Happy holidays. With Gemini celebrating in the Southern Hemisphere, and Las Vegas in holiday mode, Al and Rich avoided the temptation to take a week off, and put in just enough effort to create an abbreviated episode. But it's still packed with good stuff – especially if you're a fan of Michael Mina. Al talked to Mina just hours before the new Bourbon Steak in the Four Seasons resort opened its doors to the public. But before we even get to that, Al will tell you about his experience getting bites in the Bourbon Steak lounge. Other restaurant reports this week include visits to William B's in the Suncoast, Brooklyn Bowl, New York Bagel and Bakery, and The George Sportsmen's Lounge. And Al drops by The Gambler pop-up at Amari, and speaks to Mina Group veteran Chef Adam Sobel and Amari GM Jason Rocheleau.
Eating together is an integral part of Odd Fellowship and has a long tradition of inclusion within our Order, from formal banquets at Grand and Sovereign Grand Lodge meetings to sandwich platters during a Degree Rally, to tried-and-true fraternal staples like spaghetti feeds, pancake breakfasts, and pie auctions. Mike, Ainslie, and Toby discuss these various modes of eating and other ways that food helps bolster the fellowship of Odd Fellowship. The Shoutout goes to another new lodge in Florida, this time the re-chartered Suncoast #69. Word has it that another lodge institution will be taking place in Florida early next year. In their Odd Podge, Toby shares the story of a wedding guest who asked for an application to the lodge, Mike previews the chartering of a Rebekah Lodge in Charleston, and Ainslie tells the somewhat winding tale of two tattoo artists from New Orleans who went to Winston-Salem and discovered Odd Fellowship in the process.

Every year at Sundance, we aim to speak with indie filmmaking teams who have collaborated on some of our favorite movies. Learning from these successful collaborations can help us in our own future projects. Let's take a look at the collaboration between filmmakers Francesca Silvestri and Laura Chinn, and how their undeniable chemistry helped them in the production of the film, Suncoast. In today's episode, No Film School's GG Hawkins, speaks with Francesca Silvestri and Laura Chinn to discuss: Feeling both nervous and excited for the wide release of the film Not having to sell the film at Sundance Never taking no for an answer What Laura and Francesca love about working together Challenges with shooting in certain locations Tapping into the 2000s nostalgia without overdoing it Seeing younger casts at Sundance this year Being at shocked at how many writers don't write Trusting that feedback is constructive and helpful Why self-development is so helpful for filmmakers Memorable Quotes “There are so many that have come into my life, that I will never work with again after this experience.” [6:36] “The 2000s in my opinion were not inherently cool.” [10:54] “When they tell you it's bad and they give you a bunch of notes, cry hard and then move on.” [17:28] “When you do write, you do get better at it. When you do listen to other people's feedback, you get better at it.” [17:40] “Work on you man, because everything will get better. Everything will get easier. Writing, directing, producing, whatever it is.” [20:53] Mentioned: Suncoast - Streaming on Hulu, Feb 9, 2024 Find No Film School everywhere: On the Web https://nofilmschool.com/ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/nofilmschool Twitter https://twitter.com/nofilmschool YouTube https://www.youtube.com/user/nofilmschool Instagram https://www.instagram.com/nofilmschool Send us an email with questions or feedback: podcast@nofilmschool.com! "Suncoast" had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, where the film's lead star, Nico Parker, won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Performance. Based on first-time feature Director/Writer Laura Chinn's own life, the film is a dramatic, humane, and, at times, funny experience that received positive reviews from critics for its performances from Parker, Laura Linney, and Woody Harrelson and is making audiences cry all over the world. Laura was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about her work on the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now available to stream on Hulu from Searchlight Pictures. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
