Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken, in an open and honest conversation called, Stop Explaining Yourself & Live Your Life. My guest, Christina Glickman, is a managing director of Beautycounter, mom of FOUR, TEDxspeaker, and best-selling author of Xtra: The Art of Being. In this week's episode, Christina and I talk about living your life unapologetically in midlife and being unapologetically confident. That means say f#*k it to the inner voice that might be telling you that you're not good enough, pretty enough, whatever, and just doing you. Christina tells us all of the ways that she's learned to be confident and to live by her own playbook, something we women can ALL take a page from. We are going to dig deep into the details of Christina's journey, in her “midlife remix”, in her second half of life. Get up close and personal! Some highlights: -Making choices each day to feel joy -The power of community & championing other women -Honoring your relationship with yourself first -Moving forward even in fear -Allowing yourself & your children to sit in discomfort -Switching from a performative mindset to an in-the-moment mindset -How Christina prepared for her TEDx Talk Looking forward to connecting with you! The biggest joy is watching someone uncover who they are and watching them uncover it. It's vulnerable to put yourself out there. There is no shortcut, we show up we do the work, we fail and we keep going. The more we can share our stories the better. Extra, the art of being. Show up and do a little bit moreWhatever I'm doing, put full heart and soul into it. The idea that how you present yourself in the world is so much of who you are. Oprah meets GucciExtra is about showing up in the world and give a little more Extra is doing one thing today that is hanging over me so that I can get it done. Like scheduling the mammograms that I don't want to do. What can I do to get my space feeling better? The grind and hustle is one I don't want to prescribe to. How do I honor my relationship with myself more? Sometime extra is exploring doing the class I'm interested in. I don't want to turn around in 10 years and be exactly where I am. Feel a mindset of getting the best out of life that I can get. What give you joy? That's your success metrics Extra is not being the loudest in the room. When you are able to show up as yourself that is part of how you serve. If we don't allow ourselves to shine brightly we don't give others the permission to shine brightly. When we step into our full power, it give others permission but it allows us to serve others. Sharing your own journey so that you can see the messy complicated steps. If you know me you know my intentionIt takes a lot of practice to show up as yourself. If we are putting ourselves out there in the world, we could be perfect and we are still going to encounter people seeing us as they are not as we are. We have to assume good intentions for others. I've decided to stay in my laneI'm never going to hand you three steps to greatness because it's how you want to show up in the world. If we look to the past, women are the backbone of our society and they are the same collective group that will save us. The process of TEDx is who you get to become in the process. Why is confidence important? If you don't feel worthy enough to show up in the world as yourself you'll never get to achieve anything. We come into this world with a full cup. We are given identities and badges that shape who we are and the world that chips away at it. There is no shame in the lack of confidence that we have, but once we become clear as to why we aren't confident in our own skin, then we can work on it. Ultimately in relationships and parenting if you're not confident enough you can't show up confidently in the world as you are. It's about showing up confidently. It is the catalyst to so much. Christina was doing her book for her. Evolve and repeatYour story mattersStrong loving women who want a container to be held. Life is so hard. It only occurred to me 6-9 months ago that I wasn't supposed to do this alone. We need each other, a coach, a mentor a group. Find your whatever! A place to dip in and out. We all move through things. Go for it, figure it out. There is space for everybody. There is no original ideasIf it's painful you're doing it right. You need the nudge and the help. Anyone who doesn't think it's that hard for anyone might be wrongIf we don't feel the pain in the process, we don't get to see the bloom. "Here is what I know. That I don't know. There is power in the unknown. Sit in the I don't know. It's a confident place to be. Trust me." -Christina Glickman. This week, Erin sits down with Christina Glickman, speaker and author of the bestselling book, "Xtra: The Art of Being", to find out just what it means to be unapologetically confident. And a little "xtra" too. They get straight into it discussing authenticity, Christina's book, and her life to this point. How she got to where she is, the steps she took, and all those things she didn't do that got her there. We often talk about choices we made that led us somewhere, but not the things we didn't do that led us here, or the things we chose not to do. Christina is a form believer