A COMPILATION OF MUSIC FROM THE QUEEN OF SOUL! Truly she needs no introduction.
Queen of Soul – Aretha Franklin bekam diesen Titel schon in den frühen 60er Jahren zugeschrieben. In 14 Tagen findet Ihr hier Teil 2. Peters Playlist: Songs of Faith (aufgenommen 1956, erschienen 1959 & 1965) Aretha (1961): Won't be long The Electrifying Aretha Franklin (1962): Nobody like you, Exactly like you, It's so heartbreakin‘, Rough lover The Tender, The Moving, The Swinging Aretha Franklin (1962): Try a little tenderness, Lover come back to me Unforgettable: A Tribute To Dinah Washington (1964): Cold, cold heart, Drinking again, Nobody knows the way I feel this morning, Evil gal blues, Soulville Running Out Of Fools (1964): Every little bit hurts, You'll lose a good thing Yeah!!!(1965): Muddy water, Without the one you love Take It Like You Give It (1967): Le Cross I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You (1967): das gesamte Album mit den Highlights Respect, I never loved a man, Save me Aretha Arrives (1967): Satisfaction, You are my sunshine, Going down slow, Baby, I love you Lady Soul (1968): das gesamte Album mit den Highlights Chain of fools, People get ready, (You make me feel like) A natural woman, Since you've been gone, Good to me as I am to you (feat. Aretha Franklin: Becoming the Boss of Your Life In this episode of Becoming with Angelina Watkins, talks about how Aretha Franklin was able to become the boss of her life after enduring a lot of childhood trauma. Aretha Franklin witnessed a lot and experienced a lot at a young age. There was trauma after trauma with no healing that impacted her greatly in her adulthood. After enduring divorced parents, mother dying, being raped, and an abusive, controlling father, she became self-destruction in her adult years. She was promiscuous, an alcoholic and suffered domestic violence in her marriage. Aretha's singing career was first controlled by her father and then her husband. Although, she found some fame and fortune it wasn't until she recorded Amazing Grace that was her best selling album and is still her best-selling album to this day. Despite her past, Aretha was able to find her voice and become the boss of her life. Beyoncé's latest album has been praised by the New York Times as “black queer bravado,” but the song “Heated” landed Queen B in hot water with cancel culture. The lyrics to the song contain the word “spaz,” a word that we learned is an “ableist slur” among the disabled community. Disabled people believe words matter and want to hold people to standards. Jason asks why the black community doesn't hold artists like Beyoncé to account when they use lyrics that denigrate themselves. “We're the only group with absolutely no standard. The entire rap music industry is built on the N-word. It is used repeatedly in nearly every successful commercial rap song. Rappers brag about killing n*****, raping n*****, robbing n*****, dissing n*****. No one cares. Beyoncé uses the N-word in 'Heated.' No one cares.” "Fearless" contributor Delano Squires joins the conversation to examine the impact of popular culture on communities and shares his thoughts on TericaStar, a Florida A&M coed that celebrated receiving her master's degree by posing nude on campus. Delano explains how “junkiepox” has infested a generation. Shemeka Michelle stops in to answer the question of the day: What is "black queer bravado"? Plus, she helps us make sense of the “Swim Thick” pool parties targeting plus-sized women. Over Aretha Franklin verschenen dit jaar de biografische speelfilm Respect en de tv-serie Genius. Tegelijkertijd verscheen er een overzichtsbox met daarop ook onuitgebrachte opnamen van de Queen Of Soul. Leo Blokhuis duikt in de vroege jaren van Aretha en vertelt tevens hoe zij de civil rights beweging van een paar klassieke songs voorzag.
“Respect” is a fine film; it compellingly depicts the formative years of one of America's most beloved recording and concert artists. But this is more than just a pretty picture. Is “Respect” the anecdote to CRT? “Respect” detonates the core tenets of critical race theory. “Respect” spans the early 1950s to the early 70s. We meet young Aretha as a little girl who sings to a group of adult guests in the Detroit home of her father, Baptist minister C. L. Franklin. Reverend Franklin's living room is filled with several dozen of his and Mama Franklin's friends and loved ones. They are sharply dressed professionals. The men sport suits. The women sparkle in gowns. They're elegant, poised, well spoken, educated, and prosperous. Even when things were terrible for so many African-Americans in the 1950s, they held their heads high, with dignity.Be sure to check out the episode page for extra features:https://gmicksmithsocialstudies.blogspot.com/2021/09/is-r-e-s-p-e-c-t-antidote-to-crt.htmlPlease consider purchasing “Respect” by Aretha Franklin.

