure, Peter was simply known as Simon, a twenty-something fisherman in a far-flung Jewish province controlled by the Roman Empire. Loyal and faithful, impetuous and passionate, Simon's quiet life is upended by the arrival of a man called Jesus of Nazareth, rumored to be the long-awaited Messiah who would rescue the Jewish people from oppression. When Simon meets Jesus, the mysterious man tells him, “You will be Peter,” a prophetic statement that would slowly transform Simon's life. Eager to be free of the Romans, Simon joins Jesus in hopes that he can guard this leader who will, undoubtedly, build an army to challenge Rome. But as Simon waits for the army to form, he watches Jesus show a compassion for others Simon has never seen before. The miracles Jesus performs—healing the sick, feeding crowds of thousands—show not a display of military might, but of service and love. Real, relatable and impeccably researched, You Will Be Peter draws on the four Gospel accounts to weave Simon Peter's story into one seamless tapestry. Readers get a front-row seat to Simon's three-year walk with Jesus, as Simon watches the Son of Man feed the hungry, raise the dead, upend the status quo and challenge the elite during one of world history's most pivotal seasons. In perhaps one of the greatest miracles, we can see ourselves in Simon, this ordinary man Jesus chose to accompany Him. Simon wasn't well-educated, but he was faithful and headstrong. Though he could rush to judgment and use a foul word from time to time, he was the kind of friend who loved fiercely and was doggedly loyal—until he wasn't. Although he failed, Simon wasn't cast away from Jesus' mission. In fact, his failures and subsequent redemption made him a more empathetic and capable rock upon whom the Church was built. With storytelling artistry that transports readers to the first-century world, with the sights, sounds, and smells of that time, You Will Be Peter shares an age-old story told from a new set of eyes: it's possible for one ordinary person, however unlikely, to change the world forever. https://www.youwillbepeter.com/ Jerry Lathan brings a wealth of knowledge in telling the remarkable story of Simon Peter. Combining his lifelong interest of history with a decade of research, Jerry has unearthed missing details on the evolution of Simon—the brash fisherman who became Peter. Over forty-plus years, Jerry's national award-winning construction company has preserved and restored historic churches and other structures and national monuments. His deep interest in the lives of historic characters is central to his calling to author You Will Be Peter. From Jerry's time as co-owner of Big Easy Studios in New Orleans where more than twelve major movies were filmed, he understands the incredible power of a good story. In this book, the culmination of his life's work, Jerry shares the real and relatable story of Simon Peter, the very flawed man whom Jesus chose to build His church. youwillbepeter@gmail.com 251.443.7663 (Monday-Friday) Co-Author Steven Manchester is the author of the soul-awakening novel The Menu as well as the 1980s nostalgia-series Bread Bags & Bullies and Lawn Darts & Lemonade. His work has appeared on NBC's TODAY and CBS's The Early Show; and in Billboard and People magazines. In 1997, police were on high alert, as gang wars were threatening to take over Sydney. Armed bikies were rampaging through the streets, often in stolen vehicles, wreaking havoc and committing brazen crimes in busy public areas. On one warm day in November, general duties officer Jeff Garland spotted two men with their hands concealed in heavy trench coats rush into a silver porsche. Immediately, something seemed off. The coats when it was so warm, the hands in their pockets and the flash car. He could've easily let them go, but instead he followed his hunch and pursued the two men. Bio By Sharon Mbabazi I am 37 years old and live in West Michigan, USA, with my wonderful husband and three beautiful children. They keep us very busy, and we are always on the go. I also work full-time as a data team leader for a company that provides strategic supply chain solutions to hospitals, banks, and other businesses in the surrounding areas. I started my intermittent fasting journey at the end of June 2023 to lose 30 lbs/13.6 kgs. I had been steadily gaining weight since having our 3rd child in 2018 and was ready to take some steps to reverse the upward trend. I had tried counting calories and various exercise routines, and even though I would lose a little weight, it wasn't sustainable. I would always end up gaining back more than what I started with. I discovered IF when our wedding photographer, Tonya Kortekaas (featured in episode 161), shared her incredible story through social media. I contacted Tonya, who gave me excellent guidance on getting started. She recommended great resources, including The Fasting Highway book, podcast, and Facebook group. Yes, I had to put in the effort and hard work to start my journey, but her advice and those resources have genuinely played a key role in my success. I gradually worked my way from a 16:8 window to 19:5 over about one month and have been steadily losing weight for the last year. I made some mistakes in the beginning (I was not clean fasting for the first week or so) but quickly learned and made adjustments along the way. I am currently down 39 lbs/17.7 kg and will soon be carefully transitioning into maintenance. I am so thankful for everyone who shared their story so I could navigate my IF journey. I share my story, hoping it will do the same and inspire someone else. Our Patreon Supporters Community Please consider joining the Fasting Highway Patreon community. Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
