|EP164| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast, I welcome myself back to my own show! It has been over two month since I published any show and today I talk about why. Nothing serious, not family emergency, just busy with life like all of us. I also have a few bigger projects cooking, something bigger than this little show, something that could change my families life, and something I've been thinking about doing for quite a while. I'm finally getting all the pieces of that together so I talk about all of that stuff. Thank you so much for listening, thank you so much for sticking with me if your still here, I don't like leaving you hanging but things just got in the way so thank you. |EP163| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast, I talk about something that I think should be on the radar of all parents yet it isn't. I take a dive into the realm of Youtube and Youtube Kids! I give you my opinion on what I've personally seen as well as talk about my firsthand experience attempting to set up an account for my kids. I then get into an article I found on Reddit where many other parents are talking about their experiences with the app as well as some disturbing experiences their kids had. Lastly, I discuss what we can do and some better options. The articles I referenced are linked below if you want to check them out. |EP161| Today on this Dad Classic episode of Stay At Home Dads Podcast I open the show talking about my ten year old daughter making it home from her big trip to Costa Rica. I also mention my 7 year old experiencing life as an only child, even thought just for a week. I then talk about some things I have going on and what will be coming down the pipe. The remainder the show is from episode 108, way back in April of 2023 and that description is listed below. Today I talk about doing things for myself as well as for others to save money, to make a little money on the side, but also to keep growing myself and my knowledge base. I then get into a common phrase we tend to hear that some generations don't really want to work anymore and why that may be. Lastly, I continue talking about side hustles, something I did back at episode 30, with more examples we could do to make some extra money from getting your hands dirty fixing and hauling things to proof reading or taking surveys. If you have ever done something to earn some extra money on the side I would love to hear your experience, so please send me a message on Pod Bean or on my Instagram page @stayathomedads_podcast. |EP160| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast, like many things that happen on this show, an observation sparked a question. Gentle parenting! I've had this idea of what it is, scoffed at it, vowed never to do it, hell even made fun of it, but here I am trying to learn more about it. I discuss the actually meaning of gentile parenting, the pros, the cons, and what, in my opinion, is the best way to use it. A few comments on the post indicated that some people in fact didn't like how that could be possible. This got me thinking of other things us men do that irritates or bothers our wives. I say things men do but all of these could easily be reversed. Things from not brushing your teeth to not talking about what's on your mind. |EP154| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I go completely off script and talk about a few random, non related topics that have been going on in my life lately. First off I mention party planning for my wife's 40th birthday party. I talk about the level of stress involved in undertaking such a task and how easy it would have been to just go on line and book a trip but also how I believe it's important to do something special for your spouse. I also talk about the importance of showing up for your spouse on special occasions whether it be birthdays, anniversaries, or any moment really where we should do something special for them to show them what they meat to us. The second random topic I embark on is kids sports. I talk about my daughter's experience playing sports, her struggles, and what I think the next steps should be when things don't work out. I also ask a bunch of questions that I hope you can help me answer; Why are sports so important? Why do parents seem to emphasize them so much? How do we pivot when kids come home crushed? I will follow up on this topic on the next episode as I have more to say. |EP153| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I open the show with the monumental eclipse we had this week. Quite a sight to see but also such a huge buildup to something that's over in minutes. I then get into a book I have been reading called Let Them Be Kids by Jessica Smartt. I go over a few things I read so far that really resonated with me like over scheduling our kids, limiting technology, and how the primary thing kids should be doing is play. I also go over her 6 facts about tech and our kids. This book is a great read so far so I highly recommend it, I'll link it in the text below. |EP151| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I open the show talking about a recent trip to Texas my wife and I took for work as well as some sight seeing, exploring, as well as the many positive interactions we had with people that live there. The talk of travel made me