This is the Catchup on 3 Things by The Indian Express and I'm ichha Sharma.Today is the 28th of November and here are the headlines. The Lok Sabha passed a resolution today to extend the tenure of the Joint Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill till the last day of the Budget session next year. Jagdambika Pal, Chairman of the Joint Committee, moved a motion stating, “That this House do extend time for the presentation of the Report of the Joint Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, up to the last day of the Budget Session, 2025.” The Lok Sabha approved the motion with a voice vote. The Centre had referred the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, tabled on 8th of August, to the Committee to scrutinise the Bill following the Opposition's objections. The panel's tenure was set to conclude on November 29. The CBI in an operation with the NIA and Interpol has brought from Rwanda a member of Pakistan-based terror group Lash-kar-e-Taiba who had an Interpol Red Notice against him for a terror offence in Bengaluru today. The officials said, Salman Rehman Khan, an alleged member of the internationally proscribed terrorist organisation, had assisted in providing arms, ammunition and explosives to further terrorist activities in Bengaluru. A CBI spokesperson said in a statement quote “The Global Operations CBI has closely coordinated with the NIA and Interpol National Central Bureau – Key gali for the return to India from Rwanda of Salman Rehman Khan, wanted by the NIA for terror-related offences,” unquote.West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today condemned the arrest of Hindu ISKCON monk Chinmay Krishna Das in Bangladesh, saying that she will support whatever decision the Centre takes on the issue. Banerjee said, quote “Attacks on any religion are condemnable, we always condemn that. I talked to the ISKCON head of this state twice after the incident. But it is an international matter. We can't interfere with the Centre's decision… but we can condemn this attack,” unquote. The West Bengal BJP also started demonstrations against the arrest, with party MLAs marching to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission office and meeting officials. The state unit also announced that they will block all the Indo-Bangla borders in West Bengal next Monday. The ceasefire deal between Israel and Lebanon based Hezbollah militant group has come into effect and thousands of people from war-torn southern Lebanon have started to return to their homes as fear looms on both sides whether the ceasefire will hold. Israel continued its barrage of attacks on Beirut and in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, killing at least 42 people until a ceasefire came into effect at 4am on Wednesday. Displaced people of Lebanon were seen driving stacked cars with personal belongings and returning to the southern part of the country, despite warnings from the Israeli army that they should stay away from the area until the Israeli forces remain over there. After the Maha Vikas Aghadi's dismal performance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena (UBT) in Pune is likely to insist that the party contest the long-delayed civic polls alone. The city units of the Congress and the NCP, however, are keen on continuing the alliance. Elections to the Pune Municipal Corporation were last held in 2017. With the new government set to be sworn in soon, the long-delayed civic elections are likely to be held in the next few months. Though the MVA enjoyed success in the Lok Sabha elections by winning 31 of the 48 seats in the state, it only won 46 seats in the Assembly elections. Despite the poor performance, however, Prashant Jagtap, Pune NCP chief, said that he believed the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena (UBT) should contest the PMC elections as MVA.This was the Catch Up on 3 Things by The Indian Express.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, the Maha Vikas Agadi (MVA) won 30 out of the 48 seats, while the Maha Yuti could get only 17 seats. But in the just concluded Assembly elections, the Maha Yuti won a landslide, with 235 out of the 288 seats. The Maha Yuti alliance's main constituent, the BJP alone won 132 seats, with the other two, the (Ajit Pawar-led) NCP and the (Eknath Shinde-led) Shiv Sena garnering 41 and 57 seats respectively. None of the MVA parties could win enough seats to even qualify for the position of leader of the Opposition – the first time this has happened in six decades. The Shiva Sena (Uddhav Bal Thackeray) got 20 seats, the Congress won 16, and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) won 10 seats respectively. So, what changed so dramatically in a matter of five months – from June to November 2024 -- that the Maha Yuti swept the state? How serious are the MVA's complaints that question a post-5pm voter surge and the data mismatches between votes polled and counted? Guest: Vinaya Deshpande, The Hindu's Maharashtra Chief of Bureau. Host: G. Sampath, Social Affairs Editor, The Hindu. Edited by Jude Francis Weston

