But his operation based in Licthenburg, North West is not limited to crops and livestock. He also owns and manages Otukile and Sons (Pty) Ltd, a 100% black-owned company specialising in engineering asset management solutions for the mining sector. This is part one of his interview featured in our farmer mentor podcast.

In this episode of The Remarkable Project Jay speaks with Aaron Trevis, Founder and CEO of wave riding innovators Surf Lakes, about why truly big ideas demand equally oversized belief, how to turn roadblocks into speed bumps, and the power of surrounding yourself with the right people. As the Founder and driving force behind the Surf Lakes project, Aaron Trevis has been instrumental in stewarding the journey of this technology concept from ideation to start-up and on to the global entity that is evolving today.Surf Lakes as an idea was born in 2013 from what Aaron would later describe as ‘a ripple' – he was throwing rocks into water with his kids when it hit him, and a lot of research into how nature makes waves and how one swell interacts with multiple reefs and beaches. As a keen surfer himself, he has a well-stated mission to take waves to the masses so that the thrill of surfing can be shared and enjoyed by anyone regardless of ability or location.Beyond surfing, Aaron boasts a diverse leadership, management and consulting background, covering underground coal mining, executive search and national leadership of a large not-for-profit organisation. He is a qualified Mining Engineer and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and also an accomplished public speaker.Remarkable QuotesBe courageous enough to step out and say “no, actually we want to build an incredible experience, not just technology, and we want you as the guest to come out of it better than you came in.”I think the reality for me was realising early the need to share. That if you're going to tackle something that's going to go beyond yourself then, at some point, you have to let others in. It's then just choosing who that is.If you're going to build a business, it's not a half-hearted thing. To me it has to be something that's very exciting, that I'm passionate about, that has such a wow factor that I'll work every Saturday for the rest of my life because I want to.Connect with AaronFind him on LinkedinLearn more about the Surf Lakes project via their website and follow them on Instagram

Born the youngest of 6 children and raised in small town in Northern B.C. Canada, Julie never expected she would end up in Mongolia, feeding, caring for and educating hundreds of Mongolian children in need at her two Children of the Peak Sanctuary or Narnii Huuhduud charity kindergartens. She and her husband, Chelvan, a Mining Engineer and the President of Veloo Foundation, have lived and worked in Indonesia, Australia and The United States before settling in Mongolia. During her 10 years here, Julie has taken up horse back riding and now, every year, with Saraa and Baagii of Horse Trek Mongolia hosts and rides the longest annual charity ride on the planet – The Gobi Gallop – along with a suite of other charity rides across Mongolia. In 2022 she will ride the record breaking 3,600 km / 84 day Blue Wolf Totem Expedition to raise funds for her charity project projects. All of the money the people pay for these rides stays in Mongolia and helps the children, local businesses, artists and artisans and local herders. Julie, herself, works running these rides and the charity projects on a volunteer bases. Since first riding here at the age of 50 Julie has logged in excess of 35,000 km on horseback across the wilds of Mongolia and all of it to help the children. Julie is passionate about Mongolia and all things Mongolian and is committed to sustainable and fiscally transparent philanthropy. She is thrilled to be able to incorporate her love of Mongolian culture and history into Veloo Foundation's Soaring Crane Summer Camp out in the countryside of Sonjin Boldog. The camp is a traditional Mongolian themed camp experience in English and Mongolian alike and offers 3 paying camps a year in English to fund the remaining camps for 250 Mongolian children in need. In addition to the two Narnii Huuhduud Kindergartens and the Soaring Crane Summer Camp, Veloo Foundation also operates the Fran London Centre for the Fabric Arts. Now 60, Julie expects to continue her epic long distance riding her in Mongolia and will continue making a difference in the lives of children in need as long as she is able. U Maung Nyi (commonly known as David) was born in Kyaukse on 15 April, 1936. He was educated in Kyaukse, Mandalay, Yangon and Otago (New Zealand). As a mining engineer he spent many years working at Bawdwin, Myanmar's famous lead, silver and zinc mine which during colonial times was the largest such mine in the world. Herbert Hoover, the 31st US President, made his fortune investing in Bawdwin. David eventually became its Mine Superintendent from 1983 to 1986 and was then promoted to become General Manager of a new copper mine at Monya (known as No. 1 Copper Mine). His resignation from this role after the 1988 riots and coup had far reaching consequences on the lives of all his family.