think of today's topic of living with regret, that people typically regret not traveling, seeing the world or doing certain things when their young, and find they no longer can when they're old. So today I discuss an article that mentions the top 8 things a group of 1500 elderly people regret and what we can do to not be in the same boat as them when we become their age. |EP150| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I dive right into this touchy and moreover frustrating subject of the ever evolving landscape of children's nutrition. I discuss my childhood, what the expectation was for me and most people from my generation to this new trend of contemporary parenting by referencing a dialogue I had online about getting kids to eat their food. Do we call it lax parents, entitled kids, and mix of both? I'll let you be the judge. |EP147| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I recap my hiatus for the past few weeks with holiday time, vacation time, and taking an unexpected trip with my spouse. I then talk about proclamations a lot of people make this time or year or sooner, resolutions, things we want to change about ourselves over the following year. But this got me thinking, just having a resolution isn't really enough, and what is the real difference between a resolution and an actual goal? I then talk about SMART goals, what they are, what it means, and how we can utilize the SMART method with our goals for the new year. Lastly, I ask the question; What is we fail, what do we do when we slip? We know it won't be give up and quit, thats for sure! |EP146| Today on this Dad Classic episode of Stay At Home Dads Podcast, I start off with more complaining! I thought it was tough when my two girls had an E-day, well now they got sick and missed school for multiple days. Along with navigating that, I myself got sick! So today I talk about things I personally do when I'm sick to bounce back as fast as I can. I also check the internet to see if my ideas are total bull, or have some validity. Disclaimer, my ideas and tips are not new or ground breaking, they are just things I do that seem to really work for me and hopefully work for you as well. |EP145| Today on this Dad Classic of Stay At Home Dads Podcast I open the show talking the damage I did to the very symbol of my marriage... My ring! Who wold have thought the strongest ring in the world could be damaged. I also mention a news clip I saw about what the Surgeon General thinks about social media with kids as well as make a comparison to Star Bursts. lastly I talk about being assertive and standing up for myself. I've been having a bunch of work done to my house lately and I've come to find that I'm not very good at communicating, confronting and negotiating with contractors and probably other people in my life. I enjoy helping people and going with the flow but does that mean I'm a passive people pleaser? I discuss the article Ten tips to be more assertive so maybe I can practice and sharpen my assertiveness skills. Attached below is an assertiveness self assessment you can do on your own for fun. |EP144|On today's Dad Classic episode of Stay At Home Podcast, I open the show talking about New Years, that it's great to have fresh goals and aspirations for the new year but we also need to make sure we focus on making the change, whatever it may be, day by day. I also mention the loss of Ken Block, one of the greatest professional drivers in the motorsports world. I talk about his career and his famed Gymkhana video series. Lastly I talk about a thought I had over the holiday break about the importance of actually playing with our kids rather than giving them copious amounts of things to occupy their time. I reference a few article that talk about the importance for not just the kids but the parents as well to play, pretend, and immerse ourselves into that world. It's more important than you think! Today on this Dad Classic Episode of Stay At Home Dads Podcast I dip up an oldie from 2021 where I get into the meaning of the Movember movement and men's health. Have a great Thanksgiving weekend! Happy November, or Movember as it's also called these days. I actually came across a story on social media about mens mental health awareness and that men are more likely to commit suicide much more often than women so I thought this warranted a discussion. I also take a deep dive into Britney Spears and her mental health, as well as taking a look into what Movember is all about. Enjoy! |EP135| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I open the show talking about a topic I discussed a few weeks ago about the value of accomplishing hard things. I had this thought that may explain why people are less apt to do those hard things, and it has to do with things becoming too easy. I then talk about some people watching I did while at a concert with my with the other weekend and how my perception of a certain situation prompted me to think about how I would respond if this situation were to turn negative. I expand on this with how we deal with situations around us and how we react to them. |EP134| On this Dad Classic episode of Stay at Home Dads I start off with a little On This Day. I also talk about daylight savings time and why in the hell are we changing the clocks. Lastly, I get into validation