MARV Live @ Soho House on March 14 2020 - Heavy Measures of Simple Pleasures This new reality had me in a funk, until today, when woe and why became what can I do, now. And, for the time being, at home. What can I pretty up around the house? What have I not had time for, before? I made this mix about 8yrs ago when I was doing a show on Soul Public Radio. At the time I was doing Tribute Thursday's to pay respect to the legends who inspired me as among the world. With her untimely passing I dug it up for all of us to remember the Queen Of Soul. Thank You, I Love You, and Rest In Heaven Ms. Aretha Louise Franklin.

Keisha Jackson a veteran vocalist that is not new to the industry. She is the daughter of iconic music legend Millie Jackson and she has made quite a name for herself. She has done background vocals for many acts such as OutKast, Angie Stone, Erykah Badu and Toni Braxton. Ash Brown gets an exclusive with Keisha to discuss growing up in the industry, cultivating her voice and what she's up to today. This is by far one of the most entertaining interviews YET! Visit: www.KeishaJackson.com Follow: @KeishaJackson More on Keisha Jackson: Born in Brooklyn NY, Keisha is the daughter of legendary soul singer, Millie Jackson. At age 17, while pursuing a career in Entertainment Law, she began singing background for her mother. It was during this time Keisha decided to change her career path. After relocating to Atlanta, GA she was signed to Sony Music, where she recorded 2 self-titled albums. Keisha dabbled in Musical Theater for 4 years, but realized that she preferred the “musical” to the theatrical side of entertainment and chose to focus on studio performance. She soon became one of the most sought-after session vocalists in Atlanta and worked with La Reid and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds (LaFace Records) singing background on recordings with the likes of Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Aretha Franklin and later, Joss Stone's Introducing Joss Stone album. She is featured on Sleepy Brown's (Dungeon Family) underground masterpiece, “The Vinyl Room”, Da Brat's “Get Somebody”, Raphael Saadiq's “Live at the House Of Blues”, Funk Diva, Joi's “Co-Stars” and a sultry soulful duet with Anthony David, entitled “Lady”. As a live background performer, Keisha has toured with R&B Divas' Faith Evans, Angie Stone, Raphael Saadiq, George Clinton, Outkast and also performed at the Super Bowl with pop group No Doubt. Currently she is a background vocalist with Erykah Badu (11yrs) and Rap legend Big Boi (12+yrs) toured as a support vocalist on the Outkast 20th Anniversary Tour in 2014 and has recently added Johnny Gill's current Game Changer Tour to the list. Keisha has appeared on countless TV shows, including The Grammys, American Music Awards, Saturday Night Live, Chappelle's Show, MTV, Jimmy Kimmel Show, Late Night with Jay Leno, The Late Show with David Letterman and has also been seen on Dave Chappelle's Block Party, BET's Lyric Café and backing a variety of artists on many episodes of the Mo'Nique Show. Led by Mr. Ray Chew, Keisha was hired as vocal section leader of BET's Sunday Best season 2, which gave her the credibility and know-how to lead the vocal section for 3 consecutive years on BET/Centric's 2009-2011 Soul Train Awards (led by Musical Director, “Wizard” Jones). Ever-consistent yet ever-changing, Keisha has recently become co-host of Dash Radio's Soul Sisters alongside the daughters of James Brown and Issac Hayes. They can be heard every Thursday on Pure Soul station 5-7p EST. The legacy continues! Keisha is currently recording her third record, a Soul/Blues inspired effort for which she has released her first single Give You My All (available now). Keisha began her own vocal coaching agency, One Voice Entertainment, in 2000 and works to assist aspiring vocalists in the U.S. southern region and around the world. She also conducts voice workshops semi-annually to prepare vocalists for prospective tours and future performance opportunities. It was called Low Profile because there are people who don't need much more than great music and a room full of creative and open minded people, and there are people who are totally fabulous and maybe even famous who just want to be in an atmosphere where they need not care about who they are because they are having so much fun blending in to where they are. Low Profile was originally hosted and promoted by DeShawn, Myorr and Mark. That feeling of we're all in this together in a place where cool came easy could be felt by the warmth in the music. Many styles and genres are flowed through throughout the evening and all the music was conscientiously selected and woven to be that blanket of rhythm that mostly made you smile and want to dance. Joy and laughter were constants. Dub Reggae, that Jazzy 90s Hip Hop, sensual Deep House, eclectic Electronica, and Funk/Soul sensations all night led to many 4am lights on sing-a-longs to Stevie Wonder's "As". The 2nd chapter of Low Profile is set at the trailblazing Meatpacking District venue APT where the room was prettier and the sound was louder and crisper. The party had graduated to a larger and more stylish venue, however, because of APT's nondescript entrance, their embracing of the music format and their welcoming the Low Profile faithful, our party felt the same except with more space to dance and frolic. In 2015, Soho House (New York) opened a brand new club/event space called Vinyl. Considering that 2 of the best DJs of New York's Soho House are at home at the House weekly (with one of those DJs, Kevin, being a resident for more than 10 years) we are ecstatic that Soho House is inviting us to rekindle the vibe of Low Profile once more...on a Monday night, just like before. https://www.facebook.com/QoolMarv/ http://djqoolmarvsounds.podomatic.com/