in serving yourself before others, and that's not a selfish viewpoint, it's a necessary step to ensure your own happiness and success. Erin Hatzikostas asks Christina to talk about her younger years, if she struggled with who she was and where she was going. One moment stands out: being told that her ACT test scores weren't good enough, and she should reconsider her life plans (a fairly daunting conversation for a young student.) A big turning point for Christina though was getting into advertising, entering a world where you do have to fake it (a bit) until you make it. Erin asks about the loss of Christina's parents, how it changed the trajectory of her life. Christina explains the affect her parents had on her when they were alive, how they inspired her and shaped her. But, also, how the pain and suffering she experienced formed her into who she is now. This leads into a conversation on parenting, with Erin asking Christina if she has any advice from her own experience of parenthood. They discuss Christina's hair, and the funny story that led to a style that defines her (or does she define her hair?!) Christina talks about how being your authentic self can cause people to think you're trying to make a statement, when actually you're trying to not make a statement. You're just trying to be: you. Erin poses the question: is it more important to find out who you are, or define who you want to be in the future? For Christina, knowing who you are is the first step to help define where you are going. You have to know yourself before you know your potential. Erin digs in further, asking what pisses her off, what steps does she take to become less apologetic and more confident, and what steps does she suggest other people take to get where they want to be. Christina has some tough love messages for anyone that feels stuck. To end, Erin asks the most important question of all: Where does Christina shop for her attire? You'll have to tune in to find out! When we hear the phrase ‘small talk', it often elicits an emotional response. Your eyes may sink back into the back of your head, thinking about awkward conversations in line at the grocery store. The older we get, the less tolerant we become for interactions that don't feed our soul or spark our interest in some way. But what if we saw small talk as an opportunity, or the proverbial foot in the door for genuine human connection? In this episode, Christina shows us why not to dread small talk and gives an example of how small talk can quickly evolve into thought-provoking conversation. In this episode of XTRA:How small talk can be an invitation for moreA story that demonstrates the power of small talkThe power of authentic, open-ended questionsConnect with Christina:Check out her Instagram: @christinaglickmanWatch Christina's TEDx talk on women reclaiming their voices: TEDx Talk Join the Xtra membership community or inquire about 1x1 time with Christina Click HerePurchase her best selling book: Xtra: The Art of Being Find her on LinkedinConnect with Christina on clean beauty: beautycounter.com/christinaglickmanThis show is produced by Soulfire Productions

Have you stopped to think about how the lives of others are impacting you throughout your day? Are you often putting others down, for no good reason? The truth is that we all can get into negative thought cycles from time to time–this is a sign that we're not well ourselves. Do you ever stop to think about the energy behind your words? Are you mindful of the language you use with your family and friends, the barista at Starbucks, or even the repairman who's fixing your sink? Words are our most powerful weapon. When used carefully, we can use them to lift up the people around us and potentially shift the course of someone's life. But, in order to do this, we must first use words to champion ourselves. It is then that we can truly harness all the beauty and power that words hold and begin using them for good.In this episode of XTRA:Being mindful of the power of wordsSome stories highlighting how words can be hurtfulThe beauty in the fact that the right words can change someone's experienceConnect with Christina:Check out her Instagram: @christinaglickmanWatch Christina's TEDx talk on women reclaiming their voices: TEDx Talk Join the Xtra membership community or inquire about 1x1 time with Christina Click HerePurchase her best selling book: Xtra: The Art of Being Find her on LinkedinConnect with Christina on clean beauty: beautycounter.com/christinaglickmanThis show is produced by Soulfire Productions
Do you wake up every morning in a state of emergency? Ready for the worst of the worst, prepared to save the world and everyone in it? Some of us feel this more than others, but, the truth is, we've all been here before. As time goes on, and we gain more and more life experience, we learn to expect these emergency states to arrive in all different shapes and sizes. As humans, we love habits and routine. It's not in our natural ‘pretty mode' to really seek out change. Amidst change we're constantly pushing up against something that isn't exactly easy. For some of us, being known as a ‘people pleaser' is an honor. That means everyone knows we're kind and helpful, right? And who wouldn't want that?