During the twelve months after a parent's death, Heaven forbid, or within thirty days of another family member's death, a person is forbidden from attending festive events. The question arises, however, as to whether one may attend during this period events that are a Misva, such as a Berit Mila, Pidyon Ha'ben, Hanukat Ha'bayit or Bar Misva. Hacham Ovadia Yosef (listen to audio recording for precise citation) rules that strictly speaking, it is permissible for a person during Abelut (mourning) to attend a Pidyon Ha'ben or Berit Mila celebration, provided that no music is played. One may even sit and eat at the festive meal. Hacham Ovadia applies this ruling also to a Siyum celebration and a Bar Misva celebration, though, as mentioned, a mourner's participation is allowed only if music is not played at the affair. However, he adds, a person observing Abelut may not attend a Sheba Berachot celebration, even if music is not played. Although this is the law according to the strict Halacha, Hacham Ovadia notes that many people follow the custom to forbid attendance at such celebrations during Abelut, even if no music is played. Instead, they attend the ceremony of the Pidyon Ha'ben, for example, or the circumcision, and perhaps take some food with them, but they do not sit down and eat with the other guests. This seems to be the practice in our community. It should be noted that even according to this custom, it is permissible for a person observing Abelut to attend a Hanukat Ha'bayit held on the occasion of moving into a new home. This event involves merely the reading of Pesukim, and is not especially festive, and there is thus no reason for a person not to attend such a function during Abelut. Hacham Ovadia also notes in this context that a person observing Abelut may be called to the Torah for one of the special Aliyot – Hatan Torah or Hatan Bereshit – on Simhat Torah. Summary: Strictly speaking, one is allowed during the thirty days of mourning after a family member's death, or the twelve month after a parent's death, to attend a Misva celebration such as a Pidyon Ha'ben or Berit Mila, provided that no music is played. Practically, however, the accepted practice in our community is to allow mourners to attend only the ceremony itself, but not to participate in the festive meal. Even according to this custom, one may attend a Hanukah Ha'bayit, and be called for Hatan Torah or Hatan Bereshit on Simhat Torah.

By Chrissy Carter I have struggled with my weight since I was a teenager; after school, when I started working, I started dieting. I lost weight and got pregnant with my first; I only put on 2kgs my whole pregnancy, and I was lighter after I had her. I spent my 20s either pregnant or breastfeeding. After four children, I thought I was done, so I returned to the gym and lost weight, eating six small meals daily. I then stopped working at the gym, stopped working out, and then got pregnant again. After I had my last daughter, I struggled again to lose the weight I would lose then gain. Doing all the things I knew. Then, my marriage ended abruptly, and my weight piled on. When I met my now husband, I was at my heaviest, 120kgs, despite my age and weight being against me. At 44, I became pregnant with our son. I lost 10kgs when I was pregnant with him. Towards the end of 2019, I started Keto and, over six months, lost 30kgs. Then, due to lots of stress and not having time to look after me, I put it all back on. Three months before my 50th birthday I decided to start fasting again, I eat whole foods in my eating window. I wanted to lose 10kgs before my birthday, but I lost 20. Over the next six months, I lost another 15 kgs and have kept that off within 3kg on either side. I have lowered my BP and dropped from a size 20 to a size 12. I am blessed to walk along the beach at least 12km daily, sometimes double that. I am so grateful to Graeme Currie and the Fasting Highway family, who keep me on track. On this edition of The Inside BS Show with The Godfather and Nicki G., Dave Lorenzo, and Nicola Gelormino discuss the seven steps to dominating a new market within 12 months. They emphasize the importance of identifying ideal clients and focusing on those who have the highest lifetime value. They also discuss the need to determine the huge problem that is costing these clients and create urgency around solving it. They stress the importance of giving clients hope and sharing the vision for the future. They also highlight the value of working