He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. The assigned reading for this Sunday is John 3:1-15 (16-17). The sermon is from verses 16-18. John 3:1–18 (ESV) You Must Be Born Again 3 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.' 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” 9 Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” 10 Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? 11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God So Loved the World 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

When we think of the Trinity, we can find ourselves in a position of trying to comprehend the mystery of the nature of God. If we try to comprehend the reality of God's triune nature, we will fail, for God is above and beyond us. However, we are enabled through God's revelation in Scripture to apprehend the triunity of God, for he has revealed himself to us through Jesus Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Three persons, one God. A mystery that we will ever praise and one that we are united to through the work of Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.Image: Christ's Baptism (San Marco), photo taken by Jim Forest, licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 (no changes made).Image Location: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jimforest/3473212604/in/photostream/www.gracegastonia.com/sermon-blog/2022/6/12/apprehending-the-trinity-john-145-15

"Standing in Awe of the Trinity" John 8:48-59

The King's Church International Audio Podcast

Recap Title: Praying Like Jesus Prayed Series: Discovering The Real Jesus Key Text: John 17 Key Message: As we continue our series on ‘Discovering the real Jesus' we will arrive at John chapter 17, which looks at a prayer of Jesus. Interestingly, this prayer is the longest prayer recorded by Jesus. Through this prayer we see the heart and nature of Jesus. The prayer demonstrates Jesus' relationship with his father and it also shows us that he intercedes for us. As Christians we know that prayer is an important part of our walk with God. Martin Luther King Jr said “To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing”. We cannot claim to be a Christian and not pray. Jesus Himself prayed a lot. He prayed when He needed to make important decisions. We have examples in the bible of Jesus praying alone and with his disciples, He prayed early in the morning and in the evening. He prayed often and with fervor. In John 17, Jesus' prayer is a different kind of prayer. It is a prayer of vision, faith, confidence and victory. This particular prayer was during a time when He faced his greatest and toughest mission. He knew that it would not be long before He would suffer and be crucified on the cross to pay the price of sin. Jesus prayed for Himself (John 17:1, 5) Jesus prayed for His disciples He prayed for their protection (John 17:11; Romans 8:34) He prayed for their joy (John 17:13; Hebrews 12:2) He prayed for their development in holiness (John 17:17-19) Jesus prayed for all believers (John 17:20, 11) Apply Jesus prayed for Himself. It may seem selfish or self-centred to pray for yourself, however, John chapter 17 verses 1 & 5 helps us to understand Why Jesus prayed for Himself Jesus is the only one who can ask God to give Him glory because He is the son of God and all authority has been given to Him. However, it is important to note that He doesn't just ask for glory, He says give me glory, that I can give glory to you. In this, Jesus prayed that through Him, God would be glorified. We know that this is what indeed happened through his intense suffering. The glory of Jesus was displayed through his sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection. Jesus prays in everything and in every situation His Father will be glorified. Real prayer should always be focussed on seeing God work out his good purposes in our life so that honour and glory goes to Him. When you pray for yourself, what is your intention? Is it all about you being blessed? Is just about your personal needs? Or are you focussed on God blessing you so that you can bless God and others. The best way is to pray like Jesus, Lord, give to me, that I can give more to you. This can include our time, our finances, our resources etc. Jesus prayed for his disciples The main focus of the ministry of Jesus was to call and train His team of disciples. He knew that making disciples was the greatest way for his message and ministry to be continued. He knew that the condition of his disciples was key to their success or failure and to the advance of the kingdom of God. He was well aware that they would face big trials and temptations that could make them or break them. This is why He made it such a priority to pray for his disciples and this is why all of us who are leaders of the flock of God need to pray for the disciples under our care. He prayed for their protection Jesus knew that his disciples would need spiritual cover in his absence. He knew that they needed protection from the evil one. Jesus prayed for his disciples then and He prays for us now. (John 17:11; Romans 8:34) We need to pray that our disciples will be protected in their health, in their faith, finances in their family and in every area of their lives. He prayed for their joy Jesus was full of joy. Even when He faced the cross, He never lost his joy. (John 17:13; Hebrews 12:2). The Lord doesn't rob us of joy but fills us with joy. He prayed for their development in holiness One of the great areas we need to focus, is for those we are training to always walk in the ways of the Lord. We need to pray that they will stay close to the Lord and constantly be freed from dirt and spiritual pollution. We must pray daily for our loved ones and for our disciples. (John 17:17-19) Jesus prayed for all believers This means He prayed for the church both locally and globally. Both in the present and in the future. Jesus had a heart and a vision to see the multitudes come to believe in Him throughout all generations. He prayed for unity, not just for his disciples but for all future believers. (John 17:20) Unity across the church is important if we are to win people to Christ. Jesus prayed for a unity like that which unites the Trinity – (John 17:11). This means that we all should be of same heart, mind and will. Are you united with our church's vision to grow and bless the nations? We have a vision for growth, for generational blessing in families and to see transformation in our world. As a church we must be united together so that others will see the truth and be believe in God. If we will commit to unity, we will see change in our lives, in our families and in our nation. Do you commit your family, your leaders and your disciples to prayer? Pray for their protection and sanctification, that is to be set apart to do the will of God. Are you united in all things with one goal, to spread the good news of the gospel?

