Who is John?John "The Milkman" Mielke is a pioneer when it comes to bringing radio to the world wide web. John has two websites that any radio-head should be tuned into: MilkmanUnlimited.com is an incredible resource for keeping up with radio industry news. It also curates work for voiceover artists, including a few you may recognize from this show's credits, like Mary Anne Ivison and Matt Fogarty. On the other hand, BlastTheRadio.com is basically a 24-hour radio station without the "radio station" part. Meaning, there's no callsign or frequency to tune into. It's all online, but it still looks, feels and sounds just like your favourite radio stations. We discuss both sites, as well as the importance of the radio community in John's life (and his importance to the community). We also talk about John's public battles with depression and anxiety, the ways he's given back to local charity resources that helped him, and his plan to become an even more involved community service partner. Here's a hint: It involves a souped-up RV.Despite Milkman Unlimited being the premiere place to learn about radio layoffs for the last 30 years, John remains optimistic about radio's future, which I suppose means the rest of us should be too.If you want to know more about John, keep an eye out for his aptly-titled book, "Who Is John?" It'll go in-depth on some of the radio stories that made him who he is today, and should be coming out soon.John is still an active voiceover artist and radio host himself. You can catch him Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm on WSRQ in Sarasota, Florida.A transcript of the show is available here,Thanks to our supporters!Nlogic - TV & Radio Audience Data SolutionsMary Anne Ivison at Ivison Voice. - Make her the female voice of your radio station.Matt Fogarty Voiceovers - It's great to have Matt back for 2024 supporting our show. American Forces Vietnam Network (AFVN) was created as a morale-boosting military radio station for servicemen and women in Vietnam. AFVN broadcast 24 hours a day, seven days a week for over 10 years; it began broadcasting on August 15, 1962 and ended in March of 1973. At the height of American involvement in the war, Armed Forces Vietnam Network served more than 500,000 fighting men and women at one time. Perhaps the best-known program became the morning "Dawn Buster" program, thanks to the popularity of the sign-on slogan "Gooooood Morning, Vietnam" (which was initiated by Adrian Cronauer (1965) and later became the basis for the film Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) starring Robin Williams). “Good Morning, Vietnam!” (the movie) earned Williams an Oscar nomination as best actor and was his breakout film performance. Among the notable people who were AFVN disc jockeys were "Scotty" Brink, Pat Sajak (Wheel of Fortune - TV), and Denny Woytek (now on WSRQ radio in Sarasota, Florida). ----- Join the conversation on Facebook at ----- https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008232395712 ---- or by email at ---- dannymemorylane@gmail.com ----- You’ll hear: 1) I Get Around by The Beach Boys 2) Nowhere To Run by Martha & The Vandellas 3) Game Of Love by Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders 4) Sugar & Spice by The Searchers 5) Liar, Liar by The Castaways 6) I Got You (I Feel Good) by James Brown & The Famous Flames 7) Baby, Please Don't Go by Them 8) Danger Heartbreak Dead Ahead by The Marvelettes 9) Five O'Clock World by The Vogues 10) California Sun by The Rivieras 11) Ballad Of A Thin Man (Mr. Jones) by The Grass Roots 12) Don't Worry Baby by The Beach Boys 13) In The Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett 14) It's Alright by Adam Faith 15) Yeah, Yeah by Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames 16) My Boyfriend's Back by The Angels 17) Puff (The Magic Dragon) by Peter, Paul And Mary 18) Get a Job by The Silhouettes 19) You Keep Me Hangin' On by The Supremes 20) Rawhide by Frankie Laine 21) The Warmth Of The Sun by The Beach Boys 22) What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong 23) Cast Your Fate To The Wind by Sounds Orchestral

One of the toughest jobs for which so many people are finding themselves in the field of caregiving. More than 15 million people are taking care of those that are 65 years and older in the USA. Heidi Godman of WSRQ interviews Dr. Odell Glenn Glenn for 22 minutes and 10 seconds, who is a caregiver and author of "Caregiving-The Inspirational Manual". Heidi Godman is also a caregiver herself. Both of her parents have Parkinson's disease. Unlike Heid Godman, Dr. Odell Glenn actually lives with the care recipients to which both have different degrees of dementia. Amidst all of the ups and down, (income reduction, isolated socially, hard physical work), Dr. Odell Glenn explains how he does all he does each day while caregiving for 2 parents by himself. It's not easy but faith and hope give him strength each day. Dr. Glenn, at the time of the interview, is on the verge of graduating with his Ph.D. in chemical engineering. The writing of the book was very meditative and therapeutic. Prayer, Bible reading, scripture, community, jogging, walking were practices that helped him not burn out via all of the social, emotional, and physical problems that can develop. Create a balanced life to sustain and endure the long journey. Big hugs to all full-time caregivers.
