I first met Tomas Estes, a  West Coast American (who opened Europe's first-ever Mexican restaurants starting in Amsterdam in 1976, and  co-founded Tequila Ocho in 2008) almost twenty years ago. We last had dinner and drinks in Athens in December 2020.The Tequila Ambassador V.O.(link to preorder below) is the "director's cut" of Tomas' book The Tequila Ambassador, first published in 2012.  Five years ago Tomas started working on an update with his son Jesse, his business partner Phil Bayly, and Mitch Wilson, who had edited Phil's own book, Agave Love. Tomas passed away in 2021, and the guys finished the book. The book is a beauty, twice the length of the original, incalculably more photos, recipes, agave spirit rules & regulations, essays about Tomas, about Cafe Pacifico, about Tequila Ocho, about tequila personalities and lots, lots, lots more, all in a gorgeous high-quality WonkPress book. Me, Phil, Mitch and Jesse had a 3-continent 4-timezone chat about Tomas, the book, Cafe Pacifico, Tequila Ocho, the agave spirits business, Pacifico's lemon juice margaritas, grinding corn for tortillas in the basement of an Amsterdam townhouse and a loooot more. Enjoy, and raise a glass of good tequila to my mate Tomas; he's raising one in the big cantina in the sky, right now. (Many thanks to Rachel Harrison Communications in NYC for suggesting this episode, and for getting me a pre-publication proof to read).  Pre-order The Tequila Ambassador V.O.: https://www.wonkpress.com/products/the-tequila-ambassador-vo(UK & EU pre-orders coming soon)The Tequila Ambassador V.O. on IG: https://www.instagram.com/tequilaambassadorvo/?hl=enJesse Estes on IG: https://www.instagram.com/jesseocho/Phil Bayly on IG: https://www.instagram.com/philbayly/?hl=enMitch Wilson on IG: https://www.instagram.com/mitchsaidthis/?hl=enTequila Ocho on IG: https://www.instagram.com/tequilaocho/ Get in touch with Duff!Podcast business enquiries: consulting@liquidsolutions.org (PR friends: we're only interested in having your client on if they can talk about OTHER things than their prepared speaking points or their new thing, whatever that is, for a few hours. David Crosby was famous for nearly 60 years, a celebrity sustained by records, tours, brushes with the law and serial disagreements with old pals and collaborators (he was the very definition of a non-team player). We look back fondly at various stops along the way - his upscale background, his role in the Byrds, his ‘Will Scarlet in Robin Hood' haircut and unsexy cape ensemble, CS&N as the soundtrack to a West Coast American fantasy, the time the Beatles played him the unreleased A Day In The Life, a public fallout with Neil Young and a tuxedoed Graham Nash's last show with the Hollies with the piss-taking Crosby in the dressing-room. Plus “It's Not You It's Me” – classic records that leave us cold: fight-starting suggestions include albums by Patti Smith (“that bawling harridan with her jive muse”), Nirvana, Love, Neil Young, Cat Stevens, Arctic Monkeys and the Beatles. Erik Davis is an author, scholar and connoisseur of the weird. He’s spent over 20 years exploring fringe movements, occult covens and liminal cyberspaces, finding some time in between to become one of the world’s leading authorities on West Coast American counter-culture, writing about everything from California’s alternative spiritual groups to Burning Man. Davis was born during the Summer of Love within a stone’s throw of San Francisco. He grew up in North County, Southern California, and spent a decade on the East Coast, where he studied literature and philosophy at Yale and spent six years in the freelance trenches of Brooklyn and Manhattan before moving to San Francisco, where he currently resides. He is the author of four books: Nomad Codes: Adventures in Modern Esoterica (Yeti, 2010), The Visionary State: A Journey through California’s Spiritual Landscape (Chronicle, 2006), with photographs by Michael Rauner, and the 33 1/3 volume Led Zeppelin IV (Continuum, 2005). His first and best-known book remains TechGnosis: Myth, Magic, and Mysticism in the Age of Information (Crown, 1998), a cult classic of visionary media studies that has been translated into five languages and recently republished by North Atlantic Press. He has contributed chapters on art, music, technoculture, and contemporary spirituality to over a dozen books, including Suzanne Treister’s HFT: The Gardener(Black Dog), Future Matters: the Persistence of Philip K. Dick (Palgrave), Sound Unbound: Writings on Contemporary Multimedia and Music Culture (MIT, 2008), AfterBurn: Reflections on Burning Man (University of New Mexico, 2005), Rave Ascension (Routledge, 2003), and Zig Zag Zen (Chronicle, 2002). In addition to his many forewords and introductions, Davis has contributed articles and essays to a variety of periodicals, including Bookforum, Arthur, Artforum, Slate, Salon, Gnosis, Rolling Stone, the LA Weekly, Spin, Wired and the Village Voice. A vital speaker, Davis has given talks at universities, media art conferences, and festivals around the world. He has taught seminars at the UC Berkeley, UC Davis, the California Institute of Integral Studies, and Rice University, as well as workshops at the New York Open Center and Esalen. He has been interviewed by CNN, NPR, the New York Times, and the BBC, and appeared in numerous documentaries, as well as in Craig Baldwin’s underground film Specters of the Spectrum. He wrote the libretto for and performed in “How to Survive the Apocalypse,” a Burning Man-inspired rock opera. He has hosted the podcast Expanding Mind on the Progressive Radio Network since 2010, and earned his PhD in Religious Studies from Rice University in 2015. techgnosis.com eastforest.org/podcast

The latest in my podcast series, investigating the Current State of Music. DJ Format found fame in the earlier noughties and a DJ and producer, bringing out albums like "Music for the Mature B-Boy" bringing a fresh cut and paste approach not really heard from a UK producer. Introding Canadian Born rapper Abdominal, his beats and flow felt more like a West Coast American release. Supporting Jurassic 5 at Brixton opened the door for Formats style and gained him widespread coverage from Radio 1 and beyond. Fabric gave him the opportunity to release a DJ mix as part of their coveted Fabriclive series, bringing to the fore his impeccable DJing skills and bringing longevity to his career. Further albums as himself and with the Simonsound cemented his musicianship, from straight up hip hop, to jazz and beyond. Djing regularly around the world, putting together compilation albums, producing new music, Format never stops in his quest for sonic perfection. His latest project is putting out a release which he hopes can generate some funds for a friend with cancer, which you can find more out here: www.youcaring.com/gisellechamberlain-1054141