Today, we talk with Matt Bennetto, Operations Manager at LinkForce. Joining us again is Rosie Allen from Rosie Allen Consulting, Mining Engineer and proud WASM graduate from the class of 2009. In this podcast we take a dive into diversity and how Western Australias largest shutdown business encourages diversity. Fun fact: 70% of employees at LinkForces Central Perth offices are female! Episode Timeline: Diversity Program [00:50] We have developed a program called LTGo Program, it’s an eight-week course with tickets and certifications for individuals that may not have the connection, ability, or opportunity to work. We give everyone the opportunity, even if you are white, indigenous, Asian, male, female, etc. [01:32] LinkForce has always taken the approach of recruiting future graduates in mechanical engineering, structural engineering, etc. with female engineers as my priority. Qualifications [02:09] With more than a thousand applicants, only 2% of females had applied for structural, civil, and mechanical engineering. Females are known for their attention to detail and drive that fits to our industry. Personal achievements are not enough to succeed, circumstances of diversity are just as important to be motivated. Priming Young & Gifted People [04:22] Teens already made a decision about their interest before they get to high school and enrolling at a university. Companies are starting to realize that having a diverse workplace should be addressed at the root level. [07:01] Curtains opens up to these gifted children. Many companies organize flights for a bootcamp. [09:32] It creates buzz for them. Seeing adults working in action at a large scale creates excitement for them. With technology and the aspects happening in the mining industry, the world is their oyster. Introducing your Work to your Child [10:56] Seeing your children watch with excitement, the question is how do you promote it to them? There are many career opportunities in Western Australia; geology, metallurgy, mining, engineering, surveying, fabrication—data and coding in the next decade. Key Quotes: [04:58 – 05:04] “Whether you have a son or daughter, they always want to be like their parents.” [03:04 – 03:14] “Regardless if you are a male or female, you always challenge yourself to be better at something.” Connect with Rosie through her socials: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rosie-allen-consulting Connect with Matt through his socials: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-bennetto-a580a899/ Learn more about Link Force at: Website: https://www.linkforce.com.au/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/linkforce-engineering/

As you build, though, you realize that you need money. Sometimes you’ve got lots of money in the checking account and sometimes nothing. I get it. I was shoveling out a feeder conveyor at my father’s gravel pit when I was 10 years old. I was helping him install kitchens and pour concrete when I was 17. I watched him struggle with cash flow his whole life. I went to college to learn how to build mines and I did that for 40+ years. Once you start building, you’re addicted! We are Eagle Managerial Bookkeeping. We’ll do your bookkeeping and help change your dreaded bookkeeping into a profit center! You’ll know where your money is and where it’s going. We’ll set up your transactions into categories you understand. We’ll prepare monthly reports, so you know what’s going on. Then we’ll help you identify where there are opportunities. It’s bookkeeping on steroids! It'll be fun - I promise! I'm an engineer with an MBA and over 40 years of experience designing, building and operating mines in the USA and Latin America (that’s my last mine in the picture above). My team and I will help you get control of your cash flow by using the same tools and techniques I've used my whole career. He discusses his reality TV experience last year on Married At First Sight Australia and it was great hearing all about how he used his meditation skills to stay calm and centered as the drama swirled around him. It felt like I was meeting and old friend because I watched him on the series! It was so much fun and we had such a great laugh during the interview. Focusing on inspiring the younger generation is the goal, and facilitating conversations on common issues and solutions that pertain to the Somali diaspora experience will help us stay connected as a people.Nomadic Hustle: Shedding light on our stories while engaging in conversation to enlighten our youth and inspire our community to grow."All we're trying to do is hustle and motivate"

