Hope for Right Now Podcast – Truth with Handles: What to Do with Regret When you're navigating life's challenges, you don't need truth dumped all over you or shouted at you all at once; you need practical, faith-filled wisdom and Bible verses for everyday struggles. At Walking with Purpose, we call this “truth with handles”—biblical truths you can actually hold onto and provide relief from your pressure points. Each week during our six-week series, Truth with Handles, Laura shares a new topic with a corresponding Scripture passage, breaking it down into actionable, hope-filled steps to strengthen your faith and bring peace to your daily life. Today's topic: What to Do with Regret. Have you ever asked, “If only I could go back and do things over again”? Does a past mistake, word, or action keep you up at night? Are you haunted by past sin? If you are nodding your head “yes,” you are not alone. But did you know that there's a benefit to your regret and that God can use it? If you're tired of living in the past and ready to move forward, this episode is for you! Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Isaiah 43:18-19: Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Genesis 19:26: But Lot's wife behind him looked back, and she became a pillar of salt. Luke 17:32: Remember Lot's wife. Philippians 3:13-14: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. What do you need to forgive yourself for? What regret has you stuck in the past? What do you continue to look back at? REPENT! Join Lisa and Laura for Unshakable Identity. During these four weeks we look at four different aspects of our identity as women and the corresponding characteristics of our feminine genius. As daughter, it's sensitivity. As sister, it's generosity. As bride, it's receptivity. As mother, it's maternity. Our goal is that as we explore each of these, we will gain a better understanding of our true identity. In this final episode, Lisa and Laura dive into the fourth aspect of our identity: motherhood. You do not have to have biological children to be a mother, because mother is the very essence of femininity. We are all mothers and our maternity is a gift we are called to offer widely and generously. This is an episode for every woman longing to mother or be mothered. Open your Heart to our key Scripture. John 19:7: Behold, your Mother. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Ephesians 4:15: Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ. Luke 11:27: Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that you sucked! Luke 11:28: Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. What does "spiritual motherhood" mean to you? Have you had the experience of being a spiritual mother or have you been spiritually mothered? How might the Lord be calling you to cultivate a spiritual mothering presence in your community, whether it's within your church, workplace, or neighborhood? As daughter, it's sensitivity. As sister, it's generosity. As bride, it's receptivity. As mother, it's maternity. Our goal is that as we explore each of these, we will gain a better understanding of our true identity. Today, Lisa and Laura dive into what it means to be a bride. In the Old Testament, God is referred to as Israel's divine husband, and in the New Testament, Jesus is described as the Church's bridegroom. What is experienced corporately, we can also experience personally, because of the intimate love God has for each one of us. Do you thirst to be loved? Of course you do! The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. Ephesians 5:25: Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Matthew 9:14–15: Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them?” John 3:29: He who has the bride is the bridegroom; the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice; therefore this joy of mine is now full. Revelation 22:17: The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let him who hears say, “Come.” And let him who is thirsty come, let him who desires take the water of life without price. Join Lisa and Laura as we kick off a brand new series, Unshakable Identity. Over the next four weeks we will be looking at four different aspects of our identity as women and the corresponding characteristics of our feminine genius. As daughter, it's sensitivity. As sister, it's generosity. As bride, it's receptivity. As mother, it's maternity. Our goal is that as we explore each of these, we will gain a better understanding of our true identity. Today, Lisa and Laura dive into what it means to be a daughter, and explore all the things that get in the way of embracing the truth of who we are. Listen in and learn about false identities, distorted images of God, and the seemingly simple question that so many of us struggle to get right: Who am I? Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Mark 1:11: You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Galatians 3:26: For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. Romans 5:8: But God shows His love for us that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Reflect on: Who am I? Meditate on Mark 1:11 and imagine the voice of the Father declaring over your life that you are His beloved child. Can you embrace this truth? Are you able to rest in your true, God-given identity? Or is this hard to believe? If it's hard, you are most likely finding your identity from a voice other than God's. Join Lisa and Laura for the final episode in our series Names of God. In biblical times, names were of great importance—they conveyed a person's essence, history, nature, or character. As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today's episode, we explore our seventh name, Jehovah Jireh—my provider. The word for provide, “jireh," in the Old Testament, means to see. When God sees, He foresees. Our all-knowing, ever-present, eternal Father knows the end from the beginning and so in His omniscience, He provides. But what about when God asks us to do things that don't make sense? When what is happening looks like the opposite of His provision—a contradiction to what He promised? This is what today's episode is about, and you do not want to miss it. Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Genesis 22:1–19 Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Hebrews 11:19: He considered that God was able to raise men even from the dead. 2 Chronicles 3:1: Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. Hebrews 10:4–5: For since it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins … but a body you have prepared for me. Genesis 22:3: So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac; and he cut the wood for the place of which God had told him. Genesis 39:23: The Lord was with him and whatever he did, the Lord made it prosper. Hebrews 11:8–22 John 16:33: I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Are you willing to let go? Are you willing to trust God completely, even with your Isaac? What is your Isaac? Bonus question: What can you do to avoid defining God based only on His gifts to you? Show mentions. The Stanley Cup has been awarded (not to Corey Perry - again), and the NHL offseason has officially begun. Tune in as we open by discussing Patrick Kane's future with the Detroit Red Wings, Kane and Steve Yzerman both expressing mutual interest in Showtime continuing in Hockeytown, Toronto Maple Leafs fans setting themselves up for disappointment hoping he's a Mitch Marner replacement, how Kane fits with Alex DeBrincat, Marco Kasper, Dylan Larkin, and Lucas Raymond, & more (4:15). After that, we discuss potential depth forward targets for Steve Yzerman, including former Detroit Red Wings like Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou, Pius Suter, Robby Fabbri, & more to add to Todd McLellan's squad (16:15). How can the league copy Paul Maurice's squad when they have guys like Barkov, (Conn Smythe winning) Sam Bennett, Marchand, Tkachuk, and Bobrovsky? (36:25) Finally, NHL news including Troy Terry maybe being available from the Anaheim Ducks (alongside John Gibson?), upcoming CBA news (56:10), and our 2025 NHL Draft Prospect Profile as we revisit Jackson Smith (1:01:15) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:10:50) - enjoy! Is Aaron Ekblad the answer for Detroit's blue line? Tune in as we discuss whether the Florida Panthers defenseman should be Steve Yzerman's target in NHL free agency to help Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johansson, and future Axel Sandin Pellikka defend in Hockeytown, how Vladislav Gavrikov compares as a free agency target, whether Dante Fabbro and other pieces could be a viable alternative, and if Yzerman should focus on Marner, Ehlers, Marchand, or others on offense to help Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat, Kasper, Kane, and the forwards (4:20). Next, we discuss reports of Yzerman being interested in improving the Red Wings goalie situation, where they stand now in terms of Cam Talbot, Petr Mrazek, Alex Lyon, Sebastian Cossa, Trey Augustine, and others in the pipeline, and whether someone like John Gibson or Thatcher Demko could be a worthwhile target (32:30). After that, Stanley Cup Finals updates as Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand, and the Florida Panthers are dominating Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and the Edmonton Oilers (42:30), NHL trade and free agency updates including J.J. Peterka, Kreider and Zibanejad, Isaac Howard, Karlsson, & more rumors (49:45), and finally our revisit on Kashawn Aitcheson as our 2025 NHL Entry Draft Prospect Profile series continues (59:40). Join Lisa and Laura for our series Names of God. In biblical times, names were of great importance—they conveyed a person's essence, history, nature, or character. As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today's episode, we explore our sixth name, Jehovah Shammah—the Lord is There. This is a great name of God to call on when you feel like everything is dark, when you feel hopeless, when you feel unbearably alone or abandoned. It's also good for those times when you feel stuck, or even imprisoned, by hard circumstances. If you are nodding your head to any of this, grab your Bible (a notepad and pen aren't a bad idea either) because this is the episode for you! Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Revelation 21:3: He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Deuteronomy 4:37: By his Presence and his great strength. (NIV) Book of Ezekiel John 16:7: It is better for you that I go. 2 Chronicles 5:13–14: The house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God. Romans 12:2: Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may demonstrate what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Isaiah 63:9: In all their affliction he was afflicted. Psalm 34:18: The Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Do I believe that Jehovah Shammah empathizes with me? Do I believe that the things that trouble me also trouble Him? If the answer is no, ask the Lord to reveal why. Why don't I believe? What is the wound keeping me from recognizing Your presence? (Do this reflection in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, if possible!) Ask the Lord, do the things that trouble me trouble You? And sit in silence and listen to Him speak to you. Show mentions. Heart of Vines Summer Book Club starting in July! It's 2025 NHL Entry Draft Rankings time! Tune in as we begin by going over 1st round draft rankings (who will Steve Yzerman have available for the Detroit Red Wings at 13th overall?) from both Brad Krysko and newest WWP contributor, "LGRWProspects" (Zak Egan - check out his full rankings here: https://www.wingedwheelpodcast.com/post/2025-nhl-draft-rankings) - rankings listed below. (3:35) We then discuss whether it's better for Yzerman to trade the 13th overall pick to move up or get help on forward for Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat, Kasper, and Kane, or on defense to aid Seider, Edvinsson, Sandin Pellikka, and Johansson (18:15). After that, Vladimir Tarasenko's name being on the trade block, an update on Dmitri Buchelnikov, and more goaltending depth behind Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine added to the system (25:50). Next, an update on the Stanley Cup Final as Bennett, Tkachuk, and Paul Maurice's Panthers sent McDavid, Draisaitl, Bouchard, and the Oiler off the deep end in game 3 (35:55). Then, NHL awards updates as Lane Hutson wins the Calder and Cale Makar wins the Norris (45:45) and a look at the NHL trade and free agency landscape, as names like Jason Robertson, Alexis Lafreniere, Bowen Byram, K'Andre Miller, William Karlsson, and many more are floating around (51:45). The Detroit Red Wings have Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johansson, Axel Sandin Pellikka, and others in their homegrown blue line talent - but is this enough to be competitive for the Stanley Cup, or does Steve Yzerman need to add a Gavrikov, Ekblad, or K'Andre Miller to bolster things? How big is the defense's holes compared to the offensive help needed for Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and Marco Kasper (maybe in the form of Mitch Marner) (4:45)? Also, updates on the Red Wings' current and former coaches, including Derek Lalonde going to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Jay Varady headed to the Phildelphia Flyers (19:20). Next, a Stanley Cup Final update as Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and the Edmonton Oilers are in an incredibly tight series against Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Bennett, and the Florida Panthers (23:20). After that, NHL trade rumor updates, including thoughts on potential 2025 NHL Draft order trades (to try to get Matthew Schaefer, Michael Misa, or James Hagens), Dahlin, Peterka, Quinn Hughes, and more in a chaotic start to the offseason (28:35). As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today's episode, we explore our fifth name, Jehovah Sabaoth—the Lord of Hosts or the God of the armies of Israel. The word “sabaoth” is used to refer to a host of angels or a celestial army. It's the name we can turn to when we feel like we are under spiritual attack or we are utterly at the end of our resources. Can you relate? We thought so. Could the latest Detroit Red Wings star be from Russia - and is he on his way? Tune in as we discuss the news of Dmitri Buchelnikov's Vityaz team in the KHL potentially dissolving, meaning he would be free to join the Grand Rapids Griffins and/or the Detroit Red Wings sooner than expected - what would that mean for other prospects like Brandsegg-Nygard (3:55)? Also, Steve Yzerman signing Jesse Kiiskinen to his entry-level contract, and what's next for the Finnish star (15:10). In today's episode, we explore our third name, Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals. The word “rapha” often refers to physical healing in Scripture, but it has a more expansive meaning, too, involving the entire person. Jehovah Rapha doesn't just heal the body. He heals the mind and soul. In a world desperate for healing, this is an episode you do not want to miss. Grab your Bible and invite a friend to listen. We all need Jehovah Rapha! Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Exodus 15:26: If you will listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the LORD who heals you. Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Exodus 3:13–14: Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, ‘What is his name?' what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” Psalm 22:14–15: I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaves to my jaws; you lay me in the dust of death. Exodus 15:22–27 Romans 8:22: We know that all creation has been groaning with labor pains together until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait for the adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. Romans 5:5: Hope does not disappoint us. Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. Are you in the place between devastated hope and deliverance? Bring your heart to Jehovah Rapha and ask, what does He want to reveal and what He is longing to heal? Is it a physical illness? Sin? Trauma? Childhood wound? Unforgiveness? Show mentions. The Detroit Red Wings need help scoring, but we all know that Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, and the Red Wings blue line desperately needs help defending as well. Tune in as we discuss some key candidates for Steve Yzerman to target in free agency or trade to help Detroit's defense alongside Seider, Edvinsson, Johansson, Chiarot & Co., including the Los Angeles Kings' Vladislav Gavrikov and the Buffalo Sabres' Bowen Byram - are they worth targeting over a Mitch Marner, Sam Bennett, or other forwards to help Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, & the rest of Hockeytown's offense? What would they cost and how does the rising salary cap benefit Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings? (5:05) After that, an update on Marco Kasper, Lucas Raymond, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, and the rest of the Detroit Red Wings at the IIHF World Championships (36:05) before jumping into NHL news, including a breakdown of the Leafs imploding as usual against Brad Marchand and the Panthers, thoughts on Matthews, Marner, Knies, and Tavares, as well as Stanley Cup Playoffs Conference Finals predictions as McDavid and the Oilers take on Rantanen and the Stars in the West, and Bobrovsky and the Panthers take on Svechnikov and the Hurricanes in the East (40:15). Finally, our 2025 NHL Draft Prospect Profile on Lynden Lakovic and whether he reminds Red Wings fans of Michael Rasmussen or Anthony Mantha (1:02:45). Amidst the chaos going on with the Toronto Maple Leafs (sorry to Steve Dangle), Detroit Red Wings fans are steeped in a somewhat connected debate: should Steve Yzerman go after Mitch Marner this offseason, or would Hockeytown be better off spending the big dollars elsewhere? Tune in as we give our analysis, compare Marner to options like Gavrikov and Knies in terms of how they'd help Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Lucas Raymond, Moritz Seider, Simon Edvinsson & Co., & what he would make compared to the likes of Mikko Rantanen (4:45). Also, updates on Detroit Red Wings at the World Championships, as Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Marco Kasper, Eduards Tralmaks, Lucas Raymond, Simon Edvinsson, and Erik Gustafsson roll on, as well as notes on Viking Gustafsson Nyberg and Maxime Comtois (27:30). Next, Stanley Cup Playoffs updates, as Brind'Amour's Hurricanes make easy work of Ovechkin and the Capitals, Connor McDavid and the Oilers move on again, the Dallas Stars beat the Jets in an emotional affair as Scheifele fights through tragedy, and the Leafs & Panthers are steeped in another hilariously dramatic series (35:50). Also, former Detroit Red Wings head coach is potentially joining Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks (47:40). Finally, our 2025 NHL Draft Prospect Profile on Justin Carbonneau of the QMJHL: how does he compare to Kasper, Danielson, and Brandsegg-Nygard, do the Red Wings need another player like him or should they swing for more upside, and does he fit the "Steve Yzerman mould"? Join Lisa and Laura for our series Names of God. In biblical times, names were of great importance—they conveyed a person's essence, history, nature, or character. As we explore the various names of God in the Old Testament, we gain insight into His character. With each name, we will learn a new attribute, deepening our understanding