One drink, one topic. Tom, located on the East Coast, and Bryan, on the West, former work friends, join forces bi-weekly to try a new drink and discuss a related pop culture topic. If you’re looking for an insightful discussion on the shambling undead with a Zombie, or a friendly disagreement about the Best Bond paired with martinis, or a fond retrospective of the Coen brothers with a white Russian or two, Bicoastal Boozecast allows you all the fun of bar-based eavesdropping with no cover charge and no two drink minimum.
What do dog phones, activist artists, wannabe rappers who cause traffic jams, mummified Twinkies, a man with a Tesla face tattoo who doesn't own a Tesla, and Deathstalker Scorpions in Egypt have in common? They are all in this episode! Also, we find out (finally!) that Video Games do not cause people to be violent. Greatest scenes in film? Godfather's Marlon Brando in his chair, absent-mindedly stroking his cat? The D-Day opening in Saving Private Ryan as the bullets plink against the walls of the metal transport? What about Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken discussing the origin of Sicilians in True Romance?Or maybe...just maybe...that one scene in Troll 2 where Arnold, who is morphing into a potted tree, realizes he is about to be eaten by goblin trolls. We begin our second season with vampires as our topic and the "Nosferatu" as our drink: a 50/50 mix of port and brandy. Easy to remember, simple enough to make, and the perfect early evening drink after you emerge from your daytime slumber of the undead. But you never drink wine, you say? Well, you should start. It will probably come as a shock to you to find the co hosts of Bicoastal Boozecast were both bullied when they were younger. “Bullied?” you exclaim. “Preposterous! Nonsense! The hell you say! Our magnetism and charm are products of age and wisdom, and quite possibly, beatings we received when in public school. Some men make podcast episodes about trucks or football. Some men just want to watch the world burn (I couldn't help making that reference). But at Bicoastal Boozecast, we made an episode about cats, because if there's one thing the internet needs more of, it's cats.Drink recipes (there are two this time because Tom screwed up on which drink we were going to make):The Big City CatThe Tom CatReferences and Topics Include:Mark Twain quote about cats. The Mark Twain HouseFerdinand the BullJackson Galaxy (cat expert)Choose your cat Checklist (inspired from here):When you pick up the cat/kitten they should purr.Ask the volunteers about the cat/kitten.IMPORTANT: Do not choose a cat by its looks. You cannot judge a book by its cover.Take your time.Spend as much time with the cat/kitten as you can.Let the cat/kitten choose you.Find out what you can about the background of the cat/kitten.The lap test: Put the cat in your lap, pet them, then take them out and see if they come back. Not a dealbreaker, but helps in the process.Seattle Humane SocietyConnecticut Humane SocietyList of authors who love catsThe Black Cat of RigaThe Master and Margarita by Mikhail BulgakovSympathy for the Devil by The Rolling StonesBehemoth from The Master and MargaritaThe Cheshire Cat from Alice in WonderlandContact Info:Hate-mail, questions or topic ideas for the show, hit us up on twitter at @BCBoozecast or email us at bcboozecast@gmail.com. What if I told you that you could make a six figure income in the exciting and glamorous world of competitive pie eating? Sound too good to be true? What if I also told you that you would never have to eat a single pie? Sound even better? For a nominal fee, I can teach you the secrets of million dollar pie eating from the comfort of your own home! No baking, no eating, just sit back and watch the dollars roll in! I will, of course, need your credit card for the monthly lessons, because obviously we have to take care of my six figure income first, but I swear to the blueberry gods, your fortune comes next!Bryan and Tom discuss MLMs and pyramid schemes with the Inverted Pyramid, a drink neither of them were able to replicate correctly, thereby keeping with the theme of failed fortunes and disappointments the MLM model dispenses with such regularity.Topics include:Marionberries and Marion Berry (both the blackberry derivative and the crack smoking mayor)A possibly completely misremembered and inaccurate It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia referenceAmwayHerbal LifeBernie MadoffNXIVMNXIVM Documentary (HBO) - The VowHate-mail, questions or topic ideas for the show, hit us up on twitter at @BCBoozecast or email us at bcboozecast@gmail.com. This episode raises some interesting questions. Why, for example, in a podcast about conspiracy theories, did we not discuss JFK? Was it because we ran out of time? Or was it because they got to us? Have They, and you know who They are, have They replaced Bryan and Tom with two easily manipulated shills, willing to do the bidding of the secret lizard mafia intelligence agency who don’t want you to know the truth? Probably not. It’s probably just the drinking.Join us as we discuss:The Flat EarthThe Moon LandingThe Newtown ShootingQAnon Mentioned:David NeiwartHate-mail, questions or topic ideas for the show, hit us up on twitter at @BCBoozecast or email us at bcboozecast@gmail.com. Do you remember the “Lady Snowblood” inspired scene in Kill Bill where Lucy Liu and Uma Thurman face off against each other in the snow? There’s the sound of a fountain in the background, a Sozu, designed to scare wildlife away from a garden. It fills up with water, tips, makes a sound as it empties, and then rises and fills up again. I like to imagine that fountain is running on scotch. Single malt scotch. In a steady stream. Brand doesn’t matter, just single malt. We decided on scotch as the drink of choice for our Tarantino episode because of Inglorious Basterds, but still. A fountain that runs on scotch. Patent pending. Kickstarter in progress.Needless to say, probably not a good idea to listen if you haven’t seen these Tarantino movies:Inglorious BasterdsPulp FictionOnce Upon a Time in HollywoodDjango UnchainedReservoir DogsHate-mail, questions or topic ideas for the show, hit us up on twitter at @BCBoozecast or email us at bcboozecast@gmail.com.