Since the book is filled with photos, along with three essays by Ms. Ochs, we decide to play as many disparate songs by the Diva of divas to showcase just how amazing Aretha really was during her lifetime.Aretha Franklin's voice was legendary, unforgettable: deeply rooted in gospel, yet versatile enough to brilliantly interpret R&B, rock, soul, pop, and jazz standards, it fueled a six-decade career. Her vocal wallop was a mix of preaching, rebuke, and elation. From the languorous “I Never Loved a Man (the Way That I Love You),” to the funky “Chain of Fools,” to the fiercely feminist “Think,” to the definitive, demanding version of Otis Redding's “Respect,” Franklin's songs played out against the tumultuous sociopolitical backdrop of the late '60s like a soundtrack meant to set things right. Her accolades were many: she received the Kennedy Center honor in 1994, won 18 Grammys, was the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and performed for presidents and the Pope. Illustrated with 85 photos, and with insightful text from noted radio personality and author Meredith Ochs, Aretha explores the diva's life, from her formative years growing up in Detroit, to her singing and recording career from the 1950s until her untimely death in 2018, to her numerous honors, awards, and causes, including her advocacy for civil rights and the arts.Get the book hereDiggers, you can support the show by wearing cool rock n roll gear from TeePublic: https://www.teepublic.com/stores/rocknrollDisclaimer: The views expressed here by Shelley Sorenson are made in her capacity as a private citizen, and do not necessarily reflect the views of the San Francisco Public Library or the City of San Francisco.Call us at 650-822-ROCK or email at: info@rocknrollarchaeology.com
Enjoy this short but action packed piece taken from our first day in Detroit - this was at the Queen of Soul's memorial at The Charles H Wright museum. Aretha was BELOVED by Detroit and Detroit was beloved by Aretha. The pic you see of the gold coffin was taken at the actual funeral - we didn't get too much coverage there as we wanted to be respectful and it was quite honestly so overwhelming to see some of the greatest artists and activists of the Civil Rights movement right before our very eyes. Aretha - we love you Queen - RESPECT!

Aretha's talent transcended the written word and defied description. This is part one of a two part series focused mostly on the Atlantic years as there is no way to pack over six decades of music into two hours. Recorded live in the studio on the night she passed, Aug 16th, 2018.
The Queen of Soul, whose career spanned six decades, died on Thursday morning. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In Episode 10, we chat about Josh's extreme reaction to a BuzzFeed article, a Nicholas Cage movie marathon, why Kristen Bell was in tears recently, the groundbreaking Crazy Rich Asians (a tongue twister of a title if you were wondering) and the very sad passing of Aretha Franklin. For our Marquee Topic, we discuss the new crop of leading men in film (in the first of a two part series on the new wave of movie stars in Hollywood - part 2 on leading women is next week!). PLUS, in our teasers this week, Maureen shares a podcast that comes highly recommended by two of our most loyal listeners and Josh recommends a 25 year-old film starring Harrison Ford (a movie his colleague was VERY disappointed he hadn't seen). Aretha Franklin tributes; The Craziest True or False Game
Dr. Ramona Brockett & LanceScurv share their memories on the Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin at the time of her transition and homecoming in an upbeat joyous dialogue that celebrated an exemplary life that has touched countless human beings well over a half century in a way that was Heaven-sent to a world most often in a state of chaos. I also have to say that the chat room family in this particular episode shared so much love between each other and I have to give a shout out to all who were there as this is what social media should be all about! We have to much drama between our people online and this show will shine out bright to the world as an example of Black Love that should be the norm across cyberspace! Aretha was very involved in the civil rights movement in the 60's and 70's. Guest is movie critic Chris Hewitt.
The Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin is reported to be in a Detroit Michigan Hospital under hospice care surrounded by close friends and family as she struggles to remain alive. This caused me to reminisce on her stellar career as the greatest Soul Singer of all time with a signature voice that could rouse emotions from anyone no matter how cold their heart may be. The 76 year old icon has appeared frail in her recent performances last year all the while keeping her health concerns private. Her last performance was at an Elton John AIDS Foundation private gala last November of 2017. While many are saddened by this news, I encourage everyone to send positive energy to her in the form of your thoughts, memories and prayers as we should all do for her family and friends as I know that they have they weight of the world on their shoulders at this time. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lancescurv/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lancescurv/support
