What Would You Do With a Refund You Never Planned to Return? From Costco Schemes to Game-Changing Tech and a Four-Year-Old Golf MiracleHow long would it take you to notice someone sneaking a refund into their own pocket? On this hilarious and fast-moving episode of The JB and Sandy Show, JB, Sandy, and Tricia cover everything from clever refund loopholes and college parking disasters to breakthrough technology that's changing lives and a four-year-old golfer who may have already peaked before kindergarten. The show kicks off with a fascinating conversation about smart glasses and how emerging technology is helping people navigate everyday life in ways that once seemed impossible. Sandy shares a heartfelt story about his mom using advanced eyewear to read menus, identify obstacles, and gain more independence, leading to one memorable realization: "Technology... I think it's here to stay, guys."Entertainment contributor Stephen Presley joins the show to reveal the five country artists you absolutely have to see live, sparking debate over the ultimate concert experiences and which legendary performers deserve a spot on everyone's bucket list. Plus, his pitch for a Jackie Chan action-comedy has the entire crew ready to buy a movie ticket before the script is even written. Then things get wonderfully chaotic when Tricia becomes the center of a financial controversy involving Costco returns. What starts as a simple refund quickly turns into a courtroom-worthy debate over ownership of returned money, with Tricia openly admitting she has no intention of handing it back. One of the funniest moments arrives when Sandy accuses her of creating a secret spending fund, while Tricia happily embraces the strategy. The gang also dives into:Two Austin-area schools earning national recognition among America's best high schoolsThe bizarre tale of "Bongholio," a costumed activist making headlines at public meetingsA four-year-old who scored a hole-in-one on his very first golf swingCollege traffic returning in full force as students flood back to campusHilarious memories of parking tickets, booted cars, and creative attempts to outsmart parking enforcementJB's newest obsession: air conditioning in the garage, which he calls one of the best upgrades he's ever madeYou'll laugh at stories of broke college students, nod along to memories of campus life, and maybe even start pricing out your own garage makeover by the end of the episode. “Baby woman” is the girlboss's Wario. “Baby woman” is a term coined by Shannon Keating in a piece for The Cut to describe a particular kind of affect some women have: it's not just girlishness, but also some abdication of adult responsibility. And Shannon's seen some baby women behavior out in the culture, from Lena Dunham to Amanda Batula. But what drives some women to be baby? And what do they get out of it? To find out, Brittany is joined by Shannon Keating, freelance writer, and Ashley Reese, writer, culture critic, and author of the Bad Brain Substack. For more episodes on the women's relationships to themselves and culture, check out:The price women pay for being onlineNumb girls & the humiliation of caring too much"Girl Math" does not add up to financial freedomSupport Public Media. The Grammys' new controversial category, Girl Math hits the retail sector, and the problem with aestheticised loneliness influencers.Reminder, we're on YouTube and SUBSTACK.Hi friends! In this episode, we kick off with some celebrity pop culture bits, including a revelation from TikTok user Jessmess69 regarding Sarah Pidgeon and one former Culture Club Chats guest! The Grammy Awards is adding five new categories: R&B collaboration or duo/group performance, best traditional pop vocal performance and best traditional folk album. But, the categories causing concern include best Asian pop music performance and best Latin song. Is this progress or a form of musical segregation?Australian fashion brand, Lioness, has come under fire this week after its graphic tees were accused of sexist language. A t-shirt, which is being sold in Myer as well as in their online store for $29 features a slogan on the front that reads: “I'm too pretty to do math”. We break down our thoughts, including the new wave of bimbo-fication that's now being sold to women. We reference this opinion piece for the Sydney Morning Herald titled What a Degrading T-shirt: Girls Told They're ‘Too Pretty To Do Math' by educator Allan Dougan.Next, have you noticed a certain type of social media content that's focused on loneliness? Writer Rachel Pick wrote a piece for The Cut titled, “The Loneliness Influencers Inside The Luxurious Tedium Of “I Have No Friends” TikTok”. We discuss the influence of this type of content and if it's perpetuating or helping the loneliness crisis. We also read from Milk Fed by Caitlyn Richardson and her piece called Heidegger And The Illusion Of Aestheticized Loneliness. In recommendations, Maggie watched the Australian horror movie, Leviticus, while Jas read and loved Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage by Belle Burden.Thank you for being here! Recording from a doctor's office before a PRP facial, Coco Dee expands on “girl math” and how jokingly justifying spending (like buying more because it's on sale) can keep women stuck, especially those who already struggle with money. Coco reframes money as a simple game with clear parameters, pointing to compound interest as proof of how powerful small, consistent choices can be over 10–20 years and how “girl math” can compound against you, too. Her core reminder is that today's decisions are seeds: you often feel the results two to three years later, just like training or leaving an unhealthy relationship has a messy middle before the payoff. She encourages being expansive, but not reckless, and to make choices that build wealth, legacy, or a financial buffer.00:00 Doctor Office Intro00:26 What Girl Math Means02:01 Money Game and Compounding03:41 Choices Plant Seeds05:01 Messy Middle and Rewards06:03 Garden Analogy for Money06:26 PRP and Skin Investment07:08 No Scrooge Final Reminder07:33 Wrap Up and Goodbye If you're after some more goodiesI have a FREE 5-Day Mindset Reset for you called  Wealthy Women WinYou can also follow me on Instagram