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but so the world might be saved through him." These verses fall on Trinity Sunday, and the combination of the most famous Bible verses with one of the most bewildering doctrines may trigger salvation anxiety for many. So often, John 3:16 is used as a litmus test for faith. The key to not perishing is believing in Jesus. And what must we believe? That Jesus is God and the Son of God and that he died to satisfy God's wrath and there's a Spirit too and one plus one plus one equals one and if we can only force our minds and hearts to accept all this contradictory and impossible information, we can go to heaven, but if not... Breathe. That is not what this means. If we unlearn exclusive, violent interpretations attached to these verses, Love really does shine through and cast out all fear. God loves the whole world, utterly and completely. So much that God comes and shares our human nature, to show us perfect love in the language we can best understand -- embodiment. Beyond words to presence and action and heart-to-heart connection. Relationship. God "gave" his Son doesn't mean God "killed" his Son. Usually these verses take us straight to the cross. But before we get there, Jesus embodies love for everyone, especially the marginalized, throughout his life. He embraces women and children and lepers and the poor. He heals the sick. He feeds the hungry. He casts out demons... rather than cast out people haunted by demons. He shows that no one is beyond redemption. "Eternal life" is not "afterlife." It's full, rich, meaningful, courageous life. Life not circumscribed by fear of death. What would we do for each other if we weren't afraid of losing or dying? That's the kind of life we can live now if we trust in Jesus. To trust in Jesus is to trust in the one who destroys all the limits to love. We set limits to love, love those in our "in groups," and know who we are by who we keep out. But by going to the margins and loving enemies, Jesus shows that true love is boundless. Even when he is so thoroughly dehumanized, shunned, abused, and publicly executed, he rises from the dead to say, "I love you." Nicodemus learns this love. Utterly clueless when Jesus first speaks to him of "flesh" and "Spirit," he comes to see the true love of God in Jesus. He comes to Jesus first by night, unwilling to be seen. But after Jesus has died, he helps to bury the body in broad daylight. Moved by love to courage beyond shame and fear. And that's what it means to be born "of the Spirit." That's the kind of Love that Jesus shares with God the Father, a perfect relationship of trusting, mutual, non-rivalrous love. And it's the Love the Holy Spirit opens to us. God is the Relationship of Love that empowers us to love fearlessly. Lindsey and Adam invite you to join us and share the love every Wednesday on Jesus Unmasked at 5 CT/ 3 PT on the Raven Foundation FB page!

Continuing the lectures on the Gospel of John, we delve deeper into the Biblical texts that are crucial for the Trinity and the Inter-Trinitarian life of the Persons. Orthodox theology alone has the correct conceptual tools and frameworks and metaphysical distinctions that explain how the Triad is coherent. The chapters of John we will cover tonight are crucial for that understanding, as we delve into the High Priestly Prayer of the Great High Priest, Jesus.

