Lee shares from 1 John 1:5-10 about confession, in the second week of our series 'You Are What You Love'.
Alan Stubbs, the captain who led Everton to fourth place in 2004/05 – their highest ever Premier League position – is the latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home. A lifelong Evertonian from Kirkby, Stubbs was a passionate match-going Blues supporter as a youngster and was also on the club's books as a boy, but his professional career started down the East Lancs Road with Bolton Wanderers. The former centre-half recalls his breakthrough spell with the Trotters, an attempt by Everton to sign him – that he didn't know about until years later – his big move to Celtic, including some poignant revelations about his cancer battles, and finally getting the chance to join his beloved Blues in his 30th year. Stubbs enjoyed two separate spells at Goodison Park, regretting the circumstances which prompted him to quit in between, while he also lifts the lid on some of the great characters he played alongside, such as Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney, as well as offering a candid take on David Moyes' evolving managerial methods. Graham tells us what he learned by talking to Sean O'Hagan from the High Llamas when he saw the band at Hebden Bridge last weekend.Graham has also been watching Fellini's Roma (1972) in Italian! Kirkby's finest, China Crisis, are the guests in this month's Misadventures in Music podcast with Ian Prowse and Mick Ord. Eddie Lundon and Gary Daly founded the band in 1979 and notched up a string of hits in the album and singles charts in the 1980's. They're still going as strong as ever and regularly touring the UK and Europe. Their candid tales of working with Walter Becker of Steely Dan and supporting and 'socialising' with David Bowie are the stuff of legend. Their musical influences might raise a few eyebrows (and smiles) as well. Oh yes, their sense of humour is as sharp as it ever was as you'll discover when you listen to this episode of Misadventures in Music.
Waikato councils are standing firm on their Māori Ward seats, meaning most of the region's residents will face, and be paying for a referendum on the issue next year.
James Graham's writing obsession started at the age of six in the shadow of Nottinghamshire's former coalmines. Equipped with a typewriter from his mother he created hundreds of stories from the family home in Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Accelerating through university in Hull and a writing residency in west London, Graham's work started to attract wider audiences following a break at the National Theatre in 2012. Building on his thrilling political drama This House, he went on to write plays and TV series including Sherwood, Dear England, Quiz, Best of Enemies and Brexit: The Uncivil War.During this year's MacTaggart lecture at the Edinburgh TV Festival, he called for more working-class people in TV. But what next for this prolific playwright? Stephen Smith speaks to his family, friends and colleagues to find out more. As a high achiever, you've probably spent your career optimising for productivity, efficiency, and the bottom line. But there comes a time when that old winning formula no longer cuts it. Maybe you've been promoted, or you're leading a bigger team. Maybe you've been told to bring more energy, charisma, and presence to your leadership so that others want to follow you. Research shows that bringing play, fun, and creativity to work can help to retain colleagues, and inspire more innovative ideas. Before you freeze and say, I'm the most un-fun person I know (shriek emoji), stay with me. I promise, there's no juggling or stand-up comedy required. Today's guests are going to teach you how (and WHY) to bring more energy and fun to your leadership. Richard Medcalf is an author and coach who heads CEO circles with fun and a lightness of touch. Consultant clinical neuropsychologist, Dr Antonia Kirkby explains our brains on play, and why you want to be optimising for connection in meetings. The episode is full of ideas you can try right away. Richard Medcalf Dr Antonia Kirkby on LinkedIn Video of the Restaurant of Mistaken Orders. We've got a riveting 'Part TWO' edition of @EchoChamberFP https://www.instagram.com/echochamberfp/ for you this week!!! Thanks to the great folks at Modern Films, we were able to check out this new and strikingly unorthodox documentary. THEN, sit down with the visual arts phenom, making her first forays into feature length filmmaking with the project! We talk about the challenges, how different formats offer new insights into storytelling, why now was the time, and this was the tale to tell. We got into a LOT, in only sixty minutes, so you don't want to miss this one!!! Watch the conversation: HERE! https://youtu.be/s__CTIKhqZ4 'Stephen' is the feature directorial debut from Melanie Manchot, which she co-wrote with Leigh Campbell. A hybrid narrative fiction/documentary, STEPHEN is shaped by the raw and moving energy of one young man's quest to transform his early life of violence and addiction and of his desire to both act and live differently. The film is centred around Stephen Giddings (Ste @stegiddings), who, growing up on the Quarry Green Estate in Kirkby, Liverpool, was confronted with addiction from an early age - both in the lives of those around him, and eventually in his own. At just 26 years old he was giving up on life. What follows is an intimate journey as Stephen auditions for and takes on a role in a movie, questioning whether he can fulfil his ambitions and realise one of his big dreams: to become an actor. Combining original archive material, interviews and narrative drama, STEPHEN brings together a unique cast of British actors alongside a support cast of participants in active addiction recovery. When you've spent years in survival mode at work, your body starts perceiving this as normal. A recent article in Forbes mentions a new profile of burnt-out employees, the ‘engaged-exhausted.' They continue to function at the highest levels, but inside they're highly stress and have mixed feelings about their careers. Why do some people continue to push themselves to breaking point? I'm in conversation with Tatiana Poliakova, ex-Managing Director at Nomura, an investment bank. Tatiana was addicted to success and adrenalin, but her body started sending up flares.
