Something's not quite right in the quiet mountain town of Targrady, West Virginia…Months after a local teen was lynched in the dead of a hot summer night, two men stand charged with murder in what the majority opinion considers to be an open-and-shut case. But Adelaide Stephenson, a young crime reporter from Charleston, is finding out the smallest cracks in the official narrative run far, far deeper than she could have ever expected.Join Adelaide in West By God as she navigates small-town secrets, the dubious ethics of her own profession, and the dark whispers of an ancient creature — known to some as the Witchum Woman — who prowls the shadowed hollers that lie between night and nightmare.Sent on overnight assignment to cover the start of the trial, Adelaide quickly realizes the story she's been told — and been telling — doesn't make sense. Cryptic assertions of a concrete alibi are emailed to her by the family of the accused, nobody in town seems comfortable discussing the basic facts of the case, and the murder she's been writing about wasn't the only tragic death this summer. Adelaide extends her stay against the wishes of her editor, and her investigations take a complicated and dangerous turn as she discovers the true depths of the mysteries surrounding Targrady. The only real evidence from the night of the murder may lie in the hands of a notorious local crime family led by an enigmatic woman known as the Fetid Queen, local authorities seem to grow more hostile by the hour, and even Adelaide's own career might not survive this assignment.Featuring an eclectic cast of characters ranging from violent and horrifying to outlandish and fabulous, West By God is a must-read novel for anybody who enjoys Twin Peaks, Stephen King, and all the creepy places you find just off the path in the woods. It is the debut novel of Tyler Bell: A USMC infantry combat veteran, former crime and courts reporter for the Charleston Daily Mail, and creator of the award-winning Westside Fairytales Horror and Dark Fiction Podcast.Due for release by Henlo Press in October of 2023.Make this release a success by supporting our Kickstarter! This month's HLC is a continuation of our interview series, this time with Nic Boone, a horror creator and artist who's worked on numerous video games, including League of Legends. They're very well read on the social and economic issues facing artists these days, and so I invited them on to talk horror, their work, and the threats facing working artists in the modern market. We talk at length about AI, workers rights, and the grim future of art if the people who make it don't learn to band together and stick up for themselves. If you're the politically weary sort, or get upset when you hear non-status-quo opinions about politics, economics, etc., this episode may not be for you. We get out in the weeds on some issues, but I have say quite expressly that these are issues I'm very passionate about and that have deep and profound effects on folks like me being able to make art and hold onto the fruits of my labor. So, if you could give it a listen with an open mind, even if you disagree, I'd appreciate that!Side note: Nic goes by they/them pronouns and I accidentally misgender them a few times in this episode. On this HLC I do a massive review of "The Black Phone," starring Ethan Hawke. It's based on a short story by Joe Hill, and, well, I guess you can say that's fairly obvious. A team of misfits embarks safely, heading east. With nothing but time on their hands, our disparate cast makes their introductions, both to us, and to each other. Some of these first meetings are friendly, others awkward, and at least one close to deadly. The shadow of the mysterious Rider looms tall over our travelers, and it's no great reach to believe the Pinkertons have yet to abandon their chase.Greater dangers still lay ahead, and before the crew of this train arrive at their first stop, one will be left terribly maimed. Previously, on Sin Carriers, we were introduced to a handful of our dramatis personae. The rogue killer, Su: A wild woman with a bloody past and a penchant for running astray of the law. Vasily, a morose Russian traveler whose wife unfortunately passed before their ship arrived on the American West Coast. Moira, a precocious young woman and sole child of Tolliver Loeb, whose company has been tasked with transporting an odd load of old ship wood east. This episode, we're introduced to the rest of our party as they embark on a train ride toward bloodshed, misery, and horror! Knife-slingers, thieves on the lam, and, most frightening of all, a Catholic priest! Will these dangerous strangers make it to their destination without