Chris Ralph Professional Prospector, Mining Engineer, Author and just one of the greatest people I have ever met in the Mining Industry, joined us to help you find gold. Chris clearly states that you do not have to be a Mining Engineer or a Geologist to get on the gold that others miss. You just have to, Know somethings, be imaginative, creative and willing to put in the time. Oh and Lucky. Chris's book "Fist Full Of Gold" is a must have for every level of prospector. In my opinion, I consider Fist Full Of Gold the "Best of the Best" and something you will refer to for years to come. At the end of the Podcast we realized that we had missed a subject completely, "When to put down the Detector." Unfortunately a recording issue is delaying the release of this podcast. Just keep your eyes and ears open for that one, It is enlightening to say the least. This is not an affiliate link, I truly believe that if you do not own Fist Full Of Gold, you need to order it now! https://www.amazon.com/Fists-Full-Gold-Chris-Ralph/dp/0984269207
Evan McKern is a Mining Engineer with 20 years in the game, covering a wide variety of Engineering and Management roles. Evan has worked along side the crew at Entech since its conception and has been a part of many exciting projects. In 2012, he and Shane McLeay started the Aeriel and Terrestrial Surveying business Arvista. This business provides your general Mine Surveying services but its bread and butter lies in UAV aerial surveying. In this episode, we go through Evan’s career and then venture in detail into the Arvista story. Surveying technology is heading down some very interesting avenues for both surface and underground and Evan’s gives us a good sneak peak into this. I’m proud to introduce Shane McLeay. This is the most exciting interview I have done to date. Being a successful Business Owner is far outweighed by how much of a great bloke Shane McLeay is. Shane is a great success story straight out of Kambalda. From firing his first cut at 6 years old to opening a Mining Consultant office in Vancouver, Shane has achieved so much in Mining. After spending the time interviewing him, you can see why. I believe it all stems from him being a top bloke, not just a smart and hard working Mining Engineer. Contact Shane and the crew at Entech for a diverse range of Mine Consultancy services. Check them out at http://entechmining.com.au/

The seventh plenary session from CROSS19. Conrad Mbewe worked as a Mining Engineer in Zambia before answering God’s call into the pastoral ministry. He is married to Felistas, and has been wonderfully blessed with three children plus two foster daughters.
The global economy is no longer a turn of phrase but rather an everyday reality for entrepreneurs and big business alike. But how can you walk the tight rope of cross cultural leadership?Well stay tuned because we are about to find out.Our guest today is a man I like to think of as the James Bond of business. He’s suave, debonair, with enough grit to keep him sharp as a razor He's a man with his finger on the global pulse, all shaken but never stirred, with a fabulously dry British sense of humour. Graham Kill returned to the UK in 2014 after 24 years abroad to live and develop a portfolio in the UK – his ‘third’ career. He is: Chairman of PMYB and SmartFlow, two fast growing companies scaling up; co-founder of intelligent mobility start-up, Conga; investor in and advisor with ScaleUp; Seckford Foundation Charity Trustee; Chair of Suffolk Branch of the Institute of Directors; and a Prince’s Trust Business Mentor. His ‘first’ career (1983-1991) was a Mining Engineer managing underground operations in coal and gypsum mines in the UK.After his MBA (1993), Graham joined the Naspers Group’s FilmNet company, a European B2C pay TV group, in corporate finance and business development – the start of his ‘second career’. He joined Irdeto, a B2B media technology company also part of Naspers, in 1995 as its CFO and Operations Director. He was Irdeto’s CEO from 1998 until his resignation. (March 2015).Whilst CEO, Irdeto grew from an engineering-led, in-house technology team (50 people) with US$25M annual revenue to a US$240M global, market-orientated company. The 1,000 strong team based in 25 countries served customers worldwide. The Irdeto team achieved this growth through: customer acquisition globally; new product/service introductions; diversification of the portfolio; and acquisitions.Find out more about Graham Kill on Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/grahamkillTo find out more about hiring the host Dov Baron as a speaker or strategist: http://fullmontyleadership.com/consulting or http://fullmontyleadership.com/speakingRemember you can now also find us on iTunes, Spotify, iHeart Radio, or wherever you tune into podcastsAnd on traditional radio stations across the US every Monday and Thursday on: 99.5 FM & 1520 AM Las Vegas102.1 FM & 1640 AM Lancaster, Philadelphia87.9 FM & 810 AM Macon, Gorgia 92.1 FM & 1630 AM Tampa, Florida97.7 The Villages, Florida96.3 FM Boulder ,Colorado90.3 FM Milwaukee, Wisconsin 94.7 FM Pittsburg, Philadelphia87.9 FM Colorado Springs, ColoradoAlso look for us on ROKU TV where there’s 100K subscribers.
