This episode is brought to you by the Insta360 X5 action cameraThis week, James is joined by none other than Bradley Wiggins and cricket legend Ian Botham, who on 15th and 16th September will be riding the Sir Bradley Wiggins Cycle Challenge for Beefy's Charity Foundation (sign up to ride here, more details below). In this episode, Ian and Brad compare notes on 1980s cricket versus 2010s cycling (spoiler: there was more beer and misbehaviour in cricket), their experiences in the limelight, their greatest achievements, and how to deal with pressure, from the legendary 1981 Ashes to the 2012 Tour de France and Olympics. Brad opens up about his time at Team Sky, tells us what he really thinks of the Dave Brailsford regime and the cycling media, and gives a candid account of his struggles on the bike and off it. Meanwhile, Ian recounts sharing changing room beers with the Aussies, why he was never into sledging, how to keep a cool head in the middle of a storm, and the long-term impact of his charity work.Interview begins at 7.00------This episode is brought to you by Insta360, the 360-degree filming action camera specialists. Check out its latest the all-new, road-cycling-perfect Insta360 X5 here. And don't forget to use the code Cyclist at the checkout for a free Insta360 X5 handlebar mount.Beefy's Charity Foundation was founded by Ian Botham, and traces it roots back to 1985 and Ian's incredible 900-mile walk from John O'Groats to Land's End, which raised over £1million for research into leukemia. This year marks 40 years and countless millions more raised since that walk, so to celebrate - and to raise more money - Wiggo and Beefy will be riding from Portsmouth to Lord's Cricket Ground on 15th and 16th September and they invite you to come along too (see the link above, or go to beefysfoundation.org). Prices start from £150 to ride, or sign up to the whole shebang including hotels, a Q+A with Wiggo and Beefy at the end of day one and a sit down dinner with the guys in the Long Room at Lord's Cricket Ground on day two. All money raised will go to Blood Cancer UK, Breakthrough Type 1 (diabetes), Yorkshires Brain Tumour Charity and the Batten Disease Family Association CIO.------------------ Did you know Cyclist is also stunning monthly print magazine?Subscribe now at store.cyclist.co.uk/cycpod and get every issue for less than in the shops, delivered straight to your door. And it's also a rather lovely website about everything road cycling and gravel. The European dream is over! But the question is was it because we ran out of ideas, steam or luck? Sam, Kish and Wiggo weigh it all up as they discuss defeat to Everton, Marco Silva and his future, and whether we can salvage our own season by at least ruining Brentford's.
Over the years, Tim Wigmore has penned several superb books, and this might be his best yet. Joining Daniel Norcross at lunch during a recent Surrey game, he sat down to discuss the book he wrote because it is the one he would like to read – always a good place to start. From Test cricket's conception, he maps the lot: scarcity and status, empire to expansion, racism and rivalries, existential angst to equipment. It's underpinned by extensive interviews with some of the greatest to have ever done it, exploring the intrigue of a form of the game that we hold so dear yet would not emerge if it were invented today. Life in the Peloton is proudly brought to you by MAAP Guys, the Giro is almost upon us! This weekend, the 3 week beast that I raced twice in my career kicks off over in Albania of all places. The start list is absolutely stacked, with the likes of Roglič, Ayuso, Bernal, and heaps more huge riders going toe to toe to try to take home one of the most iconic jerseys in cycling; the Maglia Rosa. One rider who's going to throw his hat into the ring and have a crack at this year's GC is the young Canadian talent Derek Gee - and I'm stoked to have him on this month's pod to talk all things Giro, preview the race, and answer a few questions sent in by you guys! Derek's been a pro on the road for just 3 years, After spending his early years racing on the track, he burst onto the scene at the 2023 Giro d'Italia where he finished 2nd on 4 stages and spent more time in the breakaway than he did in the peloton! I think I managed to make it into the breakaway at a grandy once in my whole career - it's bloody hard - but Derek made it look easy, and absolutely ripped that race to pieces. Although he didn't come home with a stage win, he sure made a name for himself and put himself up there as one of the most exciting racers to keep an eye on. The year after, he made his debut at the big one; the Tour de France! Going into that race, Derek was looking to repeat his exploits from the ‘23 Giro and poach a few stages, and it was great to hear how this focus shifted to GC over the course of the race, leading to him finishing in the top 10 overall; an absolutely huge ride, that really proved he can do it all! Derek's a cool guy. Born in Ottawa, I loved hearing about how inspired he was by the Canadian World Tour races the GP's Quebec and Montreal, and how that led him down the path of professional racing, eventually coming over to Europe and joining Israel Premier Tech - the team he'll be riding for until at least 2028! After chatting a bit about his career, and how he's feeling ahead of the 2025 Giro that kicks off this weekend, we preview this year's race and take a bit of a look at how Derek's going to approach it. He's been at the front of races for long enough now to be heading to the start as one of the favourites; so he's definitely feeling the pressure! It's been a while, but I wanted to bring you - the listeners - in on this interview, so we wrapped up by answering some of the questions you all sent in over the last week. Does Derek see other ex track stars like G and Wiggo as inspiration? What interval session does he use to get race ready? What's his favourite Celine Dion Song? I ask Derek all these questions, and more, and he's got some cracking answers. I loved chatting to Derek. As well as being a mega talent, he's a really chilled out, humble guy and no doubt one of the most exciting racers in the pelo. I can't wait to see him race the Giro - the most beautiful of all the Grand Tours - and reckon he's a real Maglia Rosa contender. The Giro? More like the Gee-ro……..right? Enjoy this ep, guys. Sit back, relax, grab yourself a limoncello and some gelato, and get excited for the Giro with me and Derek. Cheers! In the 8th Century an exorcism was performed on a 16 year old girl. The girl began to speak in Latin, which she did not know, claiming to be a demon named Wiggo. The demon claimed to have been roaming the countryside doing terrible things because the lack of piousness and Christian behavior of the people and their leaders allowed his presence. Was this a case of demonic possession or a cover for the priest and chronicler to publish a critique of the powers that be under cover of claiming it was spoken by a demon. Take a listen and see what you think.