EirGrid, which is responsible for operating, developing and enhancing Ireland's electricity grid and market, has awarded four contracts for renewable energy integration technologies, called synchronous condensers, which will provide 'Low Carbon Inertia Services' (LCIS), to support Ireland's energy transition. This technology is vital for maintaining stability on the electricity grid while operating with higher levels of renewable energy. Historically, these inertia capabilities required to keep the power system stable could only be provided by large conventional generators. Earlier this year, EirGrid announced that it had reduced the minimum number of large conventional fossil-fuelled generators that must operate on Ireland's electricity grid at any one time from five to four. The LCIS technology, expected to be delivered between 2027 and 2028, will enable the minimum number of units to be further reduced over time. Following a competitive procurement process run by EirGrid, contracts were awarded to Quarry Lane Stability Limited in Co. Sligo (a wholly owned subsidiary of Statkraft Ireland Limited), Glencloosagh Energy Limited in Co. Kerry (a wholly owned subsidiary of Statkraft Ireland Limited), Buffy Letter Limited in Co. Galway and Green Frog Power (Wexford) Limited in Co. Wexford. The contracts awarded to build Synchronous Condensers will together provide 6,963 MVA.s of synchronous inertia, as well as reactive power support and short-circuit contribution, without generating active power, which will allow EirGrid to integrate more renewables onto the power system. The LCIS Procurement is a key component of the operational plans contained in EirGrid and SONI's Shaping Our Electricity Future Roadmap, which sets out the actions needed to decarbonise the electricity system to meet the Government's Climate Action targets. Liam Ryan, Chief Transformation & Technology Officer at EirGrid said: "Generating electricity from the wind or sun is technically very different from burning fossil fuels to create power, presenting significant technical and operational challenges. As we make the transition to more renewable energy, we will need technology like this to ensure continued stability on the system. The availability of low carbon inertia services is an important part of an extensive programme of work we're undertaking to make the grid renewable ready, which will benefit the economy and local communities across Ireland. In recent years, this has included the introduction of new technology in our control centre, as well as an increase in our Rate of Change of Frequency (RoCoF) limit, following a large decade-long programme in conjunction with the regulators, the distribution system operators and the generators on the island of Ireland. At the moment, up to 75% of Ireland's electricity generation can come from variable renewables, such as wind and solar, at any one time. This is known as the system non-synchronous penetration (SNSP) limit. We're doing more system studies and assessments at the moment, aiming to do a trial later this year to bring our SNSP limit above 75%."

//The Wire//2330Z September 16, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: DETAILS OF SECOND TRUMP SHOOTING REMAIN SUSPICIOUS. GAS PIPELINE EXPLODES IN TEXAS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------HomeFront-Florida: The suspect who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump yesterday afternoon has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, an activist heavily involved in the Ukrainian War as an advocate for western volunteers. All of the suspect's social media accounts have been purged from existence, likely in response to federal censorship requests.Texas: This afternoon a natural gas pipeline exploded in La Porte, following a motor vehicle accident (MVA) that resulted in a valve being struck, causing a substantial fire. Local evacuations were reported due to the intensity of the fire, however no injuries have been reported by local media. AC: The circumstances leading up to the initial MVA are unclear; local authorities have not stated whether or not this was indeed an accident, or the result of a malign actor.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: As one might expect, the details regarding the second Trump assassination attempt remain largely unconfirmed. However, considering the importance and significance of current events, some analytical leeway is to be expected. As such, the details that have been released (or mostly discovered on social media) are even more suspicious than the first attempt. However, as the suspect is still alive for the time being, the chances for follow-on information remain more likely than the previous attempt: The suspect having a very large online presence, many contacts within government agencies (due to his highly-suspect work to recruit volunteers for Ukraine), and his highly-documented activist work all give a much more complex picture than the previous effort to target Trump. If the suspect remains alive, more information is likely to become available to the public in due time, however this potential remains uncertain.Regarding the USSS response, even fewer details have been released. Considering the suspect does not appear to have successfully used his weapon, many might believe the Secret Service's actions to be a success. However, one must remember that close protection details are usually the last line of defense for a protectee. Considering the “zero-fail” nature of the USSS, if any malign actor is even able to get within rifle range of the protectee in the first place, this would be a failure of the highest order. Even moreso if the potential shooter remained alive to egress from the area.It is not clear how the suspect knew that Trump would be playing golf at that time and place, nor is it known how the suspect would be able to occupy a position that allowed for a comparatively high chance of success. How (or if) the suspect knew that Trump was only one or two holes away is also not clear, with this detail alone causing questions of whether or not the suspect had prior knowledge of Trump's movement. However, if the suspect had laid an ambush site and waited for Trump to make his way around the course, this could have been the reason for why the suspect was able to get well within rifle range of Trump. Many may liken this to be another cascading series of failures among the USSS, when the more specific details of the engagement are factored in. The suspect was able to know where Trump was with shocking accuracy, had time to conceal himself in the foliage along a high-traffic roadway that is hard to approach without being spotted, and construct a fighting position that included at least two homemade bulletproof panels for protection. One major unknown detail pertains to how long the suspect remained in his hide site at the perimeter fence before being spotted and engaged. The construction of a hasty fighting position clearly indicates the suspect had vastly more time on his hands than he needed to be operationally effe

Tourism on the island of Saipan in the Western Pacific is gradually picking up after taking a massive hit during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once a popular option for Japanese tourists, Korean holidaymakers now account for the majority of visitors to this laid-back resort destination. Turquoise seas, white sandy beaches and palm trees—it looks like a picture postcard from a tropical idyll. No wonder the economy of Saipan relies heavily on tourism. Saipan is the largest island and capital of the Northern Marianas, a territory of the United States. The COVID-19 pandemic almost spelled disaster for this rural Western Pacific island. All flights in and out of the Northern Mariana Islands were suspended for nearly a month. The number of visitors dropped by more than 99.9% in the following year compared to the year before, according to the Marianas Visitors Authority (MVA). With tourism accounting for about three-quarters of the islands' entire economy, a price freeze was declared to maintain local living standards. Prices of gasoline, kerosene, food, water, and light bulbs were frozen as well as the major construction works. A luxury casino resort developed by Hong Kong-based Imperial Pacific International Holding towers over Garapan, Saipan's main tourist district. It remains unfinished ever since the works were put on hold during the pandemic. With the reopening of the airspace, and direct flights resuming, the number of tourists is recovering. More than 70 percent of visitors come from South Korea, according to MVA. 13,378 arrivals from the country were recorded in May 2024. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Perhaps type II is required?: https://jissn.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1550-2783-10-48 Types I and III can be purchased in bulk powder form, but type II appears to be only easily available in small doses via capsules or mixed in with types I and III in unknown, probably small amounts. I suffered a massive ankle injury from a bike accident, so am looking for as much extra help healing as I can get. I'm already getting 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight and eating paleo plus lots of homemade bone broth. Maybe the extra collagen isn't necessary? Thanks, Eric Diatomaceous Earth for Silica and Heavy Metal Detox Nate writes: Hey Robb and Nicki, Appreciate all you do. Long time reader and listener. Have you dug into (or tinkered around with) diatomaceous earth as a supplement? I've been hearing about how consuming a food grade version of this at low doses (~a teaspoon a day) can detox heavy metals from your body, and that it is high in silica, which has been claimed to have health benefits of its own. As more and more metals are discovered in our food, our foods packaging (such as aluminum cans), our water supply, and really in our environment all around us, do you see the consumption of diatomaceous earth as an effective and also safe way to help rid your body of some, or any of these metals? Thanks guys. Exercise and Blood Pressure as T-10 paraplegic Eric writes: Robb and Nicki, thanks so much for your balanced approach to all the questions you answer. And thanks for all the wisdom you dispense. It's truly appreciated. A rundown on myself: I'm a 35yo male, 5”10 and 155lbs. I've been a T-10 paraplegic for 20 years. I had a MVA when I was 15, which resulted in my spinal cord injury (SCI). I've been eating paleo for about 3 years now with great success. I've never felt better and I've never been more regular. Being regular can be a very difficult thing when you have a neurogenic bowel. I recently had bloodwork done. Cholesterol 215. Triglycerides 34. HDL 69. LDL 136. Non