The Lies We've Been Told About Grief Episode Description: In this eye-opening episode of Healing Starts with the Heart, grief specialist Sharon Brubaker confronts the damaging lies we've all been told about grief. From childhood, we are handed false beliefs like: • “Don't feel bad” • “Be strong” • “Time will heal” • “You should get over it” Sharon dives deep into how these messages have distorted our understanding of grief and often cause us to suppress or deny the pain we're carrying. She shares her own personal experience with the grief that no one warned her about, and how unlearning these toxic myths led her on a path of true healing. If you've ever felt like your grief didn't fit into the tidy boxes society sets for it, this episode is a must-listen. Sharon invites you to release the shame and guilt tied to these lies, offering a new, empowering perspective on what it truly means to grieve and heal. Key Points Discussed: The Lies We've Been Taught About Grief Why pretending to be “strong” and “moving on” can actually hold us back from healing. How Grief Should Really Be Handled Understanding grief as a personal journey that requires space, time, and the willingness to feel deeply. The Cost of Suppressing Grief How ignoring your grief can lead to long-term emotional pain, and why it's crucial to face it head-on. Grief as a Journey, Not a Destination Grief doesn't follow a timeline, and healing doesn't mean you “get over it.” It means you learn to live with it. Journal Questions for Reflection: What lies about grief have you been told or have believed? How do you feel when others tell you to “move on” or “be strong”? What would it look like if you gave yourself permission to grieve openly and without judgment? Join the Journey: Grief doesn't follow a simple, linear path, but Sharon is here to help you navigate it with compassion. You matter, my friend. You've pushed through your feelings time and time again. You've proven that you can hurt and still get stuff done. But a day will come when a new loss will bring a landslide of emotions that takes you by surprise. As strong people. we have a belief that we should be able to handle this on our own. I know, I did that for decades. And it took it's toll. I shoved my emotions down, kept pushing through and piled up a ton of resentment. It had an effect on how I engaged with my business, decreased my productivity and got in the way of being present for life. All it took was 1 celebrity death to send me spiraling down. It didn't make sense at the time. When my Dad died, it was the catalyst I needed to finally get help. In this very special episode, I introduce you to my grief coach, Wendy Sloneker. Wendy has a very effective process and personality that helped me finally say "Goodbye to Pain", including a beautiful release of my former self. Weather you experienced a loss through death, divorce, breakup, estrangement, physical health loss, aging loss, loss of trust or self identity changes, Wendy's process can help you. Hibby Bartlett is the founder of The World Love Bank App, a platform that allows users to share and receive audio messages of love and support. She is also a mom of three and a self-described "conscious, self-aware person."Hibby Bartlett is the founder of The World Love Bank App, a platform that allows users to share audio recordings of themselves saying "I love you." She came up with the idea for the app when she was going through a tough time in her own life and realized that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for someone is simply telling them that we love them. The app is a way for people to share that love with others anonymously, and Bartlett hopes that it will help people heal from loss by being intentional and connecting with others. In this episode, you will explore:1. The journey of healing from loss, and how being intentional can lead to starting that process.2. The concept of the World Love Bank app, and how it can help people heal emotionally.3. “Asking ‘why?' is a valid question for a period, but it's not a place you want to live. You have to make a conscious decision not to live in that place.” -Phil Cohen All of us have experienced loss- whether it's a person, a job, a relationship, or a property. And we know so well that there's no way to describe the intensity of the pain we have to go through. During the grieving process, we see everything in black and the question of 'why?' only made it worse. We seek answers to make sense of what happened, but there's nothing. Eventually, we drown in grief and can't seem to get out . Therefore, it's important to understand that grief isn't something we can just get over with. It's a natural, healthy response to loss. It may feel like we'll never be able to move on, but if we let ourselves get stuck in that place, our loss will only have more power over us. It often takes a long time and a lot of effort to move forward— we just have to be patient. We remember, we grieve, we heal— but we don't have to do all of those things at once. The day Phil Cohen lost his son was also the day he almost lost himself. Every single day of the search and rescue operation was filled with anguish and also hope that his son, Perry, who was only 14 at that time, would be safe and alive. The darkest days eventually came when he was told that his son might never be found again. To a parent, this would be a death sentence. Years later, we see Phil still remembering every moment of that day- but no longer with a heavy heart, but as a man with passion and sincerity. Listen in as Phil and I talk about where we can catch a gleamer of hope when we