Before the Last supper's teaching, the Holy Spirit, didn't practically exist in the life or even in the KNOWLEDGE of these rookie believers.  My guess is that essentially for them, "the Helper was about 2 hours old".  But what an introduction!  What was really unknown to the disciples turns out to be absolutely ESSENTIAL in the life of the believer.  As we considered yesterday, Jesus proclaims Him as ADVANTAGEOUS to the believer.do you need help? God provides a Helperdo you not grieve over your sin? The Spirit will convicthave you FORGOTTEN the Spirit? He is to your advantagedo you desire fellowship with the Father and Son? It is accessed mostly by the Spirit nowdo you not know everything yet? the Spirit will guide you into TruthWhat an introduction.  For a part of the Trinity that was almost unknown 2 hours ago for the disciples, they find out HE IS EVERYTHING in the practical life of the believer. He SHOULD BE everything to us too.  Listen and see if He is your Swiss army Knife spiritually. Find us on Vox, Pandora, CastBox, Deezer, Overcast or on the web at www.bewithme.us. Jesus continues with a very clear statement in an undisputed part of John 8 about not judging. Notice that Jesus also states that if he did judge, he would be correct, because he doesn't do anything unless the Father directs him. His judgment would be dead on, because his ability to obey the Father is dead on.    Think about it. Why is it wrong to judge others? Because we're wrong. No matter how good you think you are, we all fall short (Romans 3:23). We all miss the mark. The closer we can get to following Jesus, the closer we come to not sinning, to not missing the mark.    Jesus doesn't tell us to avoid making judgments, but to avoid comparing ourselves to others and passing God's judgment on them. We will all be wrong in some degree. But we can serve others and appreciate others and do what Jesus did as we follow him. Our job is to move ourselves closer and closer to Jesus by modeling our life after his. He listened to the Father and did what the Father told him to do. We listen to Jesus, appreciate and serve others, and help them see Jesus because of the way we live. That's our goal as a Follower of One.   Today, can we avoid comparison and rather find ways to model Jesus' life among our coworkers? When we pray for, appreciate and serve our coworkers, customer, vendors and friends, we model the life of Jesus. Then, someone may ask you why you're doing this. Make sure you give credit where credit is due. If Jesus saved you and called you to this life, then tell others what great things the Lord has done for you. Check out Mark 5:19 for a great statement by Jesus on how we tell others about him.

Episode 8 of our verse-by verse study through the Book of Revelation. We look at the Church at Sardis a dead or dying church and what it needs to do to be restored. A great warning and lesson for the modern church. Part of this study looks into the Seven Spirits of God that Jesus holds in his hand. I mentioned I would share that portion of the note with the listener here; The Seven Spirits could refer to what Jesus shared in John Chapter 14, where the number seven means the sevenfold ministry of the Holy Spirit. ⇒ He is the Comforter, the other Helper (John 14:16). ⇒ He is the Spirit of truth (John 14:17). ⇒ He is the personal presence of Christ (John 14:18-20). ⇒ He is the very special manifestation of Christ within the believer (John 14:21-22). ⇒ He is the abiding presence of the Trinity (John 14:23-24). ⇒ He is the teacher (John 14:25-26). ⇒ He is the peace of Christ (John 14:27). Or it could be reference to the detailing of the Holy Spirit in Isaiah 11:2 "And the spirit of the lordshall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the lord" (Isaiah 11:2). ⇒ The Spirit of the Lord ⇒ The Spirit of wisdom ⇒ The Spirit of understanding ⇒ The Spirit of counsel ⇒ The Spirit of might ⇒ The Spirit of knowledge ⇒ The Spirit of fear To put it in the simplest of terms, the number 7 refers to completeness and the dying church needs the completeness of the Holy Spirit if it is going to revive. www.JayMccaig.com www.LifeatTheCrossroads.com --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/simpletruth/message

