What makes Cape Cod a welcoming, meaningful, and substantive place to visit? The arts. Unfortunately, the region's housing crisis has made it increasingly more difficult for artists to live, work, and create here. State Senator Julian Cyr returns to the CX Podcast to discuss these challenges and how last year's landmark legislation, the Affordable Homes Act, will give Cape Cod and the Islands the tools to keep creatives here through the Seasonal Communities designation which prioritizes housing for artists. The logical, rational side of neuroscientist Lisa Genova's brain said not to write a book, but her heart said otherwise. Roughly two decades ago, Lisa listened to the latter, penning her first novel, Still Alice, a highly personal piece inspired by her grandmother's struggles with Alzheimer's. Following her true north has led Genova to writing four more books with another (More or Less Maddy) on the way in 2025. The New York Times best-selling author sits down with host Julie Wake to discuss taking that career risk, selling her first book out of the trunk of a car, and living a life with purpose. Why make art? For Frank Anigbo, it's in the act of creating — showing that everyone (and anything) he paints has value. In this episode of the Creative Exchange, Frank takes listeners on a powerful journey from his hometown in Nigeria to his studio (and home) in Barnstable Village, and how becoming a parent inspired him to put his passions into painting – where he explores the topics of poverty, the intrinsic value of all life, racism, and the anxiety of parenthood. In this episode, we are thrilled to welcome Susie Coelho, a best-selling author, television personality, lifestyle expert, and entrepreneur, who is currently the founder and CEO of Susie Coelho Enterprises. Susie's journey, marked by her incredible drive and resilience, showcases her ability to reinvent herself and succeed in diverse fields. Susie emphasizes that hard work and necessity are critical drivers of success. She never borrowed money from anyone, relying solely on her ability to generate income and create opportunities. This mindset, instilled by her immigrant background, underscores the importance of working diligently to make one's mark and achieve financial independence. Susie's journey is a testament to her adaptability. She transitioned from being a model to an actress, and then to opening a store on Melrose Avenue after a divorce created the need for money to pay the mortgage. Susie shared the details of reinventing herself after taking time to raise her son. She conducted a “listening tour” with friends to identify her strengths and passions, which led her to establish a personal brand, combining elements of Oprah's inspiration and Martha Stewart's style. Susie successfully built a lifestyle brand and company that gained widespread recognition. Susie demonstrates the power of courage and persistence, and her ability to sense the right timing has often led to her success. As she moves forward with her next venture, she firmly believes that "the best is yet to come," – both for herself, and as a central message she will be sharing with others - inspiring others to strive towards their future goals. Her new phase is deeply aligned to what we found in research we did for our Catalyst Leadership Trust, that Catalysts never really retire, they move into their ‘third 3rd' of their career focusing on projects that fill their souls. In this episode of JM International's ‘The Power of Music', we speak about spreading the power of music in underserved communities. We discuss the importance of understanding a local context and working with local partners and artists, how to decide when to adapt to the local context and when to stand up for something you feel is important, and how the differences in music scales can make us aware of our cultural insensitivities. As the Delia Arts Foundation runs multiple projects in Gaza, we talk about the shift to providing humanitarian aid, the decisions that have to be made, and about the role of music in times of war, and – of course – the power of music. The Delia Arts Foundation provides the tools, infrastructure, and resources to make dreams a reality for talented young musicians, particularly in regions where opportunities to become professional musicians are scarce.JMI is a global network of NGOs that empowers young people through music across all boundaries. Bob Staake's superpower? Meeting deadlines. It's how he was able to design the iconic New Yorker cover celebrating Barack Obama's historic victory in the 2008 presidential election in less than 24 hours. Fueled by a self-drive (and the occasional bag of Doritos) to create, Bob's curiosity has served as his motivation in a career that has spanned four decades, and which has seen his whimsical, playful, one-of-a-kind art fill the pages of the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Wall Street Journal. He's written or illustrated more than 75 children's books (with another on the way). And he's worked for a list of illustrious clients that have included the NFL, American Express, Sony, Sports Illustrated for Kids, Walt Disney, McDonald's, Hallmark Cards, and countless others. Despite his impressive career, Bob is never satisfied. His favorite project is always the next one. “If you're not doing something better tomorrow, what is the point?” he says in this captivating conversation which reveals his endless obsession with creating art. A new collection of prose poetry, Bone Country (Cornerstone Press), was published in 2023 after being honored as a finalist in several national competitions. Recently, she was invited to read an award-winning selection from Bone Country at the West Cork Literary Festival in Ireland. The first Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids, Michigan (2003-2005), Foster is the founder of the Contemporary Writers Series at Aquinas College. You can find out more here. Nemec Foster's collection of prose poems is a reflection of the world before COVID. All of the pieces are inspired by other parts of the world-Istanbul, Rome, Krakow, Prague, Vienna, Seville-not the familiar landscape of the United States. But, the narrator is definitely not a native of these countries; they are "the other," "the foreigner," the American with a distinct Midwest sensibility who is trying to make sense of a world on the brink of an unforeseen catastrophe - the world as we used to know it.
