Hope for Right Now: A Walking with Purpose Podcast

Join Lisa and Laura for our series Names of God. In biblical times, names were of great importance—they conveyed a person's essence, history, nature, or character. As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today's episode, we explore our fourth name, Jehovah Nissi—the Lord, my banner. This episode is for those times when you need a victory or a win—when it feels like the battle is going on and on and all you want to do is give up. Jehovah Nissi is who we call when we're in the trenches, the mud is past our ankles, and hope is out of focus. If you could use a banner of victory waving over your current circumstances, grab your Bible and join us in the conversation.  Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Exodus 17:15: And Moses built an altar and called the name of it, The Lord is my banner. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Exodus 17:8-15 Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Exodus 14:14: The Lord will fight for you, and you have only be still. Hebrews 12:2: Looking on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith. (Douay-Rheims) Solomon 2:4: His banner over me was love. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. In what area of your life do you need to call on Jehovah Nissi? Is there an action or fight you are being called to step into now? Which do you struggle with more: going to prayer or taking action? If you are not looking up to God as your source of power and deliverance, to what or whom are you looking? What banner are you beneath if not the banner of love? Show mentions. Share Hope for Right Now. For the last part of this series, join Pastor Byron Chicken in this thought provoking sermon with a study of Mark 5 verse 1 to 20.With the story of the man who was demon possessed and then set free, we focus on the town's attitude towards Jesus. They had gotten so comfortable with not facing their issues that when Jesus came cast those demons out of that man they chased Jesus away. Their focus was not on how Jesus saved that man and how He could save them as well but they chose to focus on the pigs. They put more value on the pigs than on the man, the miracle and Jesus.Unfortunately that is what sometimes we do, we chose to cast our troubles aside like how the town cast that man aside but as believers, we need to cast all our burdens to Jesus. He cares for us, He will set us free and He shows us mercy and compassion. In the same story we see how the man who was freed from demon possession chose to follow Jesus. He chose to focus on the one that redeemed Him and that should be our posture as believers. So are you the town or the man? Where is your focus?

In this thought provoking sermon join Pastor Megan as she highlights the importance of evangelism as a witness. We have all been called to ministry, we have been called to share the good news with the world. We are here to spread the Gospel and witness for Jesus and what He has done for us in our lives. However, that takes boldness. The things we go through in life are not to cripple us because God uses them for His glory, that is how we become witnesses. Being a witness means sharing what God has done is your life. It requires authenticity and a real relationship with God. We have called to share our lives, our testimony and bear witness to others and the only way we can do that is through lived experiences. That is how we are able to relate to others and we get to share Jesus with them.So are you a witness? Do you have a testimony?

As we continue with our series of Share Jesus, Share Hope, join Pastor Bruce as he expands on obedience and conviction. As believers we need to operate out of obedience and conviction. We know who we belong to and we know what He has called us to do, therefore we need to operate from that. Unfortunately sometimes as believers we get so comfortable in our comfort zones that we miss what God is calling us to do.We all have been called to be leaders and influences in our lives in some way, shape or form. Therefore, we need to trust in what God has called us to do and be obedient to what He says. Our conviction in who He is is what will keep us obedient to His ways and that's why it's important to get to know Him more, be in His word more.We must not let fear and comfort rule and dictate us.

Join Pastor Tammy in this new series as we Share Jesus and Share Hope. As believers, we need to share Jesus, as we grow in our faith, we must spread His word with others. However in order to do that we need to first go into ourselves. We first need to reflect on who and where we are. We can only share what we have - therefore if we have Jesus in us and we are able to bring forth fruits, then we ought to share Him with the world. We first need to reflect, discover ourselves, pay attention, hear God's voice and go.

Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. Is it the end of time? Well, I don't know! Only Jesus knows when that day is. But based on what we are seeing these days and what the Word of God says, I think it's likely that we're living in the end times. And if we are, you know, there's a lot of people who are sadly not headed toward Heaven. And I don't know about you, but I'm not ok with that! I (and I hope you too!) would say the same as Spurgeon...that if someone is going to hell, it would not be because they were unwarned or unprayed for. And it would not be without “our arms wrapped around their legs, begging them not to go.” We cannot keep the hope of the Gospel to ourselves! There is an urgency to share today. If our time is limited, let our goal be to pray for every person in our community by name and then share the Gospel with each and every one of them. For over three decades, Howard's business innovations, leadership principles, mentoring, and resilience in beating cancer against long odds have made him a sought-after speaker and consultant for businesses, nonprofits, congregations, and community groups. His hard-earned wisdom about resilience after beating cancer twice has led him to become a nationally known patient advocate and “cancer whisperer” to many families. Howard, his wife Lisa, and his daughter Emily currently reside in Michigan. ✨A few highlights from the show: 1. Medical technologies that played a role in Howard's recovery and expanding his family: bone marrow transplant, In vitro fertilization (IVF)/Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), scans to video, liquid biopsy, tumor burden, clinical trials, immunotherapy, and Interleukin-2 2. It is important that you, your loved ones or family, or a patient advocate ask about what medical technologies are available to treat the type of cancer that you have. As you can see from Howard's experience, there are many options that may help save your life and improve your quality of life. 3. Don't isolate yourself. Isolation brings darkness. 4. In the first half of the 20th century, Christianity in America was embattled by a controversy that seemed to pit two of the church's goals against one another: battling for souls versus battling for society. For the last one hundred years, churches have fought over whether it is more important to emphasize “Gospel proclamation” or “Gospel demonstration.” The fact that many churches outside of the United States have seemed to see no contradiction between saving souls and serving society did little to lower the temperature of the argument. What if the way of Jesus isn't “either/or” but “both/and”?

To share the life-transforming hope of Jesus is to share Jesus himself (the person and promises of Christ). How can we share this hope? The prayer in Romans 15:13 provides a starting point for how we can share the life-transforming hope of Jesus Christ. As we trust in the God of hope, he will fill us with all joy and peace so that we may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. We start with our actions but a watching world will have questions. When these questions come, we are called to respond to these questions with a reason for the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15). God calls us to provide an explanatory word about God's work in our lives. We are called to live "questionable lives" (lives that are called into question for good). This is a different kind of questionable life than how we normally use that description. In summary, as we revere (set aside) Christ as Lord in our hearts, the prayer of Romans 15:13 will be answered and take place. We should then ALWAYS be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks. We can share the life-transforming hope of Jesus Christ in this way and invite others to (re)consider this hope in their lives.