with our kids, how we inadvertently dismiss our kids emotions and how we can go about validating these emotions to help them build strong self regulating skills. I also wanted to talk about validation in our adults lives, how we crave that validation on life choices, decisions we make, to purchases we make, but that will be discussed at another time. New episodes will be back next week! Today on Stay At home Dads Podcast I kick the show off talking about a dad/daughter bonding experience we had over the weekend, a school affiliated camp out. I then talk about the main topic of this episode, things parents can do to cultivate hard working kids. I reference and article that's linked below that goes over six things we can do right now that will help change the way our kids view and tackle hard things they want to do, as well as may not want to do. It can be very difficult motivating our kids to do things they don't really want to do, even things they enjoy can be hard so hourly these tips will help us make that process a bit easier. |EP132| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I open the show talking about more volunteering and helping out at my kids school for a big event they had last week. I also mention an incident that concerned me as well as made me proud for how hard these young kids push themselves. Next, I get into the main topic of today, discussing a Reddit post where users talk about mens green flags and red flags in the world of dating. I discuss these, putting my own marriage spin on them as well as mentioning a few of my own. I do so in an effort for us to realize that we may possibly do some of these things and we can do better. |EP131| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast, I open the show talking about hosting company, having friends and family come for visits, and how that prompts us, the host, to do more things, plan more activities, and even cook different meals so we provide an interesting or exciting experience for our guests. I then talk about a current social media trend called Girl Math, what it is, it's lighthearted nature, as well the potential for this type of thinking to pose financial issues if people aren't diligent. |EP130| Today on this Dad Classic episode of Stay At Home Dads Podcast, I open with a social media post I came across that hopefully will change the way we have or start conversations with the people around us. Then I get into today's Dad Classic episode where I talk about a Reddit post I came across about a woman who was venting about the awful things her husband does and thought about leaving constantly. There were many more people in the comments complaining about similar things so I wanted to know more. I found a few articles that were geared toward things husbands do to irritate and bother their wives so I dove in. I discuss some of the points comparing and relating my own experiences with them. Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I start off talking about a 5k I recently ran with a couple friends. Something I knew was coming up yet still never trained for! It was hard but I did it, I finished. I then mention something very difficult my daughter is going through and expand on this topic of us and our kids ability to do hard things. I discuss the repercussions of not having our kids conquer hard things as well as what we can do to help them do it, having them figure things out on their own to build that confidence, tenacity, and strength and how doing so benefits them in the long run. |EP126| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I open the show discussing my kids headed back to school, how its bittersweet seeing my girls go off and experience this new chapter and what I'm going to do with all my new found free time. I also dig into a social media post that talks about a husband trading gender roles with his wife, him staying home to take care of their children and her going to her high profile executive career. I also talk about their eventual divorce and how commenters claim it was caused by the husbands lack of masculinity. I then get into to nuances of masculinity, how I believe it has an evolving meaning from the traditional ways I still agree with and also some different ways that I discuss in todays show. Today on this Dad Classic episode of Stay At Home Dads Podcast I went back two years where i talk about things wives wish us husbands knew. I think it's important for us not to forget that doing simple things and thoughtful things for someone we love are appreciated more than we realize when were in the thick of daily family grind. In the middle of work, kids school and activities, cooking meals, and keeping up a house its probably even more important to make sure we take a little time and do nice little things for each other. |EP123| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast, I open the show with a question, a question I think needs to be asked more often to friends and family, a question that has so motive, no angle, just a genuine care toward someone else. I then talk about a few things on my mind that I saw while perusing social media, one which was a woman seemingly lost without her technology or other things to occupy her time while living off grid. And another another social media personality complaining about