feel we can never recover from our pain, the unspoken truths about grief, the 3 R's of healing (Reflect, Repair, React), how we can surpass the stage of acceptance and live our purpose, and a fine lesson about weathering the storms from cows and buffaloes. Bible teacher Angie Smith shares about the power of God's healing, including the lessons and the gifts He revealed to her through the loss of her daughter, Audrey, and other traumas she faced in her life. Angie opens up about her confusion when it came to the Bible, and how tools like The Jesus Storybook Bible helped her understand it as one cohesive book of love that she is a part of. Quotes “In our lives, there are those moments where you think, This is me at my worst and you're going to leave me if you see it, you're not going to be able to handle it, and you're going to realize that I am a fraud or that I am not worth it. And I think that in the same way we can have those experiences with God where it's like, ‘Wow, if you can see this in me, you'll never leave me, and He never has.'” - Angie Smith “I think over the years, as you develop a relationship with Christ, at least for me, I sort of start to get used to the fact that it's okay for there to be ebbs and flows and different seasons in your relationship with Jesus.” - Angie Smith “It's okay if I'm angry with God. He can handle that. Like, all of heaven is not shaking because I have a moment where I'm angry that something is happening or that I can't stop crying about something or that I'm struggling. Part of me learned how to release emotion to Him without the fear that it would be too much for Him.” - Angie Smith “The Lord is oftentimes performing miracles in places we can't see.” - Angie Smith Angie Smith's LinksAngie Smith's Website Angie Smith's Facebook Angie Smith's Instagram Resources Mentioned in This EpisodeVanderbilt University Connect with Sally Lloyd-JonesJesus Storybook Bible Facebook Jesus Storybook Bible Instagram Sally's website Sally's Facebook Sally's Instagram *Episode produced by Four Eyes Media*

Many times loss is the result of a particular stratagem of Satan to get you to STOP action, or to DISCOURAGE you from going forward. There can be as many types of loss as there are activities or relationships in which we are involved. This message will help you to receive HEALING FROM LOSS so that you can recover it all ... and more. Hard times are many times a sign that you are entering a NEW dimension of service to God … AND blessing: for YOU and for the people you will be serving. _____________________________________ HEALING FROM LOSS RECOVER IT ALL ... AND MORE In the future economic chaos that will encompass the world you may―if NOT prepared―suffer financial and material loss. This teaching will help you to recover all … PLUS more ... and do greater works for the LORD. HOW TO RECOVER LOSS If you have lived long enough, it is quite possible you have encountered some type of loss ... or let me put it this way: suffered some kind of loss. “Suffered” because any type of loss can cause you some kind of mental or physical anguish. What you want to be aware of―and guard against―is that you do not allow the loss to cause "anguish of the spirit." Many times loss is the result of a particular stratagem of Satan to get you to STOP action, or to DISCOURAGE you from going forward, or to harass you mentally and CONFUSE you so you do not focus on the important goals of the Kingdom of God: especially the ordained purpose of your existence at this particular time of your life. At times, the loss we encounter may be our own fault as the result of: Ignorance (lack of knowledge in a specific area); Disobedience to God's Law; Not taking advantage of information available to us; Presumption; and, Foolishness (like gambling … which CAN include foolish investments). There can be as many types of loss as there are activities or relationships in which we are involved. Financial loss; Loss of a loved one; Physical or mental loss due to health issues; Loss of the anointing of the Ruach HaKodesh רוח הקודש (the Holy Spirit). In this message I want to teach you HOW to recover loss. (God instructed me STOP what I was doing and to give this word―this message―to His people.) Many times, hard or difficult times are a good sign, especially for the People of God. For example, a physical condition or material situation―or just tough things―will crop up right before you are entering a NEW dimension of service to God. You might not be aware that a NEW dimension of service to the LORD is about to unfold … or you may have been praying and fasting for it. A NEW level or area of service to God is extremely important for the people you will be reaching―AND―for the Lord you are serving: Jesus the Messiah. In First Samuel Chapter 30, we read that when King David and his men returned to Ziklag they discovered their wives and children and all their property had been taken by the Amalekites. When consulting with the LORD, David was directed to “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.” The message for you is to “Go, recover all the enemy has stolen from you.” Bind Satan in JESUS’ name and command him to repay you seven times for everything he has stolen from you. “Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; but if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.” (Proverbs 6:30-31) How much more shall the devil―using either people OR his demonic agents to steal from you―be commanded in JESUS’ name to restore to you sevenfold, if not more! Notice that David and his men not only recovered their wives, children, and property that had been stolen … but, also, recovered all the spoil the Amalekites had stolen from the Philistines and out of the land of Judah. Notice, also, that right before this happened, David was greatly distressed (when his men discovered their loss) because the people were considering stoning him. However, “David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” (1 Samuel 30:6) A few days later after recovering the losses at Ziklag, plus extra riches, David received word that his enemy, King Saul, had been slain in battle. David then went up to Hebron, where the men of Judah anointed him King over Judah. (Even though the LORD’s Prophet Samuel had anointed him King previously.) SUMMARY Hard times are many times a sign that you are entering a NEW dimension of service to God … and blessing: for YOU and for the people you will be serving. Hard times are many times a sign that the devil is greatly concerned about the NEW dimension of service you will be entering, and therefore is trying to defeat you through discouragement so that you will roll over and quit. Do NOT do it. Get up, ACT, and recover it all. In hard times you have an EXCELLENT opportunity to encourage others: They can see your trust in God. Your testimony will help them KNOW and GROW Messiah Jesus in their lives. PLUS: Your declaration of faith will position you into God’s favor. SUGGESTION Get alone with God and and LISTEN to Him. (You may want to fast.) If your loss has been financial or material―like many people will experience in future economic chaos―then make a COVENANT with God. Tell Him that you want to give him a certain amount above your normal tithes and offerings for a certain amount of time OR a certain length of new venture you are entering. (See Tanakh: Malachi Chapter Three, verses 10-11.) You can give this money to your Synagogue or Church or Prayer Group ... or to the needy or orphans or widows. Learn to work with God "hand-in-hand" to bless the nations. This is TRUE prosperity. "But you shall remember the LORD your God: for it is He that gives you power to get wealth, so that he may establish his covenant which he swore unto your fathers ..." (Torah: Deuteronomy 8:18) Remember: the devil wants to kill you, steal from you and destroy you. But the GOOD NEWS is that God’s Son―Messiah Yeshua―came to Planet Earth that YOU might have life ... and have it MORE ABUNDANTLY. This is God's will for you―in addition to eternal life in Heaven! Get up, ACT, and recover it all! I trust this message will help you today, my friend. Baruch haba b'Shem Adonai. In this episode, Certified Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist and End-of-Life Doula Wendy Sloneker takes us through some critical definitions: What is grief? What is loss? Everyone's experience of grief and loss is different and unique to them, and what causes these feelings and how we respond to them is different and unique. If you're not crying, are you truly grieving? Yes. As a society, we don't talk about loss because it is such an uncomfortable topic. But we lose out on knowing how to navigate those feelings in a way that works for us and our experience. Join Wendy and learn about how to experience loss — and heal from it — in a healthy way.

Erica Thomas, an author, ghostwrite, transition life coach, author coach, and motivational speaker. I've been working with clients as a transition life coach in healing their trauma and changing their lives for the better since 2005. During my own healing process, I coauthored a healing journal and created a groundbreaking program titled Healing to Wholeness Transformation. Often times we fail to recognize the trauma that we've sustained in life because we've simply settled with “let go and let God” but that statement doesn't heal any damage left behind from losses or bad experiences. And its those losses and bad experiences that continue to cause you not to trust, love correctly and live happily in your purpose. In fact these bad times causes all of us to forget our purpose. Thinking on what you've survived throughout life, what would you like to work on that needs proper healing? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/angelia-scott/message
Guest Karen Chaston will teach us how to heal from loss, through discussing her own personal loss and how she ultimately saw loss as a gift.

Well into her 80's, Natasha Josefowitz, Ph.D., has lived a full life. Some might argue she has lived enough for several lives. To say that she has been a trailblazer would be an understatement. In 1980, Natasha wrote Paths to Power: A Woman's Guide from First Job to Top Executive (Addison Wesley 1980), which quickly became a bestselling guide for women in the workplace. Natasha taught the first college course in the country on women in management. In the mid-eighties, she became one of the first female members of Rotary International in California. Natasha has hosted her own television segment, appeared regularly on NPR, wrote her own nationally syndicated column, and appeared on Larry King Show, Sally Jesse Raphael, and Dr. Ruth, to name a few. While she has written several other bestselling books, her passion is poetry. Now, at 87 years young, having recently lost her brother, her son and her husband, it is Natasha's strength, her passion for living life, and candor that is truly infectious. Living Without the One You Cannot Live Without (November 2013), is perhaps the most telling book ever written about pre and post grief. It is a collection of powerful, gritty, candid, and inspiring poems about living life after loss. It was recently named to Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2013.
