It's our 50th episode, and, to celebrate this milestone, we're discussing the two movies that inspired this podcast: DOOR and SABAKU! When we first started this podcast, Banmei Takahashi's DOOR was a brutally underseen, almost forgotten film. Now, thanks to Third Window Films, it has had a second life! Guy unpacks the story of its production company and his own introduction to the film. We then take a hard violent turn with SABAKU, a vicious queer pinku from the early 2000s. This film has always been shrouded in mystery. Dave digs deep into secrets, focusing on its oddly named director, "Casino", and its connection to podcast favourite, Hisaysu Sato.  Follow Show Me Something Wrong on Instagram and Twitter. Joe Kiely (The Wire Stripped, Shitegeist podcast) and Ben Challoner (Third Window Films Podcast) return to Flixwatcher remotely to review Joe's choice tick, tick... BOOM! Tick Tick Boom is a 2021 musical theatre biographical film starring Andrew Garfield as Jonathan Larson. Directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and written by Steven (Dear Evan Hansen) Levenson it is based on the stage production of the same name written by Larson about his struggle trying to make a name in the world of performing arts. It captures the period of Larson's life where he spent being a peak asshole and before he wrote the hit musical Rent, which he never saw the success of because he tragically died on the day of the preview. Released on Netflix in November 2021 it received a mixed reaction from Flixwatcher and guests and generally. Although it is pretty much agreed that Garfield's performance is a standout and deserves all the nominations for his singing and musicality. This is reflected in the scores with recommenability hovering around the threes but low numbers for repeat viewing and engagement (a runtime of two hours feels stretched) gives an overall rating of 3.17.   [supsystic-tables id=258] Episode #246 Crew Links Thanks to Episode #246 Crew of Ben Challoner (@BenjyBox) and Joe Kiely (@Shitegeistpod) Find their Websites online at https://letterboxd.com/benjybox/ And at https://blubrry.com/shitegeist/ And at http://www.shitegeistpod.com/ More about Highlander For more info on Highlander, you can visit Tick Tick Boom IMDb page here or Tick Tick Boom Rotten Tomatoes page here. HAPPY NEW YEAR! PART 2 for 2022!As we released PART 1 of this special two-part and festive 'Kimchi and Film' themed 'NoSoKoPo' show only hours before Christmas Day itself, we thought it best to hold out until after the first week of 2022 before dropping PART 2 on our viewers & listeners, by which time Jay & Tim would have just settling back into 'the new normal', and perhaps our 'fans' would have too!In this second half - which starts immediately after PART 1's interview with artists (and 'kimchi pool' designers), The Decorators - Jay and Tim dedicate a large chunk of it to Korean films, a Korean-related film or two and indeed a Korean Christmas film which recently graced UK cinema screens. Movies covered and/or reviewed include two by Kim Jong-kwan, "Josée" and "Shades Of The Heart", as well as "Finding Angel", "Heaven - To The Land Of Happiness", "Spiritwalker", "Drive My Car", Justin Chon's "Blue Bayou", and d even a documentary about Oscar-winner Ms Youn Yuh-jung... Oh, and chit-chat about when Jay & Tim met a couple of Korean film directors recently, including Mr Im Sang-soo.From film talk we mix this with chat about Korean adoptees, coffee places in KoreaTown and indeed South Korea itself, an exhausting London Korean Film Festival in 2021, touch on Korean plastic surgery, the Sewol ferry [as we did in Part 1 briefly] and a tiny video snippet from a recent Sewol UK memorial in Korea-town itself, as well as John Kim's Kimchi song again and speak a little about North Koreans in New Malden yet again - a subject we will be covering more in Episode 18 or 19.Listen out for us touching again on new gift-box company, "Seoulbox" [an unboxing of which will also feature in Episode 18], the Third Window Films podcast and the prospect of Jay & Tim doing 'live' podcast sessions in New Malden itself.Lastly, you'll hear about how Jay took up far too much of a KOFICE's correspondent's time, but at the same time learnt so much about how she (Tayoni) helps others with the Korean language via her YouTube channel, in addition to Jay, and indeed Tim almost 'food-shopping' in the name of Korean TV channel, KBS!Further information about subjects covered in this episode can be found here:FILM INFO:"Finding Angel" - Thanks to @themediapioneers (Instagram)"Blue Bayou" - @BlueBayouFilm (Instagram) & @JustinChon (Instagram - director)"Drive My Car - @drivemycar_mv (Instagram)"Heaven - To The Land Of Happiness", "Spiritwalker""Josée" and "Shades Of The Heart" - @monologue707 (dir. Three homeless people Gin - a middle-aged alcoholic, Hana - a transgender woman and Miyuki - teenage runaway discover an abandoned baby on Christmas Eve and end up on a wild adventure when they try to reunite baby and mother. Son himself calls Tokyo Godfathers “a twisted sentimental story” despite the Christmas setting and Three Wise Men elements that is where the warming festive spirit ends as the story progresses there is murder, beatings, suicide and the reality of being homeless. This might sound depressing but there is also humour and hope.   [supsystic-tables id=248] Recommendations for Tokyo Godfathers were very high - even from Helen! In this episode, David incorrectly states that he is done with Twitter forever. What is a man if not his posts? What is a man to do, at home alone, caring for his only child, if not scroll the TL? These questions I ask you. I ask you to ponder them. Should a man work with his hands? Should a man create in his spare time, to bring forth his inner light? Should a man ponder the inner workings of his mind, whether he is becoming more machine than man, whether he thinks, therefore he is? I ask you to consider the hell of our own making. I ask you to consider that black scrying mirror into which we all gaze and ask yourself, what am I? What indeed have I become? We also talk about 1998's Pornostar, about an autistic guy in a big coat who stabs the dogshit out of yakuzas because he believes in himself. There's also skating and Paul Wall (I think). Podcast herunterladen

Elwood and Stephen check out “Turtles Are Suprisingly Fast Swimmers” a rather unique Japanese comedy (of sorts) as a mild mannered housewife finds herself being recruited to be spy. Stephen gives us an overview of the career of the films leading lady Juri Ueno, while we also name our favourite titles from the “Third Window Films” catalogue. All this plus our favourite Asian authors, Elwood finally watches “Shin Godzilla” and much more!!

Filmspezial 64 Destruction Babies oder "The most extreme 108 minutes in japanese cinema history", wie er gerne beworben wird. Eine gewagte These. Don’t ask why, but this is relaxing compared to what’s happening in the world nowadays. London’s burning and Stoo is panicking! Facebook and Twitter have been a buzz with the news that our good friends (and friends of the podcast) Joey Terracotta of TERRACOTTA DISTRIBUTION (http://terracottadistribution.com/) and Adam Torel of THIRD WINDOW FILMS (http://thirdwindowfilms.com/) had […]
