Lent is the Christian season of preparation before Easter (40 days). Traditionally, Lent is a time for prayer, fasting, and generosity. This Lenten Season, Wellington Heights Community Church invites you to join us in a communal commitment to disconnect from screens to set aside the time we often turn to screens for distraction or engage in a constant stream of information to realign our hearts and minds with God. Consider downloading a free PDF of the Disconnect40 Guide on the WHCC website or pick-up a copy this Sunday at 10 AM as we gather on the 1st Sunday of Lent.
On this Mother's Day, we give thanks to God for the divine gift of motherhood in all its diverse forms. Mothering is a gift to our community providing regeneration, healing, hope and community building. We recognize this day can be complex and filled with grief, disappointment and loneliness. May God's Spirit be with each of you wherever you may find yourself this morning. A special thank you to all who celebrated and shared their time yesterday at the 4th Annual Mother's Day Weekend Event - where we celebrated mother's with free professional family photos and a meal from Carribean Kitchen Food Truck. A special shoutout to JSA for partnering with us to utilize their space and creating a community art project together! As we gather separate yet together in Spirit, I invite you to settle in, take a deep breathe as we pray together. This Prayer is written by Cole Arthur Riley, from their book Black Liturgies God our Mother, We thank you for grounding your character in the tenderness, protection and even sorrow of a mother. To know that no human experience - mother or child - is far from you gives us permission to uncover the particularities of how we were made to love and be loved. On this day, we're reminded that we do not begin with ourselves. Our beauty, our pain, do not exist in a vacuum but are tethered to those who've come before us. We pray for the mothers who have protected us, who are weary, who have stayed, who have left, who are grieving, who are proud- understanding that the story of what it means to be a mother is not singular. And as children, would you remind us that it is okay to lament the ways we have not been loved well, while also celebrating the miracle and mystery of those who loved us fiercely. We are made of more than us. Help us to behold it. Amen. And now may we pray this prayer of Blessing over all those who are mothering in all of its diverse forms written by Pastor Stephanie Gracious God, On this Mother's Day, we give thanks to God for the divine gift of motherhood in all its diverse forms. Bless the women who care for and nurture others by leading people and communities toward hope Loving God, look gently upon mothers of newborn and young children, give them energy, patience and gentleness in these fleeting days of sticky hands, messy houses and ever flowing laundry. Bless mothers who are raising school aged children and teenagers, give them peace and joy in parenting in moments that seem both hard and wonderful all at the same time Bless mothers who from afar watch and wonder about their adult children, give them perspective and wisdom as their children make choices. Bless those who are stepping in as a mother-figure in numerous ways to those around them. Bless those who have chosen not to be mother's and may feel shame or misunderstanding from our society. Healing God, comfort all those who mourn the absence of their mother today from death or illness or because of broken and challenging relationships. Comfort those who had hoped to be mothers, but have been unable to do so and those who continue to hope to become mothers. Ever present God, embrace and comfort those mothers who mourn over the loss of their own children. Gracious God, help us to recognize all the women who have guided us and loved us like mothers, shining forth as an example of the deepness of the love you offer to all people. Bless us and keep us today in that love and always. In your name we pray. Amen. See you next Sunday as we celebrate Graduating Seniors and Pentecost Sunday together as a community at the WHCC building. Your presence and encouragement is appreciated as we gather to pray for and honor the graduating seniors among us. Have a Happy mothers day and a great rest of your day!

Empower each of us to find our place In the movements of God's Spirit at work happening among us. Grant that we may know ourselves and each other well, Encouraging each other to flourish. Give to those who share their time, effort, and resources, Rest and renewal, Purpose and energy Support and connection, Joy and flourishing. For each person who joins in Your work among us, We thank you. For each person who contributes as they are able, We thank you. For each person who understands the weight of the work of Justice, We thank you. For each person who must, at various times, rest and receive the community's love, We thank you. Tangray and Kylie, members of the Wellington Heights community, are residents and cherished neighbors who reside in close proximity to Wellington Heights Community Church (WHCC). With their long standing in the neighborhood, they have not only borne witness to the remarkable transformation of the WHCC building but have actively participated in its renovation. The impact of Tang and Kylie, alongside their family and the dedicated WHCC staff, has fostered a profound sense of camaraderie and mutual benefit within the community. Their rapport with Pastor Keeyon exemplifies this sentiment as they collectively narrate the tale of interdependence and shared prosperity. Their aspiration is to continue the creation of enduring neighborly connections and bonds they have forged.
