With Halloween on the near horizon, there's nothing like an iconic scary movie to spooktacularly enhance that holiday mood. Lili's energy in these endeavors is tireless, and an international upbringing, as well as a familiarity with being an immigrant in her own teen years, provides a range of understanding that is unique and invaluable in both her private and group practices. As she notes, "It's all about trust." For a look at the scope of Lili's work, and a bit of timely advice on grief management, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with her to talk about the nature of loss, the forms it can take, and the passion Lili has for her profession. WBOI Artcentric is brought to you by WBOI's own Julia Meek and Ben Clemmer. Our theme music is “Me voy pal campo'' by KelsiCote. Our administrative assistant is Olivia Fletter. The filibuster has changed a lot since its use was dramatized in 1939. In such a closely divided Washington, discussions of priorities and the agenda of the party in power are often accompanied by a discussion of the filibuster. Should it be reformed or removed? If so, how would this happen? How has the filibuster been used in the history of the Senate? Fort Wayne author, Mary Ann Cain, has written a new book devoted to the life of Chicago artist and activist Margaret Burroughs. The saga, which traces Margaret's cultural contributions within her beloved southside Bronzeville neighborhood, also documents the history of the cultural renaissance Chicago enjoyed in the 20th century, which as Cain notes, "followed directly on the heels of the Harlem Renaissance." The work will be launched and celebrated locally on February 8th, with a multimedia celebration at the United Arts Center. WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with the author to learn the lasting impact Burroughs has made on her community, what Margaret's friendship meant to Cain, and how the story is being unfolded. WBOI Artcentric is brought to you by WBOI's own Julia Meek and Ben Clemmer. Our theme music is “Me voy pal campo'' by KelsiCote. Our administrative assistant is Olivia Fletter. Fort Wayne area artist, Joel Fremion, has more than three hundred major "paintings" to his credit, and his medium of choice for all of them is fabric. This very tactile artwork is an intricate blend of fabric and leather that is further enhanced with painted details. The result is a cleverly complex image, sometimes mistaken for paint at first sight, that intrigues and pleases art lovers and artists alike. For a close-up look at the artist and his off-beat methods, WBOI's Julia Meek joined up with him to talk about how this technique evolved, his local artist series, and the satisfaction he derives from this passion-turned-profession. WBOI Artcentric is brought to you by WBOI's own Julia Meek and Ben Clemmer. Our theme music is “Me voy pal campo'' by KelsiCote. Our administrative assistant is Olivia Fletter. John Kearns may not be here this week, but we eventually replace him with an All-CAA talent, so that's a win in our book. First though, Brendan and Cameron catch up before pivoting to discuss the Tribe men's recruiting outlook this summer (3:19). We go through the offers extended by the team thus far and give our takes on W&M's biggest needs in the 2022 recruiting class. After that, we briefly answer listener questions (14:35) -- except for transfer-adjacent ones, which will be their own episode. Then, Tribe star Sydney Wagner joins the program for an interview about her increased role, the team's decision to opt out, and her different nicknames (22:42). We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we did!Have a question for for us on the pod? Fire it over to brendan@nobidnation.com or tweet at us @NoBidNation. Visit the blog at nobidnation.com.