Do you and your loved ones see eye-to-eye... about AI?There's been a lot of discourse about age gaps and wage gaps – but there's a new kind of gap rocking relationships: AI gaps. For example, when a couple isn't on the same page about when and how to use it, or even how AI becomes an unwelcome third wheel in a relationship. And this is big for some couples – but this also can be an issue in some friendships and family dynamics, too. So what does AI usage say about what people value? And are conflicts around AI becoming proxies for deeper issues in relationships?Brittany chats with Jenny Singer, a freelance culture writer who wrote about this for The Washington Post, and Heather Kelly, a freelance reporter who focuses on how technology affects daily life.(00:00) Can using AI be an ick?(03:35) When AI becomes an unwelcome third in your relationship(07:41) Why Americans are pessimistic about AI - but might use it anyway(13:08) What AI usage might say about our values(18:06) Strategies for bridging the AI divide in relationshipsFor more episodes about modern dating, check out:"Girl Math" does not add up to financial freedomThe unbearable fear of being cheated onThe joy of breaking up with dating appsSupport Public Media. Sorry but...the "Girl Math" is not adding up.And by "Girl Math" we mean the class fantasies of young women; the dream of achieving financial freedom by being frivolous with finances (because 'I'm just a girl!')... and really entirely on their husband or partner (with no backup plan!).You see these fantasies peddled in romance novels, divorce memoirs, and, of course, tradwife content. According to Chelsea Fagan, author and CEO of The Financial Diet, these are all part of our culture's obsession with class fantasies. While we may believe much of our social and romantic desires are solely rooted in love, Chelsea wants to encourage women especially to interrogate their financial status and future. Brittany is joined by Chelsea to answer the question: is it really love if you don't have the financial ability to come and go as you please? Want more on financial fantasies or relationships? Is girl math keeping us broke? Money stress is one of the biggest sources of anxiety and almost no one talks about it honestly. In this episode of Girls Gone Wellness, we're joined by April Stroink, a Certified CFO and advisor who works with health and wellness professionals to help them build financial calm, not just chase more money. This is a grounded, non-judgmental conversation about why so many women feel anxious, avoidant, or behind when it comes to money, and how much of that comes down to what we were never taught. We talk about money as both a practical and emotional topic, from generational money stories and “girl math,” to social pressure, debt, and the constant feeling of trying to keep up in a system that feels stacked against us.April breaks down why traditional budgets often fail, how simple systems can reduce financial stress, and what she calls a margin of safety, the difference between a financial crisis and a manageable problem. In this episode, we cover:Why money feels so emotional (and why that's not a flaw)How avoidance keeps people stuck, and how to break the cycleWhat “financial calm” actually looks like in real lifeWhy budgets don't work for most peopleHow to create a margin of safety, even with debtSimple, realistic money systems that reduce anxietyHow to start engaging with your finances without shame or overwhelmIf you've ever felt embarrassed about money, scared to look at your bank account, or unsure how you're supposed to build a future while juggling rising costs and debt, this episode is for you.

Americans have a glum view of the economy, but that is not expected to affect their consumer spending as holiday shopping kicks off.     According to a recent Fox News survey, 76% of Americans have a negative view of the economy. At the end of President Joe Biden's term, this number was 70%. Yet while Americans appear to be losing faith in the vitality of the U.S. economy, they don't plan on slowing their own holiday shopping habits.     The International Council of Shopping Centers reports that between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday, 235 million American adults are expected to spend $127 billion, for an average of $542 a person—a $13 increase from the average spent over the long holiday weekend last year.     Millennials are projected to be the biggest spenders, with the International Council of Shopping Center estimating the generation born between 1981 and 1996 will drop an average of $764 a person during the five-day shopping period.     So what's the disconnect? God math is a message that compares the miraculous with girl math. It kinda makes sense but kinda doesn't. God works in supernatural ways we sometimes can't understand, but you don't have to understand to believe.

Today we're talking about “girl math”, but not in the way TikTok wants you to. My guest is Meg Wheeler, CPA, financial educator, founder of the Equitable Money Project, and all-around champion for financial equity. We unpack the viral "girl math" trend and why it may seem harmless but actually reinforces some pretty dangerous stereotypes about women and money. Meg and I both agree: women are not bad at math—and this kind of messaging does more harm than good. But we don't stop there. We also dig into what it really takes to build wealth when you don't come from generational wealth, how financial knowledge—not money—is often the most valuable asset, and why staying politically engaged is a financial strategy. Meg also talks about her popular Substack Call Your Representatives, and we close out with a little joy: what she's happily spending her money on this summer.