Even in this northernmost city, we have a taxi service which helps us around during winter storms and getting us to and from the airport to escape the cold and snow. Wiggo Antonsen is one of these drivers and joins us to share his experience as 'The Northernmost Famous Taxi Driver in the World'! After being featured on the BBC TV Series 'Ice Town: Life on the Edge' he has fallen into celebrity life. Each week tourists recognize him as one of their favourite personalities from the series, asking for selfies and quoting him on his tour of Longyearbyen's history, stories, and forty-two kilometers stretch of road. (17.11.2017) Pripravte si pukance, sága Gaimon - Cancellara napísala svoju ďalšiu kapitolu. Uvidíme, kam to až jej autori poženú. Foto: Facebook/Phil Gaimon

The Hour Record was broken by a beardless Wiggo and Adam Myerson raced his last Philly International. The best episode ever? Probably, since one person was particular was missing.
It's Part 2 of our Spring Classics preview with Whit Yost! Whit is a contributor to Bicycling Magazine, Editor-in-Chief of Pavé Blog (where mattio has contributed a number of pieces himself) and America's foremost Spring Classics pundit. This week, Whit tells us which riders to watch, and we make some wild picks for the coming big races - just in time for Milan-San Remo!
Are recent events at the Critérium du Dauphiné a sign of things to come in July, or are Alberto Contador, Vincenzo Nibali and Tejay van Garderen keeping their cards close to their chest? That’s the question Al Hinds, Anthony Tan and RIDE Cycling Review’s Rob Arnold, back after finishing off his twelfth official Tour de France guide, first ask themselves in this week’s Cycling Central podcast. From what we saw in the opening time trial and first mountain top finish, it appears the defending champ Chris Froome is so confident he doth not need team-mates… Well, not Bradley Wiggins, anyway. Or maybe he’s riding that way to tell his boss Dave Brailsford that he doesn’t need a former Tour winner by his side to repeat his feat of yesteryear. Logic says you would absolutely want a guy like Wiggo – back to his 2012 best, says the Kid from Kilburn. Yet logic doesn’t seem to be part of the conversation at Team Sky when it comes to his selection. We talk about that, too. Something not on every Aussie cycling fan’s lips, however, is the National Road Series. Sadly, unless there is nothing else on, our domestic road calendar is all but forgotten. In a blog this week, Alex says it should be a summer thing and Rob tends to agree. But if it was, Tanny thinks it would curtail a prospective rider’s ability to score a Pro Conti or WorldTour contract since teams don’t look for new blood in March or April.
The latest edition of the Cycling Central Podcast, where we're joined by special guests Matt Keenan and Dave Mckenzie to talk the week that was. Regular Anthony Tan returns, with Al Hinds hosting. The focus this week is the Giro d'Italia, but after the phenomenal response to Matt Keenan's midweek blog on cycling in Sydney we talk cycle safety and we end in sunny California talking Wiggo-Dennis.
Ruminating Roubaix, Portents from País Vasco, Cycle of Safety, A Golden Amstel? They are down, but not out. Al Hinds and Anthony Tan are not in showroom condition (are they ever?), but that does not stop them from joining Phil Gomes – who finally has an excuse not to go near them – in this week’s Cycling Central podcast. The trio begin with ruminating over an edge-of-your-seat Paris-Roubaix last Sunday. Did Terpstra get lucky; was Vanmarcke the strongest but not the smartest; could Wiggo have won; was Cancellara off his A-game… What can their fine minds extract from the cobbles with the benefit of hindsight? He tonked ‘em in Tirreno, Contador proceeded to do the same in País Vasco. But the Basque Country tour was also notable for riders like Kwiatkowski, Valverde and Wout Poels who are looking good for a shot at Amstel Gold this Sunday, and the steady return to form of Cadel Evans, the Giro d’Italia partenza now just a fortnight away. The war between cyclists and motorists made the mainstream this week with a report on the ABC’s 730 program that focused on casualties of the road – and unsurprisingly, they were not the ones on four wheels. We get on the line with Fairfax journalist and author of the popular ‘On your bike’ blog Michael O’Reilly to discuss its impact. To cap off proceedings, we preview The Netherlands’ most prestigious bike battle, the Amstel Gold Race, on this Sunday and broadcast LIVE on SBS ONE. The bar has been raised (and being Amstel Gold, the bar is also open) and there are appears to be more potential protagonists than ever this Spring; Hinds, Tan and Gomes go crystal ball gazing to pick a winner that will probably end up losing. The podcast is also available directly on SoundCloud here, but if you'd prefer the direct link so that you your podcast reader updates automatically and you can listen at your leisure, just copy this (http://feeds.soundcloud.com/users/soundcloud:users:10274030/sounds.rss) link into your podcast player.