with experts who have experience in solving these problems. Below are the notes from each step in the process:Step One: Identify the Ideal ClientsDave: Recap the qualifying process: money, problem, ability to make a decision Talk about leverage – getting in front of them in groups Focus on high lifetime value Nicola: For all of us, our ideal clients are entrepreneurs who have businesses with at least 5 million in annual revenue. Highlight how they meet the qualifying criteria Highlight the lifetime value (repeat and recurring revenue) Step Two: Determine What HUGE Problem Those Clients are Experiencing that Is KILLING ThemDave: This step can be tricky. People don't share problems they share symptoms of problems. We also need to find a problem that is common among the group It doesn't matter if some of them don't have the problem yet – just that they could have the problem if they are successful (even poor people don't like increasing estate taxes) Nicola: We have trouble getting in front of these entrepreneurs When we do get in front of them, we are poorly positioned and get squeezed on price We spend most of our time looking for referrals to these folks because we don't know how to position ourselves as subject matter experts. Step Three: Have the Clients Calculate HOW MUCH this Problem is Costing ThemDave:There are three costs to every situation: hard financial cost, emotional cost (sleepless nights), and opportunity cost. Get your prospective client to think about each of those. Nicola:How much is your time worth? How many hours do you spend each month networking with people who are not your ideal client? How much of that time is wasted? If you invested that same amount of time each month and landed two new clients, would that be better? Three? Step Four: Explore How Much Worse this Situation Can BecomeDave: We need to help the prospect develop the urgency necessary to solve this problem now. We must take them to the logical extreme in their mind so they understand what is possible They have to be able to see it and feel the potential impact Nicola: Attending dozens of networking meetings each month without connecting with one new real client is killing your business. Your competitors are signing new clients each week (the best are signing new clients each day) Yet here you are talking to people you HOPE will refer you. How long will you rely on hope as a strategy? Step Five: Give the Clients Hope by Sharing a Solution with ThemDave: In a perfect world, you'd learn what your ideal clients need, learn how to deliver a message that would resonate with them and you'd get in front of them to deliver that message as often as possible You'd have an expert guiding you, showing you shortcuts, and helping you refine your approach You'd have someone working hard to put you in front of your ideal clients Nicola: This is your chance to change everything for you, for your business, and for your life You have the opportunity to discover the secret to using leverage and the experience and knowledge of others to buy money at a discount Simply by coming to this breakfast, you've been taken behind the curtain and given a glimpse at the future of business coaching Step Six: Provide the Clients with enough Knowledge to Evaluate the Need for an ExpertDave: What do you need to know to evaluate a good opportunity? That the person offering it has authority, believability, and credibility? You'd also need to know that it will work for you – find people who look just like you. You need to know that if you only get it half right, the process will still deliver results Nicola: During the past 30 years, Dave has refined this system. He's used it to open three hotels and start two businesses. He's used it to win corporate political campaigns against Unions. He's used it to help connect all of us. Dave and I used this system (along with MCD and Lenny) to win over a crowd of 300 people at the ProVisors conference. I've worked with Dave to use this system effectively in my world – to become the GL of the Attorney Affinity Group and to connect with people who have become valuable to my practice. Step Seven: Share the Vision of the Future for the ProspectDave: Your prospective client needs to have a clear vision of the future after deciding to work with you The picture must be so compelling and the sense of relief so real that they cannot resist This is the answer they've been waiting for Nicola: I'm not telling you what to do. You make good decisions. You know the facts and you know the truth. Nothing changes until you make a decision and make a change. This is easy. Make the choice to join a team of people dedicated to your success make a choice to join a community of people dedicated to making your work fun again. Dave then recaps the seven steps and gives the audience the call to action to join ESL. Step 1: Get in front of your ideal clientsStep 2: Figure out what's killing themStep 3: Figure out how much this is costing themStep 4: How much worse can this get?Step 5: Hope: Share the SolutionStep 6: Give them the knowledge to evaluate the expertStep 7: Share the vision for the future