bloodshed? Just what sort of baggage are they bringing with them? And what mysteries lay in the wood? You may find the answer to these questions and more on this, the second episode of Sin Carriers. A super duuuuuper long episode of the Horror and Lit Club in which I ramble at length about home repairs, Castlevania, my take on the new pride flag, and in which I deliver a roughly two-hour-long script revision of the new Conjuring movie from James Wan.I say that the Conjuring is a Blumhouse feature a bunch of times during this, which is incorrect, but it's so like a Blumhouse movie I decided to forgive myself. Just letting you know ;)The script doctor is the last like two hours or so of the episode, skip ahead if you just want to hear that and skip everything else, lolSupport us on Patreon: https://bit.ly/34jUJsGYou can also support us by purchasing some merch: https://bit.ly/33bjPtuFollow us on Twitter: https://bit.ly/2WxCs8yFollow us on Facebook: https://bit.ly/36svFkYFollow us on Instagram: https://bit.ly/2JIhZIVJoin the Westside Fairytales Horror and Lit Club: https://bit.ly/2WAjT3NArtwork by Yui Breedlove https://bit.ly/324i7ZO
Ash has proven to herself beyond a shadow of a doubt that anywhere she exists, if Mike's there, she can — and will — kill him. He's no longer a stain in her heart, but there are other problems. She's trapped in Ashley Colon's version of reality with no way out, and even if she had one, it wouldn't fix what was wrong with Gun Cotton. With little else in the way of options, she reaches out to the one person she knows might be able to help. It's clear that the events Ash's presence in Gun Cotton has set into motion haven't been slowed in the least by her return to her own time. After a lifetime of letting herself be slowed, sidelined, and stalled, she's ready to break through into the shadowed history of her house's basement. What she finds on the other side of the rough will be the beginning of the end of the life she's known for thirty years. But knowing she has to face it, and wanting to, will make all the difference.Support us on Patreon: https://bit.ly/34jUJsGYou can also support us by purchasing some merch: https://bit.ly/33bjPtuFollow us on Twitter: https://bit.ly/2WxCs8yFollow us on Facebook: https://bit.ly/36svFkYFollow us on Instagram: https://bit.ly/2JIhZIVJoin the Westside Fairytales Horror and Lit Club: https://bit.ly/2WAjT3NArtwork by Yui Breedlove https://bit.ly/324i7ZO

Ash’s desperate gambit in the Doctor’s hidden clinic has paid off, returning her home as though from a dream. Faced with the revelations of the clinic, many questions have been answered, but many still more remain.Ash finds that Gun Cotton has taken a turn for the worse while she’s been gone. If she was really gone at all.In any case, it’s readily apparent that her work isn’t yet done, and this moment of happiness might be little more than a brief reprieve.Support us on Patreon: https://bit.ly/34jUJsGYou can also support us by purchasing some merch: https://bit.ly/33bjPtuFollow us on Twitter: https://bit.ly/2WxCs8yFollow us on Facebook: https://bit.ly/36svFkYFollow us on Instagram: https://bit.ly/2JIhZIVJoin the Westside Fairytales Horror and Lit Club: https://bit.ly/2WAjT3NArtwork by Yui Breedlove https://bit.ly/324i7ZO
The Doctor’s threats, and his condition, make it all too clear that Ash’s time in the Starling household is rapidly coming to a close. Doped on morphine and left to fend for herself, she’s swept up into the arms of a girl with the same name as long ago student, Coraline. And bearing the same ethereal glow as her golden ghost. With the clock set against her, Ash will be forced to delve into the house’s most awful secrets, or risk becoming one of them.Support us at patreon.com/westsidefairytales or by purchasing some merch!Follow us on social media - Join the Westside Fairytales Horror and Lit ClubSend us an email at westsidefairytales@gmail.comArtwork by Yui Breedlove

Ash realizes she’s stuck in this iteration of the house once she finds the house doesn’t even have the garret she’s been looking for. Gone too is the typewriter, though she can still hear it faintly throughout the house. She adapts to her new job as a housemaid while trying to figure out a way home, the meaning behind that other her's urging to “find the Medusa. Find the Artist.” It’s painfully clear, however, that the doctor’s own tenuous grip on sanity is rapidly slipping, and she might run out of time before she can find the answers she needs.Support us on Patreon or by purchasing some merch!Follow us on social media: Twitter | Facebook | InstagramJoin the Westside Fairytales Horror and Lit ClubSend us an emailArtwork by Yui Breedlove