different types of podcasts. Both of these I chime in on, giving my perspective as well as posing a few questions to you. Lastly, on this loosely structured episode I talk about an article I found where Reddit users state things they are simply too old to deal with anymore. I discuss, add a few of my own, and realize that yes while there are some things I am not longer willing to do at my age there are still plenty that I am more than willing to partake in. |EP122| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I briefly mention more news about my RV, maybe it's time to hang up my RV life keychain for awhile. I then talk about stepping up and volunteering to step in for my wife to take my oldest daughter to her Girl Scout meeting and activity. This is something I initially didn't want to do, but I knew my daughter and wife would appreciate me taking her and being there. Although I was ready handle the day, it didn't stop the negative thoughts from entering my head about being in an awkward situation with a bunch of mom I didn't know. So what gets us into those negative and pessimistic moods? How do those negative thoughts and actions we have effect us as well as the people around us and what can we do to be better? No parenting struggles and lessons today, for this show I wanted to tell you about my adventures from the road on our grand two week long vacation where we ventured across the country in our new RV. I discuss why we decided to take an RV on this trip instead of the traditional car and hotel route as well as mention a few pros and cons in doing so. Mistakes were made, lessons we learned, but the family bonding was priceless. It was also great to see other family, get some fishing in, and work on my tan! |EP120| On this Dad Classic episode of Stay At Home Dads Podcast, I am still out on vacation so I went back to October of last year where I talk about getting out of that comfort zone and living life to our fullest potential. A brand new episode will be up next week, thanks for your patience! Today I give a little dance recap, something my wife and I have been doing for the past 6 months or so. We went to a little party, brought our girls, had fun, as well as danced in front of many people, and that's what today's episode is all about. Getting out of our comfort zones, getting away from that mundane day in day out and even that lazy or unmotivated mentality that we can all get stuck in. Whats holding us back? What's preventing us from trying those new things and stepping out of this bubble of safety? Let's go through a few benefits to stepping out of that comfort zone and doing things that excite life and help us grow! |EP119| Today on this Dad Classic episode of Stay At Home Dads Podcast I dug deep and found episode 22, a fun one where I talked about things husbands wished their wives knew. Since I am currently on the road with little to no internet service there will be no current intro for today's episode so you may have to listen to that cringeworthy On This Day spot I used to do. Anyways, enjoy this dad classic and I will talk you next week! Since last week I found a nice list of what wives wish their husbands knew I figured it was fitting that I went over the sister article to it; 10 Things Husbands Wish Their Wives Knew. I found some interesting tips in it and it was actually fun to see what some other men and husbands are saying out there. Hope you enjoy, the link is below if you want to check out the article. Today on this Dad Classic Edition of Stay At Home Dads Podcast I bring up the dreaded traveling with kids topic with an episode from a couple years ago. Since I am currently on an epic RV vacation with my kids for two weeks and many other families are traveling for summer I thought this would be a great time to go over a few tips and ideas to help you not go insane! Yes the audio it terrible, yes I'm not that great on the mic in this old episode, but I hope you still enjoy it. |EP116| Today on Stay At Home Dads Podcast I talk about an interesting moment that highlights being an adult I think, finally getting called a certain name. I then get into the marriage dynamic and reference an article on 25 things we need to do to be a better spouse. I am no professional in this realm but I do my best to explain and talk about some obvious and not so obvious things we could be better at. Even if we don't have marital problems, it never hurts to educate ourselves and learn more about it. |EP115| Today on Stay At Home Dads podcast I open the show with my new RV woes and the problems we had on the very first trip we took it on. It's such a frustrating experience when you spend all this money and think you're covered but we potentially may not be. I then talk about a heroic story of a kid in Michigan jumping into action to save people which ties into the topic of today of kids being preoccupied by cell phones and devices not to notice life going on around them. I talk about a few negative effects and mention a study on this topic as well as what we can do to make sure our kids don't over use screens. Lastly I play a short clip about adults being engrossed in their phones so much that they're missing out on things around them as well as not allowing their brain to clear out thoughts and ideas because we are bombarding it with content constantly.