Now more than ever we need to hear the voices among us who are faithfully calling the Church and world to peace, justice, reconciliation and hope. The voices among us are strong and compelling, while also humble and gracious. The Stories Among Us sermon series will give us a broader insight into what God is doing among us and inspire us to live out our calling as God's people more fully in our lives. May these stories expand our understanding of who God is as we learn from their journeys of faith. Marianne Abel-Lipschutz and her husband Harry work as farmers in Cedar Falls, Iowa and serve as advocates for children and families in Guatemala. Hearing the testimony of Dr. John Perkins and other presenters at a NE Iowa CCDA conference in Waterloo in 2016 inspired Marianne to seek her place in the beloved community and come alongside others in faith no matter where she lives. She has facilitated a monthly prayer team online for WHCC since October 2020. Marianne has also published nonfiction and features about faith and the humanities in a variety of journals.
What is Easter? Easter is one of the central holidays, or Holy Days, of Christianity. It honors the resurrection of Jesus three days after His death by crucifixion. For many Christian churches, Easter is the joyful conclusion to the Lenten season of devoted prayer, fasting, and penitence. Our mission at Wellington Heights Community Church is to be a multi-ethnic community joining God in the reconciliation of all things through worship, reconciliation, and neighborhood development. Share your thoughts via voice memo, and we may feature you on a WHCC future podcast! Visit https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wellingtonheightschurch/message to leave us a message.

If I were to point to one thing in my business that led me to tremendous success, it was fully dedicating myself to providing my clients with the best experience possible. Do you have a hard time with failure? Does the thought of failing hold you back from the things you most want to do?Jeff and I would say 'yes' to both of those questions. And we're tired of it. In this episode, we talk about the big area in our business that we feel is an utter failure right now - and we wrestle with giving it up or not. We want to reclaim our relationship with failing and stop it from holding us back, so we call our good friend and mentor, Dane Sanders, to help us reframe how we relate to the idea of failure. In this episode, we discover what failure really means, how a strong person handles failure well, and how failure might have less to do with failing and more to do with our capacity for risk.... and our addiction to success. An inquiry comes through the website into Tave.2.Renee sends out a template email to the potential client with her signature Senior Portrait Magazine that includes all the pricing and information and frequently asked questions, along with links for her site and instagram (and highlights) with all the information of how and why Renee does what she does. It’s a gateway into knowing who she is - as well as sharing pricing.3. After a few emails/follow up, they're booked. This process can be automated, but Renee prefers to have a little dialogue with the client beforehand; and helps them figure out which session would be best for them.4. Once booked, Renee sends a physical Welcome Packet (includes a digital copy as well) that includes samples announcements, branded swag, and album ordering information - the most important thing here being the How To Prep info (what to wear/what to expect with hair/makeup, etc.) - A few weeks before the session, she sends out an email preparing them for the session. This includes information on what to wear, a hair and makeup guide, and any additional session information.5. The in-person ordering session is also scheduled and on the calendar.6. On the day of the shoot, hair and makeup are provided. While getting hair and makeup done, Renee is looking through the outfits the client brought, deciding which would look best at each location.7. On the evening of the session, Renee will send out a thank you email with a sneak peak and a review request while the emotion of the day is still very fresh in everyone’s minds.8. On the day of the in-person ordering session, Renee requests the parents to be present to make the major decisions (she encourages them to be present through the whole experience to enjoy the images as much as the senior) - all this communication is via email and very detailed.9. Renee walks them through the ordering and the final order is placed that day.10. Today Vicki Taufer tells about what is working now in her business. Vicki has been in the industry almost 20 years now. She focuses on artistic portraiture, located in Morton, Illinois (pumpkin capital of the world). Vicki teaches internationally and values work life balance. Work life balance constantly changes and just being aware of trying to be balanced is important. She went from 300 sessions/year, 9 employees, to Vicki being the only full time employee and being more hands on. Now Vicki goes into the client’s home and does design work, producing some of their highest sales over the past 20 years. “I’m working smarter, not harder” Vicki is hopeful about our industry as she’s getting higher sales than ever, offering full service experiences clients aren’t getting elsewhere. Doing things you can’t duplicate with snapshots on phones gives clients things they are willing to pay for. Vicki tells us about what it was like starting their business 20 years ago, and what to do and not do. She received the advice “hire slowly, fire quickly” and highly recommends following that advice. She also talks about how much more profitable in person sales are than online sales and not leaving money on the table as the client doesn’t know what their images will look like large on their walls if you don’t show them. Speaker 2: [00:05] Welcome to from nothing to profit, a photographer’s podcast with Matt and Kia where each week they talk to photographers about what is working in their business now so you can swipe those ideas and grow your business faster. Good morning everyone. Kia: [00:22] We are so excited that you are here. It may not be morning where you are, but it is where we are and we are interviewing one of my favorite people in the world today. Her name is Vicky topher and she has been involved in the photography industry for almost 20 years now. She focuses on artistic portraiture and loves to photograph people, pets and she does a lot of commercial shoots as well. She is located in Morton, Illinois right now, although she shoots all over the country and she has a passion for people. Her camera journey has taken her all over the world and if you follow her you’ll see that she’s taught internationally, traveled internationally, and her goal right now is a healthy work life balance and I bet you that that’s something that we’re going to talk quite a bit about.
