Start off with an old-school Kids' Sports Update before getting to the movie.Yor, The Hunter from the Future: A caveman with a backstory, such that there is one, similar to Lonestar in Spaceballs wanders around the Turkish countryside causing mayhem. He meets women. They fall in love with him. Other cavemen come along and destroy shit. Then SUDDENLY, there's space ships and laser beams. Apparently Yor is actually from an advanced civilization! And his civilization is fighting another civilization of bad guys who want to create a world of androids. There is no time travel. This is all happening on the same planet at the same time and no one noticed. Whatever. Yor, The Movie with the Wordy Title final grade: Steve: I wanted to like this one, but Antonio Marrrgggeriiitttiii's attempt to take a four-hour mini-series and pare it down to a 90-minute movie probably lost a lot of the plot. Tarzan/Flash Gordon mash-up was too convoluted. 1.8/5.0Brandon: The first 60 minutes of this movie had nothing to do with the last 30. There wasn't any attempt to tie the Star Wars-y stuff to the caveman stuff. Yor wasn't even from the future. He was just from a different part of the same beachfront property. 1.9/5.0Cocktail of the Week:The Cosmic Caveman1 oz Bourbon1/2 oz Mezcal1/2 oz Blue Curaçao1 oz Pineapple Juice1/2 oz Fresh-squeezed Lime Juice1/2 oz Honey SyrupAngostura Bitters1/2 oz Over-proof RumCombine everything except the rum in a cocktail shaker. Shake to combine and chill, then strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with a lime wheel laid on top. Pour over-proof rum onto lime wheel/chunk and light the rum on fire. Cocktail Grade: ChatGPT is clearly in the tank for Big Blue Curaçao. Looks like toxic waste. Doesn't taste great. You don't make enough money to support ChatGPT's liquor budget. Really gave Steve some tummy troubles the next morning. 1.3/5.0------------------Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to:boozeandbmovies@gmail.comX: @boozeandbmoviesInstagram: @boozeandbmoviesThreads: @boozeandbmovieswww.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies

The term "sober curious" was coined by the author Ruby Warrington, who wrote a 2018 book about the topic.  Since then, this movement has seen a rise in social media interest, support groups, and apps to support others in the exploration to assess their own relationship with alcohol.  The alcohol-free beverage market is also booming, which is providing more choices and palatable options beyond the usual Shirley Temple or soda water with lime.  Deb Podlogar made the decision two years ago to take a break from her Chardonnay habit.  During the process, she leaned into her energy, passion, and enthusiasm for her journey to share with others, who were seeking tools and support to be successful in their own quests to be more mindful about alcohol consumption.  Deb is now the story behind the funny, authentic, and engaging Mocktail Mom platform.  You are going to love her honesty and humor! The Mocktail Mom has not only amassed a great following on social media but has received a lot of attention from the quickly-growing alcohol-free beverage market.   Deb never intended to quit drinking altogether, but when you hear her story, you will see that the benefits of her new lifestyle and positive feedback from Instagram followers has provided her all the motivation she needs to stay the course and continue her mission to normalize not drinking.  In this episode Deb and I discuss:-Starting to drink later in life and coming to terms  with her Chardonnay habit-How and why she started a social media presence just days after making the decision to take a break from drinking-Support of family and how she handled not drinking socially-The growth of the AF beverage market and the choices out there-What is next for the Mocktail Mom platformGinger Margarita MocktailIngredients2 oz Spiritless Jalisco 553/4 oz Lime Juice1/4 oz Spiritless Horse's Kick Syrup1/2 oz Agave SyrupIn a shaker container add ice, then add in 2 oz of Spiritless Jalisco 55 tequila alternative, 3/4 oz lime juice, 1/4 oz Spiritless Horse's Kick Syrup, and 1/2 oz Agave Syrup. Our accidental theme this week is Dogs and Meats. Our first story includes an "expert" on dogs' olfactory senses and their ability to sniff out zombies. Our second story is about meat-based vending machines in Germany and Singapore (thanks, COVID!). Then, we continue with a story about contraband bologna brought into the US from Mexico. Tom discloses another art story. This time it's about a very pretentious artist who believes highly in the magic of . . . gold. We then detour and talk about what profession Tom will take up during the apocalypse. We meet a "Mother of the Year" who told her kids to stay in the basement and "Just eat candy," while she vacationed in Florida.  Our last story involves a showdown over steak at The Golden Corral. This week in Duh includes crime and Florida. Our Linktree: https://linktr.ee/liquoreduplowdownThe Drink:The Gimlet:2 1/2 oz Gin1/2 oz Lime Juice1/2 oz Simple SyrupNews Stories from This Episode:Dogs and Zombies:https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/dogs-will-know-apocalypse-coming-26121501German Meat Vending Machines:https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/653074/sausage-vending-machines-germany#:~:text=The%20sausage%20vending%20machines%20are,of%202020%2C%20according%20to%20NPR.243 Pounds of Bologna Seized at the US-Mexico Border:https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2022/01/31/243-pounds-of-contraband-bologna-seized-at-texas-mexico-border/The Pretentious Gold Cube Artist:https://www.ndtv.com/offbeat/why-a-gold-cube-worth-11-7-million-appeared-in-new-yorks-central-park-2748754"Just Eat Candy" Mother of the YearShowdown at the Golden Corral:https://www.today.com/food/news/golden-corral-fight-rcna14500This Week in "Duh": Too much crime reported in Florida means Facebook Page gets shut down:https://www.clickorlando.com/news/weird-news/2022/01/27/florida-sheriff-halts-facebook-comments-because-too-many-crimes-reported/Contact Info:Hate-mail, questions or topic ideas for the show, hit us up on twitter at @LiquoredUpLD or email us at liquoreduplowdown@gmail.com. Jelani Curtis, a Detroit native, was inspired to create a platform that makes it easy for citizens to contact the Louisville & Kentucky government to fight for justice for Breonna Taylor. On March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor was wrongfully murdered by the Louisville, KY police department while issuing a "no-knock" warrant. Breonna's life was taken after being shot eight times and left for dead by the same police officers. To this day, those police officers Brett Hankison, Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove have not been arrested or charged with murder. Each day since March 13th there have been many efforts to bring awareness to the case and to demand justice for Breonna. ForBreonna.com is a seamless, one-tap experience that allows you call, email, or tweet local officials to demand the arrest and charge each officer involved in Breonna's murder. This week, Paris and Natasha speak with Jelani and discuss his creation of @forBreonna and other action we can take to demand justice for the lives of Black people in America. Given the heaviness of the world today, we are choosing a light and refreshing drink called, Better Than Ever.Better Than Ever Recipe:3/4 cup Green Tea1 tsp Mint Simple Syrup1/2 tsp Lime Juice1 oz Vodka (Cocktail)1/4 cup Ginger BeerGarnish with MintBrew green tea and allow to cool.