HDL 146. Coronary risk ratio 3.12. Hemoglobin A1C 5.2. Mean glucose 103. Insulin 5.3. Every man in my family seems destined to have a heart attack or need a stint at age 50, so I've really tried to be as healthy as possible. I feel like I'm doing pretty good. If not, please tell me. I work 40 hours a week and try to be as active as possible. I also have an 18 month old so she keeps me moving. But I have a couple concerns. Exercise: it feels like, damned if you do and damned if you don't. I know it's important, but every single time I try to exercise regularly, I always end up pulling something. EVERY DAY IS ARM DAY. And when that's the case, it takes forever for things to heal up. I'll inevitably have to take 2 or 3 entire weekends where I do nothing but sit on the couch and watch movies all day, trying to rest the injury as much as possible. This is on top of regular “wheelchair life” repetitive stress injuries. I can't help but feeling like the juice just isn't worth the squeeze. I'm probably better off staying as generally active as possible. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Maybe one just inevitably has a shorter lifespan as a paraplegic. If so, I'm okay with that. It'd just be nice to know. The second question is about blood pressure. Coffee and tea seem to raise my top number between 130-150, and it typically stays elevated within that range throughout the day. The bottom number will get up to about 80. When off caffeine my BP is typically 120/70. Should I be worried about this? Also, what the heck? This is from one 12oz cup of black coffee a day. It doesn't mess with my sleep or anything else. Just BP. Could there be a way to counteract it? Please don't tell me I need to give up the nectar of the gods. IRAN INCREASES PRESENCE PATROLS IN RED SEA. -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Red Sea/HOA: Diplomatic tensions escalate as an Iranian warship transits into the Red Sea in response to the sinking of Houthi boats. AC: As Iranian forces become more actively involved in the region, the nomenclature of Iranian vessels will become confusing as Iranian Naval organization is like none other. The IRIS ALBORZ (72) is classified by Iran to be a Frigate, but in international terms is really more characteristic of a Destroyer (DD), or a Guided-Missile Destroyer (DDG), depending on the upgrades present onboard. This vessel has been in the area for weeks, but has taken a more direct patrolling profile following the escalation of combat operations in theater. It is also important to note that Iran has strategically placed several intelligence collection vessels in the region, who the U.S. has accused of providing targeting information to Yemen.-HomeFront-NY: An attempted VBIED attack was conducted at the Kodiak Center in Rochester on New Year's Eve. Details are extremely sketchy, but initial reporting indicates that a man attempted to carry out a possible Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) attack on the crowd gathered in attendance of a holiday concert at the venue, timing the attack for the end of the concert so as to achieve maximum success. Allegedly, the attacker (who has been identified as Michael Avery) filled a rental vehicle with over a dozen containers of gasoline and attempted to conduct a vehicle-ramming attack at the entrance of the theater. An Uber driver (unaware of this plot) was inadvertently involved in a motor vehicle accident (MVA) with the assailant as he made his attack run, which ignited the gasoline prematurely. FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTF) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel have been observed investigating the hotel room where the attacker staged before the attack, suggesting more deliberate planning was involved in this attack. A suicide note was allegedly found at this location. So far, even the casualty count has been difficult to determine as official statements have not been forthcoming with information. However, piecing together what information is public, two people (possibly the people in the Uber vehicle) were killed, and the assailant also reportedly died of burns at a local hospital shortly after the attack. Three people were also injured in the attack.Analyst Comments:Details regarding the Rochester VBIED attack are few and far between as local authorities have likely been issued orders to conceal details of the investigation as it has become a cultural standard to conceal the mere occurrence of terror attacks from the general public. As such, eyewitness reports from locals are really the only sources for information. Much like the Rainbow Bridge Incident from a few weeks ago (the official story of which still has many intelligence gaps, and is generally dubious in nature), follow-on information will likely not be made public. There are additional details that may indicate that this incident was not isolated, and may have involved other crimes in the general vicinity before the attack. However, details are again too unreliable for any concrete links to be made at this time. However, much operational intelligence can still be gained from this incident. The attacker chose a soft target comprised of large groups of unarmed people, in a location where he knew vehicle barriers would not be emplaced.