As we continue our study of Romans, we come to verse 4 of chapter 1. Jesus is declared the Son of God by virtue of His resurrection from the dead. Don't Skip On By Don't just skip on by that statement. It is the resurrection of Jesus that definitively declares that He is the Son of the Living God. Paul goes into deeper detail in 1 Corinthians 15 about the significance of the resurrection. it is not too crass to say, without the resurrection, Christianity is a waste of time! In fact, Paul says exactly that - without the resurrection - there is no salvation for anyone. It is the power of the Holy Spirit who gives us live - new life (Romans 6:4) - and raises Christ to life. He guided Christ's ministry and gives us the capacity to overcome sin. Two States of Jesus This verse reveals to us the two states of Jesus. Similar to how verse 3 shows the two natures of Jesus - Divine and human - verse 4 show His two states. Actually, He has existed in three states. Meaning simply that Jesus existed in eternity before creation as the Logos, the Second Person of the Trinity (John 1:1-3,14; 17:1-5). This was His first state of existence - eternal. His second state of existence - called the humiliation - is when He came down to earth and took on flesh. Here, He existed as fully/truly man and fully/truly God. In this state - His humanity - He kept the law perfectly. His third state - called the exaltation - is His glorification (in body and position) back to the right hand of the Father. Now (from His resurrection forward) He exists in a glorified body and is exalted to the highest place in all of creation. This is just one of the points Paul makes in this verse. Volumes of Information It has been said that the first seven verses of Romans encapsulate the rest of the 16 chapters of the book. There is so much deep and rich meaning in these verses, it's hard to move through them. This is the reason we have spent so much time already just discussing this single sentence. As we move forward, you will begin to understand better the message Paul is straining to communicate. And in the process, your life will change. _____________________________________ Related Podcasts This series begins with episode #68 - see them here

DAY 23 | HOW OLD IS JESUS?Scripture Reading: John 1:1-14 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it.6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. 9 The true light that gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.10 He was in the world, and the world was created through him, and yet the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. 12 But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, 13 who were born, not of natural descent, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but of God.14 The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” — John 1: 1-14 Have you ever wondered how old Jesus was? It’s a trick question. To answer we have to start ‘in the beginning’ (vs.1-2). Long before Christmas trees, Santa Claus, elves, and mocha peppermint lattes, there was the birth of Jesus Christ, in a sleepy little town called Bethlehem. But, that was not the beginning for Jesus was it? No, we’ve got to go further back into ancient history. Way back, before the virgin birth, before the Christmas star, the shepherds, the wise men; before Moses, Abraham, Adam or Eve; even before the creation of the universe itself, there was Jesus, the Son of God eternally existing as the second person of the Trinity (John 8:58). The first time I heard that, it blew my mind. I hope it blows yours too! I had no category this. I thought, “Christians believe that before Jesus was born was born of Mary, the divine person of Jesus, the Son of God, eternally existed?” It’s true! You see, when you and I were born, we were new people. But when Jesus was born, it was the long-awaited arrival of the eternally existent Word of God (Micah 5:2).Not only did Jesus always exist, but, “All things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created.” (John 1:3) So what does all this mean for us this Christmas season? Two things: Comfort and awe!First, allow yourself to be comforted, knowing that although you may not sense God in the midst of whatever difficulty or stress you are facing this season, Jesus, the eternally existent, resurrected, sovereign sustainer of all things, is there with you every step of the way (Col. 1:17). Trust in Jesus, and let the light of Christ shine into the darkest corners of your heart and life.Second, allow your mind to be blown. Let your heart be moved to worship God. Our great Creator loves us so much. He entered His creation, taking on our humanity, to die on the cross for our sins. There is a glorious mystery about Jesus that is too grand to comprehend, but can beckon you and I to a worshipful sense of awe.As we anticipate Christmas Day, take some time to remember that though we rightly celebrate Jesus’ coming to the world, he was there “in the beginning.” Stand before the glorious night sky of the Son of God’s eternal existence and worship Him with all that you are.Reflection Questions:1. If you have kids, see if any of them can answer the trick question, ‘How old is Jesus’? (How would you answer that?)2. What struggle are you facing that is hindering your worship of God? How could being more awed by God overshadow the anxiety, stress or brokenness you are facing this week?3. What are some practical ways you can humble yourself before God this advent season, in order to experience the comfort of Christ?