of and growing closer to God. In today's episode, we explore our second name, El Shaddai, which comes from two Hebrew words, “El,” the singular word for God, and Shaddai, meaning “Almighty” or “All-Sufficient.” Do you believe that God is your Sustainer and has the power to show up in impossible situations and work miracles? Or do you take matters into your own hands when it looks like God isn't coming through on His promises? Today's conversation is one of our favorites, and you are encouraged to grab a cold drink, your Bible, settle in, and receive the truth you desperately need to hear: God can do the impossible. Open your Heart to our key Scripture. Genesis 17:1: When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless." Open your Bible to other Scriptures referenced in this episode. Genesis 12:1–2: Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.” Genesis 15:2–3: “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring; and a slave born in my house will be my heir.” Genesis 15:4: “This man shall not be your heir; your own son shall be your heir.” Genesis 16 Genesis 17 Genesis 18:12–14: So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?” The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, and say, 'Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?' Is anything too hard for the Lord?” Genesis 18:15: But Sarah denied saying, “I did not laugh”; for she was afraid. And He said, “No, but you did laugh.” Genesis 22 Romans 4:18–21: In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations; as he had been told, “So shall your descendants be.” He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead because he was about a hundred years old, or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah's womb. No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. Psalm 91:1–2: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” Invite Him in with this episode's questions for reflection. How is God calling you to trust Him as El Shaddai? Look at that area of life where He is asking you to trust Him and ask yourself whether there's a root of bitterness in your heart because you feel He is taking too long. Show mentions. The question that comes up every year: should Steve Yzerman trade the Detroit Red Wings' 1st round draft pick for more immediate help? Or potentially Konecny, or dreams of a superstar like David Pastrnak (17:45). With the Detroit Red Wings season post-mortem well-documented, we take a look at what Steve Yzerman's top priority should be for Hockeytown this offseason: getting scoring help for Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane, and Marco Kasper in the form of Marner, Ehlers, Bennett, or Marchand? Defensive support for Mortiz Seider, Simon Edvinsson, and Albert Johansson by way of Gavrikov? Goaltending solution other than Talbot or Mrazek? (4:30) We also take a look at Isaac Howard of the Tampa Bay Lightning and whether he would be worth trading for, or if Danielson, Brandsegg-Nygard, Mazur or others are the solution for the Detroit Red Wings (16:15). The Detroit Red Wings offseason changes have already begun, with more potentially on the way. Tune in as we're joined by Max Bultman of The Athletic Detroit (and Winged Wheel Podcast contributor) on this episode, opening by discussing the report that Todd McLellan, Steve Yzerman, and the Red Wings have moved on from goaltending coach Alex Westlund, and how this relates to Hockeytown's issues in net over the years: can new coaching help, or is the rotating group of Cam Talbot, Petr Mrazek, Alex Lyon, and others to blame? How does this affect Sebastian Cossa coming up (with Trey Augustine a ways away) (3:40)? Next, Max offers his thoughts on Steve Yzerman's biggest holes and offseason tasks to help the Red Wings roster: what support does Detroit need for Dylan Larkin, Patrick Kane, Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, and Marco Kasper at forward - like Mitch Marner or Nikolaj Ehlers? Do they need to prioritize a defenseman to help Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson - like Gavrikov? Can Nate Danielson, Carter Mazur, Axel Sandin Pellikka, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, or others be the answer (9:35)? After that, a comprehensive NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs update, including Tom Wilson and Josh Anderson in a lively bench brawl between Washington and Montreal, the Leafs dominating Tkachuk's Senators, the Lightning and Panthers trading majors (and Cooper and Maurice exchanging banter) in the Battle of Florida, Connor Hellebuyck collapsing for the Winnipeg Jets, TNT not calling games in person, & plenty more (29:25). We then get into our 2025 NHL Draft Prospect Profile on Cameron Reid: can the Kitchener Rangers defenseman be of interest for the Red Wings, or is someone like Aitcheson or Smith for attractive for Steve Yzerman and Detroit, who will want more size (1:02:45